I used to get excited to gamble on football. Now it just seems like so much work. I just don’t care about the other 31 teams, which kinda seems like a prerequisite. Someone does care about your fantasy team…so they can screw you.
The only bet I’m really enthused about today is from the prop list. At +1000, Lady Gaga opens her halftime set with Poker Face. The first line mentions Texas, feels like a lock.
Conventional lines have held steady all week, NE -3, over/under around 58. I’m rooting for Atlanta, of course, because I’m not evil. I’ll take them to win outright at +135. Call it 38-31 Falcons in a shootout.
In other news:
Carolina’s home game vs Notre Dame now no longer at home, as UNC and all of Chapel Hill have been evacuated due to tainted water. Heels play in Greensboro today at 10:00 AM our time instead.
James Michael McAdoo averaging 16 minutes per game since David West went out, and looking good. Love the energy on the defensive end especially. Also the wide-open dunks. Also the new nickname SwagAdoo.
Help me Melissa McCarthy, you’re my only hope.
The choice is clear:
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
FK the Patriots.
This little guy on my shoulder, who looks exactly like Joe Buck, keeps going on about “this moment of redemption after all the trials and tribulations of Deflategate” and “staking his claim as one of the greatest, no, THE greatest, quarterback of all time”. But we shall see.
As I’ve said before, I do think Buck and Aikman are pretty good, definitely better than having to deal with Phil Simms. But when Joe falls head over heels for one of the girls it can get pretty nauseating.
I’m excited about Terrell Davis, and I am excited about the Puppy Bowl.
Winter looks like he could be good for some action. Stormy looks terrified but adorable. And of course Lucky is going to be the fan favorite tripod.
We’ve got Beebop
Cause we’ve got a band
And we play Beebop in the band
I’ll take Nyquist, slick locking Husky/Shepherd mix. And Winston the Aussie Shepherd looks dangerous AF.
http://www.animalplanet.com/tv-shows/puppy-bowl/photos/puppy-bowl-xiii-starting-lineup/
Yeah they didn’t snap Winston from his best angle!
Sable the Black Lab/Husky mix.
Rory the poodle-terrier takes MVP. No one could’ve seen that coming.
Terrell Owens interviewing Chad Ochocinco Johnson at a PBA Bowling event is an early contender for highlight of the day.
Mike Lodish should come out of retirement to try to reclaim his record.
Bill King voice clip in the TV intro, yay!
A defensive battle, just like we expected.
Clunk. Even the commercials; if there has been a memorable one I must have been taking a leak.
The T-Mobile one with Snoop and Martha Stewart just now made me chuckle.
“Can of Bisque!” There have been a couple of clever ones in the second half, but maybe I just care more about that than the football at this point.
Purple Cushion!
That was the easiest Sunday afternoon drive back from Tahoe ever … finally a use for the Superbowl!
Best Halftime show in years.
And I’m not even a fan of pop music.
Agreed, great straight-forward set of rocking music, sharp production without many stupid gimmicks.
Delayed agreement here. Of course Prince is still the best one ever, but this is very close.
I’m still partial to the no holds barred zaniness of Katy Perry.
Alfa Romeo? Seriously?
Yeah, I wondered about that too.
What about them? A commercial?
They sponsored the halftime performance. Pretty high profile spot for a company that doesn’t sell many cars in the US.
I’m pretty fired up about it. Fond memories of racing down the autostrada in the back seat of a rented Alfa my dad was driving with white knuckles.
Been driving a Spider for almost twenty years now
Gotta love the new Niners coach calling a pass play with his team at the 23 leading by eight.
Yep. Cost ’em the game.
It’s ok, the niners probably won’t be in that position very often.
Exciting, but goddamn it someone drive a wooden stake into Belichick’s heart already.
The Buffalo Bills’ seat on the Throne in the Hall of Ignominy is in grave danger.
You reigned for a quarter-century, andeux, but it’s over.
The Falcons owner’s three-piece banker’s suit is too funny.
Pretty sure Russian hackers are involved in this game.
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK THE FUCKING PATRIOTS
That was worse than the Warriors choke.
