So underway, the A’s have already loaded the bases with one out against a AA pitcher and failed to score.
Diaz v irwin
Suarez v Jeffries
Montas v Barria

unbelievable.
is fletcher ever going to lose steam?
Pinder doing Pinder things.
Fletcher doing Fletcher things.
Khris is a wild card. there is no reason to have him low in the order of the idea is to get him ABs against the starter
pop out double play? or double play 1-2-3?
there goes the no hitter
there is no way to listen to this game. i don’t like the angels crew and the you tube team doesn’t think 19 players in the lineup are worth knowing.
Ken is really spotty today. not as focused.
Ohtani is one of the top 3-5 pitchers in the game. Sure, guys.
And it looks like youtube couldn’t even manage to sell all of the ad time. Though we did get to see one for Joe Rogan’s podcast.
Downright unwatchable too.
8 baserunners 1 hit seems bad
2 hits.
If I cared about next year’s team, I hope we trade/nontender Pinder and use that money to re-sign Harrison.
for the love of pete
I am studying the angels defense, because this is what I expect in 2023 or 2022 when the matts are traded
I finally get to see a game against slegbA and the world tries to shake me out of the house.
4.4 down the road in Carson from what I’ve seen.
I swear to god if he gets pitched to
.275 but .364 against us. Ugh…
my god
My daughter is taking me to the game Sunday!
I’m wondering if I should talk her into going to Knotts instead…
I’m completely tired of ballplayers looking like Robin Williams in Jumanji.
Scioscia finally looked at the standings for the last month and will let Ohtani pitched against us Sunday.
Productive out of Renown!
Gotta admit the a’s are getting good at the walk passed ball inning
safe, but you know, fletcher
good for franklin baretto for getting a full year of service time
Irvin for the 7th. Just say no to the bullpen.
Any way you look at this you lose.
A clean inning for DieBBman? Fetch me my fainting couch.
Stupid youtube-only seemed like a good night to eschew the ballgame altogether but still I am drawn like moth to flame.
Once over the course of a couple hours in a tent with a candle lantern I watched a cranefly dunk its head into molten wax, recoil in agony, collapse seemingly dead, only to revive and repeated its suicidal plunge maybe a half dozen times before finally dying. I’m sure he was an A’s fan.
The 5th time I bet you heard him say “if the pen can just get it back together for 2 weeks…”.
Does Scoscia get to use his whole 40 man roster tonight?
yes
If I just read that graphic right there has been a bullpen WORSE than this in the last month?
not only does this open the door to a run, but it means fletcher for sure
I’m wrong. thankfully, but was almost right accidentally
Thank god for that TOOTBLAN, Lou was about to blow it for sure.
Yeah as soon as that runner got on bad Lou showed up ready to roll.
Oh good a one run lead in the ninth…
Romo would not be my choice.
I really don’t know why I care what happens today
Always a reasonable question.
Picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.
Well at least this is different.
Whaddaya know, held the lead, yay.
We’re sticking with Kaprielian, no wait we’ll give Jeffries a start, no wait nevermind it’s Kaprielian again.
I just wonder if that means there is something wrong with one of our better pitchers.
The only way the A’s make the wildcard is if they are the road team against the blue jays and frankie can’t get into the country
All the rhetoric about migrants flooding the border and it turns out it’s us.
are we the baddies dot gif
40 Semiens for Marcus. Good for him.
Our rookie league team finished their season 16-43.
They’re going to get a great draft pick!
I thought John Smoltz got banished for being a selfish unvaxxed fuckwit, but here I find him on the Mets-Phillies call, whining about what’s wrong with today’s brand of baseball, his regular fuckwit routine, as though nothing has changed.
Olson not going gently into that good night.
35 is fewer than 40
Suarez had two outs and 0-2 count to Olson, then he remembered he was the Angels starting pitcher.
Get more runs plz
Kaper picked a good night for his best big league start. Let’s hope it’s enough.
