The Green, Gold and Purple look for the series sweep at Yankee Stadium. Coco is in the starting lineup; he seems like one who would try to get a little purple into the uniform mix.
The A’s get their first look at the latest Highly Touted Yankees Pitching Prospect, righthander Luis Severino. Mark Canha finds a spot in the lineup for just the second time in the last 13 games, while Butler continues to gather splinters in his butt. Game 16 represents the completion of just about 10% of the season, meaning the Butlerometer is down to $19 million remaining.
Burns CF, Canha 1B, Reddick RF, Lowrie 2B, Vogt C, Coghlan 3B, Davis DH, Crisp LF, Semien SS. Hill SP.
Nice tribute from wunderground:
Cool
I think we may need a game by game update of the Butlerometer.
Three batters, three Ks. OK Rich Hill.
And follows it with 2 walks. Typical.
Next inning he’ll hit three guys.
Um. That was insane.
What happened?
Runners on first and second no outs, there was a one-hopper behind second base that had ticked off of Hill’s glove. Lowrie grabbed it and could have flipped to Semien at second because A-Rod was still 30 feet from the bag. Instead he did an acrobatic jump throw to first that somehow got there in time.
Jeter tribute
Pretty curveball.
Do the Yankees have the hardest throwing staff in the league? I feel like the A’s haven’t seen a guy who can’t throw 95 this entire series.
Yup hardest average fastball velocity in the league so far this year. And Chapman hasn’t thrown a pitch yet.
I believe in Stephen Canha. I believe in Stephen Canha.
We Canhaz home run!
Butler becomes just a bit more irrelevant.
Oh come on Jed.
Khrushed!
what?
kHRis!!
no
Crisped!
you guys are fking with me now
Oooooh me likey.
no no no, you guys aren’t fooling me
Cocrushed!
Coco hitting a ball that far right handed gives me hope.
all of you are in on it?
That may be the best fk line yet.
taglined
I was thinking, Bob is showing a lot of confidence in Rodriguez here, I guess he’s moved up in the pecking order. Maybe not ready for prime time just yet though.
Nice escape act Ax!
Arrieta’s pitching well.
2nd no hitter.
Some Cubs fan managed to run onto the field and join the congratulatory scrum before getting hauled off by the Cincy police.
Yes, by the usual idiot-on-the-field metrics that guy scores quite highly.
I know it’s the Dodgers, but very well played:
The Reds weren’t far off, either:
This is excellent.
Yay obviously, although that stadium gives up some ridiculously cheap home runs to right field. I wish they would take out the first 5 or 6 rows of seats out there.
Canha, Khris, Coco Crisp, and Chris Coghlan.
I’m liking this “win all the road games” strategy. If we can also win 10 home games we’re playoff bound!
Coco is maybe has the best approach with two-strikes of any Athletic I can remember.
They’ve all had some really good at bats this series. It’s refreshing after all the frenetic swinging during the homestand.
Thanks, and go As.

“It looks so easy when you play the game the way the A’s are playing it right now.” -Al Leiter on YES just now
You’re gonna break Ed.
i hate you guys
Hendricks seems like he would have fit in better in last year’s bullpen.
6 IP, 15 hits…
The lovely purple glow of victory around the A’s, ugly black and blue on the Yanks’ side.
Fun series.
the first day of the separated bike lane on telegraph is causing much confusion. a car just assumed all the parked cars were stuck at the light ahead, and tried to use the bike lane, which it thought was a row of miraculously empty parking spots, to very slowly reach a spot halfway up the block. a longboard skater behind the car said F it and took the car lane.
there are very cute xeroxed paper signs on sawhorses with arrows pointing to where you bike and where you park. not sure who’s supposed to see them at that size until you’re already doing the right thing.
further up, the light-up sign announcing that there is a new bike lane… is set up across the bike lane.
[puts on helmet] [goes the opposite direction]
heh
FUCK. we needed him to be a thorn in the blue jays side as punnishment for letting him go
so instead of releasing bulter….
porque no los dos
Thanks, and go As.
Oh and the Giants got swept at home. That doesn’t suck.
Who’da thunkit?
I know one who didn’t.
toronto with gray, bassitt and surkamp/Hahn? ick
I may have to start polishing some Golden Eeyores.
I think I know what I’m doing, yeah
doesn’t always work
watching nashville.
You taped the Predators game?
pinder not having a good game with the glove
Legitimately thought you talking about the Robert Altman film.
I thought he was talking about the Connie Britton/Hayden Panettiere vehicle.
The W’s are playing poorly, have trailed by 10-15 most of the way, no Steph, yet I still think they’re going to win this game.
Feels that way, doesn’t it? I also think Howard is going to get ejected at some point.
Important MacAminutes
Yeah, he looks good on defense, and stays out of the way on O.
Gah it was right there.
The inscription on my headstone is going to be “CATCH THE FKING BALL”.
Felt it right up to the end. Inexplicable play by Draymond didn’t allow for a final shot, so we’ll never know. Let’s take care of this in five, please?
Still on a 105-wins pace!
I think Vin Scully has been hanging out with Monkeyball. You know who else has birthday today?
Sending the Yankees to last place in the AL East is a nice bonus.
“I’m not taking pitches right now,†Davis said. “You can’t get hot taking pitches.â€
man’s gotta have a code
Say what you will about the tenets of National Sciosciaism…
I wonder if any pitcher will actually decide to throw him more balls because of this. I would, because I think he is completely serious.
another fire. maybe somebody should investigate.
That’s interesting.
US citizens need passport for Canada?
As of a few years ago. Did not used to be needed.
I’m surprised it’s not standard procedure for some team official, presumably the traveling secretary or minor league equivalent, to keep all the passports. In addition to Toronto issues, AAA teams make most trips by commercial flight, so a player who loses his wallet probably also loses his driver’s license and would be unable to travel with the team.
Since the current ID procedures were implemented, anytime I fly I take my passport and keep it separate from my wallet, usually sticking a backup credit card in there as well.
that sounds… like an employment law violation. to collect passports
How would you avoid that Ed, because I think it does make sense. Would it have to be voluntary? Have a player responsible for it? I’m just guessing here…
They could just take Billy Butler’s and lose it just before going back to the States
Just drop him at a Tim Hortons and peel out while he’s picking out his dozen.
