Apologies if it’s been discussed previously, but is anyone considering signing up for THe Athletic Bay Area? I considered it, saw the price, and am now not considering it.
I’ll see if it has legs, but it looks like he’s assembling some real sports reporting talent. I think there’s a market for what he’s trying to do, maybe this will hit that spot.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
I did sign up for it a week or so ago, because I clicked on an article which I couldn’t read but which presented a “flash sale” offer of $19.99/year. I had just spent more than that on a mediocre lunch, so I gave them a little money and hope it turns into something. The Bay Area page is up and running this morning.
Phish doesn’t usually cover the Dead but it’s not unprecedented; Bob sat in with them for most of a set last year and they did some Dead, including West L.A. Fadeaway. They have thrown several unusual covers into the current run of shows. I’ll look at the setlist later tonight.
This is a variant of the tweet that went around this weekend asking people to name their five favorite athletes of all time (The correct answers are Rickey Henderson, Rickey Henderson, Rickey Henderson, Rickey Henderson, and Rickey Henderson)
The Cubs also released Brett Anderson yesterday after his DFA. Coulombe could use left-handed company in the bullpen, so I have no problem picking him up for the MLB minimum and shipping Josh Smith back to Nashville. It would give Brett a low-pressure way to demonstrate that he has value as a reliever for a couple months.
This got me to look up “whatever happened to Eric Surkamp?” His Korean stint after he left the A’s organization last year appears to have been quite unsuccessful, and he’s apparently out of baseball this year.
Trump going after legal immigration and promoting white victimhood at colleges and police brutality while Paul Ryan does shit like this seem like signs that the GOP has already shot its legislative wad for this congress. They are now just trying to salvage the midterms by ginning up the racists.
Not what I was expecting. But the Giants are starting lefties the next two nights, and (despite his historical reverse splits) Canha is probably a better option than Joyce, Brugman, or Olson for those games.
He’s very, very good. But mostly the economics of top level soccer clubs are completely insane due to the influx of unlimited foreign cash. He’s basically property of a sovereign wealth fund now.
yea Messi is 30 and Neymar is 25. Messi is going to stay good for a long, long time though. He’s got such a wide skillset that even while he gets older and a bit slower he’ll still be very, very good.
And I have to say: mikev is one of my favorite people on here
-slusser.
1 gants fans were docile from first pitch
2 there were no giants chants that didn’t get immediately drowned out
3 there was a guy in an a’s jacket that stood up cup his ear and turned away from the field at every Giants fly ball, he was a hero
4 dmoas is right, the seats are oriented weird
5 I still cannot read their scoreboard well
6 When Gosset struck out in his second ab, I don’t thnk anyone in the crowd noticed. no clapping no nothing. it was weird. they clapped for every other out.
I just got an email wednesday asking if I want to go plus one, had to rearrange a bunch of stuff, it was weird walking the gauntlet of people that were just waiting outside.
I suppose he also got tickets to the rickshaw? None of the 4 computers I was in on got them.
It was cool. there were maybe maybe 4 people there under 40.
Between innings sumo wrestling contest. Two guys in heavily padded outfits bouncing off each other. Somehow one of them got hurt. He has been laying out there in short left field for 10 minutes while the medics work. Game delayed. Stretcher coming out now.
