Scapegoat – thy name is Curt Young.
I’d ask Trevor to not let the door hit him in the ass on the way out, but only because I want him to hold it open for some of our other “veterans” who we can only hope are next.
Apparently, Aaron Judge is too tall for the strike zone. Keep the ball down, guys.

Jeez. Doesn’t anybody FKing knock anymore?
lore goes, judge brought a dildo to hold when phoebe opened the door (without telling her) to get an authentic reaction.
I’m not going to look at this and instead just assume I wouldn’t like it.
mrs ptbnl has the front row seats and didn’t take me …
rude
Sure, but at least I’ve been trying not to be.
0-2 double that rajai misplays
BUT SPEED AND VETERAN PRESENCE And … fk it.
Hmm…that’s odd I’ve never looked at Rajai and thought about Rickey Henderson.
Yeah. Shut up, Ray.
Trade Jed Now!
I’m not going to click this and instead just assume I wouldn’t like it.
They can’t even draw for the Evils…why would anyone put money into a new stadium again?
Yes, when you don’t draw fans after not spending any money on either your payroll or a stadium, clearly the answer is to just give up.
I advocate just giving up whenever possible.
2nd baseman! get your second baseman heerah!
ken singleton doesnt seem to kno rickey is from oakland
Death, taxes, and the MLB.TV app not working well on my Apple TV are the three things in life you can count on.
heddy?
Oh thank goodness…Angela is back.
Fosse flummoxed by young people’s slang is a good bit.
It’s lit!
How do you do fellow kids!!
Trade Stomper Now!
You’re dead to me now.
I end up there with everyone eventually.
OK, what the fuck good is my legit comcast log on when I’m blacked out from the A’s game stream while on the east coast?
Because you’re outside the NBCCA geofence, or because you’re in YES territory?
The former I guess; I’m in Birds/Nats territory.
I guess I stupidly assumed without thinking that a legitimate subscription-paying local could somehow stream games regardless of their actual temproary location.
I was curious about that. Good to have the answer even if at your expense.
It may not be the case for all devices. I was able to watch a Warriors CSN game on either on my laptop or phone app while in Los Angeles.
Tried on both phone and tablet, and for phone on both wifi and native Sprint signal, failed all three times. Did not try any advanced location masking tactics (I just don’t care enough).
That territory stuff is why I’ve never seen the A’s play the Astros. This is despite the fact that the Astros games aren’t shown on my DirecTV package but I’m still blacked out on MLB.TV.
Do you get any MLB locals in your package?
Didn’t make an out.
Good takes, kid
true athletic
You’ve just been ROSIED!
The kid started a nice rally.
i don;t mind rosales on the roster
I don’t mind Rosales off the roster either.
So long as he’s a pure backup, sure, he’s fine as the utility IF for a non-contending team. It’s all the starts and ABs that piss me off. Hell, for that matter I’d be fine with him being the new pitching coach.
He’s fine while Semien’s out.
Yeah, he’s out.
…and now for some reason my Apple TV is showing me the 1st inning again.
But hey at least it cost three times as as a Roku does.
I loved my Apple TV, but I haven’t really used it since I got a smart TV with Android TV apps plus chromecast built in. I just can’t find any reasons to use the Apple TV anymore.
Also, I lost that FKing tiny remote.
I lost the remote too it cost 90 bucks for a new one. It’s a good product but the MLB.TV app is buggy.
the butler did it
So, any insight on why Curt Young got the boot? Until today I had him pegged as one of the organization’s favorites, approaching unfireable in that Bob Geren kinda way.
Young pitchers weren’t progressing, is what Forst said.
Also that they needed to hear “a new voice”
I think someone had to go and Curt Young drew the short straw. If a year from now this team is still awful it’s going to be time for someone in the front office to draw one of those short straws.
I suppose when the organization’s one and only strategy for contending is to develop young cheap pitching, and too many of them turn out to suck, well, they ain’t firing Billy.
I imagine the only way Beane goes is new ownership. As far as Curt Young, he had a long run, I know he only lasted the one season in Boston but I imagine he’ll get another look as a pitching coach somewhere.
Mis-judged that one.
hey 0!
vince is getting excited i bet!
Reverse order cycle would be very special.
I really only know Vince from the complaints.
You say Andrea, I say Angela, we all say who gives a shit?
I want to give her the benefit of the doubt, but it’s pretty painful.
It’s like the sideline reporter in football…it’s unnecessary and without merit.
Unnecessary and without merit…this describes everything I’ve ever posted.
