Can’t call them the Lastros anymore. A’s need to win today, or they will become the Lastletics.
Putting this up just in case people actually still want to comment on the games.

Oh yeah, A’s are actually leading for now.
i need to make dinner or something
i like the way [future prospects] has been pitching so far
I read that Hanwha paid the Rangers almost $100 K to release him from his MLB commitment. Texas paid Oakland $20 K to claim him off of waivers.
The A’s can’t win for losing…
Horseshit home plate ump tonight.
Coco will probably get suspended for that too.
but he was smooth about it
This was Coco’s 71st game appearance. He needs to play in 59 of the final
7576 for the $13M vesting option to kick in. He can’t afford a suspension, and any DL trip would be fatal. When, not if.
Thanks, and go As.
coco
alanso
well then. I hate saying “that escalated quickly” but it really did
Unusually, the radio is behind the TV broadcast, not ahead of it, allowing me to pause TV and sync up the radio play by play. Of course I figured this out in time for the Vince inning.
surprised burns knew how many balls it takes to walk
At least he’s into double digits now…in Game 86.
It reminds me that I was curious about what Daric Barton is up to. .255/.410/.500 playing every day for the Pericos de Puebla, where Travis Blackley and Chad Gaudin are teammates.
They’re getting the bad back together!
Hee
How dare you! I have a picture of Daric Barton on the wall of my office.
So he’s still playing baseball for a living and we’re still talking about it on the internet.
Hmmm.
Thanks, and go As.
I knew Barton hadn’t signed with any MLB organization; was mostly just happy to see that he is still in baseball rather than, say, working the drive-thru at the Buttonwillow In-N-Out.
neshek to alanso seems like a bad idea for the astros
line drive in the box score
Alanso is hurtish
Nice! We’ll probably win the next three into the break, before going 0-6 after.
They could push back Hill’s next start to as far as Tuesday the 19th, and that’s the plan I heartily endorse for coming out of the All-Star Break, if he hasn’t been traded in the next week.
He should absolutely be traded in the next week.
Thanks, and go As.
“Oral history: How David Ortiz became a Boston legend”
Nope, ESPN.com. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.
Did they forget that Bill Simmons doesn’t work there anymore?
Do you think they’ll talk about that time he beat a guy to within an inch of his life in the Dominican Republic?
Thanks, and go As.
mengdens friends look really young
Catcher triple!
Vogt just needs to do it again today to complete the cycle.
a triple from vogt, and a semien!
I know lineup order rarely matters even on good teams, but it still pisses me off that Melvin is still writing in Semien 8th or 9th behind Butler and Alonso. The guy might jack 30 this year.
but but but, he won’t be relaxed there! no pressure in the #8 spot!
nice bat flip on the oppo single by valbuena
if burns doesn’t steal here he is more useless than butler
2 run rally killer by alanso.
so you gguys are missing a fun 9th
Wow this is great!
Corpse jumps out of coffin.
and settles right back in
Team Dynamite, move over for Team Rocket Fuel
…not quite
never mind
Well that was unrewarding.
Wow this sucks.
so there was the benefit of the SB. Correa wasn’t out.
of course as I type this the walk off was hit.
I ain’t even mad
That was quite the cement mixer from Madsen, as Shooty said. I could have hit that pitch with Bea Arthur’s dick.
Wheee!!!!!
Source: FanGraphs
Is that Bea Arthur’s dick?
It was entertaining, that’s about as much as I ask for the rest of this season.
yeah, more of these games less of the santana game
Can we just trade everyone now?
Give it a week, most will be gone…
You hate to see that.
Pom-pom is an All Star.
By fWAR, he’s the 8th best pitcher in the NL. Ahead of people like Greinke, Scherzer, Wainwright, deGrom.
But he’s only a bit better this season than he was in his two seasons with Oakland. He’s getting a few more strikeouts and is getting more groundballs/fewer HR. But the big difference is that he’s doing it as a full time starter now, and he’s already at 102 IP (only had 155 IP in two seasons for OAK).
Is he better than Yonder Alonso?
heh
Meathead!
kendall graveman?
Where has he been all season?
As we are about to be deprived (relieved) of the 2016 Athletics until next Friday, some numbers heading into the ASB:
Per Fangraphs,
* Oakland is dead last in the AL in team offensive WAR
* Oakland is 2nd to last in the AL in team wRC+ (I assume the difference is that the team who is 2nd to last in oWAR (the Yanks) and last in wRC+, have a sizable edge in base running [Per FanGraphs].
* Oakland is dead last in the AL by a significant margin in team defense as measured by UZR.
