hello and a pleasant good afternoon to you wherever you may be… it’s time to remember how to post stuff, game thread etc.
the game is televised by the angels. so you could see video if you choose. also the Bauncast which I assume it the other vince guy again. Hope springs something something!
to the line up!
Burns (he of Center garden)
Coghlan (god finds him at 2nd)
Khris Davis (DH. Should I add “Kris” to my dictionary?)
Yonder Alonso (1b barton is looking for a job, kid, make an impression)
Semien (SS, hopefully he’ll stay in the 5 hole all year)
Lambro (LF who?)
Muncy (3b, look you knew I was going to fk it up somehow, so I edited it in)
Maxwell (C starting with injuries to vogt and phegley, yay)
Fuld (RF 9th? hopefully he’ll be pulled before his AB)
P Surkamp (naturally)
Hooray!
Surkamp doing the pitching.
LOL just noticed the tags…
No 3b person?
Maximum Muncy
gak
Good lord, The angels color guy has fosseitis. “one thing we know is x. and One thing we know is Y”
He should have done that and listed every single thing he knows one by one.nn1
First the earth cooled…
bingo!
does MLB really think peach colored mic covers that are tiny are a good idea to put on white people?
it looks like a lemmy tribute
I thought it was a mole for the entirety of that first ad. Also that music is going to drive me crazy before we even reach Opening Day.
why are all the guests dodger fans?
trout flags down a dying quail from burns. 2 pitches, 2 swings
ACK!
high 3 stripe socks on Khris Davis
did the sound go out?
Yep.
If Fuld is so plus-plus he should have made an effort to catch that ball maybe?
you know, one way to stay on the roster is on the 60 day…
Wait, I was unfair to Fuld. It was Burns who gave no effort.
Lam-bro!
soto gets on my nerves. stupid broken finger
I blame that on either Billy Butler or Jon Lester, depending on mood.
Marcus Semien desparately hopes that 5 hole does not mean what you think it means.
one more for bingo
way to go sam
doolittle doesn’t look that sharp
Looks like he is trying to throw right handed
ball kisser is with the angels. ew
Perhaps a kiss-off will be in the making in 2016?
Good to see the bullpen is in mid-season form.
With Coulombe leading the charge.
ASVD
nice
Sorry to screw your prediction up. I was enjoying my favorite type of food (free).
But I have gone back and participated retroactively.
Manaea today!
dammit. i have to go to jail
Can I have $200?
Are you aware that in the new versions of Monopoly, the currency isn’t in dollars? It’s denominated with a symbol that is an M with a line through it.
I was disturbed by this.
whut?
You should have hidden your bloody knife more carefully.
Dang, you’re quick.
7-0. Three-run double for Khris Davis.
Korach on the Buancast right now
He likes Manaea a lot
The quality of this Buancast is unusually high. This guy (Korach called him “Donnie”) is downright competent and he seems to be working with professional equipment.
Donny Baarns is moving from Class A Visalia up to AAA Omaha this year. What’s your backup plan, Vince?
He and Korach do have an easy rapport…
It’s probably not too early to be thinking of a succession plan. Korach is maybe 61-62 which isn’t ancient, but he’s had enough physical issues that he doesn’t figure to come close to matching Bill’s longevity. I’d like them to bring in a bright young voice to sit alongside Ken with a reasonable expectation of a shot at the #1 chair in 4-5 years.
The Dodgers’ heir apparent to Vin is Joe Davis, who’s under 30. It’s not impossible that they could go 100 years with two lead announcers. Of course Davis could succumb to Gene Bartow Syndrome in LA. The White Sox’ replacement for Hawk for their home games is Jason Benetti, who’s 32. Benetti was born with cerebral palsy and his wandering eye is a bit distracting the first time you see him on camera. I’ve only heard him a couple times on ESPN college football. Jessica Mendoza will be full-time on Sunday Night Baseball this year. So, fresh voices, yay!
1939-2016 isn’t anything to sneeze at for 2 announcers
Should also mention, in the “There But For The Grace Of God Go I” Department Of Not Fresh Voices, that John and Suzyn have re-upped after some apparently acrimonious negotiations.
i like listening to them
Same. They are million times more fun than any of those generic Midwestern homers on so many broadcasts.
