Seems like several years ago the A’s swept these guys in Oakland. They’re better now, from what I hear.

Hey, maybe it would help to have an actual right handed DH instead of Murphy striking out there.
This is good.
Chapman is approaching one year since the hip injury which seems to be when players get their bearings back after that type of injury. OPSing >.900 this month.
to the point in the other thread, KD in the lineup you don’t need a third catcher
Two pathetic lucky hits on great Irvin pitches and trouble is afoot.
Thank you Matt Chapman, you’re the hero we need.
That arm never stops being amazing.
That’s a damn big center garden.
We Canhaz longball again!
Canha!!
Someone tell Melvin we need to see a couple of games before Canha us back at leadoff.
Also someone tell Irvin his gopher is gaining weight and he need to stop feeding it.
It’s ok. Our homers are counting double.
Guerra,phew,good God y’all.
“The Funk-Man”?
Marte needs to clear the bases so he can get his SB.

Just ant to note, that both future boys are vaccinated (and both previously had it in march of 2020), and today, after a grand total of 12 full days of school, both had emails come from their respective schools that there have been positive case(s) and they are not in the close contact group of either
12 days
You only got your first of those emails today? We got our first on August 22 and have had several since then. No close contacts…yet.
We got our 1st yesterday. One of the few times I’m glad the youngest Ace is a hermit who’s few friends all seem smart enough to be vaxxed and masked.
I expected the k12 sooner, but the high school i was a little concerned with
Like GM I’m impressed … 3 days into term for Bishop O’Dowd, with 85% student and 95% staff vaccination.
Chafin why? Puk is right there.
I can only guess that he was already “hot” and you don’t want to [whatever sexual innuendo] him
Baby, it’s cruel not to let me pitch after you got me all excited!
Blue arm. Jordan Weems can tell ya.
This is why I think bringing up a 15th (thanks andeux) pitcher is so pointless. The backend relievers already don’t even get work in situations like these as Bob continues to burn the good ones on 4,5,6 run leads.
Can’t wait to hear tomorrow how we had a couple of guys unavailable so Burch had to go 3 innings.
Careful what you wish for …
7 BoSox on the covid list, and reportedly had one of the lower vaccination rates in the league.
I’m thinking playoffs again. Shit.
That’s a 3 homer game for Chapman in most parks
I hate the angels so much for making my want this guy to lose. he is so much fun
Aside from 3 HR on Irvin’s line this looks like a pretty good evening.
Very much laughed out loud at this architectural rendering.
Black is such a great color for the desert, and a huge expanse of open water are just what is called for in drought-country.
This is what happens when the tastes you form at age 10 remain your tastes for your entire life.

I had really hit a wall today, just utterly despairing about how shit all the news of the world is. KD brings just a small bit of joy that is much needed.
I cannot think of better news after I got out of jail
Can’t wait to see him on the field!
They all must be so excited!
I know I am, this news tilted the scales and got me to buy tickets for Tues 9/7, his first game back at home.
I keep reminding myself “it is very possible he goes 0-4 with 3k’s. Stop expecting the Hollywood ending-just to get here is wow.”
Truly, I will be happy just to get one chance to stand and applaud when he’s introduced as a pinch-hitter. The fan equivalent of giving him a hug and whispering “there, there, it’ll be okay.”
this makes me unbearably sad
Andrus – 0.2 fWAR
Semien – 5.5 fWAR
A’s – 4.5 games behind Houston
Andrus has a positional benefit…
But then where would they get the money to sign Mitch Moreland and Trevor Rosenthal?
Hey the Astros lost.
Kapri using every inch of this park so far.
Second inning, infield in? I dunno, bob.
Star Mart!
We may need dalton jeffies today
Kaprilian needs to throw strikes this inning
Not like that
Apparently not all strikes. Wow
sigh
Son, tell Mr. Cabrera thank you for the lesson in pitch location.
Kap is already 25 IP over his former professional high.
Hello from a pizza and pints place in Boise. And, dammit Kaprielian.
Is that like pizza and pipes?
Pizza and better wifi than the Ramada probably has.
I have hit the 3 pint limit and with a 3-1/2 hour game will have to chance it at the Ramada.
Order another pizza.
Looks like I’m glad I missed those 15 minutes.
My Boise impressions from popular culture include the blue football field and a bad Lynyrd Skynyrd song.
I would limit to the Smurf Turf. It has never impressed me much.
With no need to go in a straight line, I think another college town, Missoula, is tomorrow’s destination. Might go up into Canada, only issue being I have a whole lot of stuff in the car and would have to clear Customs twice.
Not sure what Covid-spreading event I’m running into in Missoula. The Motel 6 at the travel plaza out on the interstate was $131/night, and that’s with the AARP discount. I got the downtown Red Lion down to about $100 on Priceline with coupon discounts. The football team is @ Washington on Saturday so it’s not that. Just families moving their kids in? Well, part of the adventure.
