Geez, what–I can’t even take a vacation day around here?
- Ostler’s a lazy non-FKer, so we get Slumbeat updates:
A. Arnold Leon had TJ surgery yesterday
B. Michael Taylor might be back in Sacto lineuptomorrowSaturday
C. Ynoa threw 20 pitches in extended ST
D. Weeks weeks away
E. Doolittle doing little
F. Slusser unnecessarily sucking up to Ostler - … who still sucks.
- … and is also too fucking lazy to even get on Twitter, let alone update the Slumbeat (Rosales starting at SS tonight)
- Speaking of lazy, Yesterday was the 17th anniversary of Jose Canseco taking a Carlos Martinez fly ball off the noggin for a home run. It was also the first anniversary of his MMA debut.
- Speaking of MMA …
- Speaking of guys with no heart and no eyes–alas, he does have a tongue, and a mouthpiece
- I want one of these for Cust
- I continue to remain utterly befuddled by Kevin Drum’s bizarre obsession with his perceived evils of supermarket loyalty cards, and his general tendency to get far more worked up about those than about the national security-state-apparatus buildup
Is Ted Lilly doctoring the ball?
What’s up with the Joe west hate? Based on the comment about the length of RS-NYY games?
He is right they are unnecessarily long, not just because the players work the count. I have no evidence for this, but it seems when I watch the games, the players contemplate their next move after each pitch, like they are changing the plan based on the previous outcome. You know, kinda treating the game like its the playoffs.
No, the Joe West hate has little to do with that. He has a reputation for baiting players and managers into confrontations and then throwing them out, and routinely ranks among the worst umpires in polls of the players (here are results from 2003 and 2006 – basically the same guys).
(Incidentally, my boss is named Joe West, but is nothing like the umpire.)
I’m pretty sure that describes 75% of umpires.
Not as much.
Also, Joe West has his own publicist.
Lazy FKer
that makes more sense
Here we are, blaming British Petroleum and Obama for the oil leak, when it was actually a Scotsman’s fault.
Maybe Matthew Fox can go down and plug the hole.
Does anyone else consistently get slow/bad connections to the Calcaterra nbcsports links that mb posts?
Might be your work filter. My work filter rules out almost all daily newspaper articles and front pages because of load times on yieldmanager.
We have no work filter. Seems to be an intermittent routing issue between our ATT DSL and the NBC site.
Re 1F: Slusser seems to have a strong default inclination to say good things about her colleagues. Reading between the lines of several of her AN posts, she is of the opinion that she should accentuate (or conjure up) the positive virtues of her Chron coworkers whenever possible, as her contribution to the fight to save her beleagured industry.
I do not recall ever having seen her saying anything at all about Gwen Knapp, who I must imagine SuSlu fervently wishes would move on to her appropriate role as a schoolmarm or chief enforcer for a roving band of orthodox thugs. Gwen Knapp in a burka on the back of a Toyota technical…I can totally see that.
It’s not just her Chron colleagues – she defended Urban’s Bradley hit-piece, even though he had not extended her the same courtesy when she wrote about Swisher’s drinking.
Hey, I’m beating a strategic retreat against Sol this week. At least I’m sure to win Saturday, due to my exquisite bomb shelter.
So it turns out I can’t go to the game June 26, previously ID’d as a possible tailgate date, because my wife would not assent to my plan to make our nine year old hitchhike back from her first sleepaway camp in Humboldt County (Camp Winnarainbow, beloved by hippies everywhere). I’m similarly family-obligated both July weekends when the A’s are home.
How’s Saturday August 7 look for y’all? It has the added draw of being a fireworks game, which I’m told are actually quite nice to watch from the North parking lot. So postgame we could unpack the gear and have a tailgate after-party to consume the stuff we didn’t consume at the pre-game tailgate fest.
Who’s got nine free hours from 2p to 11p on August 7?
Not I – family vacation. Does it have to be a weekend?
If it would help, here’s a doodle poll for all home games in June, July & August.
I can sometimes make it to the park by 5:30 or so for a weeknight game. Probably can’t a mass turnout then, though. I’d like to throw a bring-friends and family bash some weekend day this summer.
Anyone wanna go Tuesday June 22? Free parking = tailgate win. Better still, I have a coupon I got from Poppy which’ll let me buy up to 8 Plaza Level tix for $2 each. $2 ticket and free parking and simple food and drink…tough to beat.
In Chicago, reviewing the Dark Energy Survey …
“A rollicking good romp of a beach read! Look out, JK Rowling!” — gso, NYRB
I once had to zip up Wavy Gravy’s old-time bathing costume at the Laguna Seca Music Festival. Yes, it was about as gross as it sounds. Tell your 9 year old if that is one of the camp chores, she’s much better off cleaning the craft cabin or blowing up beach balls.
Wow, it’s like you got to touch a piece of history. A really gross piece.
