Chris Bassitt does not look like the answer to our pitching woes, but has kept Texas off the board through 3 innings, thanks in part to some good fielding from Jurickson Profar(?!) Meanwhile, the A’s have scored twice off of Mike Minor.
T: Frankie Montas vs. Lance Lynn
W: Aaron Brooks vs. Drew Smyly

we are still pretending brooks is a thing?
If someone had made me play the Inside the NBA “Who He Play For?” game with the Rangers pitchers for this series, I probably would have gone 0 for 3.
We faced Smyly 10 days ago. Not saying I would have gotten it right either.
Well I definitely wouldn’t have gotten Kyle Dowdy.
So the hound has had 4.2 serviceable innings against a bad team.
He’s our Ace now, isn’t he?
Khris Davis is hitting .247
That was a very good catch.
Wait, Trivino is injured? Crap.
just gonna get two out of dull?
@GM, because we can afford to play down a man in the bullpen with these studs..
Play Pinder more
Starting at 2B tonight.
Now if we could just get Canha (1.250 OPS in his 20 PAs against RHPs so far) in for Morales.
Career tOPS+ 103 v rhp
Management’s insistence that he is a guy who needs to be on the short end of a platoon remains inexplicable.
I can see why they might not believe in Canha as a real every day player.
I can’t see why they would believe in Kendrys though.
He may not be an everyday player. But if he isn’t, it’s not because he can’t hit righties.
725 PA v rhp, 447 v LHP tOPS+ 95
so, why was kendrys?
Now we’re talking.
The final out of the Angels’ 14-inning loss last night was made by pinch hitter Trevor Cahill.
white privilege. 4th amendment is completely eroded for most things, but chalking tires? NOPE UNREASONABLE!
That will get appealed to (and probably overturned by) supreme court, won’t it?
(Or, as the article said, become irrelevant now that there are other cheap ways of tracking)
Assuming it doesn’t get reversed en banc (i.e. by the whole sixth circuit instead of just this panel), I’m sure there will be cert petition. The safest bet is always that cert gets denied, but SCOTUS does have a taste for hearing fourth amendment cases and the sheer weight of the amicus briefs from every city in the country urging reversal could have an effect.
For tea leaf reading, it’s possibly notable that the author of the opinion is an Obama appointee, but she was joined by GWB appointee who often appears on lists of potential Trump SCOTUS picks. (The third member of the panel is a 96-year-old Carter appointee.)
I don’t think thise things are cheap. you would have to have a camera with software, that software is going to be a fuck ton more expensive than a metal pole with holder on the end
bah. autochalk pays for itself.
$121,000 / $60 = bout 2000 tickets
and they scan much faster that manual.
that offends me on so many levels.
but that is the cost of the machine. it is still staffed, likely has updates every few years that will cost a bundle.
all around gross
c.f. multiple dead red light cams lacking hard/software support. So much easier to posture for safety than to actually do the work to implement.
true
How exactly is someone simply marking a stationary vehicle a search?
The idea seems to be that touching someone’s property in an attempt to “gather information” automatically amounts to a search.
Hard to make a distinction between that and being able to look through the window. Hell, they can just start marking the street itself near the tires.
what worked for me was the analogy of attaching a GPS to see where someone went and attaching chalk to see where someone went.
Maybe they were confusing it with the can of paint with a small hole.
How about the watch under the wheel, to see when they leave?
Hmm, a watch under the wheel is a good one. We’re not touching the car, the car is touching our thing.
KITTYCAT!
i hate white people so much
Leafs-Bruins Game 7 is very entertaining so far.
Fack Bahston.
I’ll be streaming the Sharks from the Coliseum.
Kaval is on the radio talking Roman ruins again.
such a dumb rich guy idea
In a battle of one run shots I like our chances.
this is sub optimal
At some point not that long ago Lance Lynn was good, right?
qualifying offer last year, no?
are we buying phegley?
I’m buying Phegley. There’s like 2-4 legit strong hitting catchers; the rest of the markert is catch-as-catch-can, so to speak. You get a guy going well for 2-3 months that’s value.
Not a believer. Phegley’s issue has always been his abysmal eye – I don’t see any evidence that’s changed this year with his one walk drawn.
I sort of agree with both previous responses.
As lc says, there’s no reason to believe that Phegley has suddenly turned into a good hitter. His good start (.263/.288/.491) still involves a bad OBP but a great slugging percentage that will probably regress, either just based on the usual luck, or as the toll of being the regular catcher saps his strength a bit.
As FSU says, the offensive bar for catchers is pretty low, so even as Phegley regresses he still could end up being average for the position.
The problem with Phegley is that even in the best-case scenario, his bat isn’t going to make up for his bad catching.
He doesn’t block balls well, he hasn’t controlled the running game this season at least, and he’s a well below average pitch-framer, according to baseball prospectus.
The only thing keeping him on the field right now is that Hundley is worse than him at everything.
On the topic of framing, BP has the Rangers’ Isaiah Kiner-Falefa at an astonishing -2.8 framing runs already in part-time duty (Jeff Mathis is at 0.3 framing runs in about the same number of chances).
Chapman has become extremely difficult to get out.
