The ball is really carrying to left.
Solo HRs by Gattis, Healy, and Maxwell (first career, and oppo).
I think musgrove is a planning commissioner in San CArlos
are we seeing the end of Vogt in Oakland?
Is there a market for 32 year old ‘decent’ catchers?
Thanks, and go As.
Coliseum PA just played the Dead’s Fire on the Mountain. Never heard that before. Also wondering if a reliever really wants to hear that before he pitches.
Madson responds with the A’s play of the year, pitcher’s division.
Then stinks up the joint in the 9th.
A bloop that a good RF would have caught, a grounder to where the 2B abandoned to cover the base, and another grounder up the middle against a drawn in infield.
Meh – you and your logic can’t change my irrational game-thread-emotion hate.
I’m actually more pissed that the A’s couldn’t get anything off of Son of Gregor.
Also, FK Houston.
colume?
Neal?
does the a’s medical staff know signs of a stroke? cuz i think bob may have had one
holy shit, the giants are trying to cough up another one
Success.
can’t blame jario tonight
Gotta love the brain cramp by Pence after boxing that ball off his arm, then forgetting to throw it back in.
just saw the replay, first, he should have had it, second, yeah, that was bad.
I mean, if they get the out, its second and third one out, in the 9th, with no bullpen.
Do we agree they officially now are #TD? I almost feel like there should be a worse name for them, But fuck the Gnats, someone at McC can come up with their own name.
rangers got jobbed but won anyway
Rickey, 130, and the “unwritten rules”.
What he did not mention is the fan riot that followed that last game against the Tigers.
Speaking of, someone just posted this full broadcast of NBC’s Game of the Week on 5/22/1982: A’s at Red Sox. Rickey steals two bases.
There is a weird incident where Mike Heath says something to Jim Rice on his way to the mound for a chat, and Rice follows him with the bat. It apparently had something to do with the Red Sox accusing Bo McLaughlin (who???) of throwing a spitter.
Same user also just posted the full disco demolition game.
thank you for that. gives me a reason to my previously irrational hatred of Sparky anderson

They really shouldn’t have turned their account over to Donald Trump Jr.
I already vented on FB about this.
While yes, this is funny on a KKK front, the rest of the article is just stupid.
His name is Kike, not Kiké. At least I have never heard anyone call him Kiké. Not Vin Scully, not Dodgers public announcer, not anybody. Putting an accent in there to make it look different than a slur is in fact changing your name to something what it is not. It’s the same as spelling it Koke.
So, while I laugh at the unintentional stupidity of KKK, I am truly unnerved by sanctimonious “journalism” of publicly shaming people without knowing the first thing about the topic on hand.
méh.
not unusual. falls under a special category of transcription/transliteration, bringing in a new word that looks just like an old word. and trying desperately to differentiate.
the funny part is that the impulse to add the foreign character is kinda right, but instead of reinforcing the correct sound they totally botch the thing into something even the original users don’t recognize anymore.
’cause, why not go for kÃke, máte, et cétera?
Did anyone else read this article about buying a mattress online? Speaking as someone who has purchased a mattress from Sleep Train and taken advantage of the returns policy, I’ll admit I never really thought about what they do with the rejected mattresses. I guess I thought they had a big warehouse sale of returned mattresses where you could buy them for a few hundred dollars. But Jeez!
there was a story the guys at the dump i worked at in seattle always told. There was a seattle matress company that advertised never throwing away mattresses. they made a big selling point of it, putting it in tv commercials.
Till there was a story about the dump and while they were interviewing the head of the division on the open face with that companies truck clearly in the background unloading mattress after mattress.
i for one am shocked i’ve heard all sorts of investigative podcasts about the right price for a mattress and the practically negligible amount of formaldehyde it may gas off, but none about its demise.
though frankly, i’ve caught myself wondering… how DO you stuff the thing back into that tiny box to ship it back home? HOW?
Evidently it’s not that easy!
They’re planning to build this thing right next to the existing one? What a waste.
“In preparation for these proceedings, in fact, a security employee actually tested the idea.”
Christ, what an asshole.
“Justice Peter Doody”
That’s some sexy mud.
I’m still not sold on Manaea’s stache. Nice pitchin tho
this is ridiculous. did they change the rules? you don’t have to continue the play?
I like it better
That protest was winnable (would have had to restart this game in the third inning tomorrow and then play the regular game, if the Astros win tonight) but the double play effectively nullifies the protest.