By far
They’re not booing, they’re saying GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODELL.
That Julio Jones catch on the sideline was ridiculous. Shame they pissed it away.
Call three running plays, force the Patriots to burn their last time outs, then kick a FG to go up 11 with less than 3 minutes left – game over.
Yep. Fortunately that type of playcalling won’t impact my life going forw…
Fuck.
I mean, that playcalling got ATL to the SB in the first place. It’s tough to not give the ball to the MVP and Julio Jones.
And, really, Ryan taking a 10 yard sack and then the penalty after that were worse than the play calling.
Thanks, and go As.
Was that pass interference call right before the TD in overtime a little weak, or is that my ignorance showing?
If the ATL defender turns around before the ball gets there, it’s probably a no-call. The way he played it, though, guaranteed the PI call (of course if he didn’t interfere, it’s probably a game-winner TD pass anyway).
Basically, at that point in the game, the Falcons were FKed.
By the way, how did the Falcons manage to blow all three timeouts before the final drive of regulation, when they were leading the whole way? That seems impossibly incompetent.
IIRC, the second one was a play where Ryan didn’t like what he saw, and the last one was for an injury inside two minutes.
Last one was a challenge on that crazy catch over the middle where three Falcons should have intercepted/broken it up, and it sure looked live like it hit the turf.
welp, i suppose this weekend i joined the great debate and chose a side.
the answer is: CATS!
Nice.
I thought it was going to be VHS vs. Betamax.
pfft. the future is videodisc.
Biggest winners on props:
LOL, the books know what’s coming:
Plus 550 seems really low for something that had literally never happened before.
The percentage of Yes bets tells me the house strategy is to lure people into betting Yes on unlikely outcomes at dreadful odds, pay off the few that come through and collect all that other easy money. Not unlike your average state lottery.
It looks like the NFL has averaged right around 1 OT game per week since bringing back the 2-point conversion (note: pro-football-reference game finder query lists each game twice), so fair odds would probably be about 15:1.
At first glance, I actually thought the last two bets you listed looked reasonably generous (or at least not dreadful):
-Gostkowski missed 3 extra points this year, Bryant only 1. So +300 or a little more would probably be fair. +250 is not bad as prop bets go.
-Neither Atlanta or NE had a non-QB throw a pass all season, which seems surprising. But Belichik does like his gimmicks, plus there is the chance of an injury. Hard to estimate that one.
So is there money to be made betting the boring side of these type of bets, or is the vig too large?
On the site FSU linked at the top “Will the game go to overtime?” is listed as Yes +750, No -1500. I think the sole purpose is to grab $2 or $5 at a time from the guy wandering through the sports book with a drink in his hand.
I’m trying to google how often non-Super Bowl games go to overtime and failing. I wonder if these odds would start to look reasonable if you looked only at games with lines around 3 points.
Side google-fail question: Is overtime more or less common since the 2-point conversion rule came in? On the one hand, it opens the door to weird scores. On the other hand, most NFL coaches won’t go for 2 unless it is to tie the game.
Official stats: Compared to the previous 9 years, the books’ hold percentage of 7.9% exceeded the average which is about 6.5%, and the $10.9M dollar amount of the win was the third highest.
Rickey Henderson Field!
(of course, the ceremony is on opening night to ensure no extra attendance)
Or to guarantee a half-decent Opening Night attendance, in lieu of a viable team.
Cut the field in half and you’d have TWO hall of famers.
Or at least a functioning drainage system
That’s better than “Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium”, but I bet Rickey didn’t pony up the $18 million.
The team should pay Rickey for the privilege.
I’m already angry about when the Raiders screw up Rickey’s field.
“What are your divots doing in Boss Rickey’s field?”
It’s kind of refreshing to have ownership pandering to us a little now. Next up, the abandonment of directed parking and a “Fuck the Giants” day.
Tell me more.
Thanks, and go As.
Did JamesV ever put his recordings of the Korach Sessions online? If I remember right, that was the one time I heard the F-Word out of Ken’s mouth, his mentioning that Bill referred to them off-air as “the fucking Giants”. Only about 25 of us heard it live though, in a meeting room in a hotel in Pleasanton.