The big event in town is Maggotfest, which apparently is to amateur rugby what Sturgis is to motorcycling.
36-hour review of Missoula: This is a really nice college town, and a liberal outpost in a region where those are pretty rare. Nice downtown vibe, middle-aged people wearing tie dye (in Montana!), pretty campus, pedestrian and bike friendly, tons of outdoor opportunities in the immediate vicinity. I would call it a smaller, toned-down Eugene. I think if you were looking for a place in the Rocky Mountain region that would probably be cheaper and with a more rugged, less hipster vibe than some comparable places in Colorado, Missoula would be worth a close look.
It’s also giving me a place of comparable size to compare and contrast to Bellingham, where I’ll be starting Sunday.
Oh, and I’ll be at the Missoula Paddleheads game tonight while you all are cussing out the (tick tick tick) Romo blown save.
Good thing we don’t shoot the messenger here.
God, Elvis you fucking suck.
Can Khris play SS?
well he was traded for a short stop, by the transitive property…
wait, cabrera’s HR was this inning?
This game completely slowed down. But at least it is now for the good guys.
Tigers have a Hill in CF for no reason.
ken and vince were saying he is a defensive first guy
also good gag
Marte goes first to home like he’s in the finals of the 400m. What an athlete.
Man that Oly at bat was fun, he knew exactly what pitch he was going to crush and that it would show up in that spot eventually.
I was shocked at how bad a pitch he swung at 2-0. Uncharacteristic for him, but he reset and locked in perfectly.
Jed doubles are back in season.
It would be good to have Jed The Doubles Machine back for September.
Get him out of there asap.
Woukd also be nice to have Kap the non gopher feeder. Talk about refusing to take the W..
So how’s Homer Bailey faring in Vegas?
Was just thinking about him unironically. The ERA isn’t great (or maybe it’s fine for Vegas) but the walks, Ks, and HRs look good.
I like Harrison’s enthusiasm. Some rentals don’t strike me that way (such as Lester, just wearing the laundry for a couple months).
Rat farts
I’m sure Puk will be the one to stop giving up homers…
Puk’s slider is not great.
Really glad Chafin pitched yesterday with the 5 run lead.
Seriously though, why go to Puk at all with a one run lead in the seventh? Diekman, Romo, Trivino, and Chafin should all be available.
I think it’s pretty clear that Chafin is not available. Not sure what’s up with Trivino.
Back spasms last couple days, says Bob
Tweaked his back turning to quickly in the 9th inning for a week.
I got 9.9 problems and they’re all bullpen guys.
Dear god. It’s come to this.
These A’s are really good at giving hope and then just finding ways to lose.
Khris for Elvis?
Melvin decided to punt this game and I don’t understand why.
The Tigers have three guys in the lineup with double O’s in their names.
Pronounced three different ways.
A’s fans have one comment about this game. It has a double O, it has three letters and it starts with a B.
asvd
They’re going to have to get creative to make it through this last stretch. 4/5 of the rotation is now an increasingly ineffective Irvin, tired Kap, Blackburn, and whatever the heck is going with Manaea.
A fresh arm like Bailey can help and even though Jefferies wasn’t great tonight, they’re going to need to find a way to deploy him effectively. And Bob has got to be smarter about not burning his good relievers when he doesn’t need to. It’d also be great if Puk could be something, but I’m getting pretty tired of watching lefties who can throw hard but have no idea how to pitch.
Can’t beat the tigers every time.
I look forward to dashing their hopes next year when the 63-74 A’s host them
Berkeley to start requiring vaccinations for restaurants, bars and gyms.
I’m in favor of pretty much any vaccine mandate, but a little worried that it is putting the burden to check on businesses that might already be struggling.
But I guess it is working OK so far in SF?
Hooray! The business sector knows that there won’t be full recovery without herd immunity. Private sector pressures will ultimately be the most effective. First the selfish holdouts can’t go to bars, then they can’t travel, then they lose their jobs, and I am down for all of it. Get vaxxed or you’re out of society, dickheads.
Can we throw manslaughter charges into that mix pretty please?
went to a show last night. they are well equipped to check, but greeters are now going to be necessary everywhere
Yeah, for places that are checking tickets or IDs anyway, it seems like not a big deal, but it’s a bigger change for restaurants.
Restaurants that have repeatedly shut down, laid off staff, re-opened, struggled to find enough workers, then seen breakthrough infections of vaccinated staff. My sense is that (a few loud idiot proprietors aside) the CA restaurant industry is strongly in favor of vax check requirements.
Lucky for me I’m sick and can watch the A’s game today! Not COVID.
1. Josh Harrison 2B
2. Starling Marte CF
3. Matt Olson 1B
4. Matt Chapman 3B
5. Jed Lowrie DH
6. Mark Canha RF
7. Tony Kemp LF
8. Yan Gomes C
9. Elvis Andrus SS
Starting Pitcher : Frankie Montas
Apparently Montas got flipped with Manaea to pitch today due to visa problems heading to Canada tomorrow.
