      I don’t often let the entire neighborhood know what I think of something in an A’s game the way I did with Coghlan/Wash.

      Empty seats, sloppy play…you may be on to something.

      I might go back later tonight and listen to the John/Suzyn call of that inning. They’re pretty funny in those situations.

    Great throw/tag

    • 5Aces Apr 20,2016 6:40 pm || Up

      Stat cast clocked the throw at 105. something. Fastest recorded throw they say. So yeah…great throw beat him. Tip your cap.

        And it only beat him because of a pretty brilliant tag by McCann. He slapped his hand away just as it was going in for the plate.

  8. Glorious Mundy Apr 20,2016 5:28 pm

    Welp, this is a little early to lose the DH.

      When you have a completely dead spot on the roster, whether paying the minimum or $10 million for it, this is part of the price.

    No chance Reddick sees a strike here.

    • Soaker Apr 20,2016 6:01 pm || Up

      Thinking through that situation again, I saw Canha play some 3B in the Cactus League last year and he played 2 innings there in a mop-up situation early last season. They might have tried that for an inning or two, then used Coco, Butler and Phegley as pinch-hitting options after Graveman is done.

        I have $5. No I don\'t.
        • Soaker Apr 20,2016 10:34 pm || Up

          In fairness to Melvin, I thought about Canha at 3B 20 minutes later. Valencia made the last out in the top of the 4th so Melvin had about 2 seconds to find out Valencia couldn’t continue and then decide how to proceed. What he did was logical…but I think upon reflection, you suffer through Canha defensively in the bottom of the 4th to protect Reddick in the top of the 5th, and maybe after that do the Coghlan/Lowrie switch losing the DH, since by the time that spot in the order comes up again you’re in the bullpen anyway, and pinch-hitting.

            Reddick in the top of the 5th only if you get runners on. but yeah, its a lot of chess moves ahead

    Win or lose, at last ESPN finally fired Curt Schilling. Good fk’ing riddance.

  12. Glorious Mundy Apr 20,2016 6:14 pm

    Impossible to tell for sure on TV, but the atmosphere in this new stadium seems totally sterile and sleepy as compared to the old place.

  13. Glorious Mundy Apr 20,2016 6:32 pm

    Out of the baseline again?

    • Glorious Mundy Apr 20,2016 6:34 pm || Up

      Can you go that far onto the grass?

      • Soaker Apr 20,2016 6:36 pm || Up

        Not out of the baseline IMO. Runner has a bit of leeway to avoid a tag. That was both tag/no tag and was the batter/runner out at first. Could have been 0, 1 or 2 outs. I’ll take the 2.

      Given the choice I would hope they go Ladendorf just because I think he can play more defensive positions. I’m expecting a GG type performance either way, so at least lets get some off days from it.

          No, I dont actually think that. I was just living in a hypothetical world. Like when you think about what you would do with all of those Powerball millions.

          I reality, all the SPs should be taking BP because we will somehow pull our DH in the 4th of every other game now.

        Sorry Aces. That’s how I’ll be when Morrissey dies. He’s probably an asshole, but I’ve listened to his work and The Smiths more than any other artist by a country mile. Plus the animal rights stuff grabs me, obviously.

        I’d actually be curious to know among all you FKers, who is the musician/artist/writer, etc who would upset you the most when they pass? Bill King obviously and I think most of us will have Roy Steele on there.

          David Byrne better not go anytime soon!

          But on another level, with the intimate music venue and family friendly space Phil Lesh has created at Terrapin Crossroads, filled with great music and warm vibes, he has become by far the most accessible of all musical heroes in my life. It’ll be a real loss when he dies, even if TXR continues on.

            Jerry was the tough one for me and will never be matched. I listened to “Brokedown Palace” a lot in the next few days. One thing about that though, even though he was only 53, on the Shock Meter it was only about a 7 out of 10. Anybody who saw them at all in ’94 and ’95 knew he was a mess. I had feared he would keel over on stage in front of 75,000 in some hot, humid East Coast football stadium.

            • sslinger Apr 21,2016 12:26 pm || Up

              Oh yeah, Jerry was rough, and I totally get you about it not being a shock. But even as I still get sad that he’s gone, it is also true that the music never stopped. And as I said before, the creation of TXR has really placed the relationship (real or perceived) with Phil on a different level than with the band up on stage at a stadium.

          I was thinking about this. I dont think there is any other singer or actor I will feel this way about. I may be shocked, I may be sad, but not just..whatever it is Im feeling.

          Bill King was this and I think the only other person I might feel that way about will be Rickey. I cant even comprehend that one ever happening.

          In the past, Jerry Garcia and Bill King were the two who that really got me.
          Not sure if there is another celebrity on quite the same level. Neil Young is probably closest.

          i feel cobain more now than i did back then. esp from the perspective of my peers who went through depression or other issues at that age, and how they figured out their correct diagnoses or their chemistry balanced in their 30s, and are now totally in stride looking back at a steep hurdle but one they got over. and how many truly amazing albums he could have made in those two decades and would still be putting out now.

          that is, if he did it himself. relevant. (toward the end, the story about courtney.)

            Oh I thought it totally appropriate.

            And I tripped when I realized it’s April. In the somewhat underrated “Under a Cherry Moon” (It’s not actually good but it is not the train wreck most believe) his character, Christopher Tracy dies. And the song that goes with it has the following:

            I often dream of heaven and I know that Tracy’s there
            I know that he has found another friend
            Maybe he’s found the answer to all the April snow
            Maybe one day I’ll see my Tracy again

            Sometimes it snows in April
            Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad
            Sometimes I wish that life was never ending,
            But all good things, they say, never last