* Oakland is 12th in the AL in pitching WAR. The starters rank 13 in the AL, while the relievers somehow rank 9th.
Per BBRef,
* Oakland is last in the AL by a pretty wide margin in WAR from non-pitchers
* Oakland is 9th in the AL in total WAR from its pitchers
* Oakland is 14th in the AL in total WAR. Suck on that Minnesota.
I do not really have the stomach to compare this team against the lows of the Geren era, but did any team from that dark period suck this badly?
Only because it’s the easiest number to pull out of BRef:
So at least by that measure last year was Geren-esque, but this year they’re flirting with late 90s ineptitude.
semien seems pretty good
2.2 WAR
Addisson Russell is at 1.6 and an all star.
Thanks, and go As.
Russell being an all-star over Crawford (among others) is a joke, but setting that aside, Russell is over 3 years younger than Semien.
if this year’s semien on defense is the true semien, the results of the smardjiza deal are easier to swallow.
but still
i give semien a break on that error. yeah it was a bad play, but that happens.
and also, thank you leagues leading hitter, thank you for bunting twice
Way to make your run stand up, Sean.
single e 8
it went through 3 people
Throw.
Strikes.
at least now that semien is dave concepcioning his throws, he isn’t throwing the bad ones into the seats
well then. still have time to get triggs his first win
hendriks has a plane to melborne to catch
what a terribly played game.
Except for Manaea and I suppose Keuchal.
there is that.
and axford
sorry guys, there will be one comment this week
he’s gonna have to get more specific than that. unless he’s lumping tijuana cesar salad with acapulco shrimp cocktail with jaliscan red mole, not to mention the gulf east coast with the caribbean east coast.
in my experience, there is a gulf between west coast and east coast. but I haven’t tried east coast mexican since Wil Meyers was pooping his pants on the regular
I made the mistake of getting a burrito in D.C. on a visit in 1995 and swore never again. Damn thing had white rice!
I got guacamole in Boston that appeared to be green sour cream.
Boston mexican food is the worst. I wouldn’t even wish it on Red Sox fans.
ISWYDT
This must be the most passive-aggressive trade demand ever. He plays in San Diego, for pete’s sake.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone hit a ball harder than Stanton
Thanks, and go As.
Totally agree with these.
Absolutely. Half (or some lesser fraction) of a top 4 media market is way better than 100% of a backwater like say San Antonio.
Not just “top 4 media market” (technically #6) but also #1 in median household income.
I assume Oakland and Tampa Bay will somehow have new baseball parks in the next 10 years. MLB’s problem child over the next decade will be the dying hellhole of Cleveland, which is the #85 metropolitan area in median household income and where the new ballpark scam has already been played out. Their attendance has been at the bottom of MLB for a number of years. I wouldn’t be surprised if Indians ownership starts looking covetously at some of the areas that combine income and decent growth prospects which haven’t been mentioned a lot, such as Austin, Raleigh-Durham and Salt Lake City, which will also be expansion targets after Oakland and Tampa Bay are resolved.
why is trumps campaign manager so concerned with the A’s?
He’s looking for things he can talk about without getting sued by Trump.
DMOAS!
are they french?
thinking about this, this reinforces young white males are bernie bros.
I knew there was some reason to like this Manfrenjensenden guy.
I mean, it should have been obvious for quite some time that MLB would have to be nuts to let the Bay Area with all of its riches turn into a one-team market. Once the A’s leave, the Giants are never, ever, ever letting the American League come back.
It’s time for Upgrade to fulfill his destiny…and the perfect place is for sale right up the street (this is why RE prices use “median” rather than “mean”). Full agent’s listing here.
Yup, that’s your grazing meadow:

Can I have $59M?
I will offer them 1% plus half of my future horse racing winnings.
FKwiz. Who’s the A?
You could have given me unlimited guess for a week and I would never have gotten Jeff Newman.
Yep. I never would have guessed he was an All Star anywhere-even at his house.
That team was the gold standard for shitty A’s teams. This was a perfect argument against the requirement for every team to have a representative.
Initially I thought it was Matt Keough, one of your Aces!. But he went in 1978, slipping to a 2-17 record in 1979.
It amazes me the record some of those Aces had over the years. Brian Kingman is of course my favorite when we speak of W-L records. (Was going to leave off his first name, but didn’t want anyone thinking I’m sending rats as gifts, etc.)
didn’t he start 0-15 or somehting
0-14, with his first win on September 5th!
He was an All Star for the same reason he was manager for a week. Someone had to do it.
That was what I was going to mention. Most well known for the week before everything changed.
