There is no other tourist destination on earth where Canadians are so dominant.
Manaea/Gallardo Triggs/De Jong Hahn/Bergman
Manaea having trouble finding the strike zone in Game 1, and not getting any help from the ump.
It’s disturbing to me how unimpressive the A’s young starters have been.
WTF are those, worms, shrimp, caterpillers?
I had the misfortune to catch the radio broadcast on the way home tonight and they were flogging that one to death.
Wait…is Glen allowed to talk about wearing sunglasses at night when Ray isn’t in the booth with him?
So, if the A’s lose they’ll be 10 games out of 1st place by the middle of May…that’s actually impressive in its own way.
I see Nelson Cruz is still effective at PED use.
Well, no one is here so this feels like a good time to talk about the pros and cons of a macrobiotic diet.
The Twin Peaks’ revival chances of being good are between 0 and that’s a damn fine cup of coffee.
It’s really hard to predict. Lynch with the modern tools and license of TV serial drama could be really really good. Or, it could all be byzantine self-indulgence. I hope it’s engaging, I sure did love the original, at least the first half or so of it.
I was like a sophomore in High School when it was last on. I remember enjoying the first season, and being in love with Sherilyn Fenn, but losing interest pretty quickly that second season. I honestly have no memory of where the plot went.
Off the rails.
I remember who the killer was but not much after that.
That was the problem, Lynch and Frost gave in to network pressure amid falling ratings to reveal the killer about six weeks into the second season, and it turned out (amid Lynch losing interest and Fox not renewing for S3) that they didn’t have any fucking clue where they were going after that.
Okay, thanks for the backstory…I might watch it out of curiosity. I really can’t remember the last Lynch thing I liked…it’s been awhile.
I’m VERY excited.
Last two episodes tonight. I almost gave up after first 3-4 or so, hard to follow, but about halfway through it got more watchable for me. Lynch is just a great filmmaker, so even the indecipherable hours are still fun to watch. Looking forward to the conclusion, however inconclusive it may be.
I bailed after the first couple, then have read that Ep 8 was amazing and was tempted to re-start. Even saw that New Parkway was showing final episode. Did it satisfy overall?
Yes, satisfied in the sense it’s been worth the work needed for 18+ hours. But it’s work for sure. And not always satisfying (so far) if one requires cogent explanations .
I have been loving it. Psyched for tonight, but also a little sad that it will be over.
I finally watched the first episode last night now that I have Comcast and could get the first 2 free. Jeez. I don’t think it’s for me. I just can’t work that hard to be entertained.
What I liked about the first one was the atmosphere, the interesting characters, and the weird soap opera quality. I got none of that with this reboot.
So tired of Healy hanging his head after every poor at bat. Work on your fking plate discipline.

