I did not forget the game, quite the opposite. Like any sane Tahoe local I love living here 362 days/year but I get the FK out for July 4 weekend, just hoping the idiots don’t burn the place down. The game got me from about Salem to Grants Pass on I-5.
Yes, that is a completely different issue at Tahoe vs. in San Francisco. I live in a townhouse development which is roughly 1/3 full-time residents, 1/2 second/vacation homes and 1/6 dedicated to vacation rentals, so 2/3 are vacant much of the time.
The vacation rental people are usually paying $250-$300/night and up for high-demand weekends and they are very respectful. The people I notice are the cases where Mom and Dad have the vacation home and give the keys to Junior for a weekend. Junior invites a couple buddies and all of their girlfriends for a weekend of PAR-TAY AT TAHOE!! It’s only a few days at a time, I notice, but I’m pretty good at rolling over at 3 a.m. and going back to sleep.
Barnes maybe, but Barnes AND Bogut is less clear. I mean, Bogut played several minutes this season that made him look like the best center in basketball.
"There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want"
Checking with Nashville to see if they pulled Overton so he could be the 26th man and start Game 2 (10-day rule waived for that as I understand it)…no, he’s pitching for them tonight. Also noting that Max Muncy is in the starting lineup at SECOND Base.
For a team that’s 80 games under .500 or whatever and selling at 50% capacity, I don’t get screwing your fans over with a late-night start or the day-night doubleheader crap. Play a doubleheader tomorrow, give the fans with tickets to tonight’s game a raincheck, get a few people to use their rainchecks for some September game that would be attended by 6000 anyway…it’s not hard.
When I take an A’s road trip and the last game is a day game, my preference is not to have a scheduled flight out that night. Would rather stay over and fly out the next morning in the event of a long rain delay, or a day-night doubleheader being scheduled from a rainout earlier in the series. I scheduled it that way with the recent trip to Cincinnati; it was a 1 p.m. game but the flight out was not until the following morning. Last year I went to a series at Target Field where the final game was at noon local time and I did schedule a flight at around 7 p.m., and it rained some that day. We got the game in and it turned out I made the flight with no problem, but it’s not a very good strategy.
How’s the forecast the next few days? On Oakland’s only trip to town maybe they figure they have less than 72 hours to get 3 more games in, time of day be damned.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
Indeed. And call me an Eeyore if you must, but it’s hard to imagine playoff implications dictating a one-game Oakland return to Minnesota in September.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
Oh come on, they could play at 9 a.m. in Minneapolis and then 7 p.m. in Houston.
I would like to see some elimination of day-night doubleheaders in the next CBA, play more straight doubleheaders when they’re necessary, but there’s probably too much money in it for that to happen.
One thing about a bad team, it gives a lot of guys the chance to make the Crash Davis “Yeah, I’ve been to The Show” speech on a bus traveling across Texas 8 or 10 years from now.
This is still less frustrating than Team Dynamite, because those guys (especially in 2014) were supposed to get people out for a winning team. These guys this year just suck.
Also, I find their TD exploits less of an issue because they have been so abused by the starters this year. Last year it felt like they were continually given a lead and needed to get 5-6 outs against the bottom of the order and it would all go to crap.
This year it seems like they have to come in daily with 1 out in the 4th, bases loaded and Mantle at the plate. Eventually I expect any bullpen to crack with that. Especially now that the arms are starting to break down.
Santana’s 9 IP / 2 H / 0 ER / 8 K / 0 BB line works out to a game score of 98, which is the best in MLB so far this year. For comparison, Arrieta’s no hitter earned a game score of 89 on account of 6 K / 4 BB.
Wait, now?
i give you a pass. probably experiencing a few PTSD symptoms from the samardjida/lester trades

Yeah, but did you AirBNB?
i get short term rentals. I get that in resort towns like soakers.

“the a’s just didn’t have the urgency to turn it”
no vince, it was a bouncing ball far from the bag. i will call lowrie out a lot, but there he did everything right
ken says burns is 3rd on the team with ab.
I was hoping that it was only because he never draws walks, but he is tied for 3rd in PA too (with Coco).
Just get an out, Ryan
yay
We got this?
We got this.
I sure hope so.
Seriously, though, a noon central start the day after an afternoon west coast game? That’s silly.
Looking forward to tuning into KNBR tomorrow to hear what moments in Giants/49ers history Durant-to-Warriors is most like.
Cody Ross off waivers in August 2010 … greatest ever Giant.
KD!
think he’s an upgrade over Barnes?
Thanks, and go As.
Barnes maybe, but Barnes AND Bogut is less clear. I mean, Bogut played several minutes this season that made him look like the best center in basketball.
As much as I like Bogut, he has a tendency to get hurt and miss time at the worst possible moments.
I’d say if he hadn’t gotten hurt, GSW probably wins the finals.
Thanks, and go As.
The weather goddess expresses Her opinion of having to endure another A’s-Twins game:
But worst of all…
and for the double header, fans will be instructed to cover their eyes

there are TWO bases????

Oh isn’t this so fan-friendly. JUST PLAY A GODDAMNED SINGLE-ADMISSION DOUBLEHEADER TOMORROW.
starting at 10 local time?
fuck that

A’s are in Houston Thursday, so it’s really 24 hours to get 2 games in.

When it comes to electoral fraud, Chicago and Boston are hard to beat.
boss tweed wants a word
Hey, that guy looks like sslinger!
Ouch!
Could be worse. You could look like me!
Sano seems really bad at 3B. Like, even worse than our infielders.
A Semien!
At the risk of belaboring the obvious, why is Butler batting 2nd?
Also, is it just me, or is Glenn’s description of Millone’s 2012 playoff start somewhat overly complimentary?
6 IP, 5 H, 6 K, 1 run = pretty good in my book.
Also, Al Alburqueque can kiss my ball(s).
For some reason, I thought he was charged with the runs caused by the Coco bobble. That was pretty good.
it wasn’t bad.
i had blocked that game out though
Wow. I had forgotten how bad that all was. Doolittle and Cook both blew saves and then Balfour lost the game.
vince, greg smith was not traded for matt holliday
None of the AD (Anno Donaldsonium) pitchers really inspire much confidence going forward, except possibly Mengden, IMO.
meh, can’t blame wash there
it’s incredibly hard
Thanks, and go As.
TWSS.
sean manaea says we wil not have extras tonight
The new guy failed to deliver the Schutdown inning.

The 2016 Oakland A’s will inspire the next generation of bush leaguers. Touching, really.
The hotels all have room service, the ballparks are full of opossums, and the women all have long legs and brains.
nothing ’bout, you hit juiced balls for batting practice?

This. I go in with 0 expectations and am pleasantly surprised sometimes.
Also, middle fingers to the CSNCA staff for posting a graphic of top BA since 5/30 and including “Donaldson-OAK” on it.

Ervin mother fking Santana.
hey, so gray can pitch sorta OK against terrible teams. Good to know
100 pitches exactly!
