    Rosales has a giant nose.

    I fear that run will just encourage the Barton bunting idiocy.

      It looked like Geren was talking to him, perhaps thinking aloud about the wisdom of bunting. I’m hoping Sweeney is such an intelligent team player that he struck out to try to teach Barton a lesson.

        If you squint, he kinda looks like Anderson…

  6. mikeA Apr 30,2010 4:44 pm

    We need to manufacture 3 runs.

  7. salb918 Apr 30,2010 4:50 pm

    If Sweeney ad bunted Barton over, we’d have a run.

    I think Ziggy may have been on to something with that whole “A’s fans are boycotting us…” conspiracy theory. It would certainly increase my overall happiness right now to just pretend this team doesn’t exist.

  13. monkeyball Apr 30,2010 5:35 pm

    Well, this will likely be unilluminating:

    I’ll be writing about the number of injuries and the A’s training and conditioning staffs in tomorrow’s paper.

    Shouldn’t she have a Word template for that story by now?

      she was running her ass off in Tampa, and it doesn’t appear to have slowed at all in Toronto so far.

          she was. we’ve made a make-up date.

    • mk May 1,2010 8:34 am || Up

      It was (unilluminating). Basically: we did a lot of studies and we stretch like nobody’s business, but still it’s happening.

      Suzuki and Anderson (and I guess Barton) are unexpected/depressing. But Buck, Ellis, and especially Duchscherer? Why in the world would anyone be shocked! dismayed! in the dumps! we’re cursed! if only we could stay healthy! on account of those three?

      The team was going to be decent as long as its extremely fragile starting pitching stayed healthy and effective. That happy state of affairs held for a couple of weeks, and now it’s over. I feel like screaming “DUH!” would be appropriate right now.

      On the bright side, MGL projects our fill-in catcher as better than Derek Jeter this year.

        Acttually, Bill pissed me off in New Rules by basically adopting the notion that muslim extremism > other religions’. Seemed totally out of character, almost like he let Ross write it for him.

              I have no real opinion of the matter, but I also got to believe that Maher hates any and all religions equally, extremism included. He don’t like religion, and I STRONGLY doubt he would create a hierarchy of what’s worse. He seems to completely despise Catholicism and blames it for a lot of shitty things. I don’t think he’s got a special place in his heart for hating Islam.

              • monkeyball Apr 30,2010 10:12 pm || Up

                Sounds to me like you’re describing (Catholicism aside) what you’d like him to believe.

                • Leopold Bloom Apr 30,2010 10:33 pm || Up

                  He made a movie about the ridiculous nature of all religion. His only continued area of confluence with Christopher Hitchens is their vehement insistence upon atheism. He seems to make fun of all religions to me, and I watch him semi-regularly. Do you know something I don’t?

                • Leopold Bloom May 1,2010 12:21 am || Up

                  And I don’t mean that in a contentious way, mb, because you often do know something I don’t.

                  Bubbie, I probably know a lot you don’t.

                • andeux May 1,2010 9:19 am || Up

                  I was thinking about Hitchens even before I scrolled down to your comment, since he seems to share the
                  1) all extreme religions are equally bad
                  2) extreme Islam is more equally bad than others
                  beliefs.

                  But I used to like Hitchens, while Maher always seemed kind of dumb.

              Define your time period.

              Last decade? Yes. Beyond that, there’s a lot of religions vying for the title.

            Yeah, worserer than all the other bad religious crap. I might have to go back an re-watch as I was distracted at the time, but it was essentially that their crazies are crazier than all the other crazies. Which, given his history (as LB alluded to above) seems surprising.

    Through April, Pennington is has the 5th highest wOBA in baseball, accompanied by a ridiculous ISO of .211. I dig it.

    I find it hard to believe Mazzaro could be any worse than Cahill, but who knows.
