Losing hurts, as it always does, but I’m still watching, and maybe you are too.

Rooting interest (who I want to win)
Milwaukee – Good friend in Wisconsin, who has had a rough last few years, is a big fan. Would love to see them win for his (and his kid’s) sake. And who doesn’t love brewers? Marred only by a few ex-Royals.
Cleveland – Offensive logo, but still least offensive AL team.
LA – Would annoy Giants fans.
Colorado – Likeable state and franchise, I guess. But don’t really deserve a title.
NY – Sorry.
Atlanta – Nothing specific against the current bunch, but just never liked this franchise. Acuna is supposed to be good.
Houston – Can’t root for a division rival.
Boston – Except (maybe) against Boston.
Mine:
Colorado: Friend is Rockies fan, love their ballpark, love the purple, also CarGo.
Milwaukee: I too love brewers. Also brian.only’s city/team.
Atlanta: Coaches include Wash, Walt Weiss, and Sal Fasano!
Houston: I just really like their roster
NY: Sorry
Cleveland: Same
LA: Same
Boston: Remember when they always failed? Man that was a pretty fucking great century.
I almost never root for the NL team in the World Series but I could see it this year.
I probably underrated Atlanta. They also have Kurt Suzuki and (though sort of retired already) Brandon McCarthy.
Mine:
Colorado: Many friends & family in CO, love their ballpark
Milwaukee: Going to games at Miller park is a fun road trip, I just wish there weren’t Packers fans
Cleveland: Though the city got its championship with the Cavs, they’ve been hurt by baseball for a long time
Boston: I hate their fans, I love their fans, and my grandsons may grow up being them so I’m softening now
LA: Ms s’ nephews are big fans, and a win would be special for them
NY: Love the city, not the team
Atlanta: Just boo
Houston: Lived there, no thanks
The Rockies are run by cultist Christian nuts.
Hmm, did not know that.
My preferred teams went 1-3. Now go Brewers.
1) Breweres, yes marred by only one ex royal, I don’t mind soria and cain
2-7 Some mix of I don’t really care.
atlanta is pretty sympatheticas a team as with cleveland because they are fun teams, both marred by racism and shitty field politics.
NYY near the top because it has some fun players and you need an evil empire to root against, so if they win you can hate them again.
colorado has the WORST announcers in the league. 35 out of 30. hard to root for that
Dodgers are kinda low in that group, mostly because of one friend from high school who is way too into it, way too invested (last year she wanted guriel suspended for life)
Houston, meh, don’t really care, don’t want them to win again, there aren’t any compelling stories
9 red sox. fuck them
Mine:
Houston: So many former Grizzlies
LA: I’m as shocked as anyone that I would put them up this high. But I guess being here starts to rub off
Milwaukee: Have a soft spot for them. And if they want to admit it or not, they are the historical Pilots.
Colorado: CarGo. Will make some of the old school grouches lose their minds.
Cleveland: A boss here is a big fan and he is a nice guy so why not.
Atlanta: Like Wash, hated the weird start times TBS did when I was a kid
Fireball hurtling towards earth
NY: Judge went to FSU
Fireball reaches earth-impacts right off the Pacific
Boston
I think the Astros will win.
I truly don’t care who does win, but my usual policy in these situations is to slightly prefer the Yankees for some mysterious reason I should probably explore in therapy.
Did you take a blow to the head as a child?
I’m currently re-evaluating everything I think about you.
I hate the Red Sox so much that I’ve developed a soft spot for the Yankees. Another factor in their favor is that when one of the 20 or so teams in the hard luck category breaks through before the A’s it increases the bitterness and what-could-have-beens.
That changes only when I have to listen to Vince broadcast games in NY.
That’s my excuse too.
The Yankees win – no big deal, they’re the bully who wins because they spend so much money.
The fking Dayton Moore/Ned Yost Royals win – infuriating.
Predictions (who I think will win)
Houston – Defending champs and best team in the best division.
Boston – 108 wins, but I agree with those who think they’re more very good than great. Tempted to predict they’ll lose to NY, but can’t quite do it.
Milwaukee – Best team in practice in the worse league. Not as good as NY, but more likely to get there.
NY – Sorry.
LA – Best team on paper in the worse league. Always underachieve.
Cleveland – Too tough a path.
Atlanta – Seems unlikely.
Colorado – Beat the Cubs, and gave Milwaukee a tough first game, but I’m still not impressed.
Hard to argue with that
This may well be the best novelty account on twitter.
Thanks, and go As.
Name sounds vaguely familiar
I thought that guy was dead.
Speaking of
that seems slow
Turns out Kaprielian’s a nephew? Cousin? of one of my clients. I don’t think they’re close so I wasn’t able to get any rehab progress info.
give them the assignment to find out
I should hope so.
Eddie Collins > Susan Collins
Hell, Tom Phil and colin all >>> Susan.
And FK Joe Manchin.
His vote was meaningless, so if it helps him be reelected I have a hard time being too mad.
He’s better than the other WV choice, and we can’t afford to lose that seat.
For me this outcome is too depressing to entertain realpolitic silver linings, at least today. Our country is fucked for decades to come. Bring on the giant meteor impact, gamma ray burst, grey goo or other eschatological relief.