Good to see that Dad knows how to speak in cliche…I guess he watched Bull Durham before the game.
Before every game is the best way to take them one at a time and just try to help the team.
Phegley does Sonny no favors back there when he bounces one.
Chris Carter is like cotton candy…full of empty calories. He only has one skill but it’s one that is shinny.
And very sweet
so so sweet
certainly close enough to a strike to not be outrageous
hr next
A true Athletic.
The only difference between Mac & Cheese and vegan Mac & Cheese is taste.
The Oakland-Alameda Coliseum…a great quiet out of the way place to take a nap.
That sleeping guy should be the new A’s logo.
jesus comcast. this is an exciting game. stop showing 4 beer sun all day warriors fan
Ed has had enough!
theses a’s have maybe a dozen good ames in them this year. we are in the middle of one. let fosses fettishs fizzle
Four beers? That’s not even uncomfortably obnoxious over-loud fan territory for me. Dude needs practice.
to be fair, it was likely more. he was sleeping
Wait till we get 4 Pliny the Youngers into you at the tailgate.
For you, I can be obnoxious and over-loud.
Apparently our team is filled with nice young men. Maybe we should start drafting pricks.
in my business, judge’s can never handle gray
This legal based humor is brought to you by Legal Zoom. A better way to legal.
cut out the middle lawyer, that’s lglzm.com
(client of my startup, vwl.com)
The A’s seem to play better in white…racists.
fucking finally
I only wear personalized jerseys that look exactly like polo shirts.
gotta admit, sometimes i picture you in a polo helmet.
Only when I’m doing something dangerous like mountain climbing, cave diving, or catching a throw from Khris Davis.
and gardening?
look at all that solid brim.
Have to keep the sun out of my delicate blue eyes.
No Rickey though
This could get me to consider a ticket up to OAK. But they need some of my favorites:
-Bill Caudill in the button up with the A on the side
-Holtzman
-Eric Fox
i am happy sonny has traded in his nike glove in favor of rawlings
This game is too important to lose…bring in Josh Smith!
Our announcers talk more about the dangers of facing Chris Carter than they do facing Mike Trout.
Sonny, this is no way to pitch in front of a potential suitor.
Yonder showing how it’s done.
Oh god, whiffy is going to kill us
Could have been worse
Tonight’s Khris Davis throw is brought to you by nerf.
That was a sad throw.
Did Khris Davis’ throw even make it back to the infield without a bounce? I have never seen an arm this bad.
you gotta cut that 129 foot throw off
Ed…you’re the best.
Khris Davis would be fine as the DH on a bad baseball team.
i can’t stay mad at him
Do our coaches even work with Davis on his throws? His form is awful. He can’t even get it to the third baseman on the fly from shallow left field.
Doolittle with his appearance before the next trip to the DL.
When he’s right, he’s right.
Does Jose have any “vitamins” that might help Khris with this?
So, I guess we know what type of field the A’s can afford to renovate.
Trade Yonder Now!
A solo home run is worthy of Holy Toledo?
huh. i thought yes. but i guess no.
I think I saw Star Lord do that in a movie once.
You’d like to see Healy’s OBP be higher but I do love his aggressiveness at the plate.
He is swinging at everything this year, but when he hit it he hits it with intent.
Yep…love the power, good batting average, maybe as the years go along he’ll get a bit more selective. All in all though I enjoy his at bats more than any other Athletic this season.
didn’t k. thats good
Okay, now it’s up to the bullpen…no worries.
does bob know these are 9 inning games?
CATCH THE DAMN BALL.
Otherwise, we won’t get as much when we trade you.
wow, vince says sanchez is wearing tino martinez’s old number, not cano
Beware Bullpen: Flammable.
phew, jario cant turn a win inti a loss
LOL Gnats.
Fosse has no use for Viagra…a sacrifice bunt is all he needs.
i am ok with sacrificing rajai
We have a deck furniture in the pool weather situation. If I die at least I’ll die having seen Khris Davis play baseball.
I thought it was funny that Matt Holiday has a one team no trade list.
8 man bullpen and we really had no better option than Axford in the 8th?
Bob is more of a quantity over quality kind of fella.
I guess the bullpen guys want to show everyone that making the bullpen coach the pitching coach is the right decision.
The way this thing is going I’m fine if I lose power.
Doo got 3 outs, Madson 2, Axford 1, Coulombe …
I have live audio but the picture keeps going back to the 2nd inning. I’ve seen the Healy at bat about 30 times.
Tyler Clippard wears glasses…nerd.
