My last game thread sucked, so I’m going to jump right back on the horse. Get ready to endure lots of orange all weekend from Enron Field Minute Maid Park.
Friday at 5:10: Cotton vs. Charlie Morton
Saturday at 4:10: Triggs vs. Joe Musgrove
Sunday at 11:10: Hahn vs. Dallas Keuchel
KhristopHeR
So it’s one of those games.
I’m thinking “one of those road trips”, the 1-8 flavor.
Catcher interference and dropped ball balk in the same inning is something special.
2-7. They sure showed you.
Shortstop for shortstop HBPs, thinking back to the ninth inning of the final game in Oakland. That was La Russa’s policy.
And I’m glad they went with that, rather than cleanup hitter for cleanup hitter which would have worked too.
Mercy, that was an impressive shot.
I figure that’s half the Khrush HRs we’re gonna need tonight
I don’t know. I’m thinking closer to a third.
An hour or two from now I expect to hear the name “Hard Hitten” Mark Whitten.
Looking at the guys hitting ahead of Khris in the order, 12 RBI in a game is not physically possible.
I expect to hear the name Bob Horner because we would probably lose the game.
I think he’s safe somehow.
NBCS replays weren’t conclusive, but after missing a couple in Anaheim I think Bob thought he had to challenge that one.
I want the replay that shows whether Plouffe got caught ball watching on the way to first.
Replay rules are dumb, sure, but I think it would be an improvement if the play stands because they can’t tell, you shouldn’t lose the challenge.
again, numbering the challenges is dumb. a better way is unlimited, but lose draft picks if you lose too many or saomething
I don’t think they’d want to look at more inconclusives. It would cause more reviews as they’d feel safer testing those out in the hope that they got overturned. You might make a case for inconclusives count as a strike rather than an out so that you get 3 of those versus 1 obvious. But even then, it’s probably asking too much. It’s more important to have more eyes reviewing during that 30 seconds rather than change any rules.
I agree with this solution. Fosse had an interview with the A’s guy, Adam, who’s looking at the replays and he basically said he has a tough time sorting through 12 camera angles in 30 seconds to make a decision to relay to Kotsay. Hire a second person to sit at that table or, hell, send a starting pitcher back into that room every night.
Vogt needs to move back 4 inches. Reddick didn’t reach back there at all.
Khrush will need help from the supporting cast to get two more ABs.
JAFF is not only making me miss Rajai, he’s making me miss Coco too.
It was fun for about 3 weeks but the reality is, reality is setting in.
The NBA stretched the first round of playoffs out in such a way that they ended up with no games on a Saturday. Foolishness.
Maybe they didn’t want to compete with rounds 4-7 of the NFL draft.
Even LeBron can’t draw attention when there might be a run on long snappers about to start.
Well, I actually wanted to watch this game but it’s blacked out because I’m somehow in Houston’s sphere of influence.
Arkansas is definitely in the Warsaw Pact.
Da Comrade
Think France in Catch-22, constantly overrun, pledging allegiance to the power du jour, going along to get along. Let the carnage happen somewhere else. Say, Branson.
Branson seems like a solid choice although I do worry what my fellow comrades will do without the talents of Roy Clark.
I’m listening to the radio feed…this is so below my standards…this what being a Democrat must feel like.
HEDY!
It’s Hedley!
How long is the NFL Draft these days? A week?
Lot of value in the 37th round. I think Belicheck has 17 picks on day 8. Gamers and grinders only then.
Glorious Mundy with the early thread win.
I have a great motor. I’m a little undersized but you can’t measure heart.
You were a fast riser on Mel’s Big Draft Board.
I’m a high-character guy who loves to compete, which is what you’re looking for at the commenter position.
Sure you’ve got some red flags on your character, but I spoke with your college coaches and they assure me you’re putting that all in your past and are ready to prove yourself as a solid teammate in the pros.
My teammates want to go into battle with me. That jumps off the film.
Did they attend your birthday party
Thanks, and go As.
Correa took a couple Crosbyesque swings at Triggs’ slider.
Carlos Beltran is only 40?
So, I paid 200 bucks to be able to listen to radio commercials. Good grief.
You’ll be saaaaahrry….at the hasssssienda crossing
I’ll donate my car if I never have to listen to that ad again.
The Vinceining…is happening.