You can follow me @mike_pence…it’s mostly bible quotes and pictures of hot guys.
By July I’m hoping I’ll finally be able to tell the difference between Trevor Plouffe and Matt Joyce.
Holy crap – Altavilla is making Manaea’s control look good.
OK – my bad for jinxing it.
Tuffy Gosewich? Wait…what? How in the world have I never heard of Tuffy Gosewich? Baseball needs more names like Tuffy Gosewich.
My midnight snaking options are not up to snuff…I will not be leaving a tip.
I think I’ve only seen Khris Davis hit solo homers or make an out.
Funny, we had a guy with this same odd name, but ours sucked. Bizarro Rzepcynski.
There he is.
I guess each batter gets their own pitcher.
The Mariners have NINE relievers?!?!
Wow…if that thing had not bounced into the stands that might have had a chance for an inside the park homer.
Is Rosales really that much faster than Healy? It sometimes seems to me that Melvin makes moves just to make moves.
Pinder goes deep…unfortunately it was at short stop.
I still think Nelson Cruz’s best years were with the St. Louis Browns.
…and…we’re living up to andeux’s title.
The Mariners have a lot of guys who like they play bass for The Allman Brothers.
Vogt has a GUN for an arm. Said no one ever.
hi bed. i got nothing on the game. so happy you’re here though.
good night, jennibed!
Hi AV…I got nothing on the game either…I just have a whole lot of it.
That’s pretty cool.
Like most people I use YouTube primarily to watch the opening credits of The Fall Guy.
Here’s what I know about Edwin Diaz…
I would love to know the ratings for A’s Post Game Live.
This is a great game if you’re into walks.
Chicks dig the slow trot.
It was cold today so I was home by 3 p.m. to take in a doubleheader.
Tampa Bay at Cleveland: 15 BB, 21 K. Oakland at Seattle: 15 BB, 21 K.
In other words, that was your fault.
I was thinking about this in relation to Bed’s comment a while back that “every batter is Rob Deer now” along with a comment the Rays announcers made during that game, that 40% of the Rays’ plate appearances this year have resulted in one of the “three true outcomes”. That sounded awfully high, but it’s correct. The Rays lead MLB in walks received by a little, they are running away with the team strikeouts crown and they’re in the top 10 in home runs. A few TTO percentages, including some from the Deer era:
Jack Cust career: 53.00 Rob Deer career: 49.06 2017 Rays: 40.21 2017 A’s: 35.78 2017 MLB: 33.46 1988 A’s: 26.15 1988 MLB: 24.80
So far in 2017 home runs per team per game are at 1.19 (3.11% of PA) which is the highest in history, exceeding even the steroid era. Strikeouts per team per game are 8.22 (21.48%); that number had never even touched 7 until 2010. BB per team per game are 3.39 (8.87%), a number that does not appear to have changed much over the last 50 years.
Home runs are up so much that Eric Sogard has two in nine plate appearances.
Yonder Alonso 2016: 24% Yonder Alonso 2017: 45%
Career: 14.8% Highest previous: 16.3% in 2012 This year: 22.3%
But that won’t cost him a penny in free agency.
Edit: I ignored 98 PA with the Reds in 2011, but he was also way above average there in K rate (21.4%) and HR (5 in the 98 PA). The Padres must have told him to quit trying to hit for power.
Why would it?
(Also worth noting that despite the overall increase in K’s and HR’s, with RISP he is 13/28 with 7 BB and only 3 K, so not living up to the unclutch-TTO-guy stereotype).
Some good info there, Soaker. It’s interesting to see how the game has changed. I’m not smart enough to now if it’s for the better but I know I don’t find it as enjoyable to watch…there’s just less action.
To highlight the point, the Rays out-Custed Cust tonight with an impressive single-game TTO of 61.5% (39 PA, 5 HR, 3 BB, 16 K). They win 6-4 on four solo HR and one two-run HR.
I didn’t think much of that at bat.
…and Rosales is up instead of Healy.
Melvin is a checkers player…I prefer chess players.
You have to swing at that.
Yeah, unforgivable. That’s why he’s 2-33 with the bases loaded. Sigh.
I’ll give him half the blame and the other half to Melvin for not looking more than one move ahead and having Rosales pinch run earlier in the game.
Mulder keeps getting better at this.
Announcing, not hitting with the bases loaded.
I agree…I like what Mark’s doing in the booth.
I think he’s been the best of the player fill-ins.
5-14 on the road…that’s like not good and stuff.
Suck-ass ending to a suck-ass game. The positive was that they stuck with Manaea after that awful beginning and he came out of it with something decent to take to his next start.
At least we had some drama at the end.
Did we, Bed? Did we?
And just remember folks…I might fall from a tall building, I might roll a brand new car, Cause’ I’m the unknown poster that thinks Tuffy Gosewich is going to be a star.
I thought Tuffy played for the Reno Aces forever, but looking it up he only played for them in 2013 and 2016. The name seems to have stuck with me though for some reason.
About time for the daily Trumptastrophe, and as if on cue … “Notes made by former FBI Director Comey say Trump pressured him to end Flynn probe”
But… but… but… all of his accomplishments!
I think he’s discovering that pissing off all the spooks is a bad idea.
I’m predicting that he’ll come up with some absurd reason to cancel his middle east trip. But if he doesn’t, the media in the foreign press is going to tear him apart. It’ll be an embarrassing daily shit show. And especially when he reaches Israel. He may not make it back alive.
Deep Throat, after all, was an FBI guy.
I’m still disappointed that Deep Throat wasn’t Alexander Haig.
He was in control, though.
lmao it was so obvious that was coming.
He has very good reason not accept the invite to Congress until it’s public.
Say what you will about Comey, but my man knows how to defend his own reputation for righteousness against the politicians.

