Pelvic exams for everyone!
Sonny Gray’s beard is totally jealous of Dallas Braden’s beard.
So, I guess everyone is pumped for the second half.
mlb has an offer: 2nd half mlb.tv, half off!*
*Final 70 games
Sadly I paid full price long ago.
In-game manager interviews now? Boo.
Three man booth, in game interviews…I guess we’re following the Fox model for baseball coverage. Now all we need is closeups of random sitcom stars in the stands.
Braden cited an Eno Sarris column earlier.
that sounds fun, but I will listen to national treasure tom hamlton
Alas, he has not replaced Angela.
A sign you’re getting older…I don’t recognize any of the walk up music of the young players.
2016 38-51 2017 39-50
I admire the consistency.
You know…I’m seeing a trend here.
That was a pretty awful at bat for Chapman.
Oh good…they’ve kept the Angela parts of the broadcast.
mark ellis scopes that up from his feet
that was a great play by chapman
Khris Davis’ right arm should be the face of baseball in the American League.
MLB.tv used to not show commercials…now it shows the same four commercials between every inning…Thanks Bud…and yes, I know he’s no longer the commissioner but I still like to blame him for stuff.
I’m happy to see all the young guys play. I’m baffled why Rajai Davis is still playing.
Rajai got a bad read on that.
But he has great getaway sticks because he plays for the good guys.
Mark Mulder > Dallas Braden
Hatteberg, Mulder, Braden >>> Ray Fosse
I don’t recall ever hearing Hatteberg. I’ve enjoyed Mulder this year.
Angela Sun’s bucket cap should be the face of baseball in the American League.
So far Chapie hasn’t been within a foot of the ball with his swings.
someone should tip him off to offspeed pitches
Hopefully he’ll get plenty of chances to fail and learn the rest of this season.
with his glove, im good
For now…sure. I want the A’s to be patient with all the young players. This team is a ways away from being competitive.
Coming up on the next Free Kraut Podcast our guest will be Helmut Kohl.
Make him read the Me Undies promo.
Glorious Mundy will be our producer.
Like I’ve often said…Rajai Davis is my favorite A’s player of all time.
Yeah, I really don’t care for Braden on the mike. Cliches and catchphrases.
That dog looks really happy to have that hat on her head.
And you know the one thing that you always like to see a manager that whether it was a consideration or not Rajai Davis played and played well for the Tribe last year and what better way to have a player play against the team that he left and was very instrumental in their run to the World Series.
I agree Ray.
I spent like 5 minutes backing up just to transcribe that sentence. Scholars will be trying to parse it for years.
It’s the Dead Sea Scrolls of this generation.
So, is the ball juiced or are the players juicing again? I mean I’m fine with it either way but I am curious.
Okay, now we just need someone to complain about Vince or Glen and we’ve got the our announcers suck hat trick. Andeux and I have done our part.
Ray Ratto is like the before the before picture in the before and after picture.
In our new feature…Bed explains his bad posts badly…Ratto is the like the before the before picture because he needs to look healthier before he can be the before picture in the before and after picture. I like Ratto but he looks like he’s about to keel over. This post is brought to you by Transformers 7: Darkside of the Last Knight of the Thingie on the Back of Megan Fox’s Ankle Tattoo. A Film By Michael Bay.
Working for a health and fitness company I often explain to people that I was hired so that I can also fill in as the “before” pictures when needed. (to my knowledge this is not true..)
With the way the A’s and Giants are playing this year the Battle of the Bay is going to be more of a skirmish.
I never feel confident when Sonny is pitching. Even when he’s pitching well it always feels like he’s right on the edge of disaster.
Once I read someone had Papa John’s for their last meal so their execution was actually only the second worst thing that happened to them that day.
I’m thinking about throwing it all away and following my dream of having my own YouTube channel dedicated to the world of competitive tea making.
Sonny’s brother Earl will be competing with Brews Maxwell.
And andeux wins the thread.
I was disappointed to find out that Lyme Disease doesn’t turn you green and make you taste great when paired with lemons.
Now that’s the Rajai I know and love.
I was happy to find a podcast about podcasting…now I just need someone to make a podcast about this podcast.
So, if Beyonce’s son ever gets knighted he’ll be Sir Sir Carter?
I feel like my wife and I really dropped the ball not giving out kids pretentious names.
did you have to return to the mainland?
I haven’t gone yet…I had to take a couple of business trips so my Hawaii trip got pushed back a couple of weeks.
