Hey, whaddya gonna do, nice Vanderbilt boy, eh? Didn’t want to get mixed up in the Family business, huh? Now you wanna gun down a general manager. Why? Because he traded ya in the face a little bit? Hah? What do you think this is Oakland, where you shoot ’em a mile away from the league lead? You’ve gotta get up close like this and – bada-BING! – you fan their brains all over your nice pinstripe suit. C’mere…You’re taking this very personal. Billy, this is business and this man is taking it very, very personal.

1.Marcus Semien(SS)
2.Matt Joyce(LF)
3.Jed Lowrie(2B)
4.Khris Davis(DH)
5.Matt Olson(1B)
6.Matt Chapman(3B)
7.Jonathan Lucroy(C)

9.Dustin Fowler(CF)
This is the business we’ve chosen.
Two grounders and a K. Attaboy, Kendall.
Except…
Seems OK!
Bad pitch, Sonny.
x2
Leave the gun, take the cannoli.
I want someone good, and i mean very good, to groove this fastball. I don’t want my former teammates coming out of that batter’s box with just their dick in their hands.
They don’t love you like we loved you, Sonny.
Yay Fowler!
Fowler gets his first hit!
The team with the green hats is clearly better than the one in the stripes.
/person who has only seen these 3.5 innings of baseball all season
You break your pitching coach’s heart!
This is certainly the best Graveman has looked all season. Giancarlo Stanton’s bats are not thrilled with him.
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Oh, Kendall.
The batting practice fastball wasn’t the best choice in that spot.
Glen keeps pronouncing Gleyber as Glieber, which can’t be right because John Sterling’s homerun call is “It’s Gleyber Day! The Gleyber of the Month!”
Counterpoint: literally because of John Sterling’s shit-ass home run call, it is now pronounced Glieber. Similarly, because of John Sterling’s shit-ass home run call, Giancarlo Stanton’s name is now pronounced Steve Billings.
Gavin is buying ads on the A’s internet stream. Truly leaving no stone unturned in the search for votes.
You guys aren’t really going to vote him in, are you? Please say no. OTOH Adam Laxalt has a decent chance on this side of the line and he’s to “NRA! NRA!” what Rudy is to “9-11! 9-11!”
Probably, yeah.
I am not a fan. But he has virtually no opposition. Chiang?
It’s interesting that the ad Gavin is running is going directly at the no-name Republican (John Cox?). I wouldn’t be surprised if he is trying to elevate Cox’s profile to get him into the final round where he will get destroyed.
Ooh, that’s an interesting theory. Villarigosa has real campaign money so knocking him out in the primary makes a lot of sense.
Called it
Chaing?
Jane kim handed me a flyer that says “Delanie Easton” for governor. I don’t know who that is either.
The idea that R’s will turn out to vote in a hopeless governor’s race seems like a stretch.
Open primaries fking up those Socal House races is a bigger worry.
I really hope Newsom loses the primary. I really can’t stand him.
Whatever happened to care not cash?
I like Gavin as governor. One of those politicians I like better at greater remove than, say, as a mayor. I don’t like Delaine Eastin and don’t know much about Villarigosa, of the major contenders.
So far the ad that amuses me the most is Dianne Feinstein claiming she’s in touch with the youth of today.
Absurd
she did an inning and a half on the radio in vince’s absence
That’s really cool. Korach working solo otherwise?
yes. Daughter graduating from k state
What, he couldn’t get from Manhattan to the Bronx to do his job?
Heh heh.
Of course Vince’s daughter would go to K-State.
I turned the game on during the top of the fourth, heard the two of them sans Vince and thought I’d stumbled into a game-calling oasis.
I feel I’ve wasted my life by not listening to Korach and SuSlu call a game together.
Fosse thinks we should “continue to try to score more runs.”
Jed takes his advice.
Thank you for the out, Boone.
OK Trevino, this is a great chance to show you’re for real.
Not so much
ken was convinced he struck out judge
Interesting. I didn’t think so, but now I can’t remember that pitch at all.
Is Lucroy having issues framing or is the umpire giving the typical Yankee strike zone. I’m listening to Ken and using Gameday and it seems like there’s 2 or 3 pitches in the Gardner and Judge at bats that should’ve been strikes
None of the Judge balls were close imo. Ball 4 to Gardner maybe.
I’m not sure it’s either, the balls just below the zone are being called consistently as best I can tell.
Matt!
The A’s should score again.
/Fosse analysis
Fowler got around the bases in a hurry.
I’m surprised Boone didn’t challenge that Canha play at second. You can’t take ’em with you.
.500!
FK yeah!
Maybe we’ll keep coming up for occasional breaths of .500 air right on through the summer.
Nah, I’m calling Friday, May 11/Game 38 as the day. We’ll see you in Tokyo!
I don’t know. The stretch of schedule running from the Tampa series at the end of this month through the Giants series wrapped around the All Star break is extremely soft. I think we’ll get back there for a minute.
This is a simply wonderful thread to come back to.
“Percy Brownman.”
left handed percy brownman
Can he play better defense than Semien? I think we should look into this.