Honestly that’s understating things.

That was well hit
Just when I was starting to think, “they’d better not get shut down for 6 innings by Chase FKing de Jong”.
Get well soon, Marcus.
Catchers are allowed to do that?!
If not, Phegley is in big trouble.
It’s very wise of Lowrie, or really anybody, to get the hell out of Canha’s way on a short fly ball.
That New! Cheese Omelette McMuffin looks so pathetic. That’s what they’re counting on to bring me in to the store?
I’m intrigued…Egg McMuffin’s are my secret shame.
It looks like a folded egg and a not-melted slice of American cheese-like substance on an English muffin. Sad!
Most bagel places have a decent meat, egg and cheese sandwich and I also like the pressed sandwiches on ciabatta you get at places like Panera. Those fast food breakfasts never get it done for me.
They’re also like 8 bucks.
Thanks, and go As.
Hmm…I still need to investigate further. I live in Arkansas…bagels are illegal here…too ethnic.
They are the best.
Eggamuffins FKin’ rule.
If someone can explain the bunt I will mow your lawn.
I thought Nelson Cruz gave a nice speech on the day Lou Gehrig retired.
I’ve always thought the Mariners uniforms are politely dull.
They are as generic as they come.
They used to be so cool before the pewter and teal craze hit.
It feels like still using teal after about 1998 is a fashion faux pas.
The Sharks may be an exception. They were born in the teal.
I don’t speak hockey so I will take your word on this one.
Their powder blues in the early 80s were classics of the genre, much more so than the Royals.
I always liked those Royals jerseys.
My George Brett bobblehead is dressed in a powder blue, but the trim is white-only. The Mariners had some navy blue and gold mixed in for a very nice (by those standards) bold look.
I remember those Mariners jerseys but they didn’t stick in my memory like the Royals jerseys did. When I think powder blue I think Royals, North Carolina, and the old Kings jerseys when they first moved to Sacramento.
I’m just assuming that Taylor Motter has a twin brother named Tyler Motter.

Relationships with parents can be a tricky thing.
The last 20 years, after she divorced the second always-drunk guy, were pretty distant.
I’ve been lucky with my parents and I’m very appreciative of that fact.
Do you think there will ever be players like Tony Gwynn or Wade Boggs again?
Altuve and Ichiro?
Yeah, I guess I should have thrown Ichiro in there. Altuve is a heck of a ballplayer.
I haven’t checked my phone in about an hour…has Trump been impeached yet?
What’s the exchange rated between concerneds and impeachments?