Once the Raiders leave town I suspect I’ll give up football altogether. Between the crippling blows and constant jingo/militarism, it’s a lot harder to find rationalizations for supporting the NFL.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
I’m never totally clear on a lightning delay at a golf tournament (PGA in Reno). Don’t stand out here where you’re exposed to lightning, go stand somewhere else where you’re exposed to lightning.
I waited out the delay and it was fun doing the final few holes with a four-person gallery, one of whom was me and another being your standard hottie twenty-something player’s wife. She was a sweetie, actually grabbing a drink for me out of the players’ cooler at the tee.
Sonny would not have allowed that run.
(I didn’t see the top of the first)
You need about 8 runs in 2-1/3 innings pitched against Human Batting Tee Matt Cain.
He is throwing complete trash.
Yeah, he just isn’t good anymore.
Makes me feel a little better about not extending our players into their free agency years.
Even his 2018 buyout is $7.5 million, per Cot’s.
28 WAR, $17 M during his cost-controlled years.
3 WAR, $125 M (including that buyout) subsequently.
Almost identical to Zito:
30 WAR, $18 M for Oakland
3 WAR, $119 M for SF
It must be nice to be able to piss that much money away and still win championships.
cool
Please get rid of Angela, please please please.
That was her best work of the season!
If Angela and Klay start making out on that little couch, I’ll probably watch.
Throw Kara in there, and I’m in.
The way Angela was leaning into Klay during that segment left little doubt that she would immediately tear Kara limb from limb.
I’d be in for that, too.
Stop it. Stop it right now. You’ve already sold us. Just take our damn money. All of it.
I love Klay so very much.
The Giants are currently in line for the 2nd overall pick and the A’s are 5th, so of course this means they’ll draft the next Posey out from under us.
they need to finished tied
Forst on Fowler: “It’s an unusual injury for a baseball player. It’s more something you’d see in football, like a running back.”
Yikes
“We’re not bright. Look how not smart we are. Let me brag about the garbage we just traded for.”
The fact that Forst still has a job shows how little Beane is worried about his own job security.
6 runs please
sad and pathetic
does bruce need glasses?
Vision plan.
BURN THAT HAT
SLAM
A big Semien!
now jed cant mak an out
Who the fuck goes to a baseball game to play pool?
the green seats are giant’s fans that didn’t materialize
Le Grande Semien!
Ugh, Hendriks against Posey
Plate appearances like that cause me to wonder how long Healy will stick in the majors.
i don’t mind him this year, but I wonder about nunez
Then he does something like that, and I feel better.
I believe our bullpen is up to this task!
I see Bochy still likes to swap one shitty reliever out for another mid-inning.
I respect his determination to make Giants fans suffer longer.
FtGs
Doolittle and Treinen were not closers, then traded for each other, now both closing.
Sure, the Giants will draft some future Hall of Famer, but the process of them losing 105 or so en route to that is quite pleasurable.
The only time the Giants lost 100 games they got Matt Williams in the draft. The also crappy A’s valiantly lost only 85 and got Scott Hemond.
Giants stadium is a better value in the secondary markets
Ugh. Listening to Beane “we needed to do something” shows why that was such a bad trade.
Whoo hoo! I do believe I’m on a personal 5 game win streak.
sheeeeee, 100% of the games i’ve attended in the past 2 or 3 seasons have had grand slams by the A’s.
Can you be in tbe stands for my softball game tomorrow?
Apologies if it’s been discussed previously, but is anyone considering signing up for THe Athletic Bay Area? I considered it, saw the price, and am now not considering it.
Pay money for some shit ran by kawakami?
Nah.
Thanks, and go As.