Cool long recap of the story of Seals Stadium in SF.
“The Double Play (still there at 16th+Bryant) was a favorite of ballplayers who liked to drink, and that basically meant all of them,”
I started to think it’s a good thing we took advantage of the one bad pitcher we are likely to see on this trip, and then I got sad that that the bad pitcher is Sonny.
Milo, a 4th grader just guest played on a 6th grade soccer team. his preschool friend goes to brandis (in 4th) and their 6th needed players. As it was a 6th grade team of a jewish school, talk with the parents quickly got around to bar/bat mitzvahs, Apparently there is a schedule at this school for that and you have to sign up over three years in advance. Those kids are so over extended
Krhushed!
That was such a great inning, relentless patience.
I know the numbers say he’s not bad but I don’t trust Triggs at all.
He’s skating on an ice-covered pond in Phoenix in July.
I hope they get to a point where they have five other healthy and reasonably effective starters, because Triggs would be better off in the bullpen and this bullpen would look a lot better with him in it. I’d think that rotation would be Graveman, Manaea, Mengden, Cahill and Blackburn, assuming Anderson breaks or is just terrible.
Why would you trust Blackburn more than Triggs?
Boy have I seen a lot of lost leads at Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park over the 50 years.
It’s a 2018 A’s game, literally no lead for either team involved can possibly be considered safe. Any inning with no runs scored is an aberration.
Given the state of the A’s bullpen, today’s game is starting to smell like this train wreck.
An 8 man bullpen is pointless if half of it is trash
I was hoping the crash happened before hatcher entered the game
so I just saw the replay on YES. it did look like the glove hit the jersey. its really too bad.
NBCS showed a couple that looked like that, but then one from the 1B side where it looked like he missed. Maybe the A’s deserved to lose anyway, but that reversal was some bullshit.
Last angle here:
It didn’t turn into that 22-9 embarrassment, but I had the end result right. Gina Haspel enjoyed those last few innings much more than I did.
*Mark Davis books Raiders to play a home game in Shanghai*
My amateur Internet meteorology tells me they might be able to play today but they would have to wait at least 3 or 4 hours.
make up game sept 17 both have an off day, NYY at home, A’s finishing a bal/tb road trip
12:45 start time announced.
boo. I wanted to avoid severino
This is why, when I go to a road series, I strongly prefer staying the extra night in the hotel and flying out the next morning. A 7:30 flight tonight out of LaGuardia would have seemed to leave plenty of time, but now you’re looking at bailing out around the 6th inning to get to the airport. The morning flight allows for all the rain delays and extra innings you could possibly get.
Anderson against Judge and stanton?
Cool
walk the lefty to get to stanton with the basesloaded
Seems pretty clear now why the Yankees wanted to play today.
Any chance he makes it out of the first?
The game’s underway, somebody wake up Brett Anderson
Brett Anderson: keeping Wilmer Font in the major leagues.
Having turned on the TV, pink and dark green do not go well together
Fort knox gold, forest green, and pepto-bismol pink.
Also why are the hats a different shade of pink than the sleeves belts batting gloves etc?
I chose radio only for a reason
Brett has gotten a lot better at ducking shots hit back up the middle without hurting himself doing so.
suslu on the radio
John and Suzyn show some good taste in hating Casilla. “Fortunately, after today, he’s gone and he’s the Boston announcers’ problem.” (The complaint being slow pace.)
Not if we leave him in NY.
Boring game
Canada does not welcome American lunkheads.
never has been. they exclude a lot of people.
GWB had to get a waiver. Waivers are regularly given, but aren’t super easy.
I would have no problem not seeing him again even after the 10 days are up. He can’t even hit righties.
i am hoping for a new beau
alves definitely out. and neymar is still in doubt?
we’re 31 days out, gente. how are we (continental americans) supposed to stop germany??
It has to be Messi.
Please let it be Messi.
Thanks, and go As.
i just don’t think we can change his nationality in time.
the rabbit hole on pao facial fitness paid off in spades:
esprit de closed the window too soon… a better spokesperson would be jackie gleason?
PAO! right in the kisser.
Oops. I don’t recall another player being banned from an entire country.
Gave up two solo homers to lose it. Oddly only struck out two over eight innings (he had been putting up a 9.0 K/9).
I would be interested in an in-depth scouting report on what he is doing differently as a starter.
Am I wrong for getting too worked up about Jorge mateo’s slow start?
It’s not great. I’m willing to wait until the second half to panic though.
Not if you were excited about Mateo as a prospect in the first place.
Doubled and tripled today to bring his average above .200
CALL UP THE HOT HAND!
One thing Montas seems to be doing differently as a starter is throwing the occasional quick pitch. I like it.
Jonathan Gonzalez, the precocious holding midfielder from Santa Rosa who irreversibly switched allegiance to Mexico after the USA didn’t qualify for the World Cup….didn’t make the Mexico World Cup squad.
Bummer for him. Osorio never promised him a spot though, apparently. He’s still only 19, too so he could potentially play in the next 3 WCs anyway.
Thanks, and go As.