Who are what is a Ryan LaMarre?
Some guy who can’t hit major league pitching.
Well, he’ll fit right in then.
Oh Vince…everyday is little league day for the A’s.
Fosse could talk about catcher’s interference all weekend, and just might.
Scoring runs is better than not scoring runs.
You might be on to something there.
I’m like smart and stuff.
You probably haven’t heard this because it hasn’t gotten much press coverage but today is Trump’s 100th day in office.
The NHL draft lottery is totally like a game show. Not even a studio audience.
The Flyers, Stars and Devils should have to phone a friend to determine #1.
You could tell me this is a real thing or a fake thing and I’d believe you either way.
Jaff has an arm.
So, the Las Vegas Football Team apparently took one guy under suspicion of rape and another guy who is blind in one eye. Alrighty then.
Surely even you can extend McKenzie the benefit of the doubt at this point?
I do? I’m pretty sure I don’t.
Staying on brand is important.
Does he wear an eyepatch? That would be awesome.
Anyway, “many of us have been accused of things.”
It’s honestly getting harder and harder to justify being an NFL fan.
Don’t run on Reddick?
GALLEGO!
I don’t even remember who our 3rd base coach is now.
Rene Lachemann?
I only heard it of course but I hate it when guys run into the third out.
I’m not a big fan of them running into the first and second outs either.
Good point.
Is Triggs good or bad? I’m confused.
Reply hazy.
I wish I could talk myself into being a Warriors fan.
It’s pretty fun.
I’ve occasionally wished I could talk myself into being a Giants fan. But fuck that.
Being a Kings fan is like getting kicked in the nuts 82 times a year. It’s not just that they’re bad but they’re stupid too. I wouldn’t mind getting my mind wiped and just starting over on all my teams.
Does Phil Garner still manage the Astros?
Is Jennifer Garner still married to Batman?
Is James Garner still alive?
no. and apparantly his real name is bumgarner
Yeah, he was from a time when actors had to change their names. I actually read his autobiography a few years back.
“Even Joe couldn’t miss that one.”
Damn, Ray
Nice game for Triggs.
is triggs good?
Signs point to yes
Great heavyweight fight today. Joshua is the truth.
You’re like a one man Sports Center. I can’t remember the last time I watched boxing I used to love it.
BOOM!
I don’t know if Triggs is good but I’m pretty sure Davis is.
Anytime Doolittle comes in I expect bad things to happen. That’s probably not fair but I just don’t trust him.
He just wants to make the 9th interesting for us.
Well, he’s pretty damn good then.
Anyone been to the Great Barrier Reef?
We’re thinking of combining a long-overdue trip to see our granddaughter with trying to see the reef before it dies, and any tips would be much appreciated.
i think you knowwho the likely candidate is
DMOAS!
I was thinking OakFoSho.
(the reef went to see EC)
I hope you make it there, ptbnl…that’s a trip I want to take as well.
We just found return flights to Cairns for $1000, so we’re off to a promising start!
Of course there have been two consecutive years of really bad bleaching and then Tropical Cyclone Debbie, so the reef’s in rough shape right now.
That will be a real tragedy if we lose the reef.
I can give you all kinds of Australia advice. The reef is definitely great but it’s very evident that it’s dying. When I last did GBR a few years ago, we did a couple day trip out of Cairns and we also went to the Daintree the rainforest right near by there. Highly recommend.
If you do make it to Oz, make sure you make it down to the Gold Coast near Brisbane. Most beautiful beaches in the world.
Thanks, and go As.
This is so exaggerated. Where the reef is there’s only box jellyfish, cone snail, and blue-ringed octopus. Well, and crocs. And a couple snakes I suppose. Maybe a couple spiders. And then there’s drop bears…
But aside from that, it’s perfectly safe. It could be worse. On the islands to the east, I’ve heard there are New Zealanders.
I have forgotten about marcus semien.
hedy got on base!
I’m going to go ahead and say that Jaff at the top of the order hasn’t worked.
Speaking of relievers I don’t trust.
The only good thing about listening to this game rather than watching it is I don’t have to see Joe West’s ugly mug.
Bob should have argued until he got tossed:
a) the call was wrong
b) he probably doesn’t want to see the rest of this game
That’s going to be overturned.
Uh, never a doubt.
