I don’t like the retractable roofs in general, except Safeco. Initial impression is favorable, definitely better than Milwaukee. Of course this is newer.
This was also coming direct from Tropicana Field, so Candlestick Park might have looked good tonight. The roof is a charcoal gray, not ivory colored, and doesn’t have stupid rings and catwalks and a circus tent appearance, so I forgot about the roof here, whereas in St. Pete you can’t get it out of your field of vision. The day game should be interesting, with the big windows.
The upper deck here is very high up, as there’s a big club and press level, but I think the upper deck is marked “Unexplored Territories” on the seating chart. It is closed for many games including tonight.
My credit doppelganger, who took out two loans in my name and opened up a couple of credit cards, claimed to live in Miami…I hope he/she got a painful case of the shingles.
The well-pitched Cotton start is a rare delicacy indeed, but once you have tasted of its exquisite flavors you will spend your life yearning for another chance to sample its delights.
So, since collapsing down the stretch and then losing the Wild Card game to the Royals the A’s have been an absolute dumpster fire. But, hey as long as Fisher can cash his revenue checks and Beane can give paid speeches to business groups it’s all good.
I don’t know if it’s doable or practical but perhaps the A’s should do what the Angels did and just do a massive revamp of the Coliseum like the Anaheim did with the Big A. With the Las Vegas Football team leaving it might be something to consider.
Remember everybody…when we have our Free Kraut Cabinet meeting for the media we all need to say how much of a blessing it is to be working for nevermoor.
That’s a good plan…I never travel for KU football due to the fact that no one in the history of college athletics has traveled for KU football. We don’t even travel to home games.
“Ray Fosse” is actually his long-running improv character. He started out trying to get Lorne Michaels’ attention but now he’s just “yes, and”ing Glen’s bits.
when arianna huffington was running for gov, SLF was a reporter for metro silicon valley in San Jose, she interviewed huffington and she gave slf the weakest fish handshake SLF ever encountered. It still gives SLF chills when she hears her name
I just had this recollection of a Comedy Central show from the 90s where she and Al Franken would be doing political commentary shtick while in their pajamas in a big bed. Did I imagine that?
And to think I missed it all for 3 hours on the tarmac at Dulles and 6 hours in the air while the 300lb man in the seat next to me tried to occupy my seat too.
Get Kaval in here. The beer selection is pathetic. RF “Brewhouse” is “closed for a private party”. You can buy a beer in the Clevelander, but no taking drinks out of the Clevelander even though you are returning to the main concourse. I did find ONE Lagunitas IPA tap plus a couple Goose Island, but otherwise it’s a festival of Bud Light and Corona Light.
Has Healy started 5 of the 6 on the trip at 3B? It isn’t Bob’s job to justify Beane and Forst wasting $5m on Plouffe. He isn’t being used so DFA his ass now.
A’s have scored first in the last 5 games. I would not be surprised if it is > 50% on the season. (Does any site have that stat?)
On the pitching side, it’s probably a combination of some young starters who struggle getting through the order multiple times and a bad bullpen. But it also seems like the offense has failed to take advantage of opportunities to open up bigger leads in a lot of games.
It’s time to bring up Chapman. I don’t think there’s going to be any major improvement wrt to his Ks at AAA so you may as well see if he can survive with them at the major league level.
The nightly focus is still a win or a loss, but that’s meaningless in the big picture now and for the rest of the season. In the next 5-6 weeks the most important thing is the trade value of the tradeable assets, mainly Gray, Alonso and Lowrie. Somehow keeping Lowrie productive but also healthy is of prime importance. And then, for the rest of this season and through 2018, it will be sorting through the young players and figuring out who can be a contributor on a 2019 contender and who belongs in the trash bin; as to position players that started initially with Healy last year and is accelerating with Pinder, Brugman and now Chapman.
So, where does a train go when it’s already off the rails? Careening down an embankment until it settles into the bank below, wheels up?
What then happens to the carcass of the once-powerful locomotive? Can it get buried in the silt deep enough that nobody can see it anymore, or care to salvage it?
Did you by chance, I don’t know, get hired recently by a baseball team? Because if not, you should probably be a little careful because you may have been hacked. I’m not saying you shouldn’t share the best moves and all, but like bank account information, social security stuff, just be careful.
I’m glad to see the A’s making some moves but I do have to wonder…what does Josh Smith have to do to be cut? I guess Bob has to have his 8 man bullpen no matter what…I hope you’re next, Bob.
I hope the A’s pull the entire band-aid off over the next few weeks. Either by trade, whacking, or whatever let’s get rid of the veterans, embrace the suck, and actually commit to building a team.
That was not a great time to balk.
I can’t believe it was the other team that did that.
I did make first pitch, but good grief what a traffic nightmare. No wonder they don’t draw.
On TV that park looks ugly as hell…what’s it like in person?
I don’t like the retractable roofs in general, except Safeco. Initial impression is favorable, definitely better than Milwaukee. Of course this is newer.
