So that game 1 sure was a disappointment. If only we had a recent example of our resiliency…
While I am not in the immediate vicinity of Chavez Ravine, I can at least tell you in the south bay of LA it feels a bit cooler today. Hopefully that keeps at least some baseballs in the park.
Semien,La Stella,Pinder,Canha,KD,Olson,Murphy,Laureano,and Piscotty
Camelot sure fell apart, didn't it? -Steve McCatty
And yes I do believe we messed the whole thing up by not putting up a game thread. I also wore a new shirt very similar to the new shirt I wore during game 1 of the last round. So yesterday was 100% on me folks. Sorry, wont happen again.
mikeA might’ve played the manticore card too soon.
Scapegoats are important for community. We might have to exile you to the wilderness with all of our sins, Aces.
Everything went to hell as soon as I checked on the game … that one was on me.
it’s like she doesn’t know the term yatch rock.
Shouldn’t they paint BLM on the back of the mound?
kelly green >>> hi-liter orange
I BLESS THE RAINS DOWN IN AFRICA!
Somehow the TBS crew spent the whole inning talking about the A’s rotating cast of hitters in the three spot without once mentioning the name “Chapman.”
I am flabbergasted that TBS/MLB hasn’t made the A’s change hats. The green screen effect is hilarious and really takes you out of the action
So, anyone want to sign up for a month of Ed treatment?
In your capacity as a defense attorney? A baseball coach? Or did you mean ED treatment?
Khrushed!
There clearly is a second act in the life of Krush.
Three straight curves to Khris, hanging the third one. OK.
This guy just does not seem to like throwing fastballs.
I like having a guy lastella in the lineup. He seems really JV in the field
I knew we were fked as soon as they said Springer had never hit a HR off of Manaea.
Another pitch on the outside corner that he managed to pull, same as yesterday.
Maybe need to pound him inside.
Yay Khris! Damnit Springer. (I had to take a work call)
Fk you for talking about how Springer hadn’t had a homer off of Manaea.
one was never going to do it
I thought Ramon would be someone who could rise to the occasion in the postseason but so far no dice.
Dusty says it’s unseasonably warm there, silently wonders if the team with darker skin tones has the advantage.
Nice shot of Dusty hocking a loogie out the bottom of his mask.
What the fuck was that Piscotty.
I do not know about dusty. i think this season, and this post season especially, he really has lost the team. He is letting them say stupid stuff everyday, and still be aggrieved.
Its dumb
It could be he knows this is it win or lose so he is writing out the lineup card and hoping he can catch lightning in a bottle. But it doesnt seem like he was the type that would do that.
I doubt he ever had the team, forced upon them as a PR fig leaf from an otherwise unrepentant organization.
Being aggrieved has always been a big part of his shtick. It’s one of the reasons I could never stand him, but it may be an effective baseball management technique.
It’s probably an effective approach with this bunch of assholes. Everyone’s mad at you? That’s just because they are jealous. It’s you who should be mad at them!
Glad the guy who has had knee issues decided to be aggressive. TOOTBLAN
I’m fine with aggressive baserunning if it’s going to be close, but he was out by like 15 feet.
Yeah, worthwhile risk strategy but poor choice of opportunity.
I do not like that kyle tucker motherfucker. seems real whiny
[taps sign]
Kyle tucker is a motherfucker
Probably don’t let Manaea face Springer a third time.
Or Maldonado a second time apparently.
Pinder! What a blast!
Damn, Chad. That went a long way.
I don’t know, maybe dusty had a point about sluggers that clog up the bases
Your run of the mill 4-3-6? The PxP was real bad so Im assuming ground ball into the shift making the DP?
Hard grounder to Altuve. He threw to first knowing that there wasn’t much risk of Khris making a close tag play at second.
Yeah, I’m ok with never seeing Manaea start another playoff game.
This is very frustrating.
A’s are gonna have win at least one game this series by out-slugging the Astros. Better start soon.
The problem seems to be that they have more good hitters than we do.
(Or more specifically, that our hitters never seem to all be good at the same time.)
What sort of nonsense ballpark is this
We’re really going with Minor on a back-to-back. OK.
Another good call by Melvin. Pinder KD and Minor our stars of the game so far.
Turns out Minor is our best pitcher. Good to know.
OK boys let’s get some taters!
Alright how bout some dingers?!
I will accept some dongs!
Meanwhile, Nadal is playing the 19-year-old wunderkind Sinner in a great match. Apparently the first time a match at the French has gone beyond midnight, partly because the Schwartzman/Thiem match went over 5 hours.
Cant wait until 10/24 or so when we hear that Canha is having surgery on his shoulder and how it really hindered his approach the last 2-3 weeks. Perfect cleanup hitter.
Although I praised Bob’s lineup decisions earlier today, I am definitely wondering about that one. He sure hasn’t looked right recently.
Yeah the way it has been having Murphy so low in the order is a huge mistake.
Just remembered they haven’t used Grienke yet. FK.
Hmmm
Depressing stuff. They are not competitive at the moment.
Second game in a row the offense has disappeared after the 4th inning, which is the opposite of the regular season MO. Maybe part of it is the shadows there, that they just mentioned.
Why the fk is Hendriks warming up?
Our three runs in the bottom of the inning are going to come too fast to get him loose.
Could we just once go into the playoffs hot. This is just sad. I should be used to it, but it sucks anew each time.
Is the comeback going to be epic?
yes
Oh I hope so.