OK that’s amazing and I want to hear.
Thanks, and go As.
Bad memory as it turns out. There was a word or two in there but it was actually “the TFGs” (at 16:26).
The whole thing was pretty interesting if you want to listen to the 4 parts James posted, about an hour and a half.
that’s everyday.
Ugh … DeVos on a tie-break, and now they can move ahead with Sessions.
It’s bad that she was confirmed, but it’s good that people mobilized against her, no Democrat voted for her, and 50 republican senators have to explain why they were the deciding vote for her. The combination of her blithe ignorance, hostility to public education, and big donations to those senators makes for a pretty nice target for attacks.
Sessions’ confirmation will be a much bigger tragedy, sadly.
Sure – she was just the most egregiously incompetent pay-to-play pick, so that even a republican senator could question her suitability.
did y’all catch who her brother is?
The mercenary guy?
for now. the no child left unarmed act consultancy is on the horizon though?
Programming note: Swingin’ A’s is on MLB network tonight at 6pm.
It was a decent enough hour of television. That’s not an area where there is any new ground left to be broken.
get ‘tcher popcorn
I enjoyed the news that the Trump DOJ hires who were going to argue had to defer when their former law firm filed an amicus brief supporting the TRO.
for what its worth
they are not arguing separation of powers? I don’t remember much but isn’t immigration under congress?
Article 1 Section 8:
Naturalization =/= Immigration though. It’s that 1950 Knauff v. Shaughnessy Supreme Court ruling they’re citing that gave the DOJ and the Department of State broad powers. IANAL obviously.
They’re really going to argue this thing by telephone? That’s hard enough with one judge, but with three pushy appellate judges it will be a disaster.
dude don’t interrupt the judges
“These proceedings have been moving pretty fast” is not really going to fly when you are the appellant asking for an emergency stay, methinks.
also “our claim is” is weak sauce
“I do want to get to one key point.”
“Well we’d like to get an answer to our question!”
Yikes
yes [the president has unreviewable power] with constitutional limitations.
Whoa Michelle Friedland is one of the judges? I tangentially know her mom through a friend.
she kicked some ass
I didn’t know her at Stanford but I remember her because she was Rachel Maddow’s freshman roommate. She’s pretty impressive.
that is some high powered people in one room
The government is off to a pretty shaky start here.
you can hear him getting notes handed over
I think some whispering too.
i don’t think there is a problem with that, because he could do it in person as well, it just is stark with tel-appearance ™
can’t you ask for more time if you go over because of questions?
honest question
Up to the Court.
has this guy never argued before? he ain’t smooth
ok, his non prepared stuff is better
Why would Trump hire someone experienced?
taking phone calls dammit. stop calling me
dude this is a softball, there is a provision for minority religions to get a waiver
Yeah, and on the ridiculous underbreadth question (“80% of the world’s muslims are unaffected!”), these countries are where nearly all muslim refugees are going to come from (Syria, Libya, Somalia, Iraq, Sudan, Yemen)
I wish erwin chimerinski was live tweeting this
The Ninth Circuit is badass for live-streaming arguments. There were like 150,000 people on that stream at one point. It’s very stupid that the Supreme Court doesn’t do that.
larry tribe
How did Judge Friedland get that midwestern accent? She’s from Berkeley.
my mom from el monte has that too sometimes. family i suppose
If the order goes down in legal flames because Rudy 911 couldn’t stop himself from bragging to Judge Jeanine during a Fox hit, I will laugh forever.
I’m worried they don’t care if it goes down in flames. That they will allow an attack so that they can extort it for more power and to further illegitimize the courts.
Maybe, but defeating it and establishing a precedent that there is judicial review of these kinds of executive actions is its own reward.
I also think that by establishing such a robust record of his administration’s incompetence and his own refusal to read intelligence reports, it’s more likely that the country outside of his super fans blames him for an attack.
They’re doing a “Bay Area Hip Hop” fireworks show this season. Besides the Hammer catalog and The Humpty Dance I’m not sure how clean they can keep the lyrics.
