Against all odds (or logic) the MLB season is starting in approximately 6 hours. Still things to work out:
– Where tf are the Blue Jays going to play (Camden seems like the preferred option at this point)
– 10 -> 16 playoff teams?
A’s roster is set:
The Oakland A’s reinstated RHP Daniel Mengden from the 60-day IL, placed LHP A.J. Puk on the 10-day IL and optioned C Jonah Heim to their alternate site. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s designated RHP Daniel Gossett for assignment. The A’s Opening Day roster: pic.twitter.com/e4xSdoIwov

Honestly they should just stick with “Washington Football Team”.
Just get dressed on the field, cowards.
Uh, shouldn’t all those he came into contact with be quarantined then until they get their results? Or is MLB already brushing off their own protocols cause otherwise there’s no way this season would work?
“No other player ineligible after contact tracing” according to the ticker on ESPN. That’s convenient. I have never understood how this all works, but at least so far there have been fewer positive tests than I expected.
I’m ok with this.
If that is the biggest complain that comes out of this season I will eat a hat.
2019:
T1: Houston 40-20 (final: #1 107 wins)
T1: Minnesota 40-20 (#3 101 wins)
3. NY Yankees 38-22 (#2 103 wins)
4. Tampa Bay 37-23 (#5 96 wins)
5. Texas 32-28 (#8 78 wins)
6. Cleveland 30-30 (#6 93 wins)

T9. LA Angels 29-31 (T9 72 wins)

I also ran it using the last 60 games, rather than the first 60, which maybe is more valid:

T2. Tampa Bay 39-21
4. Oakland 39-21
5. NY Yankees 37-23

T8. Boston 28-32
T8. Seattle 28-32
—
T10. Chicago White Sox 27-33
T10. Texas 27-33
Also ran: BAL, KC, LAA, DET
Along with everything else, I have to wonder how much they want us to take this season seriously when Angel Hernandez is the HP umpire and crew chief of this opener (already making his presence known with that shitty K call on Kendrick in the 1st).
God, Manfred is awful. He barely sounds like he understands his own new playoff format. And hearing the ESPN crew have to slobber all over him when we know everyone in baseball hates the guy is just pathetic.
Matt chapman was good and cheery on the giants game
Mostly for av and colin:
Orange county continues to be the wooooorrrrrssssttttt
Yeah, that all is really terrible.
Nothing a little re-branding can’t fix.
They already dropped that plan. The woman who would have been in charge of it basically said that there was nothing at the label worth saving.
blerg.
they’re the people who bring the mosswood park old people’s music festival i love.
this years’ already got moved from july to october to next year.
wonder if it’ll be cancelled.
https://burgerboogaloo.com/dear-fans/
Sounds like the promotion company that runs the festival (which is not Burger Records) is going to carry on under a different name. I haven’t seen any statement from John Waters, who hosted the last few of these.
a little more reported
oh, there it is. this guy, Marc Ribak
i think its marco or marcos, but yeah
As colin notes, that is a different group.
The one of the men that organizes, not really sure what his real name is, I met in seattle in about 2000. He and a friend hopped a rail car to travel from berkeley. I call him boxcar. he was in the rock and roll adventure kids. His brother is the drummer for johnny bartlett’s current outfit, the ogres. the brother runs three ocklock rock where my older kid is a drummer for one of their bands.
edit to add, I have known him for 20 years, he is a weirdo, for sure, but not in anyway a creep, also I think this has to do with the fullerton scenseters and not the music fest.
i think i know who you’re talking about and he’s pretty nice. first thing i did was image google the names of the record people to see if it was him and was glad it wasn’t.
I just read a bunch of LinkedIn posts from people laid off from LinkedIn talking about how great it was to work at LinkedIn and how excited they are to find their “next play” or whatever after LinkedIn and I am pretty much ready to die.
don’t die.
Just on the inside
Great news for some luxury hotel in Buffalo, if nothing else.
Let’s Go Buffalo!
Sounds like Sahlen FIeld is getting a bunch of upgrades, lighting, dugouts and clubhouses, hopefully a good thing for Buffalo longer-term.
