An exciting, or maybe not, Rivalry Saturday of mediocre FKing football is almost upon us.
For some reason the 135th edition of that excuse for drunken debauchery is being played at Fenway Park rather than Harvard Stadium. I didn’t know a betting line existed for that one, but Vegas Insider currently shows Harvard -4.5 with O/U at 56.5.
It’s the 50th anniversary of one of the most famous games in that series, a 29-29 tie which happened when Harvard scored 16 points in the final 42 seconds of the game. There was a documentary made about that game for the 40th anniversary (“Harvard Beats Yale 29-29”), and for beach reading at some point later this winter I have sitting here a new book by George Howe Colt, The Game: Harvard, Yale, and America in 1968.
The Bears haven’t touched The Axe since 2009 and it’s about time they did. Both teams are 6-4. Even a limping Bryce Love is probably better than any skill position player on Cal’s offense. The Cardinal are a 2.5-point favorite with the O/U at a low 45. I could see the final score of this game being 4-2. Nevertheless, I’m putting my 3-0 record in Cal games this season on the line and heading to Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening. Go Bears!