I am hoping the out is impeachment for Kavanaugh. I don’t see the vote for it until 2024, though
Yep, the earliest is a theoretical 2020, but that may not net you enough of the Senate. But then they may never have enough of the Senate to get rid of him.
No chance. But they should still subpoena the documents that weren’t turned over and everything related to the FBI investigation. Get it all on the record.
As far as I can tell, they don’t enjoy any special position in avoiding arrest, etc. So in theory, could he not be tried for perjury (assuming those docs show it)? At which case, sure, keep him on the bench, but good luck getting him to any position to vote for anything while he serves out his time?
I guess. But this is what it means to be a big tent party. If he were the 50th vote I’d be pissed (aka Lieberman and the public option), but on this he and I are ok.
Manchin may need to take bad positions on climate change or guns to get re-elected, but his votes to confirm Sessions and Kavanaugh are because he is a sniveling shithead.
(Also Senators do not always vote independently from each other, so his vote was not necessarily meaningless.)
Yeah, I think Manchin was dying to vote for this guy, but just didn’t want to catch hell for it. I also think he was going to be reelected regardless.
I agree with both of you that he wanted to, but I suspect the coordination was because he wanted to make sure he was NOT the decisive vote. I never got the sense Flake would be a “no” and I don’t think Collins was likely either.
For some perspective, I would also like the guy to win in Tennessee who said he would vote for Kavanaugh.
Definitely. The only thing that matters at this point is who controls the senate floor and the committee gavels. As long as they wouldn’t force Schumer or whoever is chairing Judiciary to bring up Trump’s nominees (especially if god forbid he gets another Supreme Court vacancy), then they can take whatever positions they want.
Shameful take. I’d have more respect if she just admitted she doesn’t care.
SuSlu says BoMel extension could be announced next week.
Thanks, and go As.
“Bob is one of the best in the game and he’s perfect for us,” Beane said. “The idea is he’s here for a long time and for the rest of his career.”
Had to drive across town, was horrified to find Chris Berman buffoonishly chortling in lieu of play-by-play on the NLDS series.
Puig is one weird dude.
Hot Kyler Murray action on channel 2.
His team isn’t good enough for him. He should quit.
He’s awfully good at football.
Yeah that was amazing. Also peak Gus Johnson.
That was Gus? Pretty restrained by his standards.
Man United is terrible and I am here for it.
Paul Pogba, center-half.
Jose’s off his FKing trolley.
Pretty nifty backheel one-two there for the equalizer.
check in at 89th minute
“never in doubt”
-pete shelly i imagine
They were lucky not to be down 3-0 at half. Ref missed an obvious handball penalty. Still, an impressive fight back.
Obviously someone showed them this comment in the dressing room at halftime.
Great game.
Man I would feel bad for David Price if he wore a different uniform.
and if he hadn’t been such a dick to Eck.
Pretty forgettable season for a team as talented as Cleveland.
It was a pretty weak division overall, so it’s not terribly surprising though.
That’s what I mean. Not only were they non-competitive in the playoffs, their being in the playoffs was about as meaningless as it gets considering their so-so record in an awful division. A team with Lindor, Ramirez, Kluber et al. shouldn’t be that mediocre.
Zooks!
Honestly none of the lower seed teams in these Division Series looks very good, except NY. Pretty boring DS round thus far. Could be somewhat redeemed by a game 5 in Boston that went 21 innings and left the winner depleted.
Not sure if I feel better or worse about Severino getting knocked around tonight.
i think it was someone on the espn2 statcast broadcast who said boone picked severino because the a’ performed poorly against 95+, fwiw
yesterday i caught some of the braves dodgers on the radio.
I assume ESPN is out of money and Chris berman was doing the games for free. that was the worst play by play I have ever encountered, and I used to regularly listen to the bauncast
Sutcliffe, his partner, is also in the running for worst in the business. In addition to being morons with anti-talent for radio broadcasting, they both seem to be appalling human beings. Really a remarkable broadcast.
The Yankees looking this bad actually makes me madder.
LOL at the woman with the baby blocking Giuliani’s view.
Eat it, Rudy
You think Rudy won’t eat a baby?
won’t/hasn’t/etc
Thanks, and go As.
FK the Yankees
The bottom 5 – 10 Umps in the majors as voted on by the Players/Coaches anonymously each year, should be swapped with the top 5 – 10 umps in AAA who are likewise voted as the best by those players/coaches.
I read somewhere today that since Angel Hernandez filed a discrimination claim awhile back he’s gotten ASG or playoff assignments every year.
of moderate interest
WORTH IT.
Thanks, and go As.
Epic launch angle
Would you take a buy low flier on him?
I would. Not sure how low is low, but we have seen more than one pitcher come back after a few years in the wilderness.
Sure, as long as that doesn’t mean we act like we have our ace back and don’t need to make any other moves to improve the rotation.
Absolutely. It’s just 1 season but his home/away splits were nutty
Thanks, and go As.
They fucked with what he was doing requiring a certain amount of breaking stuff. I’d buy low on them with the expectation that he’d be a #5 guy. If the price is set higher than that, pass.
Dustin Fowler?
Wow
With acrimony, apparently.
They must be fairly certain about being able to buy their own station before next season. Unfortunately the first call letters I thought of are unavailable.
This is cool. They should do it for the whole world.
