That was nice. I wish they would play the wal;k up music the first time a well liked A returns
Mulder on the mic.
Ray almost talked over reddicks introduction sayig some nonsense about semien and bouncing the throw
If he’s going to spend this much time in the radio booth they need to give Korach a button that mutes him.
the copy of the papa xfinity commercial wants you to be indignant over the question who is better curry or westbrook. saying direct tv is westbrook and xfinity is curry
I am not sure that is sending the message they want
Here in Oakland we call it dropping a View Leveler on ’em.
Can’t take eyes off Canadiens vs Rangers hockey OT.
Habs win!
this is a lot of pitches for no strikeouts
Khrushed!
fosse said it knuckled
Plouffe needs to be hitting at least .200 if he’s going to wear his shirt like a slob.
I imagine one might adopt any number of affectations to overcome the name Plouffe.
Wearing your jersey Plouffe-e may not be the best avenue.
Semien’s plate discipline has really improved. It’s so painful watching Rosales and Rajai swing at pitches Semien laid off.
FTFY
Turns out it was because swinging hurt his wrist.
dammit
oh jeebus, kendall
Christ, this fker seems to kill us all the time.
14-16 royals are damnedable
madson too
Plouffe must be French for “strike three called”.
When it’s strike three looking it’s spelled Plouꟻꟻe.
I still think it’s the sound of a rally fizzling out.
Ooooooooooooof
Sharks scoreless thru 1st period, looking good though, especially Jones in net.
Edmonton relentless in the 2nd period so far, up 1-0 on a shorthanded goal and almost got another one. Could easily be down 3 goals, Jones still sharp. Sharks power play looks terrible.,
I wouldn’t have signed Reddick to 4/52 but the Canha Experience on both sides of the ball has me rapidly reconsidering.
Ah crap, what’s wrong with Graveman?
I haven’t heard anything, but TV had a shot where it looked to me like Graveman was trying to keep his pregame meal from ending up as a puddle on the dugout floor. Might have been a “try to make it through 5 innings if you can and we’ll bring in the bullpen”.
Looked safe. But no reason not to challenge.
Will somebody please look around in the storage room for the Golden Sombrero?
gonna need a couple
Altuve is impossible.
DFA Plouffe
Just terrible
Alonso woulda had it.
For sure
i am still disappointed. i don’t know why
Even though I know they are a 70-win team, that doesn’t mean I’m not here every night rooting for a win. The best seasons are the ones like 2012 when we are all resigned to suck and something special happens.
Maybe better than 70.
But so far exactly what we expected:
Rotation potentially very good, but usually not going deep into games.
Bullpen. OK so far, but no one dominant.
Hitters with decent power, subpar OBP. A bit below average overall.
Godawful defense.
Not sure it’s that crazy to think 81 wins/.500 for the season. Modest as it is, seems like a worthy goal.
After watching today’s game, I’m not sure they’ll break 65.
Can we cross out that bit about the bullpen?
Seems fair.
Jaff Decker is a .750 hitter though.
game day is broken
If Madson and Dull can’t git er done, Coulombe isn’t the guy I’m expecting to save the day.
He struck out four batters in the sixth inning.
Pathetic
He still has a potential opportunity to GIDP.
A home run! I hope AV takes him out for celebratory postgame birria.
Greetings from Panama City, en route to Santiago and San Pedro de Atacama.
Looks like I didn’t miss much on the overnight flight.
Yes, it seems the nuclear war will wait until at least Sunday.
The high Atacama may be the right place to be …
Ooh, have a soak for me.
That’s high on the to-do list.
Spectacular!
Wow!
What? I definitely missed out on that during my atacama trips!
Are the POLARBEAR folks going to let you touch a telescope?
Hell no!
Touched it anyway!
Oh man, now they are FKed
(A) Joyce gets all right field plate appearances.
–or–
(B) Rosales is the platoon right-fielder.
B, and it will be an improvement over the status quo…
The next four games we face RHP anyway, but then 3 of the 4 after that could be LHP. It might be worth making another move then, but there is not an obvious candidate (Pinder? Is it crazy to think about Barreto at 2nd already, with Lowrie moving to 3rd? Edit: Even if they think he’s ready, at the very least they would want to wait until after game 20, because of service time rules.)
The bigger question right now might be whether Decker will take significant playing time away from Rajai in CF.