C’mon, let’s get some guys on.
a bloop and a bloop and a blast
is this thing out of 3 or out of 5?
—
also, stephen miller.
Out of 5…but also out of 3 probably…
And don’t try to cheer me up…
Uh, but if you’ve got some news on these two…
sessions i get. but i didn’t realize rosenstein’s sanctimony went this far.
Since Mrs. Miller got it back in May I can only assume even she finds Steven Miller unfuckable.
hey now. if marrying into one’s aversion therapy worked for pence…
Crap
Nuts.
If there is one thing that defines this team though, its having their backs to the wall
Seen a lot of playoff series where the A’s lost and I thought they were equal or better than the other team but just choked. This is not one of those series so far.
Yep, Astros look like the better team by a lot. Fuckers.
Yes, the offense has been inconsistent at best, but they really need a starter to step the FK up. There’s been 7 playoff games since Lester 2014, and only one time has a starter managed to get past 5. Montas and Luzardo are both more than capable of dominating, it’s time to just fucking do it.
Feels like the A’s could use a change of scenery in this series that they are not going to get.
!
If we can just beat Urquidy tomorrow, we can still take this.
I agree, though starting Luzardo worries me more than it should.
The last couple of years I have felt like “well it is awful but this team is young and talent is coming up”. I dont feel like that now-the pipeline is pretty much done and contracts are going to start coming due. And with no change on the stadium/ownership front we have a potential fire sale/reload situation looming. Glad this afternoon was and tomorrow will be busy with work.
I was trying to think of a scenario where this team is better next year. Healthy Chapman, first full seasons for Murphy and Luzardo…but everything else should be neutral or worse. And after next season it’s blow up time.
There is still a good youngish core (Chapman, Olson, Laureano, Murphy, Montas, Luzardo).
Khris being good again for a year would be a nice bonus.
But Semien, La Stella, Grossman, Hendriks, Soria, Petit, Fiers (plus assorted spare parts) are already a lot of significant roles to fill for a team that doesn’t spend money and whose best prospects aren’t ready.
La Stella might come back reasonably cheap. Hendriks may be worth throwing money at.
Shortstop is the most gaping hole. I doubt they will want to commit big money to Semien for 4-5 years, and am not sure they should.
Agreed. Though he has brought his contract down throughout the season.
Petit and soria we can thank and excuse
Sure, but it’s another place where we are likely to be a little worse next year.
Same with Fiers. We shouldn’t re-sign him, he’s a fifth starter, but he gave us some decent innings and we don’t know if Kaprielian or Jefferies or whoever will be even that good.
There’s a good young core you could turn into a real championship contender with a big acquisition or two. But they aren’t going to do that.
Very 03-04 feel.
Exactly. I dont think there area lot of pieces missing. But they are pieces you will have to pay for and it will be more than resigning La Stella (which we really really should do).
The storyline was this group gets us to where we are at least ready to start putting a gold shovel in the ground, which then means we spend more in advance of opening day. But this fantastic year has put the little chance that had of happening on ice. Even the scenario where HT goes belly up and we back into a new Coli is scrapped because who know WTH is going to happen.
I didn’t have anything that wasn’t bitter or sarcastic to add today so I just STFU. It didn’t help.
Politics and schadenfreude aside, long-term the White House COVID outbreak is quite a bonanza for epidemiologists. Meticulously photographed events plus nearly universal multiple follow-up tests should give them a great case study. Add in previously infected-then-recovered participants to study reinfection chances.
I can’t get past this charade about Pence not being in close contact with anyone who is COVID+ when we have pictures of him surrounded by carriers. I don’t feel at all comfortable with Kamala being in a room with him.
The photos of the plexiglass “barriers” in the Chronicle today do not inspire confidence.
He wasn’t getting tested at all recently until he started feeling sick and Hope got it is my guess.
As a coastal elite with a news obsession it’s hard to put myself in the mind of someone who voted Trump last time in, say, Arizona or Pennsylvania. Absorbing the scope of Trump’s personal and repeated reckless disregard for his staff, supporters, national leaders, Secret Service, the Joint Chiefs, etc. That has to impact the vote, it just has to. Enough real Americans still have empathy, I’m going to keep believing that. Possibly until it’s too late.
One productive thing I did during the dismal game today: looking at some of the down-ballot stuff and filling out my ballot which will go in the mail tomorrow.
My county:
2012:
Mitt 62.42%
Obama 35.65%
Others 1.33%
NOTA 0.59%
2016:
Trump 62.45%
Clinton 30.32%
Others 4.17%
NOTA 3.06%
I’m mildly optimistic that we can hold Trump to below 60% and give Biden maybe 32-33%. NOTA gets the bump to around 5% from some conservative independents.
OK kid, let’s see it.
Gotta say, that’s a pretty big surprise to me (and admittedly I would have preferred Montas).
He needs to come out like Dock Ellis (either throw a no-hitter, or hit every single batter).
Saw the necessary comments:
-who else do you want to help us rise in the 3rd day?
-it does seem like we need a miracle.
I cant imagine he stays in long if he is bad. Screw game 4 and 5, Montas in the pen to start.
Tripping his tits off.
I like this a lot. Montas could come out and pitch really well and still get beat, the way the ball is flying. Luzardo is the one A’s pitcher who could be brilliant.
This would tip Norm Gunderson over to Biden for sure.
They should start Weems and have him hit the first three batters. See how it goes from there.
I had been hoping to have more fun.

Uh, maybe give up on pitching in the rest of this series.
