SeatGeek must be making a fortune in the secondary ticket market for this game.
It appears Puerto Rico may be invading the Coliseum…it is a soft target.
The over/under on Lou Gossett Jr. posts by me is 4.
Over Easy Odor Eaters
I’m packing for Hawaii…should I bring swim trunks or A-1 Sauce?
Wow…that was a hell of hit Maxwell took there.
Rough inning for my dude
It sure feels like he shouldn’t be in the game.
Did you see Vogt take a bad shot to the head/neck this evening?
Bed sign up for twitter and let Angela know your thoughts about the bad beards.
I’m on it.
I cannot wait to turn my phone off…I’d love to never turn it back on.
I have to make sure to pack my Swiss Army knife to fight off the Tiger sharks.
If I could back in a time machine all that time I spent reading about government, politics, and history I wish I’d instead studied art, philosophy, and music. I also wish I’d been a 49ers fan…I’m pretty sure I’d have more hair.
After the last few seasons, I’d not be so sure.
Last 30 years the 49ers have had 18 winning seasons…the Raiders have had 8. Like I said I’m pretty sure I’d have more hair.
Breaking News! The A’s have just traded Rajai Davis to the Mexican League for Jake Taylor.
I learned most of my mime skills at Toastmasters.
I completely forgot Plouffe was on this team.
I forgot he existed…I still can’t tell the difference between him and Joyce.
Was going to say that I was pretty sure the A’s DFA’d him, but then I realized you are talking about the Rays.
I’ve watched over 50 A’s games this year…easily the most baseball I’ve watched since one of my early AN years. The thing I’ll remember the most is Khris Davis’ golden arm.
There were games in April/May when 8 of the 9 in the lineup were over 30. I hope we look back at 2017 as the year we turned the Titanic. Those of us in the bleachers in the late 80s thought of 1986 as that season.
7 but who’s counting.
Hmph, I thought there was an 8 but I couldn’t find one. 7 plus Jaff would have been close enough but I didn’t see one of those either.
I’ve enjoyed it…and it’s been fun posting on FK again.
Aloha Jennifer.
Lowrie came into tonight with the same number of plate appearances as he had last year.
2016: 12 doubles, 2 HR, 10 GIDP
2017: 27 doubles, 10 HR, 5 GIDP
And nobody wants him.
Neither Brady nor Rosales has appeared in a game since July 3, and it looks like Brady might beat Rosie back into action.
Pigs fly.
i am in santa cruz, had to ditch front row seat tomorrow.
will be occupied by my seat mate johnny and his friend whose name i can’t recall
The Giants had their “sellout” streak end last night too.
About as legit as the previous Fenway streak (i.e. not).
Easily 95% of the ballcaps I’ve seen worn in Spain so far are Yankees hats, largely worn by people who I’d gauge to have no interest in baseball. I blame the mlb blackout policy.
I remember being stunned by the number of Yankees hats I saw in France as a teen when the Yankees were terrible. It is admittedly a good looking hat.
I agree, the NYY hat and unis are some of the best in all sports. But here it seems like more a dominant pop culture thing.
A possibly related sartorial observation is huge #s of (mostly) women wearing tees with trite or nonsensical English language phrases.
New York is pretty cool, tho
hILARIOUSLY, i WAS OFFERED TICKETS
Shockingly, at Wimbledon and around London/Paris this month I saw three A’s hats. My guess is for the unique color combo.
Green and gold and a big A is a popular look for Australians.
I don’t know anything about this publication, but I like the name.
Huh. This thing must be serious.
I can see something like that being worth a subscription. How often do they have “flash sales”? Right now you can subscribe for $20/year.
Weird, when I go there it’s $40/year.
While I had that flash sale offer on screen I went ahead and paid the $20. If nothing else it’s a charitable contribution to a startup. If they put together a decent operation in the Bay Area as they appear to have in their other cities it will be worth something.
Bannon is a dangerous nutjob, but this is a pretty solid burn.
Though it’s not easy to f*** any mothers with a limp d***
Thank you. That was the first thing I thought when I read that this morning. My second thought was far too inappropriate to repeat.
Something involving Jim Johnson, I imagine.
It looks like the combination of Free Parking Tuesday and Root Beer Float Night saves them the embarrassment of a second straight sub-10K announced attendance. Or maybe everyone came out to experience the Chris Smith Phenomenon firsthand.
I would think listening to ray for 9 innings would force people into the seats
boom
They don’t throw the ball to the dugout when you make your first MLB error?
Not a great performance for Bartolo Colon tonight (4 innings plus 3 batters, 8 hits, 4 runs). He does hit the 10-team mark with tonight’s appearance.
He avoided tying Jamie Moyer’s record of allowing major league HRs in 43 different parks.
Rosie! Take his name off the Missing Persons list.
This interview is kind of awkward.
“empathy” for the fans is an odd talking point.
I have the radio sound on, but was noticing that they have also gone much younger upstairs compared to Wolff/Crowley.
Is this the guy they just hired from Cal?
No, this is the COO. He does identify himself as a “Cal Bear” in his Twitter profile, as well as a “Fresno State Bulldog”.
He just said he’s from Clovis.
His bio on the A’s site says he got his bachelor’s from Fresno State and MBA from the Haas School of Business.
His job description makes me wonder exactly what Kaval does.
Kaval gets the ballpark built and keeps Fisher happy.
Giles said Kaval picked him for the job after they had worked together co-promoting international soccer matches with the Quakes and Niners.
I suppose the ballpark is pretty much a full time job in itself. Some of the things Kaval was the public face for (bringing in food trucks, 75 beer taps) must be falling to Giles.