FK these people so FKing hard
i am confused as I believe the constitution expressly excludes congressional floor speeches from liable laws
It’s a senate rule against personal attacks on other senators. In this case, the nominee is also a senator, and criticism of his record can be construed as a personal attack, so …
but that rule is in direct conflict with a provision of the constitution. the supremacy clause should override and I suspect it would if it were ever challenged.
I guess you mean
but
that’s dumb
the two clauses, not you
This particular rule has an apt history.
naturally
upon reflection, I think the rule still violates the first clause and the second doesn’t apply
explain
I got my plastic card in the mail yesterday. surprisingly hassle free
Clause 2 can’t be used to nullify clause 1, in a nutshell.
But the speech or debate clause only applies, on its face, to consequences imposed in “other places.” That seems to allow for internal congressional discipline.
i didn’t think a lot about it. I just think its dumb
It is definitely that.
They’re playing for keeps.
It’s not libel if it’s true.
sure
DeVos was the one to stall. As long as she’s after Sessions, she doesn’t go through.
I don’t think that’s right. If Sessions weren’t there, McConnell would have forced Collins or Murkowski to vote yes. They both voted to move her out of committee, after all, where she won by one vote.
While it’s pretty unlikely I would agree with one syllable out of the mouth of the Breitbart guy, McConnell did to Warren what the Berkeley protestors did to Milo, though I’m not aware of any broken windows in the Senate.
can we please call him yanopolis?
Facepalm.
I was surprised Melissa McCarthy could keep from laughing during her sketch, but I think saying this with a straight face is more impressive.
And FK Joe Manchin too.
the google preview of his wiki page starts with Joseph “piss joe” Manchin. though the actual page doesn’t mention piss.
It seems I am not the only one displeased with him.
I guess. But do we really prefer that seat go red? I hated Ben Nelson as much as anyone else, but in both cases I just have to keep saying “big tent party”
Such senators are much more annoying when there is a Democrat in the White House and they gum up legislation and give cover to Republicans. In this context I’m willing to let him do what he thinks he needs to in order to keep the seat.
I’m more pleasantly surprised that senators like Tester, Heitkamp, and Donnelly all voted no.
Alabama’s governor. meanwhile, is apparently going to replace Sessions with the state’s AG (the excellently named Luther Strange), who is currently investigating said governor in connection with some sort of sex scandal involving a Celine Dion concert.
Off to a flying start!
i think last season took him out of the running.
i do like watching him pitch though
When Bob Melvin is running the organization’s #9 starter out there, which usually happens by June, I’ll watch Mengden over Ross Detwiler eight days a week.
Best shape of his life!
Jesus christ
Thanks, and go As.
As a matter of fact, it is. And they wouldn’t do it if it weren’t financially beneficial to them. Ergo, his claim that his opposition is false.
LOL, Nordstrom stock is up 3% on the day.
It closed up more than 4%.
SAD!
Looking at the preliminary media guide, I see they are bringing Mark Mulder back for a second season in that part-time TV job. So it has been Hatteberg (2012-2013), Shooty ugh (2014), Chavez (2015) and now Mulder (2016-2017).
Muldy > Hatty > Chavy > Shooty is I think the correct power ranking here.
Ray’s 70th birthday is Game 2. Just sayin’, but I still think he works until he keels over dead in the booth some night.
send up dibs.
i miss his nonsense over the winter
Looks right. With Fosse somewhere in between the last two.
This will be Ray’s 32nd season. Thir tee two. Where is the campaign for the Frick Award?
That’s amazing. It also made me find this resource on the A’s site that I did not know existed.
My first A’s on TV memories are Lon and Bill trading off innings working with Bill Rigney on KBHK.
Their website staff has forgotten its existence too.
That doesn’t include a lot of fill-ins. There was a period when Bill had the Raiders and Lon the 49ers so they both missed games in August and September. Baer and probably Kozberg were the KALX announcers when Charlie didn’t have a commercial radio contract (good grief, it could have been Nico if that had happened several years later).