I switched to the Evils broadcast…they do this odd thing were the audio and video lineup to what is actually happening on the field.
Nice hustle there by Joyce.
I was expecting the Trevor Plouffe memorial bases-loaded GIDP.
Oh boy, now we get to see if Jairo can get these guys out.
Can we just DFA Rajai already?
A player like Rajai should not be swinging for the fences on 0-2. I don’t understand the logic of this swing your ass off no matter the count philosophy. Even if I’m wrong about this (likely) I don’t enjoy watching it…now get off my damn lawn!
Casilla in because Bob has money on the Evils.
What’s with all the bugs…did they move the game to Cleveland?
Or to the Microsoft campus?
Okay, that made me laugh.
It’s disheartening to see how many good young players the Evils have.
It really is.
Is this just money talking, or are they really smarter?
I find the Yankees less hateable, and more interesting, right now than I have in many years. The retirement of Jeter was a big factor. They will undoubtedly return to full loathesomeness in very short order.
These bugs are getting crazy.
Just bring up the entire Nashville bullpen…they couldn’t be worse.
Their catcher just stole a base…their catcher.
so far every pitcher in the game has been eligible fir the win at some point*
* i know i am wrong, shut up. its a better joke
We get an Eligible-Fir tree every year for Christmas.
It’s a real team effort from the Dynamite Gang tonight.
THROW SOME (good) MOTHERFKIN’ STRIKES YOU ASSHOLES.
My only question is what does Angela/Andrea think about our bullpen performance tonight?
Well, we’re almost four hours in. I have to be up in five hours. I’m GRITTY, baby!
Can we just DFA Casilla already?
What’s the definition of insanity? Watching the A’s every night and expecting a different outcome.
Jed is swinging…mediocre in the field but he’s hitting.
They need to set things up for a Matt Chapman 2-out grand slam.
Or that more likely outcome.
Oof…not a good at bat for Chapie.
Just a bit overmatched, especially after getting the 1st outside pitch called a strike.
“Uncle.” Bed said.
Defensive indifference that takes away the double-play? Really?
Vogt, Joyce, Rajai due up.
I don’t get why, after getting Judge to 0-2, Hendriks started nibbling instead of trying to strike his ass out.
Remember when there used to be pie.
Yes?
Why yes. Yes, I do.
I guess unearned pie is pie nonetheless.
1-0 in the Matt Chapman era.
Sounds like I shoulda stayed up one more inning.
D’aww, he likes us. I wish we could keep him.
Let’s Go Oakland!
Oh no, a 4-run lead.
It is good to be back to sub-100% humidity. Bed can keep his Muggy. It is also nice to be in a place where people don’t drive like idiotic assholes; it’s just horrible in Miami.
Yeah, I will never live in a humid zone ever again, it’s just the worst.
As for drivers, I find myself fuming about sucky drivers everywhere. Every one on the road is a moron and/or asshole except me.
Hawaii was tolerable because of the trade winds (and did I ever HATE Kona weather), but yeah, humid climates just flat-out suck.
The Karate Kid Theme for Brugman
“You’re the Best”, or the actual theme? B/C “You’re the Best” would be an amazing selection…
You’re the Best it is
Incredible.
If there was one remaining pitcher I hoped could hold on to a 4-run lead, it was Manaea, based on recent performances. No such luck.
This review is taking way too fucking long.
if it were out on the fiekld it would stand
It seemed pretty clear that Pinder held the tag on while he was completely off the bag.
Maybe the ruling is that he pushed his arm off?
This time my perception is accurate:
i am trying to figure out what the difference is
at least some of those to holliday werte strikes
Yep
also to judge, i doubt they were more than 17 inches apart
It’s actually not cool that the Giants are so determined to get a better draft pick than us.
dear mlb. no more no names on back. its dumb
did bed come to his senses? no posts from him today
That was well hit.
cannot be mad at him
same
I hate him so goddamn much.
Kind of feel bad for Angela. It’s just not working for her.
Her title may be “sideline reporter” but her actual job is reading mid-inning promos. I assumed she was trying to get attention from ESPN and Fox but this job isn’t helping her in that way at all.
Defense!
where was the rbi triple?
bed? bed? smith is in
My Smithy senses were tingling…which means all my ear hairs were standing up.
Josh Smith in a one-run game in the 7th inning…this is not promising.
There has to be some other journeyman floating around in AAA who deserves a spot on the A’s 40 and 25 man rosters more than Josh Smith.
Chapmania!
Go Chapie!
And we will entrust this incipient victory to whatever is left in the bullpen. It might be time to try the Rosales For Closer plan.