If Rosales starts in the outfield, Bob can’t pinch-hit for him because there goes his only backup middle infielder.
The 13-man pitching staff just causes too many other problems, and it starts with the attempt to keep Alcantara as what amounts to a Rule 5 player.
Speaking of Rule 5, this is pretty interesting on how the Padres are making Rule 5 a big part of their tanking/rebuilding strategy.
Alcantara is doing his best to make sure he can pass through waivers.
That would definitely be the shortest path to a significant MLB career starting in 2018. The options rules mess him up. Nobody gets better if four different teams try them as the last man in the bullpen. His other route to MLB success likely involves a stay in Japan, Korea or Mexico.
Canha has not hit lefties well since his marlins days
Inavitable move
Order Plouffe to sacrifice bunt every time.
Manaea’s slider is nasty
Fosse is way too flippant on radio and Korach is unable to avoid being sucked into the vortex.
This is a real problem. Fosse treats radio broadcasts like they don’t count or something.
Cotroneo is better at turning the Fosse volume button down than Korach is. Vince moves right along after his babble while Ken engages him.
Ray: This is really good chowder!
Vince: You’ve said that twice already.
I’m a fan of high socks in general, and a fan of high socks on Khris Davis in particular.
But the socks he is wearing at the moment are too ugly.
Contract Yonder means business.
Jaff!
Screw you all. I love Rosie.
how about now?
I wasn’t watching whatever he screwed up, so yes.
lawn dart!
I can’t even call it a lawn dart. It was too weak a throw for that.
Nice call blue.
Healy’s at the point where it doesn’t even matter if he gets 3 extra strikes.
We might set a record for solo homers.
-When you’re up by 5, maybe try throwing a strike or two
-Get in front of the fking ball
-8 man pen and you take this long to take him out?
God damn this team is frustrating as hell.
but, no hitter!
Ah, yes, the famous A’s no-hitter in 2017 when they lost 9-8 because they gave up 13 walks and committed 8 errors.
i was part of a high school no hitter where the no hit team won 8-6
lost the no hit team lost
Should be out of the inning, can still end up behind
This game is enough to get anyone on board with whatever game shortening measures MLB is trying to implement.
hopefully it will be a lesson not to tighten the strike zone
Anyone who thinks there’s no problem with pace of play needs to talk to the seagulls circling in the 6th inning
can the umpire just call this game now?
This game does reek of 1997. Let’s hope Buddy Groom can get a couple key outs in the 8th and get it to Bill Taylor for the save opportunity.
Apparently there’s a chance of a rainout tomorrow, and that might be the most favorable outcome.
(and parking is $40 tomorrow due to the Warriors game)
If they’re going to give this up, at least do it quickly and dramatically instead of this slow tiresome burn.
At least Doolittle didn’t FK around like everybody else.
remeber the 2 bases loaded no run innings?
A few Astros appeared to be glaring out at Montas after that one.
In 2013, I’d have been pretty pissed too if some shitty Astros pitcher broke Cespedes’s hand.
I don’t remember the last time I left a game early, especially one where the deficit wasn’t really that big, but wow that was quite a shitshow. Hard to watch even when the A’s had a 5-run lead and a no-hitter.
If you want to see a no-hitter and don’t mind if it’s against the A’s, I’d suggest Thursday night at the Coliseum.
James Paxton: 3 starts, 21 IP, 8 hits, 0 runs, 4 BB, 22 K.
It seems Semien is injured. Will they start Barreto’s clock, or just call up Pinder?
And with Game 13, Adam Rosales became an everyday player, starting at SS vs. RHP and in RF vs. LHP.
Now we find out if he has really turned himself into Chris Carter.
The obvious move, but it leaves the team without a real shortstop unless Pinder is better than I think with the glove.
When you think about where Semien was a couple years ago, it’s ironic that losing him for any length of time is such a severe blow to the defense. This team’s defense is an abomination. Is there anyone other than Alonso who can even be considered average at his position? These guys should pitch quite a bit better than the 65-97 1997 team, but they fall way short of the 1997 offense and both teams are at the very bottom of the defensive barrel.
Looking back at the 1997 pitching stats, “should pitch quite a bit better” is a huge understatement. Even adjusting for the late-90s era of mega-offense, that pitching staff is stupendously bad.
