that was a bad play by lucroy
It’s a Joe West game. Strap in.
Wait…that clown is still around?
Amazing, isn’t it?
It’s bizzare. He’s been terrible for decades.
In other words he has tenure.
I’d love to read his performance reports. Maybe my eyes are lying and his VORU is off the charts.
Yay for not FKing that play up.
Boo for already being down 2-0 to Keuchel.
deep to center glenn?
Well, shit.
LOL, that wasn’t even close.
It might be good that I’m blacked out for this game.
I wonder if smolinski is stretched out for 3 innings?
I am willing to give up the DH for this.
that explains it. a 2 person bench
Did Ken quit?
“But I was in Berkeley yesterday…”
1. WTF? And
2. Do the conditions of your release proscribe just 1 East Bay trip per week?
Saw the Descendents. SLF was gifted a printout of the set list by the sound guy.
Truth be told, I have baseball plans, tuesday, wednesday and thursday theis week and the most futurey of us all goes to his BFFs house on mondays to fortnight it up or some such nonsense, and he was the one pushing for games.
Yay baseball, I’m going again tomorrow for nurse appreciation night.
that’s not every night?
I’m thinking we’ll go tonight too. Do you know – anyone – if you can get single game tickets to the treehouse? All I can find is information on the monthly or season pass.
No single game Treehouse only tix. But anyone can enter the Treehouse, so you could buy the cheapest available ticket anywhere and still spend whole gamw up there
And Nurse and I will be around usual lot spot from maybe 530 to 615 or so, will look for you.
Yes, we figured that out last night. Pretty nice setup they have there, I like the standing areas outside and the loungers. Went pre-game and then for the end, fun crowd inside watching the Warriors close out the series. Sorry we missed you.
I overheard a guy say he parked in the BART lot and they weren’t charging, even on a night when the Warriors were playing. He said he’s done it a few games this year, and hasn’t seen them charging yet.
Yeah, I’ve been to three reasonably crowded games (Black Panther bobblehead, vs Bos, vs LAA on Sat) and BART lot was free thrice.
I didn’t see Brett’s first start but his stuff looks like it’s pretty done.
first start looked great. but from the first batter tonight he was lost
Felt like he lost feel for the breaking ball which left the rest of his stuff badly exposed.
alrighty then
Ray looking on the bright side thinking Hatcher has an opportunity here to get his ERA under 9.
And Font is going to get an opportunity to get his HR/9 with the A’s under 9!
Here in the FRS we’re excited to assess the kerning on his jersey.
Yes, I spotted you there. My sympathies. It’s too bad Keuchel gave up the hit to Semien.
all unearned so far
Well that’s bullshit.
Fortunately only 7,360 paid their way in to this one. That’s lower than any of the numbers in the Texas series earlier.
Nurse Upgrade likes Chad Pinder’s pants.
I noticed him drawing a cross in the did at first plate appearance, the touch it in all subsequent ABs
dirt not did
font is going well
He has to finish the game no matter how many pitches it takes. Regardless, he should be on a plane to Seoul in the morning so he can find another job.
And he can’t finish, and Bob brings in his only lefty in a 15-run game. If that doesn’t spell D-F-A nothing ever will.
why not casilla?
72 pitches total, i dunno how many before the ninth but i wasn’t necessarily expecting him to close this lost game.
Lazarito Watch: 1-5 with a ground-rule double and a game-tying sac fly in the 11th in his first proper game stateside in the Midwest League.
Presidents Bolton and Netanyahu are so close to that war with Iran they can taste it.
And on the second day, Lazarito homered.
Will he raise the franchise from the dead
He’ll need some help from Luzardo.
He just got #2.
Some very A’s catching by the Astros.
sslingers sighting
Thanks for not posting the screen grab!
That was a lucky ass catch.
We should’ve got more there
Just to elaborate we had McStupidhead completely on the ropes here and managed one friggin run. Situational (lack of) hitting.
i just tuned in to manaea getting blasted
What a meathead.
goddamit
That’s embarrassing.
that shot of him in the dugout with a towel made me feel sorry for him
What’s with the guy with the giant mitt in the diamond level?
Lest anyone have any incorrectly sanitized impression, a group of nurses near us (not mine) was just escorted out for drunkenness.
mmmmm… isopropyl.
I had a brat and a polish from the new sausage stand last night. They were sadly inferior to the old Saags product. Very disappointing.
If you had Cahill breaking before Anderson, collect your winnings. (Not to say Anderson isn’t also broken in some more fundamental way.)
Also, Fowler!
I did not, but my pick 3 is still alive.
I paid out too soon on this.
Some hot batting-out-of-order action by the Mets today.
It’s usually the bench coach’s responsibility, immediately before the exchange of lineups at home plate, to hold the card that’s handed to the umpire up next to the one posted on the wall in the dugout and make sure they match. Bob tends to pick somebody random to take out the lineup card, often a pitcher, and I’m not sure that player would always remember to check.