I was actually in California but it was LA so it doesn’t really count.
I actually like LA
It’s no Fresno.
I can vouch for this!
One year in and I will admit that I am enjoying SoCal more than I thought I would. The traffic is what you make of it. As a homebody I really dont notice it that much. And if I get stuck in traffic because Im going to a concert or something cool I remind myself that if I lived in all the other places without traffic I wouldnt get to go to whatever it is im going to.
I’m glad it’s working for you.
Late inning baseball with all the pitching changes is tough to sit through. I mean why does the manager have to walk out there and why does the new reliever need all those warm up tosses after he’s bee warming up in the bullpen? The manager should just point to the pen and pitcher should be ready to go.
Hm, that could be a reasonable rule tweak. Don’t limit the number of pitching changes allowed any more than they are, but don’t allow (as many? any?) warmup throws if they are done mid-inning.
They need to do something.
they need the warm ups for a commercial, but I see no reason why a manager has to walk out to the mound to take someone out every time. I get it for a starter, or someone that has been in multiple innings, but not a one batter reliever.
Does Francona really need to make two mid-inning pitching changes down 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh?
I was trying to catch up on baseball before the game but most of the sports sites had more on summer league basketball which I didn’t even know existed.
Casilla is money with a five run lead.
never in doubt
Good win…chicken parmesan for everyone!
TBH that sounds good right now
Thanks, and go As.
One thing I noticed from the front row seats yesterday was that whenever Sonny was pitching the used balls were handed over the wall to a team official, which I haven’t seen before. It made me wonder if they were consciously building up their supply of Sonny-used game balls for merchandising after he’s gone.

Congrats to Jean Quan for finally entering a reputable line of work.
Not a single true day game in MLB today.
Just checked the sched in the hopes the A’s might have a 1 PM, which at +9 hours would be perfect for me. Tomorrow though!
Wow, great timing…I turned the game on just in time for an Angela segment.
Blackburn. Should I know who this is?
He’s not the guy from Pirates of the Carribean.
G-Eazy. Should I know who this is?
I have been having that same thought ever since they started reading that promo.
One other thing about my musical cluelessness: Yesterday, Mulder’s group was immediately following Justin Timberlake’s group. That was sweet, because a lot of great viewing spots opened up as Timberlake cleared each green and moved on to the next tee. When we got to the 16th green, Timberlake was clowning around on the adjacent 17th tee, and apparently they were playing some of his songs on the speakers…but how the hell am I supposed to recognize a Justin Timberlake song?
for sure to everythng you said, but timberlake is not a bad dude
Believe me, from walking the course, nobody who participates in this event is a “bad dude”…or they wouldn’t be here to begin with. It’s not a PGA event, and a positive attitude about engaging with the fans is an essential of the participation. At times we had to wait a bit for Timberlake so we could look ahead and watch him, and he loves it. That said, I don’t chat it up with Mulder, except to say something positive about his last shot (“nice bounce off the tree there, Mark”).
I had fun at that tourney the couple of times I went. I can now say I’ve seen Englebert Humperdinck play golf…which means I’ve led a full life.
It has become a very big event, probably too big. I’m not sure I want to take it seriously as a golf event any more; the PGA has a secondary event in Reno in a couple weeks to fill that slot. If I go again, rather than watching the best golfers I might walk along with someone like Al Michaels, who I walked with for a couple holes while waiting for Mulder’s tee time. He’s in his 70s (does not project the image of “little old man” on TV but in person that’s exactly what he is) and his golf certainly isn’t worth watching, but he’s chatting and cracking jokes the whole time.
My biggest memory was seeing how bad of a swing Charles Barkley had…it was the worst golf swing I’d ever seen. I also got to boo Mike Shanahan and John Elway the second year I went so that was nice.
What happened to that Brugman kid?
Northeastern Ohio gamblers got to him.
Well, I guess that means the hall of fame is out.
Why do I keep asking questions?
” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen>
I love that movie.
i want to rewatch now
So, the A’s are celebrating Rickey’s white jersey by wearing their green beer league softball jerseys. Why are they doing this and more importantly why do you park in a driveway and drive in a parkway?
Is there anything left for the A’s to name after Rickey Henderson? If they kept any of their players perhaps one of them could pull a Rickey and try and renegotiate their contract.
I’m calling it…this is the worst facial hair decade since the 1860’s.
I’m pretty sure if I gave my daughter a free A’s backpack for the school year she’d call child protective services.