That was cute how excited Healy was.
It’s one of the things I like about him.
He gives good hugs too.
out
Initial safe call in our favor, replay looked like dead tie.
Overturned.
Of course.
Hey great…Casilla is coming in.
are these the 2 worst umps behind the plate?
5 strikes maybe 6 with a check swing to judge.
walk on 6 pitches
The BrooksBaseball plot on that at-bat doesn’t agree with you. I think the television graphic is too generous to pitchers. They had a side shot of the pitch Casilla was most upset about, and it was clearly low, but NBCS-CA’s graphic showed it catching the bottom of the strike zone.
good info.
the yes graphic had strike 2 to chapman well outside
vince, its not 2008. i doubt anyone calls him “willie”
I never had any doubts.
Casilla > Eck…this is due mainly to the fact that Eck is in his 60’s.
When it looked like Casilla might be hurt, Bob had to be thinking, “Nobody is trading for him, and if I leave him out here to blow his arm out completely I won’t have to watch him anymore.” Well, maybe Bob isn’t that mean, but I sure am.
Chapman’s smooth handling of his first rambling Fosse question may be more impressive than his first hit.
i sure appreciate that
How great was his handling of a rambling Fosse question?
Apparently the Yankees suck and the A’s are fearsome.
Plouffe + cash for a PTBNL or cash
Great deal
If they got the Rays to take on ~$1 million of the money due Plouffe, as Slusser’s tweet implies, it’s an awesome deal from the budgetary point of view. PTBNL is probably late season AA roster fill as Nashville’s roster goes to Oakland and Midland’s goes to Nashville.
name the quote:
“gene tennace? what can i say all he did was hit home runs and get us dinner at francescos”
And we need to trade our Stanford guy before he gets hurt.
It’s official: Holliday is allergic to Oakland.
Jerry’s cover of “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue” was my favorite Dylan tune. I’ll be humming that one all afternoon.
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun
Crying like a fire in the sun
I always liked
The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense
Take what you have gathered from coincidence
Their best Dylan covers were Bobby’s, I always thought. Desolation Row, Watchtower, and Tom Thumb.
When I Paint My Masterpiece.
Jerry’s Visions of Johanna in his waning years was nice.
Didn’t Phil sing Tom Thumb’s Blues?
Yes, Phil sang that one. I was not a “Let Phil Sing” guy. As to Bob, Watchtower was excellent and Masterpiece was good, but I was indifferent to his other first set Dylan covers and I found his Desolation Row monotonous.
Jerry’s “Knockin on Heaven’s Door” was right up there with “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue”, and separately the Jerry Garcia Band did several good ones including an outstanding “Tangled Up in Blue”. The full band swapped verses on “Maggie’s Farm” and that was always great fun.
No runs is good, but needing 31 pitches to get through the top of the first is not good enough for an A’s starter given the state of the bullpen.
that was not the at bat that gets you to a contenders, jed
jesse jesse jesse
that was a good throw
no mr. singleton, the yankees have not made hahn work hard. he does it all himsekf
yonder? 3-0 tapper to 2nd?
Vogt swung 3-0 this series also (ended up walking on 3-2).
I don’t get it either.
Back to the K/HR offense.
k’s are getting them on base
em on yes!
Did Bob not realize he didn’t have to bat Rosales in the same spot Pinder was at?
He did a Find/Replace on the lineup card.
Ugh Rosie. Too bad the NYC gamblers got to Pinder before the game.
Adam “Flailing” Rosales.
I can imagine some situations where the other team gives 3 straight intentional walks to get to pitch to Rosales with the bases loaded.
Can we just DFA everyone called Davis already?
That was unforgivable.
dont tell bed about that one
In case he missed it …
http://m.mlb.com/video/v1508615483/nyyoak-yankees-nab-davis-after-dropped-popup/?game_pk=491123
Yeah at the least he needed to be pulled from the game.
I understand why, over the course of a 162-game, 650 PA season, some things occasionally get taken for granted. Some charity of the other players’ choosing just got an extremely nice contribution.
I’m okay with him not sprinting and ending up on second, but he really should be able to at least jog to first on a ball like that.
Healy! Dude can hit.
hopefully hahn can qualify for the win
yay
jessica hahn can really hadnle the judge
i hope lenscrafters was watching. that was a gooh hendriks innin
Indeed. I don’t believe there’s an actual meaningful difference in his ability to pitch in high/low leverage situations, but the SSS results have caused that perception.
josh smith up?
Carter struck out four times on 15 total pitches (3,5,3 and 4).