Also, Harry Caray was on when I first started following the A’s on radio and the rare TV game (maybe 20/season). He was still a serious baseball announcer, not the buffoon he became later. He and Monte couldn’t stand each other. Most of Monte’s partners in the early Oakland days were Midwest guys Charlie had heard from his farm in Indiana; they came out to Oakland for a year or two each but quickly tired of Charlie’s criticism and quit, or were fired.
Fortunately for Ray, an A’s owner probably hasn’t watched one of his broadcasts since Walter Haas died, if ever.
I dunno, for all his many faults Lew was a legit A’s fan.
tim roye?
I don’t remember that either. But the Warriors’ website says he has called games for both the A’s and the Rivercats.
After they dumped Greg Papa they rotated Roye, Kuiper and Greenwald for those seasons and eventually settled on Kuiper. They were still only doing around 125 games on TV so ~40 games/year would be easy to forget.
I remember Greenwald. Not only was he terrible, but to me his voice belonged to the Gnats, which is doubly worse.
Hank agreed with you on Giants vs. A’s, but more than that, he had been out of broadcasting for several years when somebody talked him into the part-time A’s job. He never regained the enthusiasm. Then in 2005, Ken needed a partner for road games when Bill’s injury prevented him from traveling. Hank took on most of that workload so he was doing even more of something he wasn’t interested in to begin with. No surprise, then, that he’s off the list after 2005.
Digging up a 2010 interview with Hank…yep, that’s how he came across during his A’s tenure:
No. This is stupid. Don’t do this.
Somebody has watched too much soccer with the penalty kicks.
I was thinking college football OT.
Maybe we should give both teams half a win just for getting to extra innings, and then another half if they win the extra innings.
Thinking about that beyond the initial kneejerk, maybe it does make sense in the minor leagues. The way their rosters get jerked around the manager doesn’t always have a fully-stocked bullpen, sometimes two pitchers short. Wasn’t there a case some years ago where the Stockton manager ordered his pitcher to balk in a run in the 16th or 17th inning because he was out of pitchers and felt ending a Class A game with everybody healthy was more important than winning? I could see doing it after the 12th inning in the minor leagues. Not in the majors, ever.
i think this is good. maybe graduating up through the leagues with AAA getting that in the 13th or so
AAA baseball used to schedule doubleheaders, both games regulation 7 innings only.
Still do, I think.
I can confirm that. In fact the first time I saw Lincecum pitch was the first half of a 7 inning DH in the rain. He got pulled after 6.1 with a no-no in tact, but a couple of walks and a HBP IIRC.
Just have ties for that.
but this time it counts!
The pinnacle of neckware fashion, never to be surpassed.
Oh crap, a mathematics challenge on the login page. This may end my FK posting career once and for all.
We’ve been getting spam-accounted so hard the email account got suspended by Google for spamming. I’m hoping that helps, but if the flood abates I’ll test using it only on new user registration.
just don’t make the math any more advanced.
Heh. I’ll see about adding square roots.
Tonight I’m finally getting around to the last unwatched DVR’d game from last season, Vin Scully’s Dodger Stadium finale, with all the Dodgers batters doffing their helmets and saluting him from home plate (though a couple times he has his head buried in a promo read). Immediately I was reminded this was the day Jose Fernandez was killed in the boat crash. But, it’s always good to see one of Brandon McCarthy’s rare starts.
So that buys him the first couple weeks of college…
But he has another decade of child labor ahead of him to save more.
In another decade there won’t anything called college anymore.
This makes so little sense to me I dont even know where to start.
A fool and his money…
This is amazing.
I look forward to him blaming low sales numbers on the Fresno mound.
The customers let too many of his pitches go by and then take a walk.
Hmmmmmmmmmm
Holy shit.
The idea that this felon and Loria think there is a chance in hell of MLB approving that is troubling.
MLB won’t allow free market, sad!
MLB actively denied he was part of it.
I’m skipping this one, but the start of the DH in World Championship in St. Moritz is epic.
By the time they’ve climbed all those steps the racers will be exhausted!
Go that way – REALLY FAST. If something gets in your way, turn!
do you have any idea what the street value of this mountain is??
