I predict a 4- A’s victory.
4- ?
I SAY WHAT I SAY!
And we love you for it.
vince is trying to convince us that despite the fact its essentially the sounds v the best team in baseball, the a’s have a shot!
this is a lot like the overton game that av and I went to
Overton represents the range of pitching performances A’s fans will accept.
no big deal. we all know lester can’t hold a lead
Yeah we have him right where we want him.
That caught stealing is just salt in the wound.
i agree vince, the pirates radio guy calling sean rodriguez “serpico” is pretty cool.
Good thing I’m ignoring this game tonight.
home plate umpiring has been suspect
we was robbed
Julian Assange speaking to the Green Party convention from the lam to try to motivate deluded left-wingers to help Trump become president is just perfectly disgusting.
Don’t worry, he’s got some REALLY GOOD STUFF he’ll leak… someday
So they’re at 3 starting pitchers (Gray, Graveman, Manaea) and 9 relievers, unless Neal is counted as a starter and I certainly hope not. Lowrie, Doolittle (last game June 25) and Phegley (last game July 1) all look like candidates for the 60-day DL if they are looking to sign this year’s versions of Felix Doubront and Cody Martin.
My guess would be they’ll fill those spots by giving Mengden another chance and taking a look at Cotton. Both are already on the 40-man roster, as is Raul Alcantara.
Ken and Vince said something about them being concerned about fatigue for Mengden and cutting back his innings. However, he’s listed as the Sounds’ starting pitcher tonight. R. Alcantara comes to spring training out of options, according to your list, so even with just 3 AAA starts I guess they had better take a look. They weren’t able to hang on to Tepesch, gosh dang it, but Detwiler is around as a junk arm to fill some August and September starts.
I can never remember the exact rule, but I would guess Alcantara will be eligible for a 4th option year.
This must be the rule you’re thinking of (MLR 11(c)). 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016 would definitely count as service years; maybe he squeaks through with under 90 days in 2011 (71 days from June 23 to Sept. 3).
With Gray leaving early today, could TIMMEH be “this year’s version of Felix Doubront and Cody Martin”?
Oh hell no.
It’s not just the A’s having 52 games to play. The Sounds have 29 more regular season games and will make the PCL playoffs. That is a LOT of innings left to cover given the status of the organization’s starting pitching. Lincecum is cheap and they can’t turn up their nose if he is available and healthy.
Also, a comment for Aces, while I’m digging through minor league stuff. The Sacramento River Cats are in last place in their division with a 53-62 record, and are averaging 8304 in attendance at Raley Field. They got an attendance boost in 2015, going from 8561 in the A’s final season there to 9338 last year. But the dropoff this year gives them lower average attendance than in all but one of the A’s seasons in Sacramento.
that is delicious
Fresno has dropped as well, though not as much. And they still have their biggest crowd of the year coming up. And, if they can get some pitching, the fair weather fans will come out to see them clinch the division.
Their drop doesnt surprise me. I really want to address this in about 3-4 yrs when winning in Sacto is just a distant memory.
That would be almost as bad as Zito last year.
Chris. Smith.
graham godfrey?
See what you get for sneering at Lincecum?
Dan Meyer is younger than Chris Smith.
can we get huddy?
:-O
Fortunately, they have a backup plan.
I wonder is Brett realized that you could land on the DL with a blister?
I suppose we’ll find out tuesday
“wait, i dont need to break my back?!?”
The Cubs definitely got the worst of it with the uniforms today.
Theirs look like kiddie jammies. And the pants are giving Arrieta’s bum a weird white shine.
Dave Cameron and the deadline.
take away is he liked the A’s move and thought the trading partners of the Giants did well
its time for the every 5th day convincing myself that sonny has figured it out in the first 3 innings.
It may not take the full 3 innings to get a “No” on that.
its the curves in the dirt that are the bellwether
I was worried he would do his Brian Kingman impersonation today, but so far it is more Matty Keough.
72 pitches and done…oh noes.
Art and Billy are cursing at someone down there right now.
HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO WIN WHEN DAVE FUCKING HEAVERLO AND JEFF FUCKING JONES HAVE TO PITCH FOUR FUCKING INNINGS?!?!
we haven’t had tagline worthy comments in a while. Kudos
better to take out your 5th starter out before he coughs it up in the 6th
vince says sonny is more of a “pitch to contact” guy.
I’m loving these on screen graphics!
The A’s do TBTC very well. The one thing they dont seem to do that seems so easy-change walkup music. (this really is just an excuse to remind everyone how tired you are of Vogt’s music..)
I turned off the audio a minute ago
Jorge Soler doubles on a sharp ground ball to Thirdbaseman Ryon Healy?
ok then
A 1979 Turn Back The Clock Day would have been more appropriate this season. They could limit ticket sales to 2500. Maybe they can still do it in September.
sorry, no, this is a taglinable comment.
Fun attendance facts about 1979, in which the A’s played 77 home dates with 4 home doubleheaders:
Announced crowds under 1000: 2 (smallest: 653)
Under 3000: 48
Over 10,000: 5 (3 of these were vs. the Yankees; largest: 19,538 for a doubleheader vs. the Yankees)
Liverpool 4 – Barcelona
No need to play the season – let’s just award everything to ‘pool.
I think that just means that they’d win La Liga
Thanks, and go As.
I was wondering why Rickey wasn’t at the 1981 reunion…he’s at Griffey’s number retirement ceremony at Safeco Field.