Not quite the Lawrie immaculate sombrero, but still impressive.
i’m listening…..
Bed, I do believe I’ll join you in watching some golf on this particular final round Sunday. Crowded atop the leaderboard, headed by a left-hander named Brian–no lefties and no Brians have ever won the Open. I’m still betting on Rickie Fowler though. Unusual to have this many guys way under par at a US Open, but I’ll take it. Also that par 3 9th hole is delightfully fiendish.
A look at the early action suggests the wind will present a nasty challenge today.
However BrYans (lefty and righty) have won plenty of US Opens
So apparently Curt Young was the problem.
We may never be able to definitively determine whether the Curt Young firing or the Matt Chapman callup was what propelled the 2017 A’s to their improbable World Series title.
who knew that trading madsen and calling up puk would pay off so handsomely
who knew that trading madsen and calling up puk would pay off so handsomely
That Mexico-Portugal game was quite entertaining.
Didn’t get to watch it, but I’m glad that Andre Ward was able to definitively beat Kovalev in their rematch. Many including me thought Ward didn’t deserve his decision victory in the first meeting.
Cotton ain’t fooling ’em.
Our best Chad since Bradford, surely.
But maybe ditch the sidearm from now on.
But Pennington!?!?
Isn’t it about time for us to give Gaudin another shot?
Khris Davis: still good at that one thing.
thanks chase
Safe
Maybe the A’s should start challenging calls which go in our favor. This is ridiculous.
the prostate cancer hook really bugs me. sure you can get die, but even if you are diagnosed, its super rare that its bad.
so many other causes would be better
Yeah – it feels like they just wanted a counterpoint to breast cancer and wouldn’t touch testicular.
LOL Giants
i am startig to get annoyed that they will have a better draft pick
madson for judge and castro?
I don’t know why they’d accept that deal, but sure.
Thanks, and go As.
Obviously we get them drunk and hooked on crack.
It took quite a while to find the Green and Gold Broom in the garage. It was way in back behind the snowblower, the shovels and the bags of driveway ice melter.
Let’s go Doo!
sean doolittle back to back..
et tu chad?
I consider the A’s and Rockies results this weekend a personal Father’s Day gift to me.
Ugh, seven of the next ten games are against the Astros?
4-0 in the chapman era
Sounds like a chance to cut their division lead in half!
A’s went 1-6 over those games… which might have exceeded my expectations
honestly, I was encouraged by the hahn game. I thought with league average defense, they are winning that game.
Guys, I’m in trouble.
So that’s where you’ve been…
(alternate response: HOLY CRAP ITS SAL!)
salb! Thought about you just yesterday when I heard Livermore lost power at 105°.
NOTICE ME! NOTICE ME!
Thanks, and go As.
I figured by now you were commuting from Turlock.
It’s even hotter there and it smells like ass
Thanks, and go As.
but GIANT TVs
all the cool kids are just setting up projectors onto the side of the house
Thanks, and go As.
We had been vacationing in Utah for the last week and returned to a 90-degree home. Turning on our AC apparently pushed the grid to its limit, as we lost power and sweated it out until 11 at night.
I was in alaska until Friday.
Came home to a SIXTY DEGREE increase in temperature.
Thanks, and go As.
I guess Alaska is colder than central Utah, huh?
yeah but it’s sunlight 18 hours a day
Thanks, and go As.
Sweden, midsummer, sunset around midnight. Weirdest jet lag I ever experienced.
Sweden, midsummer, sunset around midnight plus the US-Europe jet lag. I’m sure PTBNL can top this, but did he drag a toddler with him?
To Norway and back in 48 hours was a doozy.
San Francisco to Crete on 3 flights over 24 hours with a toddler was less than fun.
And Australia is always bizarre for the missing/double day … this fall the outbound flight will skip our wedding anniversary.
Oh wow hon, what a coincidence…next year tho?
I missed January 1 one year on a flight that left LA on Dec 31 and arrived in Sydney on Jan 2. So that whole year doesn’t count, right?
I was inside with AC on. Then went outside where it’s hot!
Well, poop. An infected knee for Matt Chapman, which apparently is a thing he has sometimes.
First two at-bats for Tampa Bay, as their DH (!!!) tonight:
they have a guy at third,. yeah?
3rd base is Plouffe’s best spot, though.
Not the position. The base.
Thanks, and go As.
so confused
Probably a more realistic comp.
i dr k this thread?
very much so
ahem
Kubota goes with the rare McCutchen/McReynolds comp
this is interesting…
