The A’s start the second (mathematically) half of the season in the OC, against an of Anaheim team that, has been hanging around .500, and recently got back Justin Upton and Andrelton Simmons. Their pitching is not very good (a little worse than ours) but they should not be underestimated.
Game 1 features Griffin Canning vs. Tanner Anderson, which is (are?) a lot of last names.

Pretty athletic play there by Semien to escape impalement.
Griffin vs Tanner is truly the matchup 2019 deserves.
this harvard experiment is not working out
Is Ryan Fitzpatrick available?
Well that’s an ugly score to wake up to.
Bonjour!
See you Jimmy!
(off to Glasgow today)
USA up 1-0 at half on a goal which probably should’ve been stopped. Besides that France seemed pretty solid. I wonder though if they’ll be able to withstand the US pressure while putting more players forward in pursuit of the equalizer.
Oly Oly oh!
Fiers using the whole ballpark tonight.
Oly Oly Ogain!
I want to see a pitcher point to the ground and yell at satan after a home run
or blame god for a error, or badly pitched game
Stevie Johnson
how do you people do that
Satan.
If the angels have to score, please let it be trout or ohtani solo home runs.
i am still mad that kendrys morales had mark canha’s at bats
What are all the weird lights in the cahna highlight video that people are waving?
I didn’t see the clip but there’s a social media-coordinated thing folks do in the Anaheim ballpark and elsewhere where they all light up their phones and wave them at the same time.
It seems like a weird thing to do when your pitcher gets rocked for a HR
This London game is on a less than 1 inning per hour pace.
sounds right for one innings. Maybe a little short
First 4 1/2 innings: 23 runs, 9 pitchers, 2:58.
They should have a tea break.
Need to keep the second 4 1/2 innings below 1:48 to avoid breaking the record for longest 9 inning game, set by guess which teams. One guess. Go ahead. Right.
Seven innings took 4 hours and 10 minutes.
(gets home from day outdoors, checks to see how MLB’s London experiment went)
Oh good heavens. I can think of a travel ban that, if Trump imposed it by tomorrow afternoon, everyone on FK would support.
I’m cool with leaving Buck and Smoltz over there too.
They barely avoided it. The game finished in 4:42.
LOL
clearly
This vince explanation of Cahna’s value is so tortured.
I like how ray and glenn were crowing about olson OPS in the last 30 games when it is lower than trouts season OPS
why was kendrys again?
or why does Grossman exist?
I am deeply perplexed about him being here over Martini. Yes, he is nominally a switch hitter, but he can’t hit lefties at all and he is much worse against righties.
grossman is a much better defender than martini, I am not sure martini would hit any better.
why would you swing at that pitch with the basesload and one strike?
because you have a 600 OPS and aren’t good at deciding which pitch to swing at?
there were 6 3 ball counts in a row prior to that at bat
I agree it was bad.
all he has to do is wait!
is it me, or is Upton terrible in left field?
was that the meatball that Gameday said it was?
to chapman? yeah, the meatiest
a good route and thats an out
Are the pitching changes sponsored by PGE because they start fires?
I’ll be here all week, don’t forget to tip your waitresses.
Hey Slinger!
it it me or are these townsend interruptions really grating?
its not you.
They are particularly pointless because his chosen subject is too often something Ken and Vince have already talked about. He could expand on something they were discussing but he would have to be listening to the broadcast to be able to do that.
that’s a double right?
don’t walk the guy i n front of trout
aw, I just realized this is anderson v cahill now
As much as we bitch about the A’s (lack of) pitching moves from the last off-season, they did well in bringing back Anderson while letting Cahill and Jackson walk.
In that same vein, Anderson missing any time with whatever now may be wrong with his hand would be rather suboptimal.
Townie saying he had no idea that something happened with Bretts hand. Why is he on the air?
I don’t know. he has followed the A’s to every stop since he was hired off the sexual harassment scrap heap
whats the sexual harassment comment in reference to?
wasn’t he one of the dudes fired from KNBR for being sexist?
Why do you listen to him?
I was listening to Ken do the final scores… then Townsend interrupted with the urgent news that he didn’t know anything and that Chrismas in June is genius.
They are awful.
I hope Piscotty’s injury isn’t terrible, of course, but honestly losing him for a few weeks wouldn’t particularly hurt the team at this point and might provide the reset he needs for the last couple months of the season.
sad to say, yes.
Does Sky bolt come bask or do we see the debut of baretto?
Refresh the thread faster, Aces.
As always, MLB blackout rules are crap and I an paying for a product I only get to use 80% of because of it.
Same thoughts as Soaker above- who gets the call in that case? Im hoping it is time to get Barreto up.
The Aviators just pinch-hit for Barreto,
3 hours down 15
The Aviators have played 13 home games in June, and at least one team has scored double-digit runs in 8 of them.
