Manaea has worked out of trouble in every inning, to hold on to an early 1-0 lead vs. Mike Fiers.
Evan Gattis has 12 doubles this year, 6 of them against Oakland.
W: Hahn/David Paulino
Th: Cotton/Peacock

i wish for good defense
I fear Sean is not going to get out of this jam.
3-0, bases loaded, (run-scoring) GIDP.
Could have been much, much worse.
i predict healy is going to be super pumped or super mad when this ab is over
Actually fairly muted
I like super pumped.
SLAM
dah-daah-dah, dah-daah-dah

Left Manaea in 1 batter too long.
good defense is good
Nice work by Madson.
Should’ve let Brugman hit. Good time to find out if he can get a hit a lefty. We already know that Rajai can’t hit.
astros guys think doolittle likes to throw the curve with 2 strikes
FK you, Hendriks
This.
I’m saving mine for Casilla.
at least bob recognized the threat early enough to get someone ready.
Too bad that someone is jario
Curt Young was the problem though.
Fk you, Jairo
Even though he eventually closed it out.
Heh, Korach was expecting what we all were and sounded shocked.
If they can win 1 of the next 2, I’d like to think they’d at least have a shot of turning the final pre-ASB series in Seattle into a shot at emerging above .500.
OK, now that the 9th inning terror has subsided, nice win, bitches.
So, kind of a boring game then?
Nice article about managers who influenced Melvin, as he approaches his 500th A’s win and 1,000th in all. Frank Robinson and Sparky Anderson kinda seem like dicks.
That’s why I still think he’s a good manager for a team like the A’s.
last 2 years he seemed to fall back on “play the vets” whereas in 2011-14 he mixed and matched more. Part of the problem was butler, but I think this year, in the past few weeks I have enjoyed his game moves more.
I think he is a good fit still
??????
Rajai had a .400 OBP that game!
This is a fun piece. I can just picture baby faced Bob heading down to the pool to hang with the fellas only to be to told to FK off by the likes of Gibson and Morris.
Pretty happy with the Bruce Maxwell era so far.
It’s been interesting reading about the youth movement we’ve all wanted happening while we’re gone. I hope it does lead to some enthusiasm remaining for the rest of the season.
I started feeling bad for nashville though
Have you ever been to Nashville?
no
Frankie Montas is starting tonight for Nashville. May say more about their roster than the A’s plans.
hahn will be back soon
Seattle in our sights!
things could really heat up soon — and Billy Beane could be the one to light the fuse.
it’s cute how good of freinds lowrie and altuve are
Baretto does seeem lke a secondbase person
I was on the verge of posting “Jesse Hahn can’t possibly do worse than last time out,” but now I dunno.
Krushed!
ts gonna take more than 5
The Jesse Hahn experience featuring Jesse Hahn has been frustrating as fk.
good job by bob gettng a crappy pitcher out. bad job that the new one is worse
It’s only the third time in 18 appearances that Josh Smith has entered the game with the A’s either tied or in the lead, so he had to get himself out of that uncomfortable situation immediately.
zombie matt chapman makes that play
better defense and the a’s are leadng ths game for now
we totally won that inning
totally need all the matts
so maxwell doesn’t do leftes?
only working for me?
it’s just that the most relevant thing i can say is, i saw an A’s ad on bart today.
Just seems like one of those games where however many runs the A’s score, the bullpen will allow more.
Bringing Josh Smith into the game in the 3rd tells me, “don’t invest much energy in this one”.
17 strickouts is impressive too.
ffs, jermaine
Huh.
this is re: the patriot act, or the 60-days without needing to declare war thingy?
AUMF (Eternity without needing to declare war)
Significantly, Rep. Lee was the only no vote in either chamber, and she was pretty roundly pilloried for it.
This is the thing passed right after 9/11 authorizing the president “to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.”
Well that’s BS.
San Francisco politics gets more annoying every year, I swear.
When did the Astros announcing booth become such homerific tools?
they are not fun, but better than glen
khris davis leads the league is half swings
phegley’s mustache is just a reminder he is from Indiana
2 walks 2 hits. one run scores on a ground out
daniel, these guys are pretty good. keep the slider down, thanks
those aren’t “devo hats” they are energy domes
Didn’t get swept though
Yikes. Devenski made Barreto look bad.
“Name that Astro” is tough. Today’s clues:
Bonham
ERA title
Not a mortician
trea turner out 6 weeks
can lowrie stll play short?
