A’s sign Gaudin 10

slusser:

Assistant general manager David Forst emphasized that the A’s did not sign Chad Gaudin to a big-league deal this afternoon because of Michael Wuertz’s shoulder injury – he said the team has been looking to add bullpen depth all spring, ala Edwar Ramirez, Jason Jennings and now Gaudin.

Or is it Assistant to the general manager?

I’m leaning towards Vice General Manager. Or maybe Junior General Manager.

I’ve always liked Gaudin though his numbers didn’t make him a favorite of other folks.

IIRC, he was just beginning to do well as SP when the A’s moved him back to the BP, he wasn’t happy about it (having to make the adjustment) and said so in an interview, and he seemed to get in the doghouse w/ A’s brass after that and was eventually traded.

Where is the good in "good-bye"?

I thought Gaudin left on fairly bad terms–primarily stemming from starter vs. reliever issues? I guess you get more comfortable with the idea when no teams come a callin’. (phrased specially for mikeA.) Does he still have that ridiculous facial hair?

he was with the Yankees and almost certainly was forced to shave it, which gives me the impetus to root for him to grow it back.