More “so-called” judges. SAD!
Unanimous, no less. I saw some 2-1 predictions.
It’s an impressively thorough and well reasoned per curiam. Quite a comprehensive beatdown for the DOJ.
i initially thought 2-1, and i am not so sure on a lower profile case its wouldn’t have been, but I think either they all agreed, or for the sake of the nation they decided to issue a per curium opinion.
that’s the right call
LOL, we just saw you getting your assed kicked in court.
And now we see you quietly withdrawing the enjoined ban while hiding from the cameras.
That is fucking gold
Thanks, and go As.
Guess who had the pleasure of calming the angry President at the White House dinner tonight.
Great, now Trump will tweet something nasty about Mark Davis, and we’ll never be rid of the motherFKer.
“Dick Posthumus” is the name of Thomas Pynchon’s next protagonist, right? This is just one of his deft troll jobs? No one can actually have that name.

Fakest libertarian ever.
Dude
For posterity:
Not that this needed more confirmation, but Rand Paul’s principled libertarianism turns out to be just hypocritical posturing. Shocker.
A lot going on here

Make America Horrorshow Again
Meanwhile the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Taskforce is keeping itself busy with Standing Rock activists.
not that there’s anything wrong with single-gender BBM bukake.
Lake Tahoe is up nearly a foot in the last week, to three feet below the maximum. “6.07” is the latest reading, which means 6226.07 feet above sea level; maximum is 6229.1. That’s a very steep rise for February; I finally had about 6″ of snow last night and this morning after rain most of the week. With all this snow in the mountains we should be full to the brim for Memorial Day and probably well into July.
SwagAdoo is really balling since he put on the headband. Very ABA looking.
Dray has a good look at a quadruple double at halftime.
Thanks, and go As.
Had to settle for a triple double because he only scored 4
Points. I’m not sure there’s ever been a rebounds/assists/steals triple double before tonight.
Yep. First NBA triple double with single digit points.
Kerr pulled him with 4 points. Didn’t even let him get a 5×5
Pretty sure that some how some way they could have fed him 3 dunks or something for the quad. lol
Thanks, and go As.
Self-portrait at 11.
Also the image size tags don’t seem to be working.
very cool
Love it!
wow
brilliant
Really nice!
These OKC fans are embarrassing themselves.
Adelson News version of why he told Mark Davis to go to hell. It basically claims the Raiders increasingly thought they could dictate the terms of the deal and Adelson felt his money was being taken for granted.
I’ve heard there’s truth to that. Basically the Davises have no money so they needed Adelson to build the thing, but they were trying to dictate terms and not give him any ROI.
Well, the rest of the historical context matches, so why not…
we apologize, it was meant for our anthem
I mean, the guy is a teacher, what can go wrong…
i’m not a niño torres devotee, but this one has to be seen.
Half the time I miss the link … can we give the link text a higher contrast, NM?
Just set it to underline. Happy to hear other suggestions instead.
Looks good.
Significantly better. Thx.
Thanks, and go As.
Excellent – thanks (though it doesn’t seem to work in the body of the post).
I think the call is more spectacular than the goal!
Where to even begin with this? The combination of recklessness and access-peddling on display here is beyond belief.
But email servers!
every day a new horror
I still can’t get over him doubling the club membership fee after the election. Can’t say he’s not delivering the benefits he was implicitly offering up!
Gotta keep out the riff raff when you go there 3 or 4 weekends in a row.
Thanks, and go As.
Today was so well planned, Reno to San Jose to Kona on Alaska. Took off from Reno late, but with just enough time to make the connection. Circled down around Gilroy for a bit, San Jose was fogged in. Plane returned to Reno, so got to see the snowy Sierras twice! Waited two hours in Alaska customer service line, but, will now be leaving Reno at 2:45 p.m. (previous was 6:00 a.m), get to go to Seattle, then on to Kona, arriving at 11 p.m. Hawaii time rather than noon. So, 19 hours from original departure to new landing, the next 3 of which must be killed in Reno airport. I think it will be worth it though.