73.9% odds to make the expanded playoffs, per fangraphs.
Wow
When I need to use video I head out to the Garage Mahal and sit in from of our stage-prop Taj. People routinely think it’s a fake backdrop with *really* good motion sensing.
Cespedes!
Great case for the universal DH right there.
LOL
To be fair, he had a better 2019 than our opening night cleanup hitter.
I am excited!
Sonny had a nice opening day start — 6 innings, 1 ER on a solo dinger, 3H / 9K / 2BB.
Tommy Milone though…
The fake crowd noise at the Trop is extra unpleasant.
C’mon, zero boos from the Coliseum fake fans for any of the Angels starters?
KD doffing his cap and pointing to the imaginary fans. Love it.
Start the FKing game already.
That Bud Light Seltzer ad is brutal.
Remember when I said 2020 was going to be my year? That was a fucking joke. Let’s play ball.
Hi Jennifer!
so the Fire TV doesnt even give me the radio feeds for the game? Glass half full-much easier to FK from the computer and Im not watching anything anyways…
LET’S GO OAKLAND!
There’s a stuffed elephant in the Lew Wolff Memorial Seat.
Come on blue.
Frankie may be a little over excited.
Throw some FKing strikes.
he is throwing some that aren’t called
Yeah, the ump is bad.
i am not liking this frankie as much as I expected
According to my buddy the radio feed is at least a batter behind TV. Or he is psychic, one of those.
This umpire didn’t read the stories about robot umps coming soon.
dallas is our front row neighbor
Murphy’s framing hasn’t helped, but the ump didn’t call 3 of Frankie’s sliders at the bottom of the strike zone.
Heaney immediately gets a called strike in the same place.
I’m ready for robot umps ASAP. I mean Wtf was that?
Maybe its not murphy
Nothing like an 11 pitch inning that lasts 4 minutes to let Frankie settle down.
Was hoping they’d keep the LAA defense on the field a bit longer than that.
Someone needs to tell Frankie that he has a really good infield defense behind him.
sean that one was that a strike
unless that box is really off (possible) the ump ismissing todays game
The box is accurate, the ump is not.
if this was the KBO, he’d be D’dFA by the 6th
Seems evenly awful.
hey hey!
and yes
Whatever Indian burial relic the team dug up last Sept…can they go put it back please?
crowd noise is not good. need to dial it back
Feels like a Gnats fan is on the controls and it isnt Oakland noise. Need more drums.
Murphy sticking with The Passenger
Common theme in the 3 games so far is that A’s hitters can’t seem to do anything with fastballs.
Well it isn’t like you normally see a lot of THOSE…
Semien pops up a 3-1 88 mph fastball…
2018 frankie has been nice to see
No Glen, Pujols is not going to tag up from second against Laureano.
ESPN clowns just forgot there are three outs in the inning.
Frankie in the first 2 innings wasn’t as wild as it seemed, but he was the last 2
this bottom half has had troubling calls
Rrrrrrramon!
BOON
Is that an earthquake? NO, ITS RAMON!
Lasered!
Krush is done as an everyday player. Change my mind.
I wish I could.
I’m getting to the point where I think it’s almost a good idea to PH Grossman for him in that situation.
Khris Davis is having a lot of success these days. Maybe the best in baseball. Lots of people are saying it. Just the other day this guy came up to him, big tough biker guy, and said “Sir, I wish you could take all the AB’s,” and started crying.
Person Woman Man Camera KD
These may be the most convincing arguments I have heard.
now petit has the gauntlet
Good move going to him rather than letting Montas face them a third time.
Yes. Also I am OK with up to 60 appearances from Petit this season.
I can’t imagine the horror running face-first into Sandoval’s ass.
6 A’s runs please
this is soooooo bizarre
Hey there!
Figured I should complete the bizarro season vibe.
The new decade in A’s baseball wouldn’t have been the same without you.
So you’re saying once a decade is enough?!?
Good to see you nm
Good to have sports again.