Damn Guerra that was fantastic.
Bob is pissed, and rightly so.
what the what?
Not hard to read Bob’s lips there.
Took awhile for replay to screw us again, but the bill came due.
Guessing it should have been too close to overturn and Melvin told the umps how Oregon is known as “Duck U”?
Good Petit today. Relieved to see it.
shouldn’t they try to pick him off a bunch?
Chafin really getting hit tonight.
They need to get ??? Up?
can I look up now?
Oh man. Apparently I am still invested.
How could it ever have been in doubt? The very idea of doubt is ridiculous.
Just the way we drew it up.
Now time to see if the Aces can keep the petalto the metal against the Ed’s.
I think i am seeing evidence that they can
This has the potential to be quite the Aces sports ball weekend.
The Mountain West went a more than respectable 5-5 vs. the Pac-12 this year. That conference has three almost-always good teams: Boise State, San Diego State and (at least more often than not) Fresno State. The rest of the teams have the occasional star player (Colin Kaepernick, Jordan Love, Josh Allen) but can’t usually sustain any brief success. The 5-5 record is due to (1) SDSU and Fresno State going 3 for 4, with Fresno State also in the game late vs. Oregon and (2) the “Power Five” Pac-12 continuing its sad downward spiral.
I’m glad to see Fresno State ranked in both major polls this week, although the Coaches Poll putting UCLA #24 and Fresno State #25 tells me some of the voters (usually Sports Information Directors in that one, not the coaches themselves) filled out their ballots and went to bed before the game in Pasadena ended.
The real Soaker Day was in our hearts all along.
LV Aviators on local TV right now at Sacto.
Mike Fiers on the mound to start the 7th
He must’ve pitched the 6th also which I missed. In the 7th leadoff guy reached on a Machin error, then a booming double which barely stayed in the yard, then pop out, then sac fly for an unearned run, then pulled for Grant Holmes. Fiers fastball was all over the place, breaking stuff was sharper.
Enjoying the Machado-Tatis memes, like this one.
Just heard the the kuiper call of the last play.
Did he say it was a Smoko?

imagine if this was the goal:
Gonna need nine from you today Frankie, just FYI.
A gift from Shohei to Frankie’s pitch count. Thank you sir.
71 through 6 is acceptable
Good job elvis
87 after 7 and it has been a nice looking set too.
what the actual fuck bob?
“that’s the fuck, ed”
-bob, probably
Bob said later that Frankie was tired notwithstanding the pitch count. “every pitch in a low scoring game is at max intensity” or something like that.
Scioscia wants to get Ohtani another AB. Maybe it will backfire.
“sore Arm” and 108 pitches do not mix
And 99 on like pitch 107 or 108.
If someone can share the super advanced metric that says we should trust 2 innings from this bullpen pls do so.
Speaking of backfiring, it’s DieBBman.
I had to explain to lil Miss Aces and the youngest Ace why dad is growling at the player running in…
Just because something worked doesn’t mean it was the right call
Don’t care that it worked. Taking Montas out was insane.
Ohtani goes 8, and Scioscia still manages to make a mid-inning pitching change.
Angels have to lead the league in latino pitchers with blond highlights.
Speaking of which, Romo. Great.
romo was your plan bob?
Don’t worry, Lou’s up now.
Surely leaving the bases loaded in the eighth and ninth won’t come back to haunt us.
This is so FKed up.
What an absolute joke.
No Glen, not un-believable.
And good call by Braden, pointing out Romo failing to back up the play.
Much harder to turn this off.
100% on Bob, Frankie should never have come out.
With so many lefties in the lineup, why wasn’t deikmann used in th e9th?
Lou looks like he is about as happy he is being brought into this situation as we are.
Sweet, Lou!
Louu
Romo has allowed 11 runs in 6 IP in September.
There’s an ad for thermometers on the radio broadcast with a serious-voiced guy saying “vaccines are not enough” and “non-contact thermometers are inaccurate…and therefore dangerous.”