If you have to be sick, not COVID during a day game is a good way to do it.
MAN NAMED JED!
this is odd.
does frankie have a dui?
Official story was something like processing delays.
delayed by a dui?
Avoiding Canadian gamblers.
Digging the old dude with the yellow fedora and bow tie sitting behind home plate.
Dick Tracy?
Jed Lowrie is a Green and Golden God.
I think I can speak for everyone here when I say that a 7-0 lead in the third inning is not nearly enough.
I will be ok if we do another 7-0 over the next 3. The 0 is just as important. Frankie needs to go 7-8 today.
Khris Davis konkurs!
Feeling good about this one.
OK Frankie, time to throw lots of strikes.
Oh man, getting thrown out at the plate down seven runs ranks pretty dang high on the bonehead scale.
Khris!
Extend him!
What could go wrong?
Maybe we can give him a little playing time in the field..
Currently playing left…
Not gonna lie, that hit put a shit-eating grin on my face that wont go away.
I’m going to scream when Chafin pitches in this one.
Ahhhhhhhh
Woukd love 2 more from Frankie and 1 from Lou to try and get him something good.
I would be OK with a two or three inning Burch Smith afternoon.
I was ready for Melvin to call in Petit for the last put of the 7th here. Then get Romo and Chafin up to finish it.
Just wait.
And Chafin is up.
Oh for fuck’s sake. I apologize for saying anything good about Guerra.
Guerra. What is he good for?
Absolutely nothing. Don’t say it again.
My to that point pleasant drive got a bit more stressful right then.
Melvin is laughing his ass off at all of us. “SEE!!! THROW THEM EVERY DAY!”
Not sure my heart can take another souvenir ball hit to the kid near the RF pole wearing a Slayer tee shirt.
Romo is still terrifying.
That really should have been a sweep but we’ll take it.
Four years after botching World Cup qualification for the first time since 1985, the USA men finally start their campaign for Qatar 2022 tonight. It’s an eight team double round robin final round, which requires cramming 14 games into five international windows between now and March.
Tonight we’re in San Salvador (7 pm pacific on Paramount+, CBS Sports Network, and Universo). ES should be the weakest of the eight finalists, but playing them at the Estadio Custcatlan is never easy. El Salvador’s new coach is former USA international Hugo Perez, who seems to have them in a good place.
Sunday we host Canada in Nashville. Canada hasn’t come close to qualifying for the World Cup since being the worst team at Mexico 1986 (3 losses, no goals). They are suddenly pretty good though, led by Bayern Munich’s world class wingback Alphonso Davies.
Wednesday we travel to San Pedro Sula, Honduras. They aren’t the most talented, but playing them is always an ugly, physical grind, especially at their place. God knows what kind of legs either team will have left by the time that one rolls around.
The other contenders are Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Panama. Top three at the end of all this go through automatically, while fourth place enters a playoff round against someone from Asia, South America, or Oceania. I’d say the USA and Mexico are strong favorites for top two, with the question after that being whether Canada has improved enough to leapfrog Panama (shock qualifiers last time), Costa Rica, and Honduras. Jamaica is also supposedly resurgent, having recruited a bunch of England-born players to their side.
Should be fun!
I’ve been reading some of the previews, consensus seems to be US should easily have the talent to qualify. I will feel a lot better once they win a road match though. I know this is a totally different coach and roster (besides Pulisic), but the 2017 faceplant is fresh in the memory.
This team has enough talent to not only qualify comfortably, but do some damage once they get there. And other than Pulisic’s covid rehab (he should be ready for Canada, one hopes), they are at full strength. They are, however, very young, with only a handful of them having any experience playing World Cup qualifiers, or any games in Central America or the Caribbean for that matter.
The good news about that is that almost none of them were involved with the unpleasantness last time around. I think they have the mentality to get the job done with style, but no way to know until they put up a result or two.

That was not horrible but also not inspiring.
I liked after the match, the long shot of the stadium, a guy was raising his hands in the eye line of the camera with a cigarette in fingers
They managed the game ok. Never looked in danger, never let the crowd come into play. Could have snuck a goal at some point to win it but just had no cohesion in attack at all.
Covid outbreak among Oracle concession workers, they may go out on strike as early as tomorrow, seeking hazard pay and better access to health benefits.
a friend’s vaccinated daughter came down with covid and the only place they could figure was field club seats they had there
Frank Schwindel wins NL rookie of the month, while we kept Piscotty, Moreland and Bolt on the roster this year.
At least he’s still in A’s gear in his yahoo sports bio …
I dr k’d the twitter account
Do we have a bunch of punk rock public defenders following us now? Parents of SF schoolkids? Guys named Ed?
other way, I retweeted the kemp semien davis pic on my account