I missed previously that all ties this year will be broken mathematically, no Game
16361. Specifically, “The first tiebreaker is head-to-head record (if applicable). If that’s also a tie, the next tiebreaker is intradivision record. If that’s still a tie, the next is record in the final 20 division games (plus one until the tie is broken).”I’m pretty sure the final tiebreaker is whose announcers are most concerned about how great it is.
We can only pray. Also-HEY!
::waves::
New new Scioscia needs a Sciosciaface mask.
Seriously.
Great AB from Murphy, laying off the 2-0 slider he couldn’t do anything with, then working the walk
Good news! Tj mcfarland is warming up in the bullpen….
Any time it isn’t Diekman…
pitching like diekman
Very true. I also think it is good to see you and also Jennifer, exciting times!
Bad news!…
The fans look board.
Groan. Look at you with the Dad jokes.
I still like him personally
Same-and I can totally see him having some monster year.
was chapman on the grass to start?
Yup
I actually kinda like the background noise (when nothing is happening) on
radiopod.Christ.
I must say, I don’t recall Soria’s 2019 peripheral stats looking remotely as good as they did.
He was mostly good, but he had some spectacularly bad outings so the perception isn’t great.
no low strikes all day.
Seriously? GBA?
No one knelt.
Take Me Out To The Ballgame or go fuck yourself.
walk, strike out, double
never doubted you jake
I will never understand how or why we use Grossman.
Ramon!
Ramon is fking awesome.
sit the fuck down joe
STFU ESPN morons.
I approve of triples.
I changed where I was list6. So…you’re welcome.
Yay the lead, yay Ramon and Chapman booming, but omg the baserunning…
I can’t believe I remember this, but Laureano’s baserunning boner was eerily similar to opening day 2014 when Barton did the exact same thing (in that case it ended up costing the A’s runs and probably the game).
So… typical E5 + TOOTBLAN night for Chapman.
can’t blame chapman for either boner today. that was a tough bounce
E5 was all him. And it sure looked like he could have gone back post bounce.
sure sure, but that is going to happen over a 162 game season
I mean, hes on pace for 60 errors….
did the tee vee guys know what the fuck scioscia was arguing about?
Plate ump didn’t call Chappie’s first-pitch swing a strike.
ah. well, he did
I don’t know if any first baseman makes the play on Laureano’s double, but having Pujols at first to accommodate Ohtani is something I like.
can i selectively like the 3 batter rule?
shit
Holy fk this umpire…
Rat farts.
Sorry, I’ll go back to bed now…
Or, I’ll stay
We certainly don’t know.
Schrödinger’s bed.
Or is it Bed’s schrodinger?
Not last year’s Liam tonight.
Having the same closer be good two straight years is not really a thing the A’s do much.
Weems needs to find some good music because he is the logical A’s choice.
robot umps
Is this guy consistently awful? KK sounds like hes bad but hes been the same bad all game.
Bad, but a lot easier to tell with the box on the screen. He’s very susceptible to pitch framing and the A’s have bad pitch framers.
I had heard so much about Murphy being a Chappy level defender behind the plate. He has seemed pretty bad at framing by the eye test. He does seem athletic at stopping wild pitches though. Still, disappointing.
WTF is Bob doing
getting the platoon split
Phew. I didn’t like the IBB either.
Anyone who hits a walk-off should get a cooler of hand sanitizer dumped on him.
C’mon new guy.
Great, zombie runners.
This rule sucks.
Two first-pitch foul outs to the catcher.
That third pitch to Austin looked very much like the third pitch to Castro
I thought he was going going to get thrown out. He definitely said “Now you call it motherfucker” and the ump stared him down.
Where is Wendelken?
last out was marcus, yeah?
Wow.
A good defensive play!
Wow that was sharp from Olson, he looked like he’d been planning for that play since the new rules were announced.
Per Melvinm, Oly and Chapman have in fact been talking about that play for weeks.
I bet Scoscia loves this nonsense and will have the runner on second try to steal first or something like that some time this season.
Have we decided every Angels manager from here to eternity is Scoscia? Because, that’s totally awesome.
Send Semien on the 1st pitch.