I do not like it.
Larry Elder was at this game and apparently dropped into the Angels radio booth between innings. Bay Area kid Mark Langston got pretty gushy about it (“What a great job he did!”).
what the fuck?
I guess if anyone knows how to hype up a gigantic loser, it’s an Angels broadcaster.
You have to be kidding. Please tell me this did not really happen.
I might try to go back and get the clip tonight when it goes up on the MLB.com archive. It was around the 3rd or 4th inning.
I haven’t used my Dropbox account in ages. Let’s see if this works. Mark Langston likes Larry Elder (mp3).
gross. Orange county is gross
No argument, but they continue to trend towards blueing themselves.
Seems on-brand.
Better score here, since the bottom of the inning will start with Fletcher driving in a run.
I don’t even know what doubt is. Not familiar with the concept.
Yay.
6-3 against the bad teams. OK, but probably not quite enough.
It looks like 92 wins is still the target for the WC: Boston needs to go 6-5 to get there, Toronto 8-5, NY 9-3, Oakland 10-3.
So not quite the 12 out of 13 Soaker joked(?) about needing against Seattle and Houston (which, given how many of them are head-to-head, would actually give us a good shot of catching Houston for the division), but still likely just out of reach.
A’s go 10-3, unless its a sweep of the mariners, isn’t the division just as likely?
That’s really asking a lot of the Angels over the next four games.
We’re 6 back.
6-1 against Seattle, 4-2 against Houston probably isn’t enough.
Even 5-2, 5-1 might not be.
One can only imagine how spectacular the implosion would be if the A’s actually did somehow make it into the Wild Card game.
“So the A’s turn to Sergio Romo to preserve this 2-run lead. Springer, Semien and Guerrero due up.”
Didn’t quite imagineer the Angels’ elimination but pretty close.
Have to admit, each day had a more and more creative way of almost losing the game
What do we think, Bassitt or Bailey on Thursday?
Hoping it’s Bassitt. Might even be enough to get me off my couch and to the coliseum.
If you bring up Bailey for a spot start on Thursday, you can go Bassitt, Montas, Manaea against Houston, and set up Montas and Manaea to both pitch in the last series at Houston. That also gives Manaea the extra day of rest he seems to thrive on, and avoids sending Blackburn out to face the Astros twice.
Kap currently listed for Thursday (according to Martin Gallegos. The site says TBD.)
Your Oakland WC pitching staff:
Bassitt
Bailey
Fiers
Romo
DieBBman
Guerra
Trivino
After the Hound I guess I want Guerra?
Where is Chafin?
Bob killed his arm before that.
Boating accident.
You’re gonna need a bigger bullpen.
asvd
I was on the road and listened to exactly one half inning today: the bottom of the 9th. Was truly shocked to get home later to find that the A’s won.
Five in a row! We’re gonna make the WC and win it and ugly up the whole playoffs. Suck it, Mandfredjenson!
Just what I always wanted: an NFT of Mt. Davis.
Boom, final piece of the puzzle.
Guess i should book that flight to Oakland for the ALCS…
If Jamie Moyer wants a job for two weeks he might want to give Forst a call.
Does the Mexican season end in time for Bartolo?
Haha, I was listening to “Help on the Way” when I read this news.
Weird.
I had that song in my head this morning (not sure why).
Then I read Mike Tanier’s NFL column which had this:
Now you mention it too.
If you plant ice (fill a bullpen with dreck)
You’re gonna harvest wind (opponents crushing dingers)
reminds me of beane’s 2014 quip to dombrowski “you have 5 minutes to get [good famous available pitcher that was not traded]”
It would help if the Rays had a very strong finish to the season, wouldn’t it.
I don’t care about this game, but man, the pirates got plundered
but it is nice to seen yandy diaz doesn’t specialize in ruining the A’s playoff hopes.