Yeah, the South Bay was socked in today until about 9:00 am. Saw the remains of at least one accident in Santa Clara on Central Expressway which was likely due to morons driving too fast for the conditions.
All in all, I rather be on the way to Kona.
And who wouldn’t love a surprise trip to Seattle? It’s a gorgeous late afternoon, spectacular view of the Olympics, definitely an open-roof night over at Safeco Field.
After I got ensnared in a Delta meltdown last summer I swore the next time I would immediately rent a car and just drive as long as it takes. That might not work for you though.
Could be worse
Back in 1979, I was on a flight (Pan Am – ugh!) from SFO to HNL. We had an engine “backfire” (that’s what the pilot called it) as we were taking off, so we circled for about an hour while he dumped fuel so we could land. I’ve always assumed that all jetliners have dumping capability, but from the comments on the thread, the capability is limited to the largest airplanes, so a similar event today is most likely to result in wandering around for hours until the airplane is light enough to land safely.
The pilot was obviously circling around until her or she drew a passable penis.
If you have to circle for 4 hours anyway, why not just complete the flight?
All the prospect lists are coming out:
BA: 40 Barreto, 83 Puk, 84 Cotton, 94 Chapman. (101 Montas)
BP: 47 Barreto, 60 Holmes, 61 Puk, 86 Montas
Sickels: 12 Barreto, 51 Puk, 77 Cotton, 80 Chapman, 100T Montas, 141 Holmes, 152 Gossett, 180 Olson, 189 Nunez.
For perspective, in Sickels’ list the #28 prospect is a B+, and #200 is a B-, so the differences in rankings mostly don’t amount to very much.
Thanks for posting. A couple items of note:
The BA team list for the A’s goes:
Baretto, Puk, Chapman, Cotton but in the top 100 list Cotton and Chapman get switched.
In response to a reader question about Chapman, Craig Goldstein said:
Also, from Sickels:
Also in Sickels comments:
I just have a hard time believing in Chapman. That strikeout rate is not just bad, it’s astronomically bad. A 30% K rate in AA and AAA is so hard to overcome that I can’t see the power or the defense ever coming into play. And it’s not like he makes up for it by walking a lot. A 10% BB rate in the minors is pretty meh.
For comparison, Chris Carter struck out about 20% and 25% of the time in AA and AAA, while walking around 13% of the time.
I guess he will probably start the season in AAA, right? Probably a make-or-break year for him.
Designated fielder?
Thanks, and go As.
This tends to be my thinking as well. My only reason for optimism is the league wide increase in K-rate. We may start seeing some of these guys who K a ton actually start to be successful.
Also, Carter has really under-performed his MLE’s in the majors. Maybe we get lucky with Chapman?
wow, so many good 4th outfielder choices.
Smolinski is a decent platoon guy as long as you really use him that way and don’t try to play him every day (.796/.557 last year, .866/.570 career). So he will probably end up playing every day (cf. Valencia, Sogard, etc.).
Rajai as full-time CF seems like the bigger problem though.
zomg! can i have almost $20 million? (and maybe some raccoon traps?)
Obligatory photo of my dog dressed as Little Edie.

i mean …i meant to do that.
He should play Melania.
Very interesting that “he lied to Pence” is the supposed proximate cause of Flynn’s fall. Pence trying to distance himself and his future administration from the Trump crowd is going to become a theme, I bet.
I find myself wondering what would have happened had Agnew not resigned before Watergate.
That’s probably a pretty good guess, though Bannon would seem to have an interest in keeping Trump in as long as possible. What galls me is can’t even own up to it, saying he “inadvertantly” didn’t mention discussing sanctions. No republican official in memory has ever taken “personal responsibility” for FKing up, and it looks like that’s going to continue.
The press briefing going on right now is unbelievable. What a fucking disaster.
Oh man.
He’s already looking for someone to pardon Trump?
Trump: “Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.”
Bush: “Yeah those legs. All I can see is the legs.”
Trump: “It looks good.”
Bush: “Come on shorty.”
Trump: “Oh nice legs huh.”
Bush: “Get out of the way honey. Oh that’s good legs. Go ahead.”