I think I would bunt with Laureano, but it’s not clear cut.
I almost can’t believe it but I am watching this. We may only get a couple weeks of baseball but I’m watching. FK GBA, FK the 3 batter rule, but if Semien scores here I’ll be in on the 2nd base rule.
OK math people – should every team automatically intentionally walk the first hitter in extra innings?
No
in the bottom of the inning, maybe. If tied. Right?
Yup, that would be the situation. Not as straight forward as it seems (increases the score through walk chances) but acceptable
Presumably close enough to depend on hitter Quality
So, after Olson walks off, Millman has to face two more batters tomorrow, right?
1/1 in 2020 predictions
Mine started well.
FK FK FK
Just a fly ball.
2 outfielders to defend KD, zero in his pull field
I like Olsen more than KD here.
Agreed.
We did ok.
Will our desperation not to score be overcome by their need to let us?
Oh wow.
PIE
Oly!!!
Fun game!
Matty-O with the dreamy eyes!
Boom, Olson go yard now!
Grand Slam Walk Off BLOOIPR (bases loaded one out – in play runs)
Talk dirty to me.
I thought you’d never ask.
All in all, beating the slegnA with a walkoff GS even with shaky pitching, TOOTBLANs, a bad ump, and mostly asleep bats has got to be a good sign.
OK so why did Scioscia have his two outfielders against KD in right and center?
He probably figures if KD flies to left it’s too deep to throw out a runner at the plate anyway.
What didn’t this game have.
Triple
Multiple rundowns and TOOTBLANS.
E5
Bullpen meltdowns
Offensive futility
PIE
God, every year I forget how hellish and fun this is.
That was satisfying
Runner on second rule is going to benefit home teams, right? It seems like it has to.
I think so.
2.5 war for olsen?
I just heard fosse. nice call there ray
226 comments, Jennifer and nevermoor? What is this? 2010?
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that save for the cutting out of his voice, Vince’s call was good
Bob?
I understand the anthem is a platform right now. That said it has always been stupid, 10x more so in an empty stadium, and 100x more so on the broadcast. Stop now please.
It’s worth it before a Manaea start though, because of the swift segue into Mac Dre – it’s almost like a crossfade.
Heh heh. And hi!
What ho!
I’m with Brittney.
Also with Britney.
Manaea velocity watch more encouraging today: a couple of 90s, 91 in the 1st
Man, KD barreled that pitch and it was still just medium depth fly to left.
I really don’t want to say anything
More than anything, the a’s weren’t really having good at bats early yesterday and again here this afternoon.
that was a hard hit ball. but that’s an error
Just another reminder that Canha hit .296/.418/.548 against righties last year and yet somehow is being platooned.
and doen’t he have a career that was good against righties, not just last year
Yeah he has pretty strong reverse splits for his career and while you can’t say he’s definitively better against righties than lefties, it is pretty clear that you shouldn’t be platooning him.
that was a better inning fir ABs, but if I am KD, I am never swinging with 2 strikes again
I stand by this
And if Grossman is in there for his defense, that isn’t working either.
It’s bizarre. It is very clear that he is much much much better than both Piscotty and Grossman. There is not any remotely plausible argument to the contrary.
I would add KD to that list now too.
simmons. he is the pesky angel mid fielder
Damnit Grossman why the fuck are you here?
52 or so of the 55 pitches Manaea threw today were great.
Surely there’s one of the A’s Tier 3 personnel who could be made to wear the Stomper suit during games. Kaval maybe.
vince reports stomper will be there at some point
Marcus Thompson wrote that Stomper was there last night, looking sad.
What jersey or shirt is he wearing?
I think MTT said it was a BLM shirt.
Unlike many of us, Stomper seems to have lost weight in the stay-at-home era.
Can’t they just let him work from home?
I think it’s time to start Luzardo next time instead of throwing him in these games where we’re already down 4-0.
All the pitching looked pretty good today. That is great.
we don’t need to talk about the hitters
Pitchers ahead of the hitters, yes, if Manaea had kept his slider out of the zone they might still be playing.