Good win. Orange slices for everyone.
Bassitt rehabbing for Stockton vs. SJ is on comcast hometown.
kk was excited
138 to go, let’s hope a couple dozen are as fun as this one.
Not being able to complain about the A’s on FK today gave me a chance to look up a stat.
Lowest Oakland A’s team OBP in the month of April:
1. 1968 — .274
2. 2012 — .280 (the surprising one, but they finished at a mediocre .310)
3. 1979 — .282
4. 1995 — .289 (but this was a 5-game month)
5. 2016 — .291
6. 2017 — .297
5 teams managed to be worse than .297. The days of “at least we aren’t the Royals” may have returned. The Royals finish April at an unfathomably bad .210/.270/.336, meaning they would be slightly better off with nine Trevor Plouffes (.207/.275/.366).
And we missed a game.
word press knows what’s good for us
Hawt
they only thing that would make that picture more 70s is a leather 2 inch wide watch band
https://mobile.twitter.com/dasfleet/status/856901240420089856
BARRETO WATCH:
Tripled in his only PA today (he came in the game as a pinch runner). Now hitting .357/.411./.595
Ah, but that 32% K rate has got to come down a bit.
I guess the question is whether he can bring that down while maintaining his new power.
He currently has a .534 BABIP.
I guess that explains away his .372 batting average, but I imagine he has to be hitting the crap out of the ball to achieve that even with luck.
This Caps-Pens series is getting nasty.
Oh my goodness.
Trump’s Andrew Jackson Prevents the Civil War fanfic may be the thing that finally breaks me.
Wow
Welcome to our new America. Can we secede now?
the southies will rise
GM, those are just real Americans expressing themselves, and it’s basically our fault for not listening and accepting their perspective.
They’re probably suffering from economic anxiety.
Only because they’re still suffering under the oppressive yolk of estate taxes, the AMT, and having their private corporation’s income fully taxed.
So much for the tolerant left.
or the coastal elite.
Suggestion to Red Sox: Wear your #42 jerseys tonight. (Also put some plainclothes security people in the stands.)
Using prosecutorial resources to charge and try someone for laughing at the Attorney General sounds like a great use of prosecutorial resources and not all like an unconstitutional abuse of power.
And the jury convicted her.
No more free speech.
i have no idea what is happening
These are very dispiriting times.
Good thing you’re not a New Orleans public defender.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/may/01/prosecuted-law-new-orleans
yeah, ouch
Their explanation seems to be that while they believed that the arrest for laughing was absurd, they had no choice but to convict for her behaviour leaving court.
Jurors always have a choice.
I didn’t say it was a good explanation.
if laughing was not disruptive, then officers removing her were acting beyond their authority. if this were a resisting arrest cas the officers would not be executing their lawful duties and therefore the resistance would not be unlawful. the question is, is her further speech due to her wanting to disrupt the hearing or was the disruption incident to her removal?
I suspect her further yelling about sessions as she was being removed was the hold up and enough of a hook to be held up.
the bugger question is GM’s about why sessions didn’t demand this one be dropped because the obvious perjury during his testimony doesn’t seem to be going anywhere but this is
Jury nullification is an appropriate tool in such circumstances.
My issue isn’t with the jury though. It’s with Team Sessions deciding this prosecution was a good idea.
Right. I suspect some sort of ACLU-y group is going to argue unconstitutional vagueness on appeal, too (though I have no idea if it works here).
Sure seems like a good candidate for that argument.
Do this at the Coli and they’ll end up in the dugout.
“The bill even includes language that explicitly prohibits construction of a new wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.”
So much winning.
Damn, this seems to be happening a lot in the A’s org. Son of an A’s scout, even more tragically.
http://www.eastbaytimes.com/2017/05/02/oakland-as-minor-leaguer-found-dead-at-24/
A grad student that I worked with at Harvard has this same disease (I think). At least he has been diagnosed and is getting treatment, but it’s crazy to talk with a healthy-seeming 24-year old about his potentially lethal heart disease and how the medication that he takes for it occasionally drives him into seizures.
lol.
watched first 2 innins of assholes v baby in boston. already kicked out the orioles pitcher despite, it being an obvious accident
oh stop vince. i don’t care about davis’ previous GS
please gget to other davis
Ooh, two doctorKs in one thread.
woohoo!