It looks tacky on TV…it’s hard to get a feel for a ballpark on TV.
A Miami ballpark should look tacky.
I hope I don’t see The Thing go off, but I undoubtedly will.
Welp
This was also coming direct from Tropicana Field, so Candlestick Park might have looked good tonight. It’s always great to see a great rivalry like A’s vs Marlins be renewed.
The thread title is punny.
You’re god damn right I’ve eaten pita bread…and don’t ever ask me about something like that again.
You falafel the wagon?
Oh…that one was glorious.
Just refuse to answer because of like executive privilege or something.
I just use my white male privilege…it’s never let me down.
“In accordance with longstanding department policy….go fuck yourself, senator.”
did you read it, yes or no?
blah blah blah blah blah blah….
did you read it before you came here?
blah blah blah blah blah blah….
yes or no
LEMME FINISH!! blah blah blah blah….
Yes or no?
-the chair ill remind the nappy headed “member” to let the gentleman finish and by the way, darkie, you have no more time.
See, you’re starting to sympathize with her already.
another reason to hate trump and his “people”
I’m so bad at reading I bought a book called Hooked on Tonics.
Thank you, you’ve been a great crowd…make sure to tip your waitress.
Is Cotton going to pitch in the Home Run Derby?
I’m a vegan, I’ve started doing yoga…what’s next? Am I going to start voting for Democrats?
I only wear teal and orange together when I’m trying to impress.
I’ve never seen Cotton pitch well.
The well-pitched Cotton start is a rare delicacy indeed, but once you have tasted of its exquisite flavors you will spend your life yearning for another chance to sample its delights.
Healy and Cotton were the two players I was excited about coming into the season…Healy has been fun, with the bat, but Cotton has been a bust so far.
I need some Listerine, please.
The look, the feel of Cotton…The gopher ball of our lives.
Is Josh Smith warming up yet?
Actually yes
Called it!
So, since collapsing down the stretch and then losing the Wild Card game to the Royals the A’s have been an absolute dumpster fire. But, hey as long as Fisher can cash his revenue checks and Beane can give paid speeches to business groups it’s all good.
Just wait until they can’t sign anyone because of all the ballpark debt.
I don’t know if it’s doable or practical but perhaps the A’s should do what the Angels did and just do a massive revamp of the Coliseum like the Anaheim did with the Big A. With the Las Vegas Football team leaving it might be something to consider.
I hope Soaker is enjoying the other parts of his trip because the baseball has been terrible.
Those bobblheads reminded me that yes…Mike Piazza did play for the A’s.
Remember everybody…when we have our Free Kraut Cabinet meeting for the media we all need to say how much of a blessing it is to be working for nevermoor.
Vince’s explanation for why the A’s have such a bad road record: confidence.
I think it’s because they aren’t GRITTY enough!
@ Bed:. Never rely on on-field success for a good trip. Same with Cal football.
That’s a good plan…I never travel for KU football due to the fact that no one in the history of college athletics has traveled for KU football. We don’t even travel to home games.
Those bobbleheads reminded me that yes…I did once eat pita bread.
Mattingly has never been the same without the stache
Fosse doing improv…
“Ray Fosse” is actually his long-running improv character. He started out trying to get Lorne Michaels’ attention but now he’s just “yes, and”ing Glen’s bits.
I’d take Ray on Weekend Update over Colin Jost.
I’d take him there, or on any other show I don’t watch.
Ray Fosse starring in a revenge thriller where he hunts down Pete Rose and runs his ass over. Clipped Roses coming this Fall to CBS.
OK, I might watch that.
I know…I actually think that might be a fun show.
How great is that show?
Whatever PED’s Alonso is using will hopefully last until the trade deadline.
It’s time for a change…think Speedy Oil Change…and get a divorce and become a rodeo clown.
2 on, no out…boy, I’m so excited that I might turn on Netflix.
Hell of an at bat by Pinder there. Did his bat even move?
Well, that wasn’t a strike but it was close enough where Joyce should have swung at it.
Apparently National League Baseball is as complicated as quantum physics.
2 on, no out…and didn’t even get anybody to third base.
Glen and Ray have been wonderfully random tonight…I feel like this broadcast is just for me.
Is Josh Smith getting paid by the hour?
looooooooooooooool
when arianna huffington was running for gov, SLF was a reporter for metro silicon valley in San Jose, she interviewed huffington and she gave slf the weakest fish handshake SLF ever encountered. It still gives SLF chills when she hears her name
I have never understood the appeal of Arianna Huffington.
I just had this recollection of a Comedy Central show from the 90s where she and Al Franken would be doing political commentary shtick while in their pajamas in a big bed. Did I imagine that?
I remember that too…I can’t recall which show it was on though.
she was hilarious at the 1996 conventions with Al franken, or was it 92?