There were some decent teAses in the 7th and 8th. I’m not too concerned about the offense.
Taking a nap through a bad game on the radio is a good way to spend a quarantine Sat afternoon. And the game went fast too.
who had royals first to bunt in extras in the pool?
As with Scioscia, all future managers of the Royals will still be named Ned Yost.
4 of 6 teams scored in extras
new favorite
All 15 AL teams have played two games and only one is still undefeated. The damn Astros, of course.
I was worried that I was taking too much schadenfreude from Kimberly Guilfoyle’s struggles…catching the ‘rona, fucking up Trump’s fundraising and alienating staff…then last night I finally watched Bombshell, where she’s portrayed as the leading defender in the Fox newsroom of Team Roger (Ailes). So I have resolved to be OK continuing to wish misfortune upon her.
Canha (RF), Kemp (2b) and Machin (DH) in.
Piscotty, Davis, Pinder out.
Top 5 in today’s lineup should basically always be in.
can the A’s just forfeit the arizona games?
There’s still the Texas and SoCal games…
It’s unbelievable at this point that masks aren’t mandatory in the dugout and clubhouse.
The Eduardo Rodgriguez heart complications should be causing a lot of serious thinking. But I am not seeing it.
“…did everything he possibly could” except wear sunglasses
Lawyerballing ourselves to full sacks.
CANHA GET SOME RIBBIES?!?
Another outstanding PA from Canha, hmmm.
I don’t really see how KD can be ahead of him at this point.
This is a good start.
I want this to put my mind at ease about the bats, but it just makes me think that Ohtani isnt ready.
You might be right.
DP Machin.
x2
He reminds me of Callaspo. A lot of useless contact that results in DPs cause he’s slow. Don’t really see what the A’s see in him.
“His approach” according to the radio team. But an approach that so far is “hit into a DP” doesnt intrigue me.
I guess there’s some value in having a guy who doesn’t strike out and can play multiple positions on the bench. But if he is slow on top of that, it’s not great.
Hmm.
Productive Out Machin!
Feeling pretty uncomfortable with Fiers right now.
Predictable.
Bummer
The Russian is cut!
Dusty is destroying arms faster than ever.
I really FKing hate David Fletcher. And Fiers is throwing nothing but slop.
Was throwing slop.
Dallas loves that Fletcher is a gritty grinder, so yeah, I’m with you.
He just got Vince waxing rhapsodic about David Eckstein.
“He’s one of those baseball rats. Loves being out there. Squeezes every ounce of talent out of his body.”
Vince is such a caricature.
Townsend’s excitement about Verlander going down is kind of gross.
Townsend
’s excitement about Verlander going downis kind of gross.phew, was gonna say just that
Another fine outing from TJ McStaggers.
You tell him from me that he makes one great mozzarella stick.
Machin played eight positions in a AA game last year. He would’ve pitched the ninth to complete the set but the game was close.
Holy crap Murphy obliterated that one.
Murphed
Swung on gone
You know, I really miss Oakland.
me too
Struck him out twice.
Chapman having a rough series on both sides of the ball.
Another not-disastrous Diekman appearance.
BTW, I hope you’ve been enjoying the current season of Alone. I’m not sure exactly when they were filming but even with those conditions I can see the people coming back, see what’s going on down here, and ask to return. I would love it if more than one makes the 100 days.
Hendriks didn’t root it!
First place!
With a gaudy 5.4 – 2.7 record.
The Yankees never actually invited to Trump to throw out a first pitch, and made clear after he announced it that he was in fact not invited, right? It’s the simplest explanation.
My first thought was that he realized that he would have been loudly booed, but then I remembered no fans.
You remembered, he wouldn’t have.
Sadly predictable.
at 275 comments i was gonna guess bed. so many other pleasant surprises tho. hi y’all!
i was out having an actual weekend and the proof it worked is now i have the monday jitters.
Anybody watching the dodgers giants. Had a replay on a HBP, the batter corey seager said the the trainer and dave roberts when they came out, “I’m OK, it hit the bat” but the umpire had said HBP, so the giants challenged. the replay on tv was pretty clear, it hit the bat but it was upheld
And so it starts
I think you mean ends.
what are we doing here?