Happy Jerry’s birthday, FKers!

(show is over, no Dead covers)
Which one of you jokers is Magary?

FK Brett Anderson. Colossal D-bag.
Thanks, and go As.
Obligatory
No, yes, yes, no.
Not terribly familiar with Odom, but that was my reaction too.
I am underwhelmed by this top of the first.
Yonder picked a bad time for his rare error. Manaea not exactly picking him up.
He may have cost 3 outs on potential DP balls that inning.
Not sure what the hell Joyce is doing tonight either.
This is one of the rare times I’m glad Josh Smith is still on the roster.
It’s a great night for Manaea to assert himself as the ace of the staff going forward.
We have seven more innings for these teams to put their ample gruesomeness on full display.
Chapman’s arm has to be an 80, right? It’s stupid.
Thanks, and go As.
I give it an 81.
LOL at the bleacher fan in the Surkamp jersey.
Is it Eric Surkamp?
This got me to look up “whatever happened to Eric Surkamp?” His Korean stint after he left the A’s organization last year appears to have been quite unsuccessful, and he’s apparently out of baseball this year.
So is that a yay or nay on him being in the bleachers?
stop with the 7-4 “holy toledo”
that would be a *click*
dammit!

Unfortunately it still has a good chance of working.
I mean, convincing people that we were all going to get ebola worked. So yeah. But I think they’re pretty FKed without the black guy in the oval.
Not what I was expecting. But the Giants are starting lefties the next two nights, and (despite his historical reverse splits) Canha is probably a better option than Joyce, Brugman, or Olson for those games.
If Canha starts two games in right field in that park, I’ll put the over/under on LOLs at 1.5.
Good grief. This Neymar guy must be Trout, Harper and Kershaw all rolled into one.
He’s very, very good. But mostly the economics of top level soccer clubs are completely insane due to the influx of unlimited foreign cash. He’s basically property of a sovereign wealth fund now.
Also, he’s like 6 years younger than the only guys who are plausibly better than him (Messi, CR, etc) right?
yea Messi is 30 and Neymar is 25. Messi is going to stay good for a long, long time though. He’s got such a wide skillset that even while he gets older and a bit slower he’ll still be very, very good.

Even the shitty, unqualified nominees for ag department posts turn out to be massive racists.
Isn’t that a prerequisite under this administration?
milkshake duck.
but also, cowardly lion.
Also Mr. Creosote.
Dave Kaval is the TV pregame guest, live from on a boat in McCovey Cove, from which they are launching A’s teeshirts. Very cool.
He’s a good showman. That’s for sure.
I would swear that at one point Matt Moore was really very good at pitching.
2012 BA top prospects:
1. Harper
2. Moore
3. Trout
Pinder!
Healy started a 3-6-3? Holy shit.
so, some hilariousness at the game.
1 gants fans were docile from first pitch

Their fans are awful. I truly do not enjoy watching baseball with them even when the Giants are embarrassing themselves.
My verdict from a month trial of YouTube TV:
Overall pleasant interface and experience. I love that you can see the actual video playing on the channels as you surf through the list.
The “DVR” function works pretty well, but I found it difficult to locate future programming to select for recording.
Very stable on my laptop using the chrome browser. Chromecast functionality is very smooth.
Lots of problems on the iPhone app. Frequent messages that content not available in my area when I am in the middle of watching a game.
Bottom line it’s going to be a damn good product so long as you own a chromecast device.
Thanks. They are still only in (most of) the top 20 markets. I’m in #112…

Tonight is your final chance this season to catch Jose Canseco’s pregame and postgame analysis.
I’m sad I missed the Ozzie stunt.
did he bite the head off a baseball bat?
While doing a backflip running out to SS
Jose is a lunkhead and really should find a job in a lunkhead capacity of some kind.
Ow
That was a bad challenge.
Yep
Graveman making it easier for me to catch up on Twin Peaks tonight.
I took the opportunity to watch the first couple episodes of “Insecure.” Very funny show.
If you’re not watching this game, you made a good life choice.
I was, but have since corrected.
i was doing amazing that no one cares about and I couldn’t tell people about. it has been a harrowing 2 days.
Jawbreaker played a secret show in albany.
did you go?
one of the guys i went to the game with on monday knew about it, went, got in, AND DIDN’T GIVE ME AN OUNCE OF HEADS UP.
was he one of the guys hanging around the outside looking for someone to bring them in?
One of the guys you went to a game with last year knew and didn’t give you an ounce of heads up either. dont get mad
1. he got in. works for ticketfly, so knows about this stuff.
2. I’M SO MAD RIGHT NOW.
not really. i was going to go to a different show at the white horse but bailed and stayed home because late-mid-40s (too tired).
I just got an email wednesday asking if I want to go plus one, had to rearrange a bunch of stuff, it was weird walking the gauntlet of people that were just waiting outside.
I suppose he also got tickets to the rickshaw? None of the 4 computers I was in on got them.
It was cool. there were maybe maybe 4 people there under 40.
here
nice, short set. i prolly coulda made it through that.
thinking back, it was pretty amazing
a little bit longer at the rickshaw. pretty cool.
dudes really like raising their hands and singing along.
also, long lne at the mens room, not so much they womyns.
I gave up with two outs in the 1st.
The rotation is a FKing dumpster fire.
3-0 Sounds in the 3rd. Barreto not striking out so I’m going lowbrow with $2 Thirsty Thursday Coors pints. Trogdor 0 for 2 with 2 K.
Between innings sumo wrestling contest. Two guys in heavily padded outfits bouncing off each other. Somehow one of them got hurt. He has been laying out there in short left field for 10 minutes while the medics work. Game delayed. Stretcher coming out now.
One correction: it wasn’t “two guys” (I wasn’t close enough to see that).
Heh.
What’s that thing on his right thigh?
large print unsecured android.

We get it, he has the same name as a fish. doesn’t mean the hats are cool
that was a terrible call on the challenge
