All you Manny Machado fans should enjoy this.
Monday 7:05: Kendall Graveman vs. Kevin Gausman
Tuesday 7:05: Zach Neal vs. Wade Miley
Wednesday 7:05: Ross Detwiler vs. Yovani Gallardo
Thursday 12:35: Andrew Triggs vs. Chris Tillman
And now for our theme song:
I wish they would stop trying to make Max Muncy, 2nd baseman, happen. The guy has never broken a .800 OPS in either AA or AAA. There’s no reason why he should be in the majors over Alcantara, or even Wendle.
Lew is Seldom Scene anymore. With Fisher taking over the point on the stadium, I’m wondering if Lew, who’s 81, might be having health issues.
I can’t remember seeing a sac fly to the first baseman at any other ballpark. It seems like we get about one of those a season. Blue Moon Odom wishes that had worked out a little better in Game 5.
I didn’t realize the full telecasts of most of that Series are now on Youtube (what isn’t on Youtube, I guess). I should watch some of that over the winter, or even tomorrow night instead of the Zach Neal start. Final play of Game 5.
He bumped the ump pretty hard!
if morgan doesn’t slip, he is out by 5 feet
Damn, the RFBs are really empty.
During the Steve Boros/Jackie Moore portion of my peak bleacher days, this was the time of the season when I would look at three straight days of work –> A’s game –> sleep –> repeat and go, uh no. And the bleachers were only $3 then, maybe even $2 for the first part of that.
I didn’t realize Butler had his own line of dolls:
As fun as it is to rip on him, he’s .324/.395/.495 since June 1, with only 4 GIDP. That’s kind of what they hoped they were paying for. Granted, they thought they were paying for twice as many PA; Melvin has made some decent lemonade out of the lemons.
on cue
he has cleared waivers by now
so, graveman is the only Major league pitcher on the staff?
A Madson blown save tonight would not be a good idea.
that machado guy is pretty good.
ok then, there is the mistake that opens the door
or not
yay
Probably best to head off into the wilderness for the next 3 days.
why? overton’s not itching
pitching
never in doubt
Professional baseball was going to be my fallback career too.
I never got there because I only passively pursued it.
After motivational speaking, you mean?
Meh – couldn’t be bothered with that.
Words to live by!
Do any of you use a cloud backup service that you particularly like? I’ll admit to my current backup strategy being a complete shambles, and I’m making it my mid-year’s resolution to get things organized!
https://www.crashplan.com/en-us/
Thanks, and go As.
This is what I use too. Factors in my decision were: (1) cost; (2) accessibility of docs online; (3) capacity.
Their software is seamless, downloading docs is easy (even on my iPhone), and it’ll never yell at me for dumping another iPhone full of photos.
Do you have the family plan, then, so you can backup multiple devices? I’d love to be able to backup my computer, laptop, and phone. I like the sound of seamless.
We don’t. I just have it on the home PC, and dump pictures from all our other devices onto it (and its external hard drives). Free iCloud covers the rest of my phone, since I don’t need to keep pictures/videos there.
I only have a work laptop, with nothing on it that requires backing up. If I had another personal device, I’d have to decide whether the inconvenience of transferring actually-important stuff outweighed the additional cost of a second plan. And thats coming as someone who once paid four figures to recover a dead hard-drive with the only copies of all of our family’s photos on it.
So the docs from an external hard drive need to be transferred to the computer before being backed up into the cloud? That might be a step too far for me. Or maybe I misunderstood your comment? If you plug an external drive to the computer, can those be backed up to the cloud using the “one computer” plan?
No, one computer plus all hard drives connected to it works on the single plan. Adding a laptop would require a bigger plan.
That would be ideal then. I think I can live without the laptop backup as I can just save all files in future straight to my external drive when I’m working in my laptop.
Thanks!
OK Fellas,
I signed up for Crashplan and have two new questions:
1. When you first registered, did it take a LOOOOOOONG time for the initial backup (meaning days and days?) After that, is it relatively quick for it to just sweep for new content?
2. When it was doing the initial backup, did it ever crash your internet connection? Mine keeps going down and I have to keep unplugging and replugging my modem and router to reconnect. Although I have quite an old modem, so maybe that’s the issue? My router is new.
1. Yes, and yes.
2. I couldn’t say, but it’s very possible since you’re doing a significant amount of uploading.
Thanks, and go As.
What internet service do you use? Most have *much* higher speeds pulling than pushing.
Sonic.
Yay!
but yes, it’s going to take FOREVER to upload.
Thanks, and go As.
This exactly. But keep in mind it’s just running in the background so you shouldn’t let it impact your other plans to use your internet.
Yes I’ve been using internet as usual, except that over the past 2 days, I’ve had to reboot at least 6 times, which is not normal. Normal for me would be several times in 6 months.
How big is your initial upload? You might want to try to get onto a better network for that one, and then just do the increments from home.
i don’t know if it’s placebo, but i plug in the ethernet cable when i do major uploads and it seems less frustrating.
It’ll be more consistent and have less interference.
So crashplan is no longer offering consumer backup??
Obligatory.
[slits wrists]
this is my job now. making those vapid explainers.
Yeah. I’m starting to try to figure out what to do.
One thing I’m doing right now is uploading my photos to Amazon (because there is free unlimited storage for Prime members, and those are the most important data on my system).