In my Yonder Alonso fan fiction his dad is Hector Elizondo and they solve mysteries as a father and son private eye team.
I think Fosse just compared Andrew Miller to Jim Mecir.
I still fear Mecir…sometimes I have flashbacks of his screwball getting screwed.
Matt Chapman is having a good game.
Raised his OPS from .466 to .726 tonight.
Works for me.
What’s the difference between a touch outside and a bit outside? And I’d like an answer please.
How do I turn iron into gold? And I’d like an answer please.
Good win…fish tacos for everybody.
Walk off win and Free Kraut goes wild!
The win is nice but I don’t really give a rat’s ass about the Khris HR. That was the Matt Chapman game, and that’s why I’ll be watching the rest of the season.
I andeux credits Rickey for that win.

In case you have seen this on the many-faced book:
Ouch! What happened?
you should have seen the other guy
Spinal stenosis in the C5-C6 and C6-C7 area. Now, in addition to being a metal head, I am now a metal neck.
I hope you feel better soon.
If someone drops a briefcase behind you in the courtroom, don’t turn your head. You’ll blow the whole deal.
we can rebuild him.
I’m going to have a tofu hot dog and a diet root beer while I watch the game…I’ll probably kill myself later.
Gross and gross
16 year old me totally hates my guts.
Glen and Ray are complaining about 44% humidity…amateurs.
Let’s hope Chapman is more McGwire and less Piatt.
More Chavez and less Brosius. More Lansford and less Gross.
If he becomes a cross between Lansford and Chavez I’ll have to talk my wife into have another kid just so I can name the kid after him whether it’s a boy or girl.
Trying to sneak an 0-2 fastball by Healy is madness. He’s dying to flail at that hook.
Big hit here and Bauer is done for.
Like I said.
Francona needs to have a talk with whoever called that pitch to Healy.
I was talking to my brother (who lives near Akron), and he was telling me that Bauer is a total head case. Sure looked like it today.
Kuiper was basically calling him a head case during the broadcast and he’s not someone who normally rips people.
I don’t know whether former Reno Ace Bauer made himself unpopular while he was here, but it’s odd that the Aces are having a “Trevor Bauer Drone Bobblehead Day” next month.
That’s awesome. They should make it drip blood from its finger somehow.
Eagerly looking forward to Coulombe and Axford and Casilla coughing this lead up in a couple of hours.
I kinda like Coulombe.
I like to think of my self as kind of a Cool Homme
The reality is, this is about to be the reality.
Let’s Go, Oakland!
Thanks goodness mlb blacks out the A’s game in Barcelona; I’d hate to think that I’d be cheating the potential Spanish fans of whatever team mlb considers the owner of Spanish territorial rights.
“Sorry, due to local broadcast restrictions, this programming is not available in your area.”
Something about the way you’re connecting that makes MLB think you’re in the Bay Area? FWIW your IP shown here traces to Vodafone Spain in Barcelona.
I’m using the nbcsports app as I would do at home, don’t have an mlb.com account. Basically the same problem I had while on the east coast last month.
Yeah – I couldn’t watch the A’s last week when I was in Florida.
Oh, I was thinking you were on MLB.tv. Yes, the NBC Sports app will only show you the game if you’re in the A’s territory.
I forget if you are a sonic customer now. But they offer free VPN which might make it look like you are in the bay area/
That’s a good thought, but i had to ditch sonic due to poor AT&T line speed at my location
Well, I’m going to file that one under you learn something new everyday.
Part of me kind of wanted Brantley to throw Semien out too.
Nice timing to show that Battle of the Bay promo starring Doo. :(
It would have been perfect if today was a Sean Doolittle bobblehead day.
They did trade Cespedes the day before his t-shirt day, as I recall.
That’s the Oakland A’s in a nutshell.
giambi dfa too
Joyce cost us a run there…if you’re going to go for two you have to be running full out.
A wasp has gotten inside my house. Do I call the police, the fire department, or both?
Luckily, I happen to have one on hand.
A $6 million option for Lowrie next year is a bargain. Someone is going to pony up for him.
Maybe he can go back to the Sox and play third for them.
Or maybe not. Yikes
Still strange that as of this afternoon the A's still haven't had a call on Jed Lowrie— Peter Gammons (@pgammo) July 17, 2017

— Peter Gammons (@pgammo) July 17, 2017
I wonder how he knows that. it would be a pretty counterproductive thing for Beane or Forst to tell him.