The Nashville Sounds’ announcer is on the Buancast right now. He also wouldn’t be out of place in the Bill King Broadcast Booth.
Ugh, he just dropped a “the reality is…”
NEXT!
Forget it Donny, you’re out of your element.
Two scoreless innings for Dillon Overton.
Vogt’s playing! Yay.
And he got a hit.
Barreto homered in first AB, lined one off the pitcher’s foot for an out in his second.
THANKS BILLY!!!!
Double/Walk/Single for Reddick
A win
Also a loss
DL in 3, 2, …
Buy five TJ surgeries with Dr. Andrews and the sixth is free!
jared parker is paying off
It looks like the Donnycasts are free on MLB.com but the Ken/Vince/Ray broadcasts on terrestrial radio require a subscription to listen via MLB.com?
I thought I had solved this by buying Extra Innings at the class-action price through DirecTV. That includes a full MLB.tv subscription. Except…that “full” doesn’t include spring training. EI is a regular-season product and apparently I can’t activate the MLB.tv subscription until April even though I’ve paid DirecTV in advance for the full season.
Not a big deal, I’m not going to sit around watching random Mariners vs. Brewers Cactus League games just because they’re on. It looks like a drizzly, windy, crappy day and I wouldn’t mind hearing Korach today, but I guess not.
According to this there is no broadcast of any sort today. First 95.7 game is tomorrow.
Edit: But sfgate says there is a broadcast today.
sfgate is correct; my first Koraching of 2016!
Yes.
“Outside corner, ring him up, strike three called!”
I’ve missed Ken. (Not so much Vince and Ray.)
Yeah, the first Vincing of 2016 was less thrilling.
i turned him off
TWSS
I just realized that the MLB TV single team package doesn’t include a MLB At Bat subscription. So oddly enough, I can watch games on my phone but I can’t listen to them.
Just a heads up for anyone looking into that new single team package.
wait, what? is that why I couldn’t listen in my car the other day?
That “single team” package appears to be very limited. OK, the settlement says we have to offer this, but we’re not going to make it a desirable product.
At Bat Premium Features (Included with MLB.TV Premium):
Watch every available broadcast for Spring Training
Watch every out-of-market game LIVE or demand
Best picture quality ever (60 frames per second) for supported devices
PiP Access for supported devices
Follow every game with Gameday Audio, Gameday PitchFX, and in-game highlights
At Bat Features (Included with MLB.TV Single Team):
Spring Training: Watch every available broadcast
Regular Season: Watch only your favorite team’s broadcast LIVE or on demand
so confused, this is what my subscription says
LB.TV Premium Yearly
would think I get audio, yeah?
Premium includes the full radio broadcast package. In any case, the Internet-only spring training broadcasts are supposed to be free with just a login to MLB.com required, so if you couldn’t hear something that would be a “glitch” rather than a subscription issue.
Yep, the single team package does not include At Bat Premium, which is what Gameday Audio falls under, so you can no longer listen to games through the app.
They price At Bat Premium at $20 so if that’s important to you, single team ($85) + At Bat Premium ($20), makes less sense than simply getting MLB TV Premium ($109).
i can listen through the MLB.tv app on my roku
Greetings from Mesa! It’s a nice ballpark. Hella Brewers fans today. Toonces is sitting a section below me, wearing a credential 💩.
from 2014
It wouldn’t surprise me. He seems to be using it to big-shott the older guys who are ushering in his section.
“throw by lowrie not going to be on time”
over/under on hearing that this year? I’ll set the bar at 100…
I think this one was just a relay throw on a triple.
But there are double plays
fucking hell, ray…
So, I drove down to Phoenix on Thursday. Was there for a wedding in the family.
I just got home from flying back.
I did not see a game. I did not touch a certain (very, very, rarely around) FKer’s butt.
I have to chalk up the trip as a failure.
Thanks, and go As.
anytime you foundle dan’s ass its a good trip
Truth.
Thanks, and go As.
Another tater for Barreto!
HYPE TRAIN, CHOOOOOOOOO CHOOOOOOOOOO
Thanks, and go As.
” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen>
wat.
Thanks, and go As.
Potentially, like, in the 28th inning when Burns and Crisp and Reddick are all on crutches?
