I last went to Kansas City in 2013, and it’s one I enjoy for the ballpark and the dining. The A’s are there in late June next season; I’ll keep it on the list over the offseason. Kaufmann Stadium, nearly 50 years old, is a bit out in the boondocks to the east of town though, and checking some Twitter stuff this afternoon it sounds like they are starting to consider getting everything up to date in Kansas City.
Sherman on the future of where the #Royals will play: "We're in a good spot here… but we need to start thinking about our plans over the next 5-10 years."
Says the org is conducting internal process on options, and one option is downtown.

There are a few rain showers sliding by to the north of town this afternoon, but aside from that it looks like some pleasant September weather is in store for the A’s and Royals.
Tonight at 5:10: Montas vs. Jackson Kowar
Wednesday at 5:10: Manaea vs. Mike Minor Carlos Hernandez (Minor to IL)
Thursday at 11:10 a.m.: Blackburn vs. Carlos Hernandez Daniel Lynch
Sometimes I think how great it would be to be brian only and just have been cutting marble for the last few years and not heard of “seth Brown.”
He comes to town every couple of months to make money at his old job. So he is not so blissfully unaware.
that’s too bad.
Not that I dislike seth brown to be clear
Sacrifice!
Some guy in the first row behind the A’s dugout is wearing the late 60s-early 70s gold vest jersey with a Kelly Green batting helmet. Nice look.
The ghosts of Billy Martin and Art Fowler need to come back and tell these starters, you’re the Five Aces, we want you going nine every game the rest of the year.
Billy is very, very angry right now.
Missed opportunity to blow out some arms.
I have never been to KC, their barbeque is a powerful lure, but that’s about it.
Yeah, that is the challenge with a KC visit, finding things to do in the hours when you’re not at the K.
there is the negro league museum. And then you can go to the jazz museum
And the Airline History Museum at the old downtown airport. But I’ve done all of those in two trips. Maybe drive out to Lawrence and check out Bed’s college town next time? Other than that I’m not quite sure.
The Truman Presidential Library in Independence is another one, but yes, I’ve been there too.
Kowar knocked out after 1+. He lasted 1 and a third last time he faced the A’s. Safe to say he’s not a fan of Kelly green.
In contrast to Mr. Santana:
1.94 ERA in 209 career innings against the A’s
the Ervin Santana?
is CJ wilson the closer?
I wish I thought this was too big a lead for the bullpen to blow against the Royals but I know much better.
Good news! they bullpen won’t blow a 6 run lead!
Did we score a run off of Santana? The world is changing.
Clearly need to get the lead up to 9.
O/U on Royals’ runs tonight looking like about 11.5 so there’s your target.
Had to hold on for dear life but the Under squeaked out the win there.
I would rather have the Hound throw 30 pitches active instead of a bullpen vs our current core of RPs throwing an inning.
Hey! So Frankie saw everyone talking about how he has really turned it around and decided it was time for a classic Frankie game!!
Roxy was praising him right before the merrifield single.
I had to turn it off.
Maybe he just loves Oakland so much he is trying to reduce the chance he is traded.
this is just…uhg
But at least it’s also insufferably slow.
3:59 for that one, and this one could be close depending on how the bullpen staggers through the final 3 (2-2/3? 2-1/3?) innings.
It’s all just so awful. Giant meteor please free us from the pain.
This made for great pandemic reading.
Looking to next year, did you know that wander franco is the nephew of eric aybar?
at least him hitting 400 against the A’s won’t be as annoying
I only check in on games now cause watching them through is just too mentally draining. Forfeiting the rest of the games would be quicker and less painful. Just take them out back and shoot them already.
no winning orange county would be hilarious
Sluggerrrr is setting off my gaydar big time.
Lego Masters coming down to the wire!
Speaking of BBQ, I ate myself stupid on Sunday at Horn Barbecue in Oakland. Highly recommend that brisket despite the very long wait in line.
Oh man I’ve been wanting to check this place out. I am handicapped by having married a vegetarian. One of you East Bay FKers want to be my meat buddy some day?
Oakland was quite the West Coast barbecue capital for a while. Flint’s obviously, there was a place called McCoy’s on East 14th not far from the Coliseum, and Doug’s in Emeryville. They could put up a fight with Gates and Arthur Bryant’s in KC. Too bad those places had all folded by 2000 or so.