Yes, whereas the difference in offense is largely a product of the different eras – the ’97 A’s had a 101 OPS+, and were below league average in runs scored.
The current team (somehow) has a 108 OPS+ so far (but is also below average in R/G, which seems like the more realistic measure of how good they are).
I was thinking 1996 was the peak offensive year (“A’S POWERBALL!!!”) but even there OPS+ was 99, a remarkable achievement for a team that hit 243 home runs.
Ironic indeed. But completely true.
One of the reasons I’m high on Matt Chapman is that he’s the rare A’s prospect with the potential to be an elite defender. I’m willing to invest some hope that there’s enough potential with the bat to eventually be a Brandon Crawford type (albeit at a less valuable position).
You just can’t find above average defense players on the scrap heap anymore. Teams value them too much. You have to develop them yourself.
I have had enough upper deckers dropped on me for one weekend.
The Giants have not postponed yet.
they don’t have an NBA playoff game in their parking lot
Yeah, $40 parking, no Championship Plaza, Easter Sunday. This was a good one to do the fans a favor and get rid of it as early as possible.
also, as of 1250, looking out my window, there is no way the giants play their game
ALWAYS also, FtGs
Fixed.
Thanks, and go As.
I am about 3 and a half miles from the PacBell park. it has been steadily raining. I won’t go out and play soccer with the boys, I can’t believe they are letting million dollar baseball players play in this
The Astros series back here in Sept has scheduled off days both before and after, that’s likely where the makeup will happen.
Doubleheader Saturday 9/9.
The A’s now have two traditional doubleheaders on their schedule. I bet 90% of doubleheaders are the day-night type now.
Dan Straily had a no hitter through 5. Walked the first two in the sixth and mattingly pulled him.
they lead 1-0
now they lead 2-0 and the no hitter is still going
ziegler gives up a hit with 2 outs in the 8th
C.J. Nitkowski seems like a bright guy to listen to. He’s not some 70-year-old ex-catcher lazily coasting in the booth. He also (a) thinks Fast Times at Ridgemont High is “one of the greatest movies ever made” and (b) pointing out that Guillermo Heredia of the Mariners bats right and throws left, stumped the play-by-play guy with the question of who is the only really good player in the last 50 years to do that.
Slusser says the A’s will call up Bruce Maxwell tomorrow.
I’m not sure a 3rd catcher who is hitting .208 in AAA really fixes the bench. Maybe the plan is to have Vogt DH a little more.
It does seem very early to run out of patience with Healy, which is what it seems to say, though as lenscrafters stated above Healy has looked awfully hopeless at times.
It’s the end of the 13-man pitching staff, which I bet Melvin demanded, but are they ready to roll the dice on an Alcantara DFA? I’d bet on Montas or Coulombe before that.
Graveman to DL. Ugh.
Healy on the bench today with Vogt at DH. Putting Healy in the short side of a platoon would not be smart.
Oh, my
Sheesh
A’s: Get swept in weekend series, blow 5-run lead in final game that takes 3 hours, 55 minutes.
Rangers: Get swept in weekend series, blow 5-run lead in final game that takes 3 hours, 39 minutes.
$15 View Level seats for this A’s-Rangers series are going like hotcakes, folks, so get em while you can.
They should offer a special 5th inning price.
Sharks led out of the dressing room by Rickey!
That’s a great photo.
Oh man, I had high hopes this was him leading them through the corridor and onto the ice through the shark mouth, skating circles around everybody.
More on the tandem pitching rotation thing.
There’s something very pretty about the logo they use on that site. A little less reflection is needed though.
that is a lot of words
Ah, the A.J. Daulerio Deadspin. Good times.
Uh…..OK
DiFi mostly had her way, but doesn’t get single payer
next time, lets not put it in the middle of the day, huh? Who am I kidding next time.
That was a pretty ridiculous statement.
California could certainly do a lot better than DiFi, but her failure to support single-payer healthcare seems pretty low on the list of problems right now.
Right. I’m all for single payer as soon as someone shows me a way it can work. Vermont and Colorado have both failed, which is a bad sign.
fractured scaphoid
When you hear that he’d been complaining of wrist pain since Spring Training, this feels as if it has to be pretty high on the list of medical failures by the Oakland medical staff.
JLAFF take note, this is cool, make your team do it
Booooooooring
“We suck and don’t want to waste a year of this kid’s career”
Thanks, and go As.