Trump: “It’s always good if you don’t fall out of the bus. Like Ford, Gerald Ford, remember?”
True. Burkean restraint!
(or, rather, it’s the final straw a month after DOJ tells Trump about it…)
this puts the lie to it all.
relevant question i’d like to know about:
what contacts between flynn and PEOTUS/PEOTUS team between the 5 sanction phone calls
But Spicer said Trump was “unbelievably decisive.”
To be fair, everything about him is unbelievable.
*cough*
Lies and the lying liars who tell them.
Didn’t he call Flynn in the middle of the night seeking economic advice about whether a strong or weak dollar was good?
and we have found the problem
It is Game of Thrones up in this B.
Uh oh!
Appoint a special prosecutor, offer this dude immunity for obstruction of justice, and let him spill his guts.
Who exactly is going to appoint the special prosecutor?
The DNC baby!
Sessions!
There may be a few holes in my plan.
Getting closer though…
If you’re counting, that brings us to two appointees we already know lied under oath at their confirmation hearings.
why disclose that? it’d be merely anecdotal.
Wait, make it three.
you sound like the man with no name in a fistful of dollars.
Probably!
That’s the information he was given, anyway!
I agree that its the truth that he testified.
Rod Rosenstein
Welp
*throat clear*
Pence playing checkers while Bannon playing Chess. Pence wonders why Bannon won’t king his pawn.
Barcelona is playing wonderful soccer today. #alternativefacts
I don’t know if I can recall seeing them get beaten up like that.
Thanks, and go As.
Dude, when they say that about you at the freaking DUKE
I was surprised to click through and find this wasn’t about Grayson Allen.
This is how the world ends. With a Trump’s nuclear bang actually, but you can’t hear it, because you are laughing too loud
Fucking Australians.
Can’t trust an article that confuses disgusting vegemite with delicious marmite.
Vegemite really is disgusting, isn’t it? Not sure I’ve ever had marmite. Also not sure why anyone kept developing spreads for toast when butter and various jams already exist.
Not sure about developing – brewer’s yeast has been around for a long time.
My mother-in-law once bought me a vintage pot of real English marmite as a holiday gift, not noticing that it had been opened and half-consumed some time in the 1970s.
Or she did notice and was trying to kill you.
Had it gotten any better in that time?
It had dried out, so it was grainy rather than smooth, but nothing was growing on it!
…during ragtime?
I’m trying to imagine what it would be like to have sex to that particular piece, and I just can’t.
Oh, wait. I just got that. Duh.
I don’t know if anyone even cares or reads this, but I am leaving Emergency nursing. I start OR work around the end of March.
Cool. Burned out on ER, fascinated by OR, or just time for a change?
1. I wasnt given a promotion a few months ago. They gave it to someone else, and said I was the lesser of the two candidates. Since that time, I’ve worked 1-2 days per week for the person who was promoted. They said “in hindsight we made the wrong decision.” Too late.
2. The ER was moved and remodeled. It’s less efficient and I hate it. I have to do five more steps to do the same tasks I used to. The vital sign machines are shit. They don’t work properly and are brand new. It’s frustrating, and no one was listening to my complaints.
3. I felt like a babysitter to my so-called “superiors”. Thousands of dollars are being pissed out the window and again, no one was listening to me. My director laughed when I brought up the problems.
4. My BFF works in surgery. I need to be around quality nurses again. Where I can learn and not walk behind the circus and clean up the elephant shit every day.
5. Surgeries are badass, and I wouldn’t have to work 12s anymore. Long hours occasionally? Yes. But not constantly on my post-op leg.
Con: working 5 days a week.
Sounds like overall for the best. Plus, my sister (a surgical resident) would say that you also get to actually make people better in surgery, but then maybe she’s biased.
I like that the patients are unconscious the majority of the time I’m around.
Yeah, that too.
When the patients wake up they tell me I’m beautiful. A 94 y/o post op patient kissed me last week. It’s a great ego boost.
age ain’t nothin but a number.
Thanks, and go As.
woohoo! regular schedule!
Congrats and good luck with the new gig!