Are we talking about the same thing?
i think we are.
strange bedfellows
Smith didn’t cover first base? Cut him…right now. This Little League bullshit is getting old.
Don’t send him down either…remove him from the organization.
I hope he is some alligator’s breakfast.
This team is so lifeless and without direction he’ll probably be put into the starting rotation.
My dude is not good enough to pull that shit and stay in the big leagues, that’s for sure.
gosset’s spot, yeah?
I assume Olson is headed back down, since they are not using him anyway.
Yep…gotta keep the 28 man bullpen.
Is Lane Kiffin coaching this team? They are so fucking sloppy.
Some players need to go and a coach or two needs to be fired…it’s time to shake this shit up.
What…all those switches in a 7 run game?
This is why I don’t like Melvin…give Olson a shot there…you know Plouffe ain’t gonna do shit.
I agree with bed.
Let Olson have an AB against a lefty in the 8th inning of an 8-1 game. The world will not end.
I guess I’m still an A’s fan because they’re pissing me off.
If Ichiro had played his entire career here he would have had a real shot at the hit record.
Is Ichiro going to the Hall of Fame…um, fuck yes he is.
8 solo home runs and we got this thing…well, at least until the closer with two names blows it.
The balk was exciting, sort of downhill from there though.
Great win, folks…hemlock for everyone!
Well that was shitty.
And to think I missed it all for 3 hours on the tarmac at Dulles and 6 hours in the air while the 300lb man in the seat next to me tried to occupy my seat too.

He’s fine as a benchwarmer until Semien is healthy or Chapman is ready. At that point, set him free and pay him for his troubles.
Generously, 3000 butts in the seats, plus some kids groups in right field.
You should try to talk your way into an FSU to those empty seats behind home. You’ve traveled so far…
Cool baserunning, Matt
I don’t know if that pitch works in AAA, but you throw it in the big leagues and it will be rattling around on The Thing in a hurry.
Joyce tries to wreck Alonso’s trade value too.
Can Joyce at least not try to kill our All Star?
A’s pitchers trying to kill The Thing due to overuse.
Nobody blows 3 and 4 run leads quicker than this planeload of suck.
They went through a long stretch where they did NOT score first (no OBP in 1 and 2 spots in batting order).
Per today’s game notes on the media site:
A’s score first: 28 times (A’s are 13-15).
Opp. scores first: 37 times (A’s are 14-23)
Thanks. Looks like my perception of this was off.
It’s time to bring up Chapman. I don’t think there’s going to be any major improvement wrt to his Ks at AAA so you may as well see if he can survive with them at the major league level.
So tired of this atrocious defense.
lenscrafters gets results
The front office is listening to lenscrafters again
[starts writing “it’s time to trade for Mike Trout” comment]
Gossett may get to carry that 1.000 batting average with him forever.
I thought I could pick out Gossett’s family in the small crowd, but nobody visibly took the blame for that.
You still watching this dreck, Soaker?
This road trip could end with a bang here, but a pathetic whimper seems just a bit more likely.
So you’re not getting laid and are now going to cry about it? For shame, Soaker. For shame.
I will forever treasure the memories from this incredible trip with this magical team.
It’s drinking time, FKers.
hey, at least the road series winning streak is still going
Can we activate Luca Brasi for the Yankees series?
1-5 road trip…well, at least it gets easier with the Evils and the Astros coming to town.

Spot on.
they weren’t here last time…
so i’m guessing bandwagon fans.
honestly tried to put a height tag on that.remembered google photos embeds size in the URL.
I generally find Hank Shulman’s cutesy overwriting a bit much for game stories, but I’ll make an exception for today’s lead:
Or does it explode.
I want him to do Yeats next, and then maybe some Cormac McCarthy during the dog days.
Rickey is riding in a float with Too $hort, E40, and Barry Bonds.
Oakland looks glorious once again in these parade shots.
It’s all happening.
And just like that, Trevor’s time with the A’s goes plouffe.
Our short, regional nightmare is over?
heh
Happy birthday Trevor.
Did you by chance, I don’t know, get hired recently by a baseball team? Because if not, you should probably be a little careful because you may have been hacked. I’m not saying you shouldn’t share the best moves and all, but like bank account information, social security stuff, just be careful.
Heh, Zach Neal and Josh Smith are still on the team so definitely I’m not part of the A’s organization.
seconded
Aw, now I’m a little sad.
why? he wore the best jacket. it had the number om the sleave
Settling all family business today
i hope matt joyce has fasTrack. would not want to see him in a line up at the toll booths
edit: fixed forgotten “not”
Rajai is still on the roster, but it’s only mid-afternoon.
Do they still want us to vote for Plouffe
“Plouffe would have won!”
Now I want him to win. So that he could show up without a jersey.
*eyes emoji*
I’m glad to see the A’s making some moves but I do have to wonder…what does Josh Smith have to do to be cut? I guess Bob has to have his 8 man bullpen no matter what…I hope you’re next, Bob.