Glad to hear he’s having a rough night…I hope it continues.
President Pence works well with McConnell and Ryan and gets a lot done that we would rather not happen.
I feel that Trump is a threat to our democracy. He must go.
This is the thing.
Oh, I agree, I think I have 25-30 decent years left, most of which might not exist at all if Trump is the final US president. The stuff Pence does can largely be fixed.
Pence is not a good guy, especially when it comes to civil rights, but you’re right there’s nothing he’ll do that can’t be fixed.
trump leaving in a cloud with throw the GOP into turmoil. the freedom caucus will isolate. there is no path to 218/60. Pence will be in damage control.
i am not worried
Never underestimate the GOP collective and their willingness to abuse their power. The same issues they have today (namely having two or three parties somehow wrapped under the GOP umbrella) will exist regardless. They’ll simply trade one rubber stamper for another. Probably with one who will stamp without causing as much of a sideshow controversy.
ok, so the lessonof the trump presidency is never be away from a computer for more than 2 hours.
Jesus Christ, I was chaparoning a field trip MOnday and Tuesday, in court all day wednedsay and I have no idea where to start reading.
The president’s appetite for chaos, coupled with his disregard for the self-protective conventions of the presidency, has left his staff confused and squabbling. And his own mood, according to two advisers who spoke on the condition of anonymity, has become sour and dark, and he has turned against most of his aides — even his son-in-law, Jared Kushner — describing them in a fury as “incompetent,” according to one of those advisers.
136 points for the Warriors…my goodness that team is amazing.
They were devastating tonight.
Without Leonard the Spurs are dead in the water.
The Washington Post and The New York Times are just killing it right now. Actual journalists doing actual journalism.
About FKing time.
Nelson Cruz went 11-36 with 3 home runs vs Walter Johnson.
This inning is the Overton Window.
If I actually cared about this shit this bullpen would give me ulcers.
Never a Dull moment.
This bullpen + this defense = tummy trouble
Boy was that prescient.
Catch. The. Ball.
You cannot play Healy at third base. I have high hopes for him as a hitter but he is beyond terrible at third.
Last year I didn’t think he was this bad. But I mostly tuned out in August and September so perhaps I just didn’t notice, and maybe that’s why Beane and Forst thought the Plouffe signing was so necessary.
I still don’t like putting a young player at DH everyday but until they trade Alonso that seems like the only move with Healy.
Healy kills LHP so there’s definitely something worth working on. Hell, if they had Healy they would not have blown $30M on Billy Butler.
I’m hoping he’s a building block. One of our big minor league prospects is a third baseman right? Healy was never going to be the long term answer at third anyways.
Matt Chapman is a supposedly outstanding defensive third baseman with power who may or may not be able to hit the ball with his bat in the big leagues.
I have it on good authority that hitting the ball with your bat is a desirable outcome.
I vaguely recall that principle from my days as a sportsball fan in the early part of this millenium.
He seemed better because he was replacing Valencia.
Let’s see if we can get all of Team Dynamite into a single inning.
I think he’s safe.
I guess, though I didn’t think any angle was really conclusive.
One of those deals where I thought he had to be safe based on inferences from the imperfect angles.
Sometimes the home team’s telecast has slightly better angles, too, which the A’s telecast couldn’t readily access. New York, and the “video coordinators” in the on-site room, can see all available feeds.
Not very good camera work there.
Nelson Cruz fought alongside Ted Williams as a fighter pilot in the Korean War.
Son. Of. A. Bitch.
Yep, once again we are great business for home run fireworks contractors all over our great land.
I’m starting to think I picked a bad Summer to get back into A’s baseball.
2019 is a possibility. Better chance in 2020.
With my passion for the Raiders fading I’m looking to fall in love with some team…the A’s are my first choice.
Actually my passion for the Raiders isn’t just fading…we’re getting divorced it’s just going to take me a little while.
Might I suggest soccer.
MLS is boring but at least the Quakes are owned by Fisher, so there’s an Oakland A’s tie in!
I’ve tried to get into soccer…it just isn’t for me.
Bad call. I’d suggest you bandwagon the Warriors. You’re in for a fun week or two.
Valencia is annoying, man.
Glen seems like a pretty even tempered guy and even he was giving Valencia the business.
I get the sense that he was not very well liked around the organization even if he did punch Billy Butler in his fat head.
I already forgot that Butler played for the A’s…I really didn’t watch much baseball the last couple of years.
It was a lot like this year, except we also had a couple players who were obviously assholes.
I’m not sure I watched an entire baseball game last year. Last year was probably the busiest year of my life.
Sort of like how all the Giants hated Jeff Kent but still appreciated how he challenged Bonds. I think economists call this the Bigger Dickhead theory.
In the future can our dickheads also be Hall of Famers?
Down by a run, top of the 9th, and we’ve got our .205 and .195 hitters coming up …
But wait! A cunning substitution replaces the .205 hitter with a .206 hitter!
And that’s why I’m just a cosmologist.
Yeah but your hair and nails always look great though.
I think I mentioned before, the Florida road trip is on the agenda. Bad news is, the A’s are 5-14 on the road with this one pending. The good news would be that the Marlins are an MLB-worst 6-13 at home.
That sounds like a fun trip.
A traditional doubleheader, and no concerns about rainouts. I’ll be taking the beach towel as well though mid-June becomes dubious for that.
I might try and find my way to a game when the family is in Hawaii before I head over.
Still some front row seat games available.
I’d like to go to a park I’ve never been to. I’m going to take a look at what’s available in June.
Or come out and walk 18 holes with Mark Mulder (July 14 will be my date for that this year).
This has been a fun game.
I hope this pleasurable feeling lasts through the evening, and not just for a few minutes.
The free agent reliever acquisitions made by Freane over since 2014 are really indefensible.
Oh…Khris…that was a bad swing.
Nice catch by the old man in the fez.
The six scariest words in the English language…Closer Santiago Casilla is warming up.
Why did they intentionally walk Plouffe?
BOOM PART 2!!
Canha hit it? Yes he can.
Canha is pretty much the outfield version of Rosales. It’s fun when he does something good like that.
He’s had a nice game at the plate.
So, again…why did they walk Plouffe?
They thought he was Healy?
I guess…odd choice.
Probably because Canha has not hit lefties well (in his short career). But still … Trevor Plouffe.
If it’s no longer a save, can it still be a blown save?
We may find out.
Damn…tough night for Dyson.
People very excited about that uncontested stolen base.
Safe to say Healy does not make that play.
Good win…snow cones for everybody!
Spoilers … Gameday still has 2 on and 1 out.
Now it has decided a run scored, and then thrown up the rest of the inning in one fell swoop.
We win…and Jon Snow comes back to life, Bruce Willis has been dead the entire movie, and Rosebud is a sled.
I figure by tomorrow’s game that Trump will have sacrificed Sean Spicer in a ritualistic killing to satisfy an angry Zeus while also invading Canada. God Bless America!
I’m going to assume that the plan here is to beat on Comey and try to turn him into J. Edgar Hoover, given that Jason Chaffetz chairs this committee. On the other hand, maybe they are more willing to get tough on Trump while he and his posse are out of the country.

