No matter what else happens this weekend, we always have this to comfort us in our times of despair:
Lineup (and news that Jackson is now damaged):
Crisp cf, Barton 1b. Kouzmanoff 3b, Suzuki c, Sweeney rf, Cust DH, Ellis 2b, Pennington ss, Davis lf
Sheets vs some Pittsburgh guy
I prefer to think of him as “slightly irregular.”
Man, Jack 2008 woulda crushed that one.
Cust’s one dimension has collapsed into a singularity.
nice
In Kendall’s space?
Bobbeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
I trust the A’s pitchers have the scouting report.
What a battle of suck. They should have invited the Orioles in this weekend for a three-team round robin.
Bring in the Astros and make it a play-off of suck.
Edwin Jackson throws a 150-pitch no-hitter.
Pffffff. With 8 walks. After *3 perfect games in one month, no-hitters are boring.
It’s too bad we don’t have pitch counts for the no-hitters Nolan Ryan threw early in his career. #2 was a 4 BB, 17 K performance vs. the Tigers. According to BR, #6 at Oakland was 130 pitches, with 2 BB and 14 K.
Edit: I forgot #3, 9-28-74, Minnesota at California. 8 BB, 15 K.
Estimated piches = 3.3PA + 1.5K + 2.2BB. In years past I think the 3.3 was a little lower. So a 4BB/17K no hitter ~137 pitches. 2BB/14K = 121 pitches. 8 BB/15K = 155.
Tonight’s no-hitter was 8BB/6K, which would be estimated at 142 pitches (actual 149).
Nobody pops-out on a first pitch like Boobee.
Only technically true because Byrnes is out of baseball.
I wonder what FK thinks of Soaker’s idea: Give Ray Fosse his green-and-gold watch and put Eric Byrnes in the television analyst’s chair.
I think he should understudy for
KrukowByg Twyt.I…well, I’ve never heard Byrnes on the radio. Is he any good?
I’ve only seen him on TV (Fox during postseason, I think?). My thought is that Byrnes is more connected to today’s game than a geezer like Fosse, would come across as enthusiastic and energetic, has legitimate Bay Area connections in addition to his history with the A’s, and would appeal to a younger demo. Fosse could still do a pregame show, “How Great Is It? With Ray Fosse”.
The only times I’ve seen/heard him on tv/radio he’s been a buffoon.
The most common indictment of the Kuiper-Fosse team is that they’re “boring”. I’m saying, maybe putting a loudmouth like Byrnes on the A’s telecasts would liven things up. He’d have to tone it down somewhat, just due to having to do +/- 150 broadcasts a year. If he could find the right balance, it would not really matter whether he were paired with Kuiper or Cotroneo or Greg Papa or whoever, the A’s telecasts would no longer be subject to the “boring” tag.
Boobee & Byrnes sounds like a bespoke gentleman’s tailor’s shop.

Anybody here seen my old friend Bobby
Can you tell me where he’s gone?
I never understand why managers play the infield in
Whoa, Donnelly.
What a display of putrid baseball. And how appropriate that Donnelly is on the mound for this stinkfest.
The Pirates announcers (whom I chose tonight when I realized that the A’s were giving us Cotroneo and Bitker) mentioned that this is the one-month anniversary of the Pirates’ last road win. This is their 15th straight road loss, assuming a non-disaster. And you thought the A’s have been going bad…
Such a pleasure to see Crosby chase the low-and-away slider from Wuertz for strike three for the final out. VICTORY!!
’70s night – gotta give Kuiper credit for really bringing the look!
Branyan->Mariners
Heh.
Does this mean we can get H2N3 back?
We could have done that when he was on waivers.
