Oakland heads to the shed for the last series before the break.
Irvin vs. Jordan Lyles, Fri 5:05
Kaprielian vs. Foltynewicz, Sat 1:05
Bassitt vs. Kolby Allard, Sun 11:35
We miss Kyle Gibson again, but Allard is also having a good year, and Foltynewicz has had two good starts against us.
Today’s game is brought to you by the letters LIDP.
I’m back to how I usually feel during Kemp at bats.
They better cash in some runs here.
Murphy is so slow that the Rangers gifted away a 5-2-3 double play on that.
If the A’s can’t hit enough to curb stomp the crappy Rangers most of the time then they have no chance. Not even really a contender.
73 pitches. Probably a bridge too far even pitching this Well.
Oh good, Joe West is here to evil things up a bit.
That play on Chapman at second base, I wondered how the umpire got that wrong in the first place. It looked like he had a perfect view and the safe call was obvious at quick glance.
Is this our first joe west since 2019?
Eli White. I don’t get it.
When Irvin falls apart, it happens quick.
Piscotty, brown, Kemp
schwindel, piscotty brown is the same thing
And it’ll come down to Bolt, Piscotty, Kemp in the 9th.
That is part of the problem, but so is the supposed good part of the order doing nothing in the 7th and 8th.
I mean, they loaded the bases then hit a ball 10 MPH
Yeah plus the entire lineup shit the bed against Jordan Lyles.
I don’t usually believe that firing coaches really changes anything but at this point, you’d have to take a hard look at what Darren Bush is contributing to the team and how guys like Murphy, Chapman, Laureano, Pinder, Piscotty have taken massive steps back in their approach and production.
The one guy having a breakout year at the plate, Olson, strongly credited the assistant hitting coach with helping him this year.
0-11 with a walk
Sigh
This is painful to watch.
that was good. too bad the bats don’t work
This team has a touch of Steve Deberg in them I fear.
Last chance, down just one run, we’re sending up Bolt Piscotty and Kemp.
Pathetic how easy that was for their closer.
Honestly can’t remember the last time a “contending” A’s had me this desperate for the All Star break. This lineup with this much dead weight is just not worth watching.
In the past month there have been maybe 2 games the A’s weren’t in. But without Canha, more often than not, they can’t pull off the win
The string of losses are depressing, but not nearly as depressing as the realization that ownership could do something about it but would rather thwart california law to not provide low income housing
was there a trade for a corner outfielder and a reliver yet?
Fosse talking about how great it is for a pitcher to have a great umpire like Joe West behind the plate.
OTOH Edwin Moscoso who will be behind the plate tomorrow, is supposed to be good there but has blown a couple clear calls on the base paths this series.
and a check swing on elvis (to be fair, there was no replay and I am often fooled)
Could really use a win today to distract me from the latest Las Vegas horseshit. I’m getting dangerously close to “you know what? Go to hell if you don’t even care enough to upgrade the roster mildly.”
yes, It is really really hard to care about the team right now. Ownership is really really testing us
Especially when the upgrades seem so obvious and simple. It isn’t like we need 2 Frontline starters and a power hitting fast 2B or something. A competent OF bat and a couple of bullpen arms…
exactly
GO YANKEES
I would never go quite that far. But speaking of which, did you see this Great Moment in Broadcasting Off Monitor?
Hahahaha. Thank you for this.
Sterling did this again tonight. It was a Rays “homer,” so the call was more muted, but it was still hilarious.
that strike two take and two steps to first base by chapman is evidence he is not back to recognizing pitches
Ken notes that the Mariners are just 2.5 games behind the A’s and Vince insightfully opines “they’ve played very confident baseball.”
I think i am starting to see why slusser bailed
The notion that the M Resort area is a “leading candidate” has me doing the John McEnroe imitation. That place is waaaaay out at the very fringe of the developed area. The land would be cheap and they could build, oh, a concrete bowl surrounded by enormous parking lots. If they are seriously thinking of that, honestly they would have been far better off pushing harder for Fremont 15 years ago. That’s far from a lot of the population of Alameda and Contra Costa counties but has San Jose on the other side. Nuthin’ on the other side of the M Resort but coyotes and roadrunners.
If Fisher started trying to buy sand and scrub brush out there I almost think MLB would step in and say, “No, if we’re going to have a team in Las Vegas we want it to be successful and your miserly choice of that site would prevent that.”
I still think the LV talk is pure attempted leveraging and there will be a HT deal in the offing soon enough. The parties just sound too close not to.
So Guerra is no longer on team white flag. Ok
It probably goes without saying but I’m really tired on this Rangers guy.
brown instead of piscotty?
chapman murphy and lowrie is better for the 9th than last night
uhg
Great time for DieBBman to show up.
Also, enough with Eli White.
wait, they are pinch running for Lowe? Woodard is on to Diekman
Cannot let gallo beat you
Christ on a cracker.