Confirming that hope is, in fact, not a plan.
They had what, 64 pages of protocols but didn’t institute the likely two most important ones of mandatory masking in the dugout/clubhouses and the isolation bubble for every team. It’s probably too late for the latter but the former can still be quickly done if people would just get past their fking anti-mask attitude.
If these 3 games were it, then it was fun while it lasted.
My office is a 4 bedroom house carved into 6 offices, reception diningroom/library/meeting room and kitchen.
Only 4 people come in now*, three work remotely.
The two people over 65 cannot understand why I wear a mask indoors at all times. the boss said “we wearing masks indoors now?”
People who actively avoid information will make bad decisions.
*I go in for about 3 hours maybe 2-3 days a week
The Marlins players having a team meeting and then deciding, as athletes do, to play through adversity or whatever is so ridiculous. Someone needs to protect these guys from themselves and from each other.
I know they have said it takes 5-14 days after exposure for symptoms to manifest. Is that true of testing also, or would people test positive within a couple of days of exposure?
I have understood it to be you would test positive right away. That was why it is so important to be tested if you think you were exposed regardless of if you are showing symptoms or not. But I could be mistaken.
i understand (from twice-tested, twice negative person) that the brain tickler test shows positivity after 5 days of exposure and that the newer, long-nasal test shows at 2 days.
twice tested twice negative also high five!
no touching.
So it sounds like the Phillies and (what’s left of) the Marlins might get away with taking only 2-3 days off. Still, this is pretty much the scenario I was expecting that will end up making a season unworkable.
fletcher gets on again. 2 strike pitch
Followed by K’s of Trout, Ohtani, Upton.
I would be ok with DingFA fiers when puk is back. I do not trust him to quarantine
The radio crowd noise for the radio has to improve. ground out by semien sounded like a basehit by noise
I read noise and Neuse and I was very impressed with how you can differentiate players by crowd sounds.
Looks like the temperature is in The Hound’s Goldilocks zone.
how do you explain 4 ks in 2 innings but not really putting batters away?
for the photo.
Pitching around Fletcher to get to Trout and Ohtani.
Per Slusser, A’s released Gossett. I’m not high on Gossett but it’s odd that they just outright released him.
Wonder if they had some sort of handshake agreement?
Upton is really bad in left, yeah?
and baserunning?
also, that top 4 was very a’s
His physical drop-off was sharp for a guy who is still just 32, and his baseball instincts also seem to have deteriorated right along with his body. Just a classic Angels signing.
Anyone else watching on CSN-CA getting lots of little glitches in the signal lasting a second or two? It was happening opening night also. Not sure if it is the whole feed or my cable service.
I have it on but am listening on the radio and doing work. Not really noticing on hulu +
I will say that the radio seems to be stretching its lead on the video
OK
Something about the frequency on ch 721 is bad for Comcast, Drives me crazy. I have had intermittent slow frames/pixelation during live games on that channel for over a year. No such issues live sports on other channels.
Happy bat-flipping season everyone!
Canha > Canning
but you can reverse that for their schools, yeah?
Absolutely not
But we can’t play Canha every day because Grossman…
or…
I am half paying attention to this game, and 1/4 to work. I think the other quarter is counting outs is a mostly meaningless game in a season that will never finish
KD has about as much of a clue as Barreto at this point.
Piscotty is barely a shade above.
He was injured last year, he gets off to slow starts, he’s always streaky … how long can they stick with a DH who has been terrible for his last 300+ plate appearances?
I feel really bad the way the radio crew is trying to sell us on how Khris is really close, and he hit that one flyball almost to the wall the other day.
That warning track power though.
Hey, he just had another one.
ken said he just missed it, but i don’t think he did
Diekman for trout ohtani upton?
Would not have been my choice.
Why not just leave Petit in for Trout, at least?
How has Diekman taken over the 8th inning?