I don’t know what you guys are complaining about, this is the best baseball of the season for the A’s
Ed I almost started talking about my Fantasy Football team and I did talk about Lego Masters…
Future Ed appears to have doctorK’d a thread from 2012.
Alternative Universe Ed
I just got a FB memory from 2012. We beat the Rangers guys! 2 games back!! Things are looking good.
insert Baghdad Bob gif
Soaker day is coming
Soakassandra was right all along.
Tonight’s plate umpire, Tony Randazzo, is the one who objected to Manaea’s glove a couple weeks ago, so we’ll see if there’s a Part II to that. I want to see Melvin and Manaea pull out the paint sample cards.
Also had a really bad* game behind the plate in the SF/LA series.
* The only thing I don’t like about these umpire ratings is they measure how bad a call was by state of the game, not by how much it missed by. A lot of these were borderline. But even taking that into account, it was still a bad game.
Manaea makes the likely wiser decision not to fight that petty battle.
I thought he was safe, but tough to see exactly when his hand hit the bag.
While Gomes is obviously an upgrade over Garcia/Allen as backup C, I haven’t been impressed with him offensively (75 OPS+) or defensively (13% CS, seemingly poor at framing), and really don’t understand why he is playing more than Murphy now.
Yea..a momentary lead.
I know “can’t anticipate the double play” but that run Olson scored really ought to be unearned. When the infielder has a brain cramp as bad as that one the pitcher should not be penalized with an earned run.
Maybe the kangaroo court will charge the run to Nicky Lopez.
Yay Oly, but he’ll have to reach 100 RBI in this one game before the lead feels safe.
100th rbi on the 35th home run. That tells you something
Well it was fun while it lasted. Maybe I’ll just watch 1 inning a day from now on.
It hasn’t been the A’s day for a couple years
It’s more fun watching September baseball when the team is 20 games under .500 but there are some good prospects getting playing time. It lets the fans go into the offseason on an upbeat note. Watching a veteran team suck night after night is just FKing dismal.
It’s at least more enjoyable watching a team that can score more than 0-2 runs a game.
If the pitching is good you can watch the opposing half of the innings. With this team you can watch 4 of our halves, until we decide we have hit enough for the night.
Glen, I very much doubt Melvin gives a fuck whether Manaea gets the win. Bob is tortured by whether letting Manaea continue to pitch is better or worse than letting the bullpen pitch.
We’re going to win this game.
See.
What about this one?
Reply hazy, try again.
Signs point to yes.
Scoreless Trivino inning. Good start.
Oh, I see Bob has decided to play press your luck.
No whammies please.
well a three run game is a game to deploy the best relievers, just wish it wasn’t a game they scored 8.
Of course, yesterday…
There’s your 6-run lead.
dielman chafin it is!
Dallas saying this would be a good time to get that contagious hitting bug. Has he been watching?? Hitting isn’t EXACTLY the issue the last month.
Lou as long man isn’t anxiety inducing at all.
Lou Trivino: 2022 #5 starter
I hope he gets a chance to get fixed by some other organization’s coaching staff. There have been a few too many setbacks in Oakland.
I hope someone else gets a chance to harness the ability of DieBBman
For his family’s safety, he should move to another city immediately.
Like, I don’t know, maybe three batters ago, if not sooner.
Are they sure it was a crazy guy and not a guy with NBCalifornia?
I wish Emerson had been mic’d when he went out after the 4-pitch walk to the left-handed batter. PO’d didn’t look like it would begin to describe it. Naturally it just got worse after that.
I went back again to look whether any real info ever came out about this (no). I did notice there are a lot of guys from Nebraska in her replies telling her to not only buy a gun, but shoot the (alleged) guy with it. So that’s neat.
Hey! Ken just mentioned my close personal friend brent mayne!
Jesus..you can see it coming, right?
You don’t need to be jesus to see it coming
I almost posted a “dumb stupid bob always using his best relivers no matter what” but jesus, this is bad
I mean…I’m pissed he was left in but WTF do you do if your Melvin. There is no one to use.