7 walks to them, 0 to us.
We deserve to lose.
Seriously what the hell are we even doing?
Why is Bolt bunting there? (because he can’t hit, I know, but …)
And then why is New Guy who has never had a major league AB pinch hitting for Kemp?
New Guy might not be around for very long.
So far, not clearing the bar of being better than Machin.
he is a thirdbaseperson, yeah?
Has played more 3B than 2B, but lots of both.
I think a second and third base person.
Well at least we get New Guys glove.
Oh, nevermind.
I do like Elvis as the Manfred man.
Lowrie a triple away from the cycle.
Smith is up? I mean I get it-Melvin 8s old mother Hubbard right now, but SMITH?
moll, smith, romo
JB Wunderkind finishing what he sort of started.
Sweet Almondy SHOCKER!!
Add on.
I just praying Cowboy Joe is bored and wants to get back to the hotel.
2 outs, 0-2, and you end up with a walk and a WP. Typical Athletic.
Happy that Piscotty did a thing.
Yay, not going into the break on a losing streak. See y’all in the second half.
(he said, losing track of the calendar altogether)
Thank God I’m not the only one. I spent the last few innings continually thinking “put a starter in, after today they have a week off..”.
manaea is the only one available, yeah?
how have we not talked about how bad the fonts on fox’s copa coverage is?
Messi left the bases loaded with no outs there. No insurance run.
a slow developing play
Weems did not fare well today in LA
Reddick was better.
Anyone got any interest in the draft?
yes, but, I am not going to be around a lot today and don’t have anything meaningful to contribute
I think they mixed up the picture with one of milo’s 13u teammates
Sounds like the A’s are likely going prep again this year.
As long as they don’t go with someone who will sign but will never play an inning.
Fangraphs is linking us to a “Max Muncy” this year.
Its all even more of a fools errand than usual. BA has done 7 mocks with 6 different guys linked to the A’s.
Same birthday as the other Max Muncy, too. The matrix is glitching, and the Dodgers are happy.
This year is among the least predictable drafts and a big part of that is that the top college hitters were pretty inconsistent. There is a deep crop of HS SS and lots of depth due to the shortened draft this year.
Of course minor league signing Jed Lowrie was our best offseason move this year.
I was sure White was going to catch that. I would have assumed he’d catch something in the 2nd deck at this point against us.
Chapman has a decent chance of breaking Cust’s single season A’s K record (197). I think they have the same number of Ks coming into today at the same point in their respective seasons.
sterling gonna dive in the 119th minute again?
Grealish. Dude. Shin guards are a thing.
Naturally
oh my
fyi, fuck the yankee bullpen
Wow. My team won but I feel sick for that kid.
can’t put that kid in that situation
Yeah, borderline unconscionable decision. Especially surprising from Southgate, who is personally traumatized by his own penalty miss.
hey kid, sit here for 2 hours and pop in the match with a minute left and take the anchor penalty to keep hope alive
Ian sounded completely broken by the end.
That seems to be the universal sentiment, at least, instead of permanent villification.
At least we don’t have to suffer that buffoon Johnson claiming it for Brexit.
This Rocker guy the Mets got at #10 was getting first overall hype at one point, right?
yes, I remember as late as march someone said he is “already the best pitcher on the pirates”
His velocity dropped and I think he had some meh starts in the latter half of the season. If the A’s took him, we’d be scheduling his TJS right about now.
He was highly regarded coming out of high school but made it pretty clear he was going to college so he’d been the early favorite for the #1 pick in this draft for years. His velocity was down early in the year and some think he may be a reliever in the end, which partly explain him dropping.
And they didn’t sign him, apparently for medical reasons. Whoops.
Just Mets things.
KC made an odd pick there with Mozzicato. Maybe trying to save $
With 6 picks to go, what do you think of the remaining crop of prep position players? Seems likely that quite a few of Taylor, Muncy, Kath, Pacheco, Baez, Chandler would still be there.
The A’s have such a small bonus pool though so I dunno whether Taylor and Chandler are in play.
No strong opinion here. I just hope they don’t try anything cute.
A’s do indeed go Max Muncy. From BA:
Day two is going to be more interesting. I want a preview of who the A’s will be linked to but wont get for matt Olson in 2023
Welp, Max Muncy v 2.0
Slightly overslot ($2,740,300)
good lord everything is so stupid
just got back from a trip to a coupla yubas.
good game.
good fucking game!
took everything from brasil.
ball handling? gone. pacekeeping? gone. LMB? gone.
(I’M LOOKING AT YOU LIO!)
Soaker, as the rules authority can you tell us if there’s any chance we get the Dodgers’ Muncy through some type of clerical error?
In round 2 the A’s take Zach Gelof:
Round 3, Mason Miller:
Round 4, Denzel Clarke (I like this pick ask he’s got some intriguing potentual):
Saagh.