Sure, give away outs against Cole. Why not.
A’s have 7 SB, 7 CS on the season. WTF? There have been a couple times that the announcers have suggested that someone missed a sign, but I haven’t heard anything definitive.
Fangraphs BsR by team:
1. MIN 6.0
2. LAD 4.0
3. HOU 3.7
…
6. LAA 3.5
…
11. TEX 1.9
…
21. SEA -2.0
…
27. KCR -4.5
28. MIA -4.9
29. SDP -4.9
….
30. Oak -7.1 (and a CS today)
My god.
The crazy thing is, we don’t have a lot of guys with below-average speed. They are just being stupid and/or being coached stupidly.
20 layers of crap
I hadn’t realized how bad it was until I read the game notes last night. Really just terrible on both sides of the running game.
.500 already seems like a distant memory.
see you next year!
These comments will look silly after we sweep the Yankees this weekend.
we only need to take 2 out of 3.
500!
Best record in the bay area
glad they specified cell or i wouldn’t have known what kind of phone has texts.
glad they specified phone or i wouldn’t have known where people read texts.
glad they specified messages or i wouldn’t have known what texts are.
and if they’d just said “looking at his texts” they wouldn’t need to hyphenate better to avoid the misreading that he was in a cell (possibly jail?), looking at a phone, which had messages, but not the pictorial kind.
“looking at his texts.” So he has text books? What classes is he taking?
“looking at his text messages.” So he has messages in his text books? Are they part of the book or his own notes?
you don’t get to anything about books if you read the con… [wait for it] …text.
I’m very much enjoying my subscription to The Athletic, but I frequently wonder whether they have any editors.
I’m half tempted because now Robert Jonas is writing for the Quakes, but… nah
Thanks, and go As.
They launched a full soccer vertical today.
Yeah I saw. I’m still a cheap bastard though.
Thanks, and go As.
Ha! Even without publishing our final results we’ve been awarded the Gruber Prize!
Way to go! Measuring the infinite can’t be easy.
Also I have your cupholders.
Decidedly finite — Planck was designed to exhaust the available information in the primary CMB temperature map.
Can you bring them on the 29th? We’ll need them.
Most definitely. I was the victim of a tragic beer spill Monday for want of a cupholder.
The Gruber prize? Does it come with a John Phillips suit and $600 million in negotiable bearer bonds?
It does look like ptbnl’s share of the cash ought to be enough to pay for his Coliseum parking for the rest of the season.
Can I have $5?
The PIs have decided that the prize money will be used to support young scientists going to conferences to present the Planck results.
Great, but I hope the team members get a small cut. Or, at least set aside enough to get Stormy Daniels to appear at the celebration party.
Nope – nothing for the team.
Correction – the PIs will receive $125,000 each and the collaboration will receive the other $250,000.
However, in classic Planck style, the PIs have unilaterally decided on behalf of the collaboration that the collaboration’s share will be used to support young scientists going to conferences to present the Planck results.
“I could talk about industrialization and men’s fashion all day but I’m afraid the cosmos must intrude.”
Thanks FSU…Now I have to clean up all the coffee I just spit over my desk.
Now I have a LHC….Ho Ho Ho
Just another supervillain with a Yale affiliation.
“fucking coal Nazi police”
I still don’t understand people like that. Yeah, you’re racist, but are you so much so that you literally have to spend 2 hours out of your day just to see the cops show up to talk to these people? And the notion that anyone was going to jail over that was ludicrous. Meanwhile, some poor cop has to go out there and not be doing his actual job to deal with you.
Watching a little of today’s PGA event on the DVR, I’m reminded I need to find out why Chesson Hadley’s caddie has such good taste in headwear. Usually there’s some commercial sponsorship on there, as Hadley is wearing in that shot, but this guy always wears an A’s cap. The all-green road cap in this photo, but today he wore the home green and gold.
This guy. He’s from NC with no obvious reason to be an A’s fan.
He’s also this guy, seen here three years ago also wearing the road green A’s hat. In hilariously typical golf manner the article doesn’t bother to give his name.
There is absolutely no fucking way that is a real name, and yet, OF COURSE it’s a rich white guy who is a pro golfer.
Thanks, and go As.
The top 5 right now at the PGA includes guys named Webb, Charl, and Chesson, and Charles Howell III.
The creepiness runs deep in this gene pool.
Bad Reporter, spot on as ever.
As long as we’re comparing looks, DJTJ is sort of a factory-second Gavin.
Good point.
Tomorrow I’ll be brewing a new IPA recipe designed to use up the surplus Azaca and Bravo hops in my freezer – I give you Rock the AzBa
OK that pun wins you the Goober Prize.
I think we share it.
He said he is not aware of his duties as coach, but appeared excited.
Renato Nunez DFAd after slashing .167/.244/.278 in 41 plate appearances for the Rangers.
Rock Star!