Also the A’s are gonna win this anyway,
“The next time your Kia needs an oil change, ask for…”
-Bizarrely niche A’s radio ad
Hyundai/Kia make a good car, and they’re are selling a lot of em.
I would like some early pie, please.
shit
that is not the right kind of pie
i mean, I don’t know how to judge these games. it seemed like COtton’s best game, but the Astros strike out a lot. Manaea seemed better too. I bullpen gave up 5 runs in 7 innings. one by colume/neal so that barely registers.
on the other hand, the offense….
I really thought Smolinski was going to come through there in the 9th. Looked like he was seeing the pitches really well, had some strong cuts.
yeah, that foul ball…
I believe Ken has the weekend off, and Roxy has football assignments, so your A’s radio broadcast team for the Texas series is Vince Cotroneo and Chris Townsend.
Yuck. Someone stop Mulder from leaving town and lock him in the radio booth.
If they don’t announce a sub-10K attendance today it will never happen.
i blew it by setting one matter on calendar today.
I really wanted to go
Yeah it looks mighty sparse.

They have announced eight smaller crowds this season.
Astros TV comparing Altuve to Kelly Leake, misses point that Leake was a dick.
And had wonderful hair.
Lousy breaks for Mengden, dubious ball four, cross-up wild pitch, groundout scores the run.
Yeah I don’t know what happened on that WP, but Maxwell did him no favors by stabbing at it.
Got rocked this inning.
I thought Alcantara was safe according to Mattress Firm Super Mo, but not conclusive is reasonable.
There appear to be an unusual number of Blue Jays fans in Seattle for their game today. British Columbia roots for the Jays it would seem.
And they watch Josh Donaldson don the goat horns.
That was weird. The ball looked like it was snug in his glove and the runner didn’t kick it out.
Killer loss for the Mets.
Recker?
He barely knew ‘er.
Cespedes had a game winning homer beautifully robbed with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. He also had one a couple innings earlier that looked like it was going out, but Kemp pulled it back (and dropped it).
This whole NL wild card race is quite the battle of suck though. I would argue that the Mets look the least sucky of the three.
Well this has become sad and scary, Mr. Mayor.
SBN finally paying blogfathers?
Thanks, and go As.
“This is a contractor position that pays a small monthly stipend.”
So no.
You can always take a job with the team on the side and just not tell anyone.
TIL: Vox Media Editorial Director is named Lockhart Steele. How the FK is he not a porn star?
Slusser fires one last excellent shot at Butler at the end of this.
Not to defend Butler in any way, but it’s probably more fair to use starts (22-37) vs. non-starts (44-49), where the difference is not quite so extreme. Teams are more likely to pinch-hit or substitute when they are behind than when they are ahead.
Live Brazil vs. Pakistan WBC qualifier action
Pakistan’s caps are nice.
Pakistan’s not doing so hot, but considering that their manager says they are relying on “cricket players who can throw the ball 90 mph,” I’ll cut them some slack.
The other two teams competing for the last spot in the 2017 WBC are Great Britain and Israel, the latter of which has a very fringy A’s minor league pitcher named Joey Wagman.
Cool Deadspin piece on baseball in Pakistan.
Twitter live-streaming NFL games is an interesting development.
H/T Slusser. I love Vin but am sort of avoiding linking Scully stuff because so much of it refers to “The impossible has happened!!” but this is pretty sweet.
Schlong, playing behind Brett Anderson tonight for however long that lasts, promptly gives Mr. Scully a chance to call one of his errors.
He should give Scully the chance to call one of his hits, it’d be more rare.
Is he going to end up getting more than the lowball offer he turned down to stay in Oakland?
I’m still expecting Baltimore to make a huge offer. Maybe $70M/5 rather than $90M/6.
what a fantastic shirt
ugh. third time trying to write a pie-related sean thompson lookalike joke. can’t quite get it / can’t let it go.
I FEEL LIKE A PIG AND TENUOUS JOKES ARE MY TRUFFLES.
The 2016 team’s home record is 33-45, which includes 7 series lost by sweep.
Their final win total will be between 33 and 36, and here’s where that will rank in Oakland history.
43. 1982: 36-45 (.444)
T44. 1977: 35-46 (.432)
T44. 1997: 35-46 (.432)
Join The Party In 2017!
LOL, Cruz is pathetic.
Nice timing on this endorsement, Ted.
Master politician.
The cuba stuff has to be a particular gut punch for him.
Again, Ted: Well played
Trump must’ve grabbed him right in the pussy.