Lieberman for the FBI … ugh.
Leaking plus the fascist Milwaukee sheriff to DHS news actually seem like efforts to divert Democratic outrage somewhere else for a day. And I am outraged.
Sounds like he’ll be the pick. Setting aside his odious personal and political qualities, I can’t imagine him being any good at the job. But he’s boys with John McCain and Lindsay Graham, so there you go.
Stymied by Trump’s pick for outside counsel.
I wouldn’t not be the least bit surprised if Donald purposefully made him front runner precisely because he wanted that insider between the investigation and his defense.
it’s like, in DC, the workday begins at 6pm.
does special counsel = special prosecutor?
and do i have to wait for tomorrow’s podcasts to find out??
I was trying to figure that out. I think that he’s a special counsel for now because they are investigating to decide *whether* to prosecute. My main question is whether this guy has subpoena power — he has to, or else it’s toothless.
That’s my reading too. He has the authority to prosecute if he finds evidence of a crime, but he’s not limited to trying to amass evidence for a prosecution.
This is bad bad bad for Trump.
Just based on the wikipedia page for him it seems like a good fit for the job.
He’s pretty much perfect.
Although this becomes a problem if the threads lead to Jared or Ivanka.

The official role is “Special Prosecutor” so I’m assuming it comes with subpoena power and access to all evidence gathered.
Yes, subpoeana power. But he can be fired by DOJ folks (who in turn can be fired by Trump).
So, who in the Trump administration will play the role of Elliot Richardson? Consciences are kinda absent in that crew.
Yes. They all sort of muddle the role between prosecutor, investigator, counsel, etc.
This one too
And this and this
The combination of these two stories is fairly devastating.
“No, it’s not a question of raising a red flag,” Spicer said at a news briefing. “It is not up to – nor is it appropriate, nor is it legal – for the government to start going into private citizens seeking advice and telling them what they have to register or not.
Isn’t that exactly what the government is supposed to do when private citizens come to it for advice? And at the time, they weren’t exactly representatives of the government yet, merely a transition team so even if it were true, they’re still full of shit.
Not sure how Pence wouldn’t be caught up in all of this given he was the lead on he transition team.

I smell something foul… I think it may be the load of bullshit.
The quotes here from an anonymous source trying to keep Pence clean on this by tossing the White House Counsel overboard are hilariously unconvincing and sweaty.
Assuming its true, so what? You are in charge. your “I’m incompetent as a leader” excuse is just as bad.

why is it datelined kiev?
Presumably the recording the Post just heard was made by someone in the Ukrainian Prime Minister’s delegation, so maybe they had to be in Kiev to hear it.
This is the biggest mystery. The conversation happened in the US Capitol. It would be remarkable if the Ukranian delegation somehow managed to record them.