Aviators wins:
19-9 vs. Round Rock
17-7 vs. San Antonio
11-10 vs. Sacramento
15-6 vs. Sacramento
Aviators losses:
11-5 vs. Round Rock
26-11 vs. Round Rock (7 runs more than NYY-BOS today)
12-7 vs. Sacramento
20-9 vs. Reno (tonight)
Just something to consider when you’re looking at Barreto’s .937 OPS and wondering why he hasn’t been called up yet.
bring some balls with you franklin
It’s actually partly (in addition to the altitude/park) that AAA switched to using major league balls this year. Homers are way up (over 50%) in all of AAA.
In the PCL from 0.94 HR/game for each team to 1.43.
In the IL from 0.80 to 1.27.
The PCL has always been an all-offense league and it’s gotten sort of insane this year. When you sort the team stats, the Aviators’ offense is mid-pack in home runs but at or near the top in just about all other categories (#1 AVG and OBP, #2 SLG and OPS). On the pitching side it’s the opposite though as they are #3 in HR allowed but in the middle everywhere else (ERA, total hits allowed, WHIP).
The A’s deal with Howard Hughes is only for 2019-2020 which I take as a probationary period. Nice new facilities and geographical convenience aside, they have to figure out whether they can fairly evaluate their players there. The other factor is whether Oakland’s management and administration gets along with their counterparts in Las Vegas. If they are going to be anywhere geographically sensible in the PCL I think they have to accept the crazy offensive stats; the alternative is Nashville. The A’s aren’t going to Fresno except at gunpoint; they’ve had a couple opportunities and passed them up both times. So unless the managements are incompatible I expect a long-term stay in Vegas.
I know he is a good hitter, but ohtani looks more baily-outy than Khris Davis
Barreto starting at 2B.
One of two players that didn’t have a hit (Cahna, the other, had three walks)
He did have what could have been an infield hit called an error, which was an important part of the eighth inning rally. Value added.
Though the vision is decidedly unpretty, when was Semien’s last day off? I’m not sure he’s even had one.
I think it was last season when his wife had a baby.
Yesterday.
Radio on Sunday suggested this was finally going to be his big shot to prove himself at the major league level. About time.
Ramon needs to take another 300 fly balls
Chaptain Fanrastic!
Embargoing the news of the all star reserves like it’s a military operation is silly.
I’m glad Chapman got the nod over
Shea HillenbrandHunter Dozier and Gio Urshela.I really really don’t want to care about all star snubs, but come the fuck on
Apparently Trout was looking for something else.
I wanted to make a comment about Trout but it would be stupid to say what I’m thinking until the A’s go into their postgame handshake lineup formation.
I’m eagerly awaiting this hot take.
There’s no hot take; the stats are there for anyone to look at. I just felt like I was going to have to extract my foot from my throat about 45 minutes from now.
Seems a bit safer now.
Im also gonna claim this is all the Barreto impact.
Speaking of stats that could spawn hot takes: we are 32-34 when Khris Davis starts, about to be 14-5 when he doesn’t.
If the lineup comes around so Chapman gets an AB in the 9th inning he could launch Vince into orbit by trying to bunt for a base hit. It would be too much of a violation of the Unwritten Rules for him to do it though.
Ken, who has become possibly worrisomely a bit error-prone, said Chapman’s “three-base double” solidified a great afternoon.
HBD FSU.
if this is true, i second
Thanks! Another (fiscal) year older and deeper in debt.
Brooks earns the Casilla Medal of Achievement for surviving through the month of June.
The Croix de Casilla.
what is his expiration? Trienen?
I would think the Schlitz guy goes first. Then if a starter gets healthy it is a coin flip between him and the other Anderson.
That sounds right. Though I would expect Brooks to still survive because Anderson has options, and he doesn’t.
I stand corrected.
Same. And Im not heartbroken about it.
Whoa Tyler Skaggs?
Damn. That’s sad.
Albert Pujols was also a teammate of Darryl Kile when he was found dead in the team hotel.
colonel mustard, in the bathroom, with a pujol.
Damn. He just pitched Saturday.
Sequence of events surrounding his death as reported in the LA Times. Yes fentanyl was part of it.
Transactions page shows Beau Taylor optioned. I guess they are activating Chris Herrmann.
I’m glad he at least got to trot around the bases a couple of times.
It’s been rumored for a while but the A’s officially signed switch hitting 16 year old SS Robert Puason for ~5 million. Ranked by most publications as the #2 prospect in this year’s IFA class.
So, tanks in the streets of DC, closing National Airport, VP Pence changes plans to stay in town. I has concerns.
I was thinking about the West Wing episode where the VP plans a sneaky trip to New Hampshire just in case the President’s secret health problems leave the nomination open and the President flips out.
this seems wrong
That was a super exciting game! Dramatic stop of penalty kick. Then things seemed to get nasty. As best I could tell, watching on phone without sound while working.
Ingerlund missing penalties is like the A’s losing generational talent … painful despite the inevitability.