LOL. “And lastly, Rickey, you were the Greatest. Today, I am the Greatest.” I’m glad Rickey laughed rather than charging the podium.
Bases loaded, no outs, Yonder Alonso says “I got this.”
[utting in a new kitchen sink. I am not unhappy with the game
Shouldn’t that have been {utting?
Maybe
The Cubs tossed the broom aside and got out the
Looking at the rest of the schedule, I see two fireworks nights plus a series against the Red Sox as games which might draw decently. The Coliseum figures to be a sad, deserted place the rest of the time.
Renewed effort for that DoctorK vote.
I love my family on the east coast but I will never ever fly back to see then again. Next reunion I’m hitchhiking.
You forgot to FSU!
Woyld have required a Free Not-Delta Upgrade, alas.
I’m United.
I always love this. “You thought we were awful today, here’s a voucher to see us be even worse next time!”
someone’s dragging your name through the trash.
I like the 150 foot triple or the 3 doubles within 110 feet
There’s one single off the wall in right. That must have been a hell of a throw to get him.
Ik,r?
Picked a bad color for #3000 – makes it look like it was a double rather than a triple.
paul molitor thruther
Hurry, tickets are going fast!
I am excited,
Looks like I am getting manaea on friday
I’m not usually into rooting for draft position but with this rotation, that’s attracting my attention. The A’s beat the Twins on July 4 and were 8-1/2 games ahead of them at that point; now the A’s are only 3 games ahead of the Twins.
Neal tomorrow.
Throwing up Graveman, Neal, and Detwiler against the O’s should be entertaining.
Don’t forget Triggs!
Thanks, and go As.
It can always get worse.
That made me laugh. Then throw up in my mouth a little.
Spent this entire series with fingers in my ears going “lalalalala”.
Hey Ed (or any of the rest of you FKers) do you know anything about civil subpoenas?
I got subpoenaed for a harassment case by the plaintiff, who is a woman I barely know. (She emailed the non-profit I volunteer for offering to help with a fundraiser. We exchanged several emails and two phone calls and that was the extent of our interaction.) She is under the impression that two men are stalking her, and somehow these men may have contacted me about her and that I have some emails or something between the two men and myself. Neither has ever contacted me in any way.
Here is what the subpoena says:
I wrote a letter to the judge saying under oath acknowledging penalty of perjury that I had never been contacted by either defendant or their associates and that I have no documents relating to the case.
Should this satisfy the requirement, or do I actually need to show up in person as well? It says I do not have to appear in person if I produce the records, but since I have no records, that’s where I got a bit concerned what is required of me.
Shoot the photo didn’t come out very clear. Let me try again!
Nope, can’t get it to come out clearer.
I am not that kind of lawyer, but it looks like you aren’t ordered to appear.
how did you get the subpoena?
Two guys from the sheriff’s office showed up at my house.
ok, so that is good service.
I It looks like they want production of evidence, I don’t know exactly what the rules are for that. Maybe remind me over the weekend.
OK will do.
The document says I can ask the plaintiff if I need to appear, but I’m a bit leery of doing that because she is clearly undergoing some mental issues. She’s emailed me multiple times since I sent my letter to the judge and CCd her as instructed. Each time she says “Please forward the emails from the defendant to the judge and to me” and each time I reply “As I clearly stated in my letter, I have never been contacted by the defendants and have no such emails.” And then she just replies back “OK great thanks! But if you ever do find those emails, please send them to the judge.”
It’s crackers that she thinks the defendants would even know who I am since I have had only the sparsest of contact with her. I’d rather try to figure out from a stable person if I need to appear!
I know entirely too much.
If it’s true that you have none of the documents they request, it would appear that sending them a response saying so should satisfy a non-appearance subpoena. (that said, to be clear, these are general thoughts on civil discovery, not an evaluation of your case)
Understood on the general thoughts–that is what I’m looking for. I know there’s no way for you to know all the details and give a full evaluation. I was just hoping for a bit more clarity since I’ve never been subpoenaed and the language is somewhat confusing to the layman. So thank you!
You could also try calling the attorney who subpoenaed you (assuming she’s represented) to discuss. If they say “never mind” a confirming email from you should resolve the whole thing.
She’s representing herself.
Why doesn’t that surprise me …
There are rules about valid subpoenas. Non-attorneys need someone with authority to issue them.
Hmmm. Her name and home address are listed under “Attorney or Party without Attorney.” Then at the bottom it is issued by a guy named Wayne Parinas, Court Administrator.
No idea who he is, but may be ok.
i trust my investigators, but damn is they don’t have a lot of blank subpoenas with my original signature
this kinda sounds like a waiver.
I am thinking you may be able to send a letter/email to the judge and her saying “I understand this to me I am not needed at the hearing”
but I have to think about that a bit.
Would this type of judge have a clerk of some sort who handles the administrative stuff?
I phoned and spoke with the clerk a few days ago and he was very unhelpful. At one point he vaguely implied that if I sent the letter I wouldn’t have anything to add if I showed up in person, but when pressed to be more definitive about whether I was required to appear, he wouldn’t commit either way.
They never do.

notbelieve my last kafkaesque hour trying to file a paper motion in a satellite court.Clerks can’t give legal advice. Not their fault.
no.
refresh the thread, ed
I feel pretty good about not showing up in person. My statement was very clear and included the oath part, so I think that should satisfy whatever questions they have about my lack of anything to offer.
