Old friend Ryon Healy is present and accounted for this time.
The balaclava is back.
So is Brett Anderson, or he will be tomorrow.
The A’s lead on a Lowrie solo shot off of the the king.

Triggs is so slooooooooow.
Looks like Graveman got rocked in AAA today.
Hanging slider to Cruz has predictable results.
to be fair, it looked like he got away with it 4 times previously.
Also, I have revised my assessment of the tv crew, Fire glenn NOW
The conference ran too long to get to the Twins game tonight, but dinner at the Surly Brewery made up for that disappointment.
CHEAPOS!!!!
May 1 the new entry in the sub .500 doomcast.
Only 3.5 games back in the wild card.
The Orioles’ presence may delay this by a week, but the 3 vs. the Astros followed immediately by an old-fashioned 10-game AL East Death March to New York, Boston and Toronto will definitely wrap things up for the season.
In my 2018 season replay I just concluded this Seattle series and can’t dispute this conclusion. Manaea has pitched very well even excluding the no-hitter but the rest of the rotation is Mengden, Triggs and desperation reclamation jobs Cahill and Anderson. Bob is also short-handed in the bullpen because a big chunk of those seats are occupied by Hatcher, Casilla and Font. Jed has a chance to finish second to Trout for AL MVP but aside from him and one hot streak for the team there’s not a heck of a lot happening at the plate either, though Canha has been a pleasant surprise since his call-up from Nashville.
If you want to pull an old game off MLB.tv that isn’t a no-hitter or something like that, Wednesday 5/2/2018 in this series at Safeco is pretty interesting.
The present reminds the future.
crap. there goes a couple of you off to buy maga hats…
“It would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the U.S. bid.”
Is it wrong to now root for Morocco & U.S. sanctions?
It’s too bad Dan Haren isn’t working for the A’s.
This always and forever.
Who is the A’s “pitching strategist” now?
Related question: can the A’s still be deemed to be among the forefront of teams using analytics for game strategy?
Vince
Is consistency a tactic or a strategy?
They’re no UNC.
Neat, thanks for that. So many of these stories start with “this one data-obsessed kid who wouldn’t stop pestering me until I gave him a key to the office now I don’t know how we ever got by without him.” It’s like Bill James meets Horatio Alger.
Steph. What a show.
Bob’s current ranking of his relievers, leaving out Coulombe, is reasonably:
1. Treinen
2. Dull
3. Petit
4. Trivino
5. Casilla
6. Hatcher
7. Font
That pretty much forces him to use Casilla at times other than mop-up situations in blowouts. SAD!
I might swap #2/#3, but that looks right.
And as much as I am not a fan of Casilla, the continued presence of the two below him is even more mystifying:
Hatcher – Not young. Unlike Casilla has never been good. Still kind of inexpensive, which could be an argument for keeping him around (we are cheap), or against it (not much dead money from dumping him).
Font – Young, can start or relieve, led the minors in K’s last year, blah blah blah. But so bad in the majors that he does not even seem to be useful for long relief, nor is it clear how he could ever figure things out while on a major league roster and become useful given those circumstances.
If they let Font pitch once or twice more in the majors, there’s a good chance they could Alcantara him to Nashville.
Raul has had a tough go
The NFL is disgusting.
I have to think we are going to see Dustin Fowler soon. Two more hits today, and he’s now batting .324. May as well get him up while he’s hot. All we have to lose is Jake Smolinski.
This headline/photo combination is so Onionesque that I can hardly believe it is real.
Nothing quite like breaking rule #1 of control safety.
How are you all celebrating Brett Anderson Day? I’m going to practice fumbling a few comebackers and then head to the bank to clean them out of $1s.
I hurt myself.
Lowrie’s ABs this season have just been uniformly excellent.
I was going to say that James Paxton is like a young Brett Anderson. But they are only 9 months apart in age!
That had inside the park home run written all over it.
I did miss that slider that we so rarely got to enjoy.
its like getting an ace in may
yeah, he hits dongs, but I am glad he is somewhere else getting ABs
shouldn’t the trainer go to the mound after that comebacker?
that inning was less successfull
Cahill to NY?
Straight up for Stanton.
Thanks, and go As.
I was thinking Céspedes.
Pretty embarrassing crowd in
OaklandSeattlethey have to compete with the sounders
Everyone stayed home to watch Rudy on Hannity.
If not for that Lowrie hit we would stand a good chance of being on the wrong side of history tonight. We still might see 21
Ks.
I hope smolinski’s roster spot depends on this at bat
Commissioner Manfred must be enjoying the pace of this one.
Pinder will be going for the perfect Golden Sombrero. 3 K’s on 9 pitches so far.
dammit Melvin
Sharks really pushing the action tonight, solid game so far.
Let him go for the record, Servais. FK it.
Jed!