Currently 4th best BB/K in MLB
Seven walks in the last three games for Chapman.
Sharks!!
Playoff hockey is emotionally draining.
Holy shit!
I walked into theTreehouse Sharks down 3-0 looking stone dead. I walked out of the Treehouse heading to OT 4-4. And home for the win! Holy shit! Amazing comeback, best in Sharks history and then some.
I am still not entirely sure of the A’s result.
ETA: We won!
500 baby!
Holy shit. They won?! Last I looked they were down 2 – 0 and figured it was the Sharks, so meh. The fact that it got worse and they still pulled it out? Man, that’s got to be a gut punch for the Knight’s die hard fan.
That’s got to be the worst feeling.
I know it is off the glove, but I still feel all of these should be called Cansecos.
Southampton-Watford ended in a 1-1 draw with the goals scored 8 seconds after kick-off and 25 seconds before the final whistle. I’m guessing that’s the longest interval between goals in a single game.
I love Slusser.
Wiping standing or sitting, WHO DO YOU GOT?
Pretty cheap
So essentially the cost of Rodney and that’s if Gio gets all his performance incentives.
I keep wondering what else they could’ve gotten with Rodney, Estrada, and Grossman’s salaries, and the evidence is becoming clear that it may have been something actually worthwhile.
Profar’s particular version of Sax-Knoblauch Syndrome is very strange.
Semien is a star.
de goof
Jack cust territory dallas? ok
That was unexpected.
Fosse hates Joe West.
Something something typical Profar at bat. He kinda is the anti Jed.
91 mph right down the pipe. That’ll happen.
That stretch the starters had to start the season was the most amazing and unlikely event I’ve ever experienced in baseball or life.
Turns out that was just the result of playing two last-place teams.
Not sure about letting Brooks face the lineup a third time.
But what do I know.
two times?
Chapman > Trout
Time for Jesse Chavez to think about maybe getting into coaching or something.
Maybe his wife can get him into the Longshoreman’s union.
He did pretty well after I slagged him. That odd shift on Profar screwed him.
Six A’s runs please
Walking Jeff Mathis with a one-run lead is a firing offense.
Terrible
(Speaking of terrible)
What happened on the Hundley CS earlier? Busted hit and run?
Yes
Soria isn’t quite at JJ levels, but it’s pretty damn close.
Get off the field, skip.
How sweep it is.
Play Pinder always
PIndEr
Next: Vlad Jr.
Lucky him getting to debut against Fiers.
Smart of them to ease him in against AAAA pitching.
We’re scheduled to start two of the three guys Toronto just beat, plus the Hound. Honestly I’ll be a little disappointed if Vlad Jr doesn’t hit a titanic moonshot at some point.
I was pounding the steering wheel much of the afternoon but it worked out OK. Currently inhaling New Ballpark Smell at Las Vegas Ballpark. 93 degrees as I arrived, zero wind. Plenty of Tenaya Creek brews on tap, though pricier than the Coliseum at $12.
There are a lot of visual similarities between this place and Reno. It’s about 1500 feet lower but I bet it plays as a launching pad too. The Chihuahuas have done most of the launching tonight, mostly against Blackburn.
Let’s get some scouting reports! Is Murphy the next Pudge Rodriguez, or what?
Not sure how much I can say based on one not very good game except that Barreto has looked as lost at the plate as his stats would suggest.
5 HR in the first 2 innings tonight. Neuse and Barreto back to back, both opposite field.
Summing up my main impression from the two nights: regardless of how much of a launching pad the park may be, I didn’t see any hint of a hidden gem lurking on the Aviators pitching staff.
I turned on the radio at 355 expecting pregame for vlads first game. it was horrifying to hear larry elder. A caller warned that sanders would chose Illan omar or rashida talib to be vice president. Putting the crazy aside, that they are ineligible, Do we sound like that? I mean I have heard non conspiracy people guess trump will suspend elections, start war in iran, start jailing enemies, is that the same thing?
The difference is Trump actually does say and do things that make the police state stuff sound at least somewhat plausible. No national Democrat ever says stuff to make you think shariah law or seizing everybody’s guns might happen.
also when I tunred to 910, trump was on and for a second i couldn’t tell if it was chris townsend or not.
Well, Kyler Murray is getting paid.
Railbirds: best card of the year BY FAR at Golden Gate Fields. They loaded up all of their stakes races into this one weekend (and are giving away A’s colored hats to fans). Tomotrow also happens to be mandatory payout for the rolling pick-6 jackpot, races 8-13. I wont be there but will absolutely be playing a Pick 6 ticket, strong value play.
If you want to share your picks, I know of an eager audience (or does that eat into your winnings?)
Yeah in this instance that would diminish my returns a lot, like having someone else play the same set of lottery numbers. Different for single races, large pools a la the Triple Crown races.
Fair enough .. you can buy me a beer if you win instead.
Hah, as it turns out a single ticket hit the Pick-6 today, including three horses who won at 18-1 or longer. Pays $383K, so no carryover for tomorrow, and thus no value.
I’ll let the syndicate know if I bet any of the afternoon stakes. Though, fair warning, I’m on a cold streak lately.
I’ll buy you a beer then!