No faith in Wendelken or Sweet Lou I guess-and wanting to rest Soria and not pitch Petit a second inning.
no bob no
Pujols < Diekman
2 BBs, 3 Ks. The ideal Diekman inning.
still, he walks lastella. that gets trout coming up as the tying run
Damn it.
is wendelken ok?
I think they said he started throwing after Diekman’s second walk.
Is Soria ok? seeing “deflected by” makes me nervous.
glove
Would have been better with Rendon playing over this guy.
Siddown trout.
that was a tough pitch, but a good one. He must be frustrated. I don’t think i have ever seen him do anymore than a head tilt
Best record in baseball!
And “If the season were to end today” takes on a little more meaning this year.
LOL
So I’m guessing the A’s are going to finish the season with their best winning percentage ever at .750.
Today’s game would not have happened if baseball actually had a commissioner instead of an owners-thrall.
So if I understand the latest protest shooting story, a BLM protester openly carrying a rifle walked up to a car, the driver shot him, then an unrelated protester pulled his own gun and fired on the retreating car. No arrests. Good guys with guns all, apparently.
You see, if you know the other person is armed something something
The worst part is that the Trumpers will use the fact that the initial gun-carrier was pro-BLM as reason to treat all BLM protesters as “terrorists”.
I mean, they’ll do that anyway.
wait. there was no ramming the car at the rifle guy?
Cars don’t kill people, AV, people kill people.
i got in last night and walked into the twitter mess of mis- and disinformation on this event and was too tired to sort it out so i was still under the impression that the driver didn’t realize the car was loaded.
Burch Smith 2-0
Kendall Graveman on the mound right now for Seattle. He looks pretty good.
And as I type that he immediately gives up four runs.
Spoke too soon.
was thinking the same thing but thankfully waited to comment
He is getting strike outs.
And home runs
Well at least he has his health for now.
You know what I like about 2020? there is a thing, honest.
Seeing that Mike Foltynewicz was D’dFA and not wondering why and if he is a reclamation project
Dusty has a touch, don’t he?
It’s been <5 games but I feel like there's definitely been way more arm injuries and decreased velocities across the board. We've got pitchers who usually have had a full month and a half to build up their arms suddenly pitching at max effort with just two to three weeks of build up - this can't be good.
we joke about spring training being too long, but this is getting concerning. I thought maddon was a little too aggressive with bundy and canning. Hopefully bob doesn’t trot out soria tomorrow
I just deleted the worst run on sentence ever-you’re welcome.
Is it really that having a coach and being in real game situations is that important? It felt like these guys could have been on some sort of throwing program daily while this was being hashed out. (This is an honest question)
Billy only cares about
soccerpublicly traded “blank check” venture funds?Ah so that’s how he’s going to pay for Semien and Chapman.
I see Lew Wolff is also involved.
While I probably would trust Billy to beat the returns of a generic index fund over time, I’d also expect greater volatility, which doesn’t sit well with my risk-averse fiscal nature. Also, these “smartest guy in the room takes his skills to a new platform” stories seem to often end in failure.
From the prospectus:
Interesting that Fisher and group are cool with Billy freelancing like this and throwing out a franchise value figure that had better be defensible unless Billy wants a securities lawsuit.
I love the first Risk Factor
Billy’s partner in SPAC just bought the XFL.

Hmm
I’ll be interested to see what they can do when freed from the constraints that choked the site to death over the last ~five years. They’ll need a really good editor to get back in the neighborhood of essential. Wonder what Tommy Craggs is up to.
I am excited, and I could see myself subscribing when the site launches in Sept. But you’re right, a lot of the post-Deadspin work I’ve read has cried out for editing.

Dang, first Gary Larson reappears after more than a decade away, and now Ken Arneson. Our pandemic cup overfloweth.
I think the POScast had a FJM reunion as well.
Hopefully its better than discourse.
A long-held organizational tenet of mine has been that you don’t put issues to the vote of a group if the vote isn’t the deciding factor. Giving people the illusion of input is worse that not giving them input at all. The players should channel all of their opinions through the union. Team by team votes help nothing.
If I am ever given the chance to vote to or not to go to florida, the vote’s outcome will never be in doubt.