No, it isn’t that these Royals “just won’t go away” we won’t let them leave. It’s like a crap band coming back for an encode
You wouldn’t let us leave!!
You wouldn’t turn the house lights on!
Why is Blackburn still starting? Flip him and Jeffries.
Does Chapman maybe have 15 pitches in him?
@soaker can’t land on his foot..
It’s too bad Chafin caught whatever this is. Should have been vaccinated before joining our bullpen.
THROW A FKING STRIKE
Never in doubt
If I see any player, coach, manager,or columnist say some BS about how maybe thus is blah blah I may cuss them out. That was the worst victory I’ve seen.
I’d like to see 5 or 6 black eyes and/or fat lips when the team shows up at Kauffman Stadium tomorrow. Although I won’t see it live anyway because there is no way I’m wasting four hours of a nice late summer day sitting through more of this shitshow.
Totally agree. I would also love for 1 Melvin honest press conference. At least I can catch up on work during the workday tomorrow I guess.
best baseball of the season
Bob is a better man than I. He refused the A’s lowball offers so they picked up his option for 2022, he’s stuck with a likely non-contender and making way less than a bunch of teams would pay. I’d be doing something more like this.
It’s hard to find reliable info about what managers make, but what I can find mostly suggests that Bob is closer to the high end.
If our assumption that the A’s are about to blow it all up and go through another rebuild is correct, I do wonder if he will want to go through another iteration of that.
Maybe if they promise not to Billy Butlerize the roster this time he’ll stick for another round.
If Bob wants out of his contract at the end of this year and Fisher can save $1M or whatever by letting him go and replacing him with, let’s say, Mark Kotsay or Ryan Christenson, I can’t see that there wouldn’t be mutual agreement on the matter.
Which will be a mistake but certainly not the 1st or last we will have to save $1.03.
I could be 100% wrong but I feel like Kotsay is going to be a Geren 2.0 wherever and whenever he finally lands.
SLF: We are setting up a show.
ED: when?
SLF October 15, 22 or 29. Do we have any conflicts?
ED: [sigh] no.
Tim Timmons just tossed the grounds crew in Baltimore??
Three batters in, Blackburn has the TTO covered.
It was a microcosm of the year asI turned on the tv no outs basesloaded 3-2 count
Can’t spell Whit Merrifield without WTF?
One play tried to get an out at 2nd when no one was covering, then later didn’t throw to 1st for the 3rd out when he had plenty of time.
Must win game in Sept. The answer, clearly, is Paul Blackburn.
Bassitt
Kaprelian
Blackburn
Jeffries
Fiers
Your 2022 A’s
There’s a good 35 or so wins out of that rotation.
If we’re doing the fire sale, wouldn’t Bassitt be one of the first to go?
Im selfish and I want The Hound. But yeah if we were going to do that he probably goes and MAYBE Frankie stays. Or we have AJ go back to starting for a week until he goes on the IL and we put in Homer Bailey.
I am going to talk myself into contending next year at some point.
I’m sure in mid March I will believe that this is the year Puk wins 20 and Krush has a .247 40 HR season in him.
On the position player side:
Andrus and Piscotty because of contracts.
Laureano and Murphy for legitimate talent.
Pinder and Kemp for needed versatility on a crappy roster.
Brown until somebody better shows up.
They might hold on to Chapman over the winter, hoping for a big first half bringing a haul at the deadline. But Chapman is a desirable player even with a down offensive season in 2021 and I tend to think somebody will make a can’t-resist offer over the winter.
Ok-I really dont believe in jinxes and all of that. It’s fun, I like to joke, but I know it is not real.
but I swear to God every time I decide to turn the game on is when the pitchers start to fall apart. Glad I am going into a meeting so Blackburn can straighten up and fly right.
Survived potential tying runs on in 6th, 7th, and 8th.
But now might put Romo in for the 9th?!
Stop hitting our guys.
Even Elvis.
HBP, WP, WP.
BB, WP.
not sensing this guy has good control
Harrison is kind of a wonderful ballplayer. Would enjoy keeping him around for a bit.
Thanks, sun and shade.
Can I have 100,000,000 dollars?
Looks like he needs liquidity for the big offseason FA spending spree!
Build a stadium with a MUCH smaller footprint!!