… of the season, you mean?
counter factual?
Vogt 2 hrs against minor league pitching. OK
Axford eh
screaming into the void:
Hey, a quasi baseball-esque product!
May contain traces of baseball
Legitimately encouraging news!
He’s 26 and we got him for Norris.
GOD BILLY THANKS A LOT.
Thanks, and go As.
Well… let’s see if spring-training 96 actually means 91 (and if he can hold up this season)
I also endorse this plan for Barreto.
so, scutaro?
Wait, we’re supposed to settle for just Miguel Cabrera?!?
Miguel Cabrera who plays SS and CF.
doesn’t that describe a 19 year old cabrera?
under semiens glove
A Pinder-Wendle middle infield today. Ah, spring.
Well, while it is not technically official, I can safely say:
” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen>
Staying in Fresno?
Oh no. The one thing I have known from day 1 was that there was almost no chance of me staying here. I may return if possible, because it’s home, but my path is leading away.
As of now it looks like I’m heading to the east coast. But I am also now making the calls to everyone that has been playing coy and telling them it’s put up or shut up time, so AZ, OR, or even the bay are still potential (though unlikely) options.
More to report probably Monday.
Sounds like good news!
i like the east coast, I don’t like west coast start times when I am on the east coast and have kids and a job
Doolittle strikes out three straight White Sox*
*I only recognize one of the names of these guys
And, then, the other Doolittle almost walks three straight. That probably would have been some kind of record there.
Matt Chapman homer off of some guy. 12-3 A’s.
This feels like “career over” to me.
It may or may not have ended today, but whenever it ends it isn’t going to end well.
I hope I’m not watching the night his arm detaches from his body and goes pinwheeling into the dugout. The specific physical stress of pitching is just a bad match for some guys; see also Anderson, Brett.
Dave Dravecky was as odious a man almost anyone I recall on the diamond, and I still wouldn’t have wished that end on him. I hope Parker heeds his body and gets out before that point.
Sigh.
I remember wishing that we got Bauer instead.
Thanks, and go As.
I remember thinking that Parker was a good investment because his TJ was behind him. How naive I was.
AND ALSO ahead of him.
whoops.
Thanks, and go As.
Well, we can hope.
maybe a bailey type situation?
That’s what I was just thinking. But GM’s larger point is #trufacts It is going to end like that, the question now is just if it’s today.
Rich hill is “working on things”
Pitchers IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Hill, R 2.0 3 6 6 3 2 1 18.90
but he gets trotted out again
Walk, Walk, Walk, Double, Homer in the first.
Speaking of the homer, it seems that Klay Thompson’s brother is on the Dodgers now.
Sounds like he is mostly working on giving up runs.
It’s working!
Neck exercises watching line drives shoot past him.
van slyke now misses a HR by “inches”
Coco also missed it by “inches”
deep sac fly to right
Rob Segedin lines out sharply, pitcher Sean Manaea to shortstop Rich Martin to first baseman Matt Olson?
i am assuming it was a sharp line drive toward second, but the ball got caught in the gravitational pull of Manaea’s hair, whipping around where it struck a charging martin, continuing its orbit around the pitcher finally breaking free after its first revolution and floating softly into Olson’s glove
Only plausible explanation
New Defensive alignment called straight up the middle.
either that or robert buan is now a stinger for MLB in Arizona
“Eric Sogard pops into a double play in foul territory…Billy Burns doubled off first.” Come on, man.
Midseason form
And there it is.
Damn
I saw something else on twitter saying that no pitcher has ever actually recovered from that injury.
Thanks, and go As.
Poor guy.
Tar Heels played their best game of the year today, watch out NCAA. If they make the championship game I’ll be watching from the Opening Day Coliseum parking lot.
billy burns with an absolute CANNON! just threw out Choo trying to score from 2nd. I mean, he must have thrown that ball at least 100 feet befor it bounced one hopping the catcher!
kendall is working on things
3 of vogt’s 6 hits are home runs
Coloumbe is workiong on things.
rangers have 6 runs on 1 hit in the 5th.
I’m watching soccer.
Thanks, and go As.
so was I. my boys were playing on the same team. the older more spazzy one scored his first goal, which, if you knew him, would shock you as much as the rest of us (2 hand balls, one in the box). the younger one set up the teams other goal with the usual nice pass.