“Melvin says Trump is back in the Oval Office because they’re riding the hot hand. He thinks Trump looks ever more comfortable in the Oval Office.”
I have seen the A’s give up an inside-the-park grand slam (at the Coliseum, with Luis Polonia botching the play) so this won’t be the first one.
Damn near had one right there, through no fault of Canha.
There’s a show now where Lady Mary from Downton Abbey plays some sort of femme fatale with an American accent and I am weirded out by it.
If anyone was hoping the NBA Eastern Conference Finals would be competitive, I have bad news.
Swap “playoffs” for “Eastern Conference Finals” and it still works.
Nice play Danny
It’s beyond all reason how bad this team is at fielding baseballs.
“We’re searching for nirvana around here,” Pinder confirmed, nodding enthusiastically.
“A little bit of dual cleansing going on right now.”

A fan of Chuck Woolery.
It’s almost like Canha doesn’t know what the FK he’s doing out there.
“No person in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly” Bed said to the graduating kindergarten class of Golden Empire Elementary.
Where in the hell did he come up with “surety”?
He uses the best words in the greatest way is what many people are saying.
You can’t expect him to be able to treat the American language with respect after spending 120 days being treated exactly as he deserves. It’s not like he spent 8 years filled with racism and complete obstruction.
A’s are at an astonishing -138.2 DRAA over the last 3 years. Next closest team is only at -85. And this assortment of horrendous fielders have only managed to be 25th in runs scored over the same time frame.
Yeah, if you can rake then defense can be less important but if you can’t play defense or get on base then…what’s the point?
Thank goodness for the defensive ineptitude of Joyce and Canha; otherwise, has there been a single interesting thing tonight?
The strike zone has been pretty creative.

Congratulations middle aged man you took a baseball away from a kid.

You run into a great pitcher like Christian Bergman on a night when he has all his pitches working and you just have to tip your hat.
He is one of my favorite directors. His use of shadow in black and white photography was amazing.
Well, god damn…that was some exciting baseball there.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say Michael Lewis won’t be writing a book about this year’s team.
Cardinals didn’t give the Red Sox an afternoon get-away start time and then the game went 13 innings, finishing after 1:00 am central with Boston using 8 relievers. A’s need every advantage they can get these days.
Trump pardoning Flynn is a mortal lock, right?
I was thinking about that. It would be a *really* bad look, but firing Comey already showed that they are more worried about covering their asses than avoiding the appearance of total corruption.
It would be incredibly stupid and self-destructive, which is why I assume hell do it.
Nah, his supporters will default to the “But Obama pardon so and so” defense and bad optics or not, they’ll only take a small hit.
His supporters at this point are a pretty small group of people, unless you’re talking about the US House of Representatives of course. I can already hear Paul Ryan’s response:
“The president has the constitutional authority to do that. I am going to focus on the things I can control, such as jamming my unpopular domestic agenda through Congress before this all finally implodes.”
Still holding at 40% last I saw.
RIP Chris Cornell. those early Soundgarden albums were a big part of my high school soundtrack, and this remains my favorite song of the grunge era:

I think I said this about Kouzmanoff, years ago, too, based on the way I saw Kouz interact with the fans at Phoenix Muni. Just because I don’t like you as a baseball player on the A’s, that doesn’t mean I dislike you in a personal way; in fact maybe I think you’re pretty cool (this and the home brewing).