Maybe the agent trying to spark something?
I do remember in Moneyball, it talked about Gammons being one of the reporters Beane directly gives info to.
But yeah, what’s the benefit in sharing something like this which only hurts your leverage? Unless of course other GMs are already well aware of this fact.
Does Francona just like to get on TV? A pitching change down 5 with 2 outs in the 3rd inning…what?
Mulder, going for the three-peat, leads Derek Lowe by 6 points with 17 and 18 to play. An eagle is worth 6 points, and the par-5 18th can easily be reached in two so the fork isn’t quite in just yet.
If memory serves it seems like former pitchers tend to win that thing a lot.
Only two baseball players have ever won it, but they have combined for 10 wins. Rick Rhoden won it 8 times.
That must be what I was remembering…I know he won it one of the year’s I went.
Lowe chokes his way to a double on 17, so barring an albatross from Lowe on 18 Mulder just won.
Steph Curry finishes fourth…look out next year, Mark.
Curry will have plenty of time to practice after the mighty Kings knock the Warriors out of the playoffs next season.
Soon after this post Bed had a massive stroke. His madness was first shown with the Highway to Heaven post which paled in craziness compared to his Kings rantings.
My Game of Thrones prediction: The Mad King wasn’t actually killed by Jaime Lannister, he went into exile as an educator in Arkansas and now goes by “Bed.”
The truth finally comes to light.
That multi-colored ebay advertisement should be the face of baseball the American League.
I guess this is where I should probably admit I’m a Highway to Heaven truther…that was not a TV show, it was found footage showing the truth about angels here on Earth.
This game thread is brought to you by Papa Johns…now almost two weeks without a food poisoning related death…Papa Johns…a better way to Pizza.
I lived for a bit in a place where Papa John’s was the best pizza delivery option. I could never understand that nasty sauce they brought with it. Was I supposed to pour it on the pizza?
If Papa Johns was the best delivery option in an area I lived in I would move. I’ve gotten food poisoning twice from that joint. The only time I eat cheese anymore is with pizza so I take it seriously these days.
The way Francona is going through pitchers they better have a 10 man bullpen.
Wait a minute…the A’s are sending Bobby Wahl and Jake Smolinski…c’mon now that’s just way too much star power for an event.
My Game of Thrones predictions…some people will die, some people will get naked, some naked people will die by dragons.
I wish winter was here. It’s 100 here in the south Bay.
Mid July through August is the pits.
I’m crushed that Marshawn Lynch threw out the first pitch and we don’t get him in the booth with Fosse for an inning.
Hard to refuse to talk to the media that way.
Ray: So, Marshawn you won a championship playing for Seattle and now you play for another team that didn’t win a championship with you on the roster while you played for the team in Seattle. How will not winning a championship in Oakland while you played for Seattle effect you going forward as you try and win championship in Oakland while not playing for Seattle.
Gotta make an exception to tell the world how great it feels.
So, does Angela win a Peabody and Pulitzer or just one of those this year?
Wow, Lindor ran on Khris Davis’ arm…that’s ballsy.
So, Kid Rock and Caitlyn Jenner want to run for Senate…seriously, fuck this world.
Al Franken, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Bono, Fred Thomson, Ronald Reagan…
Fred Thomson had previous political experience and was a nothing burger as a Senator. Ventura was a one term disaster, Bono was a back bencher congressman, and Reagan took us down a hole we have yet to crawl out of…I’ll stand with my previous post.
Funny story with him was that that political types in Iowa failed to disconnect his TV persona (Gopher, a moron) from reality (Magna cum laude Harvard grad). My memory of this was that his initial candidacy was not taken seriously until too late in the campaign to make a difference, and as a result managed a close victory against some local Democratic party hack. The seat was open because the incumbent Democrat did not run for reelection because he was battling Lyme disease (the real kind, not the “chronic” type pitched by today’s Woonatics).
That dipshit Wisconsinite from the Real World
There have always been famous people in politics…FSU is right. I would like to think people would stop voting for these people but the evidence shows otherwise.
In addition to actors, how many generals have been elected President without any political experience? And, actually, without clear positions on issues; both the Republicans and Democrats were interested in Ike at one point.
Yeah, the Presidency is a little different…we’ve taken several flyers on Presidents with little to no experience. It’s a mixed bag on the results. One of the reasons I didn’t support Obama in the primaries at first was due to his lack of experience. I never vote for the winner so I realize I’m out of touch with the mainstream.