1) spring night games are stupid
2) yay for spring night games
3) charlie steiner just said Trevor Cahill is going to have the same role on the cubs as Joe blanton will on the Dodgers. WHat a world
Oh shit. poor Farhan. Rick monday just said they were fucking with Joc Pederson to make him fix what went wrong last year
today’s line up looks alot like a regular season one, well minus sogard and maybe Crisp
I need to remind myself of who is on the A’s roster. I spent like 10-15 seconds thinking “oh man, I thought they got rid of Ike Davis” before remembering that it is Khris Davis in left.
rajai is on the clevelands or something
here you go
kk womders if north carolina or kansasa is the best team, vc wonders iowa
Rondon is working on things, allowing bareto to get only a single
Barreto first to third on a soft single, then scores on a short fly to right
ends with a tie. not bad gamew really
Dude on the Earthquakes just scored a most ridiculous goal.
here
Quincy rules. Hella good guy, too.
Thanks, and go As.
The game is on teevee.
Schlong!
This no TV thing got old real quick…
Somewhat related: I heard CSNCA was about to start showing their 2015 A’s recap. Now I understand it is probably a contractual thing, but who in their right mind would want to watch that? The only thing I want to know from it is if they used Team Dynamite at any point.
reddick!
(I am 45 minutes behind)
Khris davis could swing at every pitch and i would still love him for his socks
belt makes a bad desision by belt. tried for the DP 1st and third when burns was batting
ok, I am sold on madson. he had me tearing up talking about his kids
ok, i dont like that it is aping the kings court, but I like the sonny sider’s t shirt
Where is Bed? I need a breakdown of the AL West by VORP.
no joke, was jost thinking i would rather have smolinski on the roster than butler
Ugh, fangraphs is currently projecting that the A’s will get a grand total of 0.3 WAR from the DH position, mostly split between Crisp and Butler.
What I really look for in a DH is a guy who used to be good at defense.
Thanks, and go As.
If Coco hits like he did in 2013 (or 2010 or 2005), then he could be an ok DH. I don’t think it’s going to happen.
For a combined 24 million, you really can’t beat that production.
Because thinking about Butler is giving me despair — what is the possible scenario that could lead to him being dropped from the roster? I can’t see Butler getting replaced by a rotating DH scenario, so we would need a particular hitter (or maybe a natural platoon) to break out. I guess the best possibility would be if Davis, Canha, and Alonso are all hitting well enough that they have to be included in the lineup. But Davis and Canha are right-handed, so probably one of them ends up platooning with Butler. Lambo is left-handed and has been hitting in Spring Training. Smolinski, Nunez, and Ravelo are all right-handed. Olson is not on the 40 man.
I think he almost certainly makes opening day roster, but if he has a bad first month or so they will dump him. The problem is last year he had a good first month, which disguised just how bad he was later.
He can get away with blaming cold weather until the middle of May. I doubt they throw in the towel on that much money until the All-Star break at earliest.
i can’t see Canha making the opening day team unless crisp is dead.
Passes the eye test, sadly.
Can we please get a Rickey version of this?
How weird. If I was making A’s products I would always do a Rickey first.
on tv yesterday, saw a kid wearing a brett lawrie shirt.
they sold them last year. I refused to buy (same with butler) even though I need new shirts for the kids.
I don’t know why they don’t sell rickey ones
You could have made it easy on yourself and just got everyone CY25 shirts when they had them. They NEVER go out of style!
Time to fill out your brackets
There are some strong lower-seeded names, like 15s Chizu Shimizu Buckalew and Rigoberto Uran Uran, and 9s Jasmine Albuquerque-Croissant and Taco Pope. I also like 3-seed Sweet Orefice, though she might have to get by Bevis Mugabi to make the final 4.
Gotta go with Cinderela Guevara to advance at least a couple of rounds before midnight strikes.
Duffy McSwiggins is presumably Duffman’s drunk uncle.
Sounds like a character at Duff Gardens.
“[Fast player] is working with Rickey on baserunning” has become one of the most reliable evergreen stories of spring. I feel like I’ve read some version of it every year for the past five.
“We’re going to be more aggressive on the base paths this year” is a close second only to “I’m in the best shape of my life.”