And also the incense!
Rosales is the current Athletic for whom I have this feeling. I love his smile and exuberance unreservedly. I also regret he occupies a roster spot (again).
This is another great one I had forgotten about.
This was my first dance with Mrs. N:
I don’t understand how this guy thinks it is OK to just bail on his constituents five months into a two-year term he ran for. Unless he’s ill or about to be indicted, he’s forcing Utah to run an expensive special election because he doesn’t like his job all of a sudden.
I suspect he doesn’t want to be the one to destroy the GOP via investigation nor be the one who sat around doing nothing while being complicit in the GOP’s crimes. And he’s starting to see the breadth of the investigation unfolding in front of him. I suspect the corruption and cover up is far bigger than we can imagine and he knows he’s fucked if the whole thing were to come out, whether he did his job in uncovering it or sought to help conceal it. This is a coward move, but by bailing now, he can sit back and watch how far and how bad it gets and return in the aftermath and run for office again as a party “savior”.
Speculation is he’ll run for governor in 2020. But I don’t see how being the congressman who pulled a Sarah Palin when things got hard is better than being the congressman brave enough to help bring down Trump. Trump won Utah, but he is not popular there.
I guess your theory (an investigation would bring down the party writ large not just Trumpies) and the potential wrath of conservative donors + loss of potential Fox News employment are the best counter-explanations
Yep. Whatever he’s running from specifically, for him to even consider that he may have a future in Utah politics, must be far worse than the optics of walking from a job this early into a term. That anchor will weigh heavily, so either he thinks 3 years will be enough for people to forget (unlikely) or whatever may be turned up will be more catastrophic to his career if he were to stay than for him to go. Because there are rumors he may make a run for Governor, it suggests that whatever he’s running from isn’t specific to him.
Simplest explanation is probably that he realized his political career is going nowhere thanks to Trump and he wants to start cashing in on post-Congress life before the flood of unemployed Republican congressmen hits next year.
Yeah, he thought his job was going to be awesome when it was years of Hillary investigations, but now it sucks. GM has a good point, that this resignation will sure be an anchor on his future political goals.

Our oldest son recently graduated from the University of Utah and his wife from BYU. In August, they will move out of state for law school. Our daughter, who attended UVU, married a great young man who found a terrific job two time zones away.
Would be awesome if this son and daughter were both moving to the DC area.
He started a company called “Strawberry C” and says he is having a mid-life crisis. OK dude.
Josh Marshall should look into that.
That seems significant.

Couldn’t that just be a result of someone new now being in charge?
Hard to say. But it seems more likely that Rosenstein’s decision to put one of the nation’s most respected criminal prosecutors in charge of the investigation reflects that it was already moving in that direction. That would also be consistent with the news that grand jury subpoenas have gone out in recent weeks related to Flynn and Manafort.
Depending on how broadly this extends to related matters (and bearing in mind what happened with Whitewater), there are undoubtedly some interesting directions this could take beyond just the question of interfering in the election. Specifically – how people like Flynn, Manafort, and Page were paid for their foreign work, and how much of that money was property reported – Trump’s private financial involvement with Russians over many years, and whether his real estate business was laundering money for the Russian mob.
This comment seems to be holding up pretty well.
“… but her emails”.
Must have finally been read in on the GOP collusion at large.
The thing people forget about with him is that he came to prominence as one of the House impeachment managers against Bill Clinton, but the whole time he played it off like he was sort of not totally on board with it and just doing his job like a good navy JAG prosecutor would. His supposed independence from the party is mostly a pose.
That’s two of our top three picks in last year’s draft now DLed.

The only positive is that it makes Trump rot with envy, because Erdogan runs his country, the way he would like to run the US, but doesn’t manage to.
Somehow that doesn’t make me feel better.
this vaguely reminded me of a scene from the wire. like freamon or someone talking through a move-by-move of footage: marlo tells chris, chris signals to snoop, snoop walks over to a hopper, etc.
[P]olice stated that some of those involved were members of Erdogan’s security detail — which the Turkish state news agency Anadolu confirmed. “Police did not heed Turkish demands to intervene,” … so the guards moved in to “disperse them.”

They mean Flynn.
Twins-Rockies is the unlikeliest showdown of first place teams.
I’ve heard it said, dunno if it’s true, that for the ubiquitous “Let’s Go, Our Team” we are the only place that uses our city name. Everyone else is “Let’s Go, An-gels” or “Rang-ers” or “Dick-headsRed-Sox” or whatever. Just now hearing the awkward forced syllables of “Let’s Go, Pred-a-tors” I wonder why this is. Nash-ville works fine.
Let’s Go Buffalo. (Clap Clap, Clap Clap Clap) Rhymes. And scans (Not sure, why you think three syllables is awkward, it matches the clapping).
The clapping is the refrain, not the same cadence as the verse. 1-2, 3-4 (1, 2, 3-4-5). Though I admit Buff-a-lo works better than most, is that what the fans there chant when they’re not too despondent?
Sandwich, Parking Spot (clap clap, clap clap clap)
“Pull out stuff”
of course he will be back August 28