It’s hard to imagine that happening these days. Most generals are natural Republicans, and yet most aren’t racist or anti-government enough to win the nomination.
I suppose that if you had another Douglas MacArthur, we might not dodge that bullet again.
Hopefully we’ll never be in another war big enough to create another MacArthur…he would have be a Trump level disaster as President. One of my least favorite people in American history.
Same. Not to go all Trump, but “many people don’t know” what a wannabe dictator that asshole was.
One of the reasons Truman is my hero is that he fired that son of a bitch.
The Robert Caro theory that LBJ outmaneuvered MacArthur when he tried to capitalize on the firing is also a favorite of mine.
Had you been a soldier in his WWII armies, you might have a different opinion. I know they called him Dugout Doug and other such things, but as a general, the US never had anybody remotely close to his ability to maximize victories and minimize losses at the same time.
He was also a terrible politician, and would’ve been a terrible president. Ike was much better at both, but was nowhere near MacArthur’s abilities as a general.
It works for famous white guys at least, and mostly conservative white guys. Al Franken is the only liberal up there and he barely squeaked in during a presidential landslide.
Being a white guy does tend to help in the United States. To make things fair perhaps white guys should lose the vote for a cycle or two…it would be interesting to see the results. I’m in if I don’t have to pay taxes for those election years.
Very nice to see Manaea take the chance to get out of that.
Nice job by Manaea. Now for the two innings of terror.
I like how he ground his way through the start.
Last two innings he gave up lead-off doubles and stranded both of them. A lot to like there.
Good night FKers. I’ll leave this one in the capable hands of our bullpen.
Nothing to worry about.
Never in doubt.
Six inches from a homer in two directions. Bummer.
No, it’s five inches but it’s thick.
There was no way a 3-run lead was going to survive the top of the 9th. 5-run lead, there’s a chance.
That delivery looks hard on his arm.
I hate to sentence Healy to DH-or-nothing so early, but he does look like a statue at first base.
I like Healy but he does have some things to work on…which is fine.
As I said in the trades thread, I definitely want to see him start at first base for the rest of the season to find out if there’s any hope, but I’m less optimistic about that than about most of the other young players.
Really? I still like Healy a lot though he definitely needs work on both defense and plate discipline. I’m also optimistic about both Chapman and Barreto. Brugman looks awfully 4th- (or 5th-) outfielderish to me. I still don’t know what to make of Olson.
I’m just not sure Healy can ever become as fine a defensive first baseman as Jason Giambi was. It’s worth working on it, though. Brugman is Ryan Sweeney deja vu.
Good sweep…baked ziti for everyone.
Bless Kuiper’s heart for thinking this team can get to .500

Not only that, but there’s no way McConnell had 48 votes.

Well, nobody in Congress is dumb enough to say “repeal now and replace later”. That is effectively what has already happened in my county with the insurer pullouts, and the result is that nobody outside of a group plan will have insurance in 2018. If they did that and the insurer pullouts became even more widepsread, the Democrats would win about 350 House seats.
Mitch McConnell might be that dumb. But he clearly doesn’t have the votes.
As for the electoral consequences, some of these proposals have been designed to not really do anything until after the 2018 elections. I would like to believe that (enough) people are smart enough to see through that, but on the other hand isn’t taking away people’s healthcare pretty much the platform that most of these assholes have been running on for the past 8 years?
Assuming McConnell has a strategy at this point, him saying they’d vote on delayed repeal seems like a way for him to prove to the hard right (and their donor patrons) that the votes aren’t there.
Signs emerging that some of them aren’t as dumb as they have been acting.

Also yesterday, Donaldson lost grip on his bat with terrifying consequences.
As an ex-catcher, since the advent of the hockey style mask I guess I understand why some guys still choose the old mask-over-helmet method, though I wouldn’t. But sticking with mask-over-hat is just idiotic.
It’s kind of begging for something like that to happen. Does this guy want the pillow thing instead of a chest protector?
Do any home plate umps wear helmets? I thought that mask + hat was the norm.
Several do. Kerwin Danley has had issues with concussions that have caused him to have lengthy absences, so he would be one.
A google image search also shows Ed Hickox (who won a suit vs Rawlings for a defective old-style mask), CB Bucknor (too late), Bill Welke (retired?), and Manny Gonzales (who?) at least.
Welke has the plate tonight.
But he’s wearing the mask and cap.