“He’s made a full recovery.”
“There’s a lot of talent on this ball club.”
“This is the hardest-working coaching staff I’ve ever been associated with.”
It will be like we picked up a frontline starter at the trade deadline!
“There’s a [looser/more professional] vibe to the clubhouse.”
“We’re going to find more ways to manufacture runs” – years in which the A’s offense is expected to be shitty
The “Father’s Day Catch on the Field” event costs $30 a head on top of the game tickets?! Ain’t no one paying that.
EDIT: Plus an unexplained $5.00 fee per person and a $4.25 per order “handling fee”!!
Korach is saying that Coghlan is going to have to play some third base for this team. I don’t like the odds of that going well.
Rich Hill is still working on some things.
Walks give the pitcher lots of chances to work on his pickoff move, and later in the inning he gets to work on backing up third base and home plate.
needs to work on getting out of jams, with home runs, mostly
Jeff likes our waiver claim
I really want Brito to be a Diamondback regular, so that the chances of him facing Caminero increase. Baseball really needs to have its Socrates versus Arquimedes settled.
Barca look decent.
Thanks, and go As.
The Bayern-Juve match is the one to be watching.
Jeff Samardzija is working on some things.
One of the sock-puppets on the morning show on 95.7 The Lame keeps talking about how Samardzija is primed for a breakout year with the Gnats. Never mind we’re talking about a career 96 ERA+ pitcher.
In fairness, those guys are extremely ignorant about anything not football. It’s a guaranteed face palm whenever they touch on basketball too.
In fact, this particular guy seems to know nothing except gambling.
I just heard Jerry DiPoto talking about what the Mariners bullpen is going to look like “while we’re waiting for Scribner, while we’re waiting for Cook.”
Fourth place is definitely not out of reach.
have you seen the angels rotation?
third pace is in reach
valencia with a HR (3) off paxon, a lefty
paxton is working on things
I should hope so.
oooo, its a counter example to Manlybloke’s assertion that the answer to headlines that ask a question are invariably “no.”
On the other hand, if they thought he had no shot to make the team they would have let him play for the Czechs in the WBC.
R.J Alvarez and Seth Frankoff are etc. etc.
Barreto took some AAAA guy opposite field for his third of the spring.
Split squad:
A’s-Reds on the radio, with Ken, Vince, and Ray.
A’s-Giants on TV. A’s beating up on MadBum, who I guess is working on some things, while Amy G. interviews Brandon Crawford about his hair.
thats important
Fuld’s injured. Won’t make Opening Day. We will survive.
Korach has a podcast apparently called “Taking Effect.” Fosse thinks this is very funny for reasons that are unclear
There are Giants fans currently chanting “Hey, We Want Some Posey” to the tune of the 2 Live Crew’s “Hey, We Want Some Pussy.”
Please go punch all of them for FKing up a great song.
Thanks, and go As.
Donny Buaans talking about Korach telling them pregame how much Bill King despised the Giants. Says King had a name for the Giants that can’t be said on the air.
How could I not love Bill King even more than I already do.
Bassitt hit on the leg with a line drive but stays in the game.
Matt Chapman bomb off of the Shark.
Coghlan homer. 6 runs now off the Shark.
Five years.
2016
2017
2018
2019
2020
HURR DURR EVEN YEARS
I really, truly hope that both Submargarine and Cueto are fucking HORRIBLE for the life of their contracts and Timmeh comes to Oakland for vet minimum and tears it up because Fuck the Giants.
Thanks, and go As.
This game in Havana is legitimately cool. Thanks Obama.
I DVR’d it and look forward to watching. My one disappointment from my trip to Cuba last year is that we went in August and no baseball was happening then.
What is ESPN doing throwing back to the booth here? I’m glad they recorded the guys getting hauled off to the dungeon, but you’ve got to stay live on that or why else are you there?
This is the guy who threw the first pitch, together with Tiant
Jaso looks… different
when did keith morris start to play baseball?
Jaso had kind of a long haired dirtbag look his first season in Oakland, then looked like a Sheriff Dept recruit in year 2.
The A’s are in midseason “losing to Hector Santiago” form already.
Cliff Pennington is on the Angels.
So is Craig Gentry.