I really don’t like Amazon’s software, though. It looks like the best solutions are either (1) for complete novice use: Backblaze; (2) for people willing to not get locked in by inertia, the Carbonite deal they’re giving is a great price for a year; (3) for people who just want a data dump site and are more tech savvy, it looks like there’s huge lifetime savings in buying some form of backup software (Arq and Cloudberry are names I’ve heard, but I’ve done no meaningful investigation) that manage backing up to an Amazon Glacier account.
I’d definitely be interested in others’ thoughts.
are you sure about definitely? because my thoughts are mostly, “meow meow meow, meow meow, meow. meow meow meow, meow meow, meow.”
Very… interesting…
Pretty sure this means AV is hungry.
CLOSE!!!
Jharel Cotton is pitching well.
The list of all time PCL perfect games is a veritable Who’s That
John Halama!
and John Wasdin
I’m liking the Luis Tiant no-hitter in 1981.
Alan Foster throws 2 within a month of each other. Both against the Seattle slegnA and both are 1-0 games. Sweet Jesus!
Also, if it weren’t for pitch counts, I’m sure I would have seen one in 2007 at Whatsthematterwith Timmuhs last game in Fresno. 6.1 no hit innings in a 7 inning game. Pulled for pitch count. Of course he walke d2-3 and hit at least 1 IIRC, but no hitter still. The bullpen promptly gave up a hit and made me ready to go home.
Well that figures.
Slusser jinxed him.
Sounds like there was some gamesmanship after the second out of the inning.
I guess Kubitza wanted to go out in a blaze of, uh, glory.
Life comes at you fast.
Meawhile…
good to see they got valencia in on Jewish heritage night
Zach Neal is pitching well.
Darn.
That’s more like it.
I’ll take that start from our number n starter any day.
So what would Trump have to say
(i) to get the GOP mainstream to disavow him?
(ii) to face any kind of legal consequences?
(i) “We still haven’t recovered from the damage Ronald Reagan did to the country and the world.”
asvd
well, so far hinting at espionage bordering on treason and then also suggesting assassination hasn’t done the trick
Thanks, and go As.
Every time I think “wow, they might actually get to 100 losses” they go and win a couple in a row. I do still think 94 is the right number. Ray, how much does it suck to lose to Zach Neal?
tnever bet against zach neal
now. ross. detweiler.
TIL Ross Detwiler and Ross Ohlendorf are not the same person. But they have been on the same team twice.
Do they shop at Ross?
never bet against ross detweiler.
now. andrew. triggs.
make the team that cut you pay
I gotta believe, absent any effort to confirm, that the A’s are the streakiest team in baseball.
yay.

The definition of worst hitter in the league depends on where you set your plate appearance threshold. But we can call someone a candidate if there is no one with more plate appearances and worse stats. Candidates for worst hitter in the AL:
Jered Weaver, 9 PA, .000 wOBA
Matt Dominguez 12 PA, .057 wOBA
Brendan Ryan 14 PA, .068 wOBA
Tyler Ladendorf 44 PA, .077 wOBA
Carlos Sanchez 63 PA, .150 wOBA
Dustin Ackley 70 PA, .192 wOBA
Ryan Hannigan 102 PA, .199 wOBA
Chris Coghlan 172 PA, .215 wOBA
Yan Gomes 262 PA, .220 wOBA
Billy Burns 297 PA, .245 wOBA
Alcides Escobar 490 PA, .257 wOBA
We’ll stop there as that is enough PA to qualify for the regular leaderboard.
Name the A’s.
Not Rickey.
That I went 3 for 3 with 30 seconds of thought tells me I’ve watched too much lousy baseball this year.
The willingness to watch crappy ball is what separates us from Angels fans
What’s the matter with Sonny’s arm? “Everything.”
Why is
Mr. WrightHenriques back on the job? If he didn’t trust the players before, that feeling must be mutual now.I love that Tommy John is apparently like Macbeth, and can only be referred to in circumlocutions.
Wow
I believe the Rays, Twins, and Angels are the teams that have waiver priority over the A’s currently. But hard to see the A’s claiming him even if they do get the chance.
He’s in the final year of a contract worth 9 million this year, so no chance we touch him.
huh
Just missed the list thanks to Alcides Escobar.
Routine 4-9-6 fielder’s choice.
I’m so glad Sogard should be at full strength for the start of spring training.
I think we’ve found an early favorite for the 2017 Cy Young Award. Either that or the Orioles hitters can’t hit their way out of a paper bag right now.
yay..
This series has felt like a gloriously sunny and warm day in January.
I guess I should ignore the A’s more often.
Thank you, Summer Olympics!
3-2, 2-1, 1-0. Not sure we can keep this progression up.
TWHS
Baseball is weird.
4-3 victory?
8-7?
Winning 3 of 4 and outscoring the opponent by -1 or more would be fun
10-9?
hellA teAse
i just stepped out of court to hear the ball being hit up the middle.
can we have burns back. no. strike that…anyone?
wow. I turned it off too quickly. i didn’t know they ruled hi safe
Peak Perseid meteor shower tonight if you can get to somewhere where there’s little marine layer/light pollution.
crap. i thought it was tonight.
still going though. where’s a good spot?
It’ll still be good tonight.
oh good.
Did you try the sky?
Thanks, and go As.
It’s good to be Vince.