He was emphasizing growing the fanbase and “overdelivering” for fans as his main missions, so I think you’re probably right.
Everywhere but on the field.
They hired him from the 49ers.
made me switch to vince. who used return serve again. wrong, but it made me think.
Vince had his full HR call going with Chapman and the CF caught it a step short of the warning track.
FK you, Rosie.
Clutch WP!
Phuck you Phegley.
I didn’t see anything conclusive enough to overturn, and neither did Ken.
i’m with you guys
Yeah, that seemed pretty equivocal.
And let’s NOT check in with Angela.
She is not good at talking.
Day Two of Starting Pitcher Beard Crisis 2017 coverage from Angela.
I’m going to guess that 40 years from now, Chris Smith will show his grandchildren some video and the game stories and box score from 7/18/17 and proudly say it was the highlight of his baseball career.
just hope jario complies with the story
Walking the buck ninety-four hitting 2nd basemen isn’t helping.
God FKing dammit Casilla.
ffs
Couldn’t they have said Casilla’s real real name was Doolittle?
I was at the Giants game (happily rooting for Mrs. N’s team) and called that as soon as I saw we had a 1-run lead going into the 9th.
I guessed wrong on whether the runs were earned, though.
FK you, Jairo
This.
I hope Dull gets a shot as the full-time closer starting a few weeks from now.
Bob should have sent Chris Smith out to make this pitching change.
THROW SOME FKING STRIKES
I am going to print a picture of Casilla’s face and tape it to a piece of wood, and spend the rest of the evening driving nails into it.
Is Beane’s bullpen construction over the past 3 years his worst collective work as GM?
TARE
Thanks, and go As.
No. But only because the bullpen doesn’t matter on a team like this.
Nothing like waking up and seeing that Casilla blew the save to reassure me that nothing at home has changed.
NOT TRUE
we traded away 2 relievers better than him.
Thanks, and go As.
one of which gave up a run in the 9th ot the angels
Today’s game is the MLB.com Free Game of the Day, so you should be able to watch there.
It had escaped my notice that Cal’s upcoming 2-10 football season will not be played on “Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium”. It’s just “California Memorial Stadium” for now, although
This came up in connection with the Dodgers’ quest to rename their field (and, oh, collect some money).
We’ll have to see if Rickey is willing to fork over some bucks to keep that #24 and “Rickey Henderson Field” paint job behind home plate, and the signs on the outfield fence, next year.
The A’s should pay Rickey for the use of his name.
The Dodgers should pay Rickey for the A’s using his name.
Rickey thinks everyone should pay Rickey when Rickey’s name is used.
Betamax lives! On BART!
270 feet from first base to home plate proved to be 20 feet too much for Alonso.
I appreciate his commitment to not getting hurt.
The Chairman Emeritus is in the house, probably to meet all the new employees.
The Rays’ field reporter actually talks about baseball stuff. She is quite easy on the eyes as well.
She’s new this year. Their previous one got in trouble for talking about other stuff.
Ooh, she’s willing to snuggle with the guys in right field too.
How in the world was Maxwell going to be thrown out on that??
I assumed he could see that it bounced over the fence.
I sure hope so.
I wasn’t sure why he gave it the half-assed slide at the end. Maybe hearing his Little League coach yelling “Don’t try to be an umpire!”, but replay takes care of that stuff.
A couple of runs there thanks to good old fashioned speed. Nice to see a little of that.
I don’t watch too many day games live in the summer but it’s just as well today. We’re getting hit hard with smoke from that fire near Mariposa.
Ugh, Semien.
Double ugh
The result being that the bullpen has to get 8 outs instead of 6.
Hot Small Ball Action from the A’s there.
Not man enough to fire him Don? Very low energy. Sad.
Say the words Don: He perjured himself.
Bye Felicia
Wait for the spin and deflection.
Things Sessions should no longer have:
A security clearance.
A job with the US government.
Things Sessions should have in the near future:
A jumpsuit
A jail cell
Thanks, and go As.
no cookie workshop in the trunk of a tree??
cause i can really see him in a cookie workshop in the trunk of a tree.
Sogard won’t let him.
Thanks, and go As.
Nice little feedback loop
Gah!
(Maybe getting Cruz out of the Senate would be worth it though?)
Why would Cruz do that? Besides the fact that he probably still hates Trump personally, it doesn’t seem too politically expedient to give up a Senate seat to jump inside the trump administration dumpster fire.
All I’ve got is that it would be a perch from which he could do lots of harm. That has to be a little appealing for him.
giuliani???
that can’t be right. he’s got actual experience doing that sort of job.
It’s his secret plan. One by one he is going to pick off GOP senators.
Ahahahahahaah
He’d fire him, but he prefers to use him a punching bag instead.
It’s pretty wild how the guy who built his entire brand around the phrase “you’re fired” is too chickenshit to actually fire anyone.
He’s just waiting for the Producers to call him and tell him who he should fire.
Steve Bannon presents “Springtime for Trumpler”.
Winter for the G .. O P
They must be getting some nibbles on Khris.
And if they don’t trade Khris, Carter can stay there.
If they trade Khris and promote Chris, then there is still a logjam at 1B/DH with Alonso, Healy, and Carter. Trogdor in LF sounds like a bad idea.
But if he is at AAA for now it is a little to no cost flyer if both Krush and Alonso move. And it’s Trogdor, thats really all I need.
I also liked that he was playing R.E.M.’s “Man on the Moon” as the telecast came back from commercial.