I predict he will go 27-24(!) against us with 20 SBs and 3 HRs.
I was looking at a Padres spring training box score the other day, which featured both Jemile Weeks and Adam Rosales in their starting lineup.
We’re starting Billy Butler at DH though.
Thanks, and go As.
Walk off walk, and the Angels eat pie at our expense.
Hahn shut down indef?
Thanks, and go As.
que? i don[t see it
http://www.csnbayarea.com/athletics/spring-training-day-31-shakeup-pitching-plans
“at least a month”
oh holy shit disregard that, apparently that was clips from last season and not from ST this year.
WTF A’s.
Thanks, and go As.
Huh? That article says “…Jesse Hahn and Eric Surkamp are expected to eat up most of the innings in Oakland’s Cactus League game against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night in Peoria.”
The videos that play repeat the “Hahn will be shut down” clips from last year.
It confused the FK out of me.
Thanks, and go As.
that was especially poorly produced.
right?
a) I wasn’t 100% paying attention
b) the FKing videos autoplay
c) it just showed a still pic of Hahn with audio overlayed
what the shit?
Thanks, and go As.
Tonight’s game is live on MLB Network. The attraction is that Mark Canha is starting in Center Garden for the Green and Gold.
bily butler is working on things
as is jesse hahn
All the infielders and outfielders have been working on one thing in particular, namely scratching their nuts while Hahn screws around out there.
If he gets shut down for a month I know who to blame.
I haven’t been paying too much attention, thank goodness, because this game is clearly one of the most horrifying abominations in the history of baseball. And Canha’s defensive acumen really doesn’t have anything to do with it.
end of the 6th?
the scoreboard operator should skip to the 8th instead of the 7th. no one will notice
That wasn’t hyperbole.
I was able to ignore it and eventually turn it off, but all the uniformed personnel had to stick it out to the end. I would guess both pitching coaches were assisted out of whichever watering holes they found their way to and into taxicabs sometime in the wee hours this morning.
For FK’s sake, don’t let Vince see this.
A’s of all teams need NOB for spring
Is it too much to ask that the Giants get off to like a 10-30 start so that MFers will shut about even years for the rest of the summer?
You got a problem with 0-162?
Still too many wins.
It’s been a shitty few weeks since learning that my older dog Bronte has untreatable cancer. However today was a good day. Friends of BACS finally got approved for a matching grant that I have been working on for over 6 months. Plus I finished my taxes and realized I’m getting an unexpected refund I can use for Bronte’s care. Yay!
aw. yay
So sorry to hear that about Bronte.
Thanks. I knew it was going to be tough, but in my mind I always thought “oh she has years left…” Now that reality is slapping me in the face, it’s pretty heartbreaking. She was there for 12 out of 17 years of Cat’s PJs, in the office every day. She’s been on tons of vacations with me… she really is my heart dog. It just sucks. I’m trying to look on the bright side that we already gave her up once when she went into advanced training at CCI, and we were lucky enough to get her back for 10+ years I didn’t think I’d get. I hope she’s got some good months left in her, but there is no way to know, so for now we’re just doing her bucket list. Which BTW FK you Subaru for having that damn ad on TV right now. Like I’m not going through enough Kleenex.nn1
Bassitt working on some things.
to be fair, the first two hits were luck/bunt against the shift. but for there…
he seemed to have worked on them
Sogard is in mid season form
running on the pitch, tapper to third. rounds second and gets in pickle and is tagged out just in time for burns to not yet be at second, and is subsequently thrown out.
double play goes, 5-6-5-4
Arent small middle infielders who cant hit supposed to be at least aware on the bases? I thought there was a law about that…
graveman is working on things. walking panik after going 0-2
its a lot of pitches, but not a bad inning overall
i have fully come around on krukow
When he’s not doing shtick he often has something to tell me.
He is 100 million times better than Fosse.
you know, It’s nice of the A’s to lull giants fans into false confidence by sucking against Samardjiza and Peavy
Coco had a great AB to lead off the game.
Since then…
his second AB wasn’t bad either. except he seems deader than bernie
wow. forgot about the ATT scream. that was a shallow pop up. 200 feet at most.
one run in 18 innings off of the giants 3 and 4.
nice
#workingonthings
