Um, so to speak.
Meanwhile, in the other Queen City, our once-again Ace Sonny looks to regain his mojo.
Also, go Warriors tonight, horses tomorrow, and Sharks Sunday. And also USA, USA on Saturday if you’re into that kind of thing.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
Khrush back today:
And Valencia.
And no Coghlan.
It would be weird if Coghlan was in our lineup, no?
Just had to make sure this was not one of my nightmares.
Our long regional nightmare is over.
Max Muncy…rightfielder?
I’m going to regret saying this: but can he be any worse than Coughlan was? #curseofgrantgreen
As bad as the A’s have been, the Reds have been significantly worse! What a shit-tastic matchup this promises to be.
Thank you to whichever FKer fixed my links, I can’t get the hang of selecting a range of text when posting by phone.
I figured you were phoning it in.
I(still)BISV
Sounds like the old Sonny was finally found in Cincinnati?
Of course this makes sense. I have to pick up the eldest Ace from the airport so I am chilling at work waiting for him to call rather than sitting at home watching the game.
And now “interesting stuff” is happening in said game. Do I need to stay and let kid rot at LAX until “interesting is over”?
you are free to go
And we clearly are an AL team as Semien steals second to allow the Reds to IBB Muncy and get to Sonny with 2 outs. SMFH, but the SB will look nice on the back of next years baseball card.
Or it was a spectacular vote of no confidence in Muncy and a way to avoid having Sonny lead off the next inning.
There’s no actual downside to the successful steal – they could always walk the #8 hitter anyway if they wanted to. Though it does make the reward/risk ratio of a steal attempt pretty low.
in 2014, the inevitable HPB to cozart and 2 run HR by votto in the 8th would be demoralizing
A’s failure to score more runs with all these baserunners makes me nervous.
some shitty defense later….
Yeah, Valencia needed to make that fking play.
Relevant
Dear god.
They can’t hit either. With a collective wRC+ of 88, and the aforementioned atrocious defense, this is probably the worst collection of position players in the Beane era.
Fortunately we have five aces to rely on.
I’m good, but not sure I can save this dreck…
They went 0-for-25 with RISP, capped off by the failure to score after the Davis/Alonso suckgasm on the bases. I figured Gray would pitch 8 no-hit innings and then Madson would give up a bloop and a blast to lose. This team sucks.
I like this ballpark much better than Milwaukee’s. It’s supposed to be about 90 degrees with 90% humidity the next couple days, almost literally. The local weatherman had his chart with rankings 1-Comfortable to 5-Oppressive and he highlighted the 5. We’ll see how I feel about the ballpark by Sunday afternoon. I’ll like losing the 10 pounds anyway.
three games, three late no hitters
First quarter McAdoo minutes.
does this mean i get free tacos?
Kerr seems to figure the more active defensive presence is key.
Fourth quarter McAdoo minutes!
And pretty effective at that.
i like the symatry of migdin facing former minor league phenom straily tomorrow
successful butler PH appearance. no dp.
He thoughtfully kept his AB to one pitch to spare us.
Curt Schilling and John Rocker already furiously writing their speeches.
OK, I think I have my Belmont ticket together, if the track stays dry. There’s thunderstorms around, and if the track gets soaked before the 3:32 PDT post time all bets are off.
Live odds here.
I like Governor Malibu (1), Destin (2), and Suddenbreakingnews (4) as nicely priced shots to fill out a Trifecta. This race often goes to the horses who can sit off the lead and save ground with tactical speed. If Exaggerator (11) falters–three races in five weeks, long mile and a half sandy Belmont track, no slop–there’s money to be made this way, I think. $3 Trifecta Box 1-2-4 for $18.
More likely and thus safer, a $1 Trifecta Box with 1-2-4-11 for $24.
Also putting a straight $5 Win bet on Gettysburg (6), the one true early speed horse here. If he sets a pace and no one chases, maybe he goes wire to wire at really big odds.
I may also add one or two other $5 Win bets: Considering Governor Malibu (1) and Lani (10) if they’re around 15-1 or better, and Suddenbreakingnews (4) and Creator (13) if at 10-1 or better. Will update.
If it’s wet I’ll either lay off entirely, or bet a few $10 Exactas with Exaggerator on top and a couple of the above below.
Not my best Triple Crown season.
Creator at 16-1 didn’t make the cut?
Actually I wasn’t going to say so, but I did add late $5 Win bets on Gov Malibu and Creator. Made my day almost a wash. And Gov Malibu had a great shot, made an inside move with power with about an eighth left but got blocked.
I will never forgive Straily for putting up those gaudy K totals in the minors, making him untouchable in any potential deal for Hanley.
Wow, Mengden is the whole package: Rollie mustache, high socks, and big hands over head wind-up.
Yeah, I’m pretty much in love with this guy.
In a season devoid of exciting things about the A’s, this guy could be fun.
He looks like Bryce Harper’s brother.
Hi Aces!
DMOAS!
Gurty!! Im sorry about your stupid foot. :(
Max Muncy, rightfielder.
OMG Billy Butler I hate you so much.
didn’t see the play, but a agree
Struck out looking bad to end the game.
I thought it was swinging at a pitch in the dirt.
[Edit: Oh, “struck out, looking bad” not “struck out looking, bad.” Right.]
i remember this story
Thanks, and go As.
They’ve shown themselves to be a 100-loss team without Reddick, and I figure a re-signing would already have happened by now, though the All-Star break would probably be the absolute deadline. So don’t rush him, make sure he’s completely healthy and able to demonstrate that he can be productive for somebody in August and September before bringing him back. His departure, plus Hill being either injured or traded and a couple departures from the bullpen should get them to the 100 losses, which requires 37-64 from here to the end.
One more game to go on this death march. I’m glad I did my homework and had lots of interesting non-baseball stuff planned.
Maybe Graveman will attempt to repeat this day in baseball history, 1970.
And if so, these hideous Cincy camo jerseys should provide an excellent target.
i can’t think of a worse uniform
A Semien for Marcus!
We will end this losing streak with Semiens! Lots and lots of Semiens!
John Lamb looks like he could’ve been a member of Styx.
oh vince. stop analyzing pitching
“confidence, such a finiky thing”
oh jed
Yay! And holy crap was it hot.
OK, Sharks, let’s keep this going.
Nice to see Mike Ricci still defines the phrase “Hair Farmer.”
dammit
Nice effort by the Sharks, but it was obvious Pittsburgh was the much-superior team in this series.
R.J. Alvarez claimed by Cubs, which means a) 28 other teams passed on him and he almost made it through; and b) Chicago fans now get the chance to yell about Jon Snow.
Why don’t the A’s ever have Old Timers games? The one the Yankees just had sounded cool. I would make a point of going to the Coliseum for that far more readily than I would a bobblehead or socks.
Too many people to invite? Worried we would have to put them all on the DL by the time it was over??
Fear they would outperform Butler?
Worried Ryan Langerhaans wouldn’t show up.
Rajai Davis’ agent would have to tell them he was still playing
HOME JERSEY!
Thanks, and go As.
They had them back in the 80s. The only foul ball I ever caught was during one.
I have no idea who Andy Grammer is, but that national anthem was truly awful.
It was so bad!
Really bad. I googled him and it did not further illuminate.
J Mack minutes.
Playing next to Ezeli! Kerr is really letting it all hang out.
this thing is so fixed
Are you aware of this guy?
heh.
i was out of the room. was that called a flagrant foul?
No, stayed a common foul.
Interesting site.
Um… what?
Thanks, and go As.
If Manea misses his next start with “forearm tightness”, the A’s should ask for a refund.