Can’t overturn an Angel Hernandez call.
Didn’t expect this to turn into an actual ballgame rather than a whiffing exhibition.
And with several players having chances to wear the Sombrero, it’s nice that Nelson Cruz was the one who ran off with it.
League wide there were more K’s than hits in April, first time ever.
Canhammered
Looks more safe than out, but also too close to overturn. I hope.
I am on the radio now. this is madness
Looks safe
The reality is, the A’s were pretty happy to see Ichiro and his .470 OPS in that 9th inning situation.
He’s hitting .200 with no extra base hits. Really needs to hang ’em up.
0-2 today
Can we get a 16 ton weight to fall on Dee Gordon or something.
beep beep
Just his toes?
Never in doubt
it sounds stupid, but all I really need to keep coming back is games like this.
ALso, the A’s won the game Randy Johnson struck out 19
A’s lineup in that one:
Jason McDonald
Rafael Bournigal
Geronimo Berroa
Mark McGwire
Jose Canseco
Pat Lennon
Scott Brosius
George Williams
Mark Bellhorn
Somehow only Bellhorn wore the sombrero.
Great to see the A’s won. Sharks had a great performance, Hertl was outstanding.
And I have to say, as much as I love the Helm logo for VGK, their uniforms are butt ugly.
Great series, Friday’s game is yuge!
I wasn’t able to watch most of game yesterday, but the Marcus Sorensen goal was really nice. He’s been one of the Sharks best players this series.
That’s it for Ichiro. Will be interesting to see if he gets a curtain call tonight.
Glad to see he took my advice.
The Mets radio broadcast has an ad for a car dealership in Smithfield, NY featuring Sean Hannity saying “tell them Sean Hannity sent you.”
“Koch Industries is proud to sponsor this broadcast of Yankees baseball…”
That sounds right on point for the Kochs.
And for the Yanks.
Speaking of radio ads, for as long as I can remember the A’s have always had a jewelry store sponsor. At least three different ones over the years. I wouldn’t have thought baseball one the radio was a prime market for jewelry.
if you didn’t already know, 1-800-no cuffs is a terrible service
I am hoping not to have to avail myself of their services.
One of the few former radio sponsors I have actually patronized is Pave fine jewelers, who made the Upgrade wedding rings many years ago.
How did this go almost a whole day without someone making a terrible “Baseball fans love diamonds” joke.
Were you all saving it for me? That’s so sweet of you…
John Sterling says Evan Gahtis and Carlos Korea.
Stew in Fosse’s seat tonight. Slusser in the pregame studio.
slusser needs to be on th eair
She’s good.
Notwithstanding a few really nice plays I am still not remotely sold on Canha as a defensive outfielder.
The reality is, you can clearly see that Manaea is bursting with newfound confidence, and that’s enabling him to pitch with a consistency that allows him to deliver a shutdown frame when they A’s really need one.
I would like one of the A’s to adopt Strawberry Letter 23 as his walk up song.
Damn, that’s a fantastic choice!
I’ll go with this groove between 0:26 and 1:09.
A truly favorable pitching matchup tonight. I can’t remember the last time we had one of those.
Wade LeBlanc was the weakest Friend but he was kind of endearing in Episodes.
I think more of Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig.
We only made it through a couple episodes of Episodes. Does it get better?
Not really. The Matt LeBlanc playing himself gag is amusing but not enough to carry a show.
Just came here to post the same thing: Keuchel, McCullers, Cole, Felix, Paxton is a pretty tough stretch. No excuses for not scoring a bunch against LeBlanc tonight.
Another Coliseum crowd at Safeco, by the looks of it.
You can execute your new ballpark perfectly, but you still have to make postseason more often than the Buffalo Effing Bills.
Of course Ichiro retires this way. Delightfully weird.
Dee Gordon is 12/25 against us this year. It’s like they still have Ichiro at the top of the lineup.
I already hate him so fking much.
The hell was that, guys?
That seemed like a ball a decent rightfielder could catch.
Piscotty just seems meh at everything.
9th game of a 9-game road trip starting to have a familiar dead skunk smell.
can the a’s score 40 next inning?
it aint april seani
I mean, i am aware of JAMS and what they do, but the tagline here has got to be a joke, yeah?
Stew seems like he is only a few years away from being Fosse.
I’m fond of the old expression “has a face for radio.” Dave Stewart has a voice for TV.
You mean silent film?
how about 8 can they score 8?
Bob has Trivino warming up but this game is looking Font-astic.
Mediocre team concludes 9-game divisional road trip with mediocre 4-5 record.
So far I like Good Magic esp at the 12-1 morning line price, but we’ll see how that holds up. Hard to toss Justify though. Fun field to cap.
And Primera?
I will be sure to let her fans know.
I don’t doubt her pedigree, or that she could cover the distance, but it’s 3 year olds only.
