This is the way the season ends.
A’s send guys named Brooks Nolin and Bassitt to the mound, facing a Seattle team no less out of the hunt but at least throwing pitchers they’d heard of back in April. Both teams watching from afar a theoretically exciting wild card playoff chase from which they were disinvited before summer even began.
Twins host the Royals, Angels play at the Rangers, and the Astros are at the Diamondbacks. In the one-of-these-things-are-not-like-the-other game, I say Houston ekes out a spot for itself.
We are the hollow men
We are the hitless men
Failing together
Roster filled with straw. Alas!
Apparently Felix Hernandez is done for the season, so we finally get that series with Seattle where the A’s don’t have to face him. Just when we need it least.
And some of you doubted that this squad would be playing October baseball!
Anything is possible. Anything is possible. Repeat until April.
Merry Christmas!
I look at this team and continue to think they could be much better quick.
But with tubby at DH…yikes
vince doesn’t say boo about him stricking out. as compared to the great and mighty Cust
5 Ks in two innings for Iwakuma. And Texas and Anaheim might never score again.
exciting game
Disappointing result though.
yup.
Angels and Rangers split.
Twins win two vs. Royals.
D’Backs win two (apparently) vs. Astros.
Not likely (it never was) but still possible.
nice
The M’s new pick off play.

Really, Marte did owe us.
Has this been a thread title before?
whoever is doing the station ids for the radio really has given up.
never matching the sound to a relevant player in the game
We have relevant players?

dammit vince CALL THE FUCKING PLAY
hello 5th pick
The first pick must often turn out to be a better choice than the first, no?
Danny Valencia: relevant
Valencia is awesome, but the degree to which he is so much better than every other Athletic is quite an indictment of the 2015 plan.
he is, but a decent bullpen and the second half defense and we are the twins
I hope they abandon the home run tunnel next year, it’s run the course from endearing back to little league.
please an thank you
This. It is no longer organic, feels like an obligation.
If we had had a few walkoffs this year I would say the same about pie.
never in doubt
#WHERESMYRING?
Gotta like the thought of Josh Hamilton getting the best of the Angels.
if trout wins this series, he is the mvp
dammit
Classic Colby Lewis, 4 lights out innings then disaster.
Turning into another wild alcoholic nightmare at Arlington.
Jo Jo Reyes comes in down 10-6, throws one pitch, his first in the majors in 4 years, and ends up with the win.
Then it ends when Andrus is tagged out oversliding 2nd.
KrAZeE
Twins eliminated. Damn.
With Games 6 and 7 of the World Series scheduled for November 3 and 4, that truly is a shame.
Cal shakes off the slow start to hold serve vs WSC. Now time to pack the suitcases.
danny valencis farts in the general direction of your draft position
If Colorado’s first rounder makes the Hall I quit baseball.
oh chris carter. try hitting homers instead
judas preist commercial?
Scherzer
Last weekend no-nos shouldn’t count.
mike’s whitt and scott want a word
I agree. Cost me my fantasy league
What a blind-ass umpire.
No doubt he will be on a post-season crew.
Yes, Ray, “ran into some bad luck” is one way of describing Gentry’s 2015 A’s season.
It would be kind of hilarious for LAA to sweep the Rangers and still miss the playoffs.
To be fair, the Rangers won on Thursday, but yeah, I’d love for the Angels to win tomorrow and still miss out.
There are all kinds of interesting possibilities.
If Houston keeps their lead tonight, and LAA beat Texas tomorrow, it will ensure that there is a game 163, either Tex/Hou for the division or Hou/LAA for the wildcard.
one of the rasmus boys is going to the post season
i wouldn’t mind that
it would mean barry zito kept them out
only 7 errors in the second half. that is acceptable
somebody let me know if ucla lost. i’ll be so mad.
Get angry, Ed.
i am. those ASU uniforms are terrible
I really like the copper facemasks though.
The top eight teams in the Pac-12 can all win by 28 this week and lose by 28 next week.
This Coulombe guy seems to be fitting right in.
good. now lets all hope the giants lose tomorrow
goldschmidt just hit one into the pacific
the astros will play at least 163 games this year
Still rooting for both the Astros and Angels to win tomorrow.
I did something stupid and checked out HH. People are bitching that the Astros are playing the D-backs and the A’s are playing Seattle this weekend – the implication is that the D-backs have given up and are letting the ‘Stros walk all over them (instead of the truth that they just aren’t very good). It’s tempting to log in there and point out that their guys couldn’t win a game started by Barry Zito, but FK it.
the angels played az in june. won 2 of three
if they won the first game of the series, they would be playing for the division still
Despite tying the score in the top half, the A’s are still very alive for the loss.
nice of bob to bring mujica in. very sporting
all the guys on the end of the bench are getting pissed that they are wasting precious minutes their last night with major league per diem
come on guys, a win makes 4th pick impossible
So the A’s can move up to 5 on Sunday if they lose to the M’s and the Brewers beat the Cubs. A Brewers loss OR an A’s win puts the A’s at 6.
Top #6 draft picks by career WAR (there have been 51 June drafts):
1. Barry Bonds, 1985 (162.4 WAR)
2. God’s Puppy, 1992 (71.8)
3. Gary Sheffield, 1986 (60.3)
4. Zack Greinke, 2002 (51.9 and still active)
5. Andy Van Slyke, 1979 (41.2)
6. Kevin McReynolds, 1981 (29.9)
Of 45 selections made before 2010, 10 never appeared in the majors and 23 more produced/have produced 5 career WAR or fewer.
pick 48 which is where the next one may fall?
Yeah, OK, we’ll take Cal Ripken.
or josh donalds….aw fuck
6

dudes, seattle closes at 130.
get on with it
come on guys. don’t you care about winning in 2019?
Careless whimper.
if richards is going today, who do the Angels have for 163 or the eild card?
Ah, such sorrowful, sorrowful sweetness.
Jeebus … no home-field advantage for the Jays then.
beul needs v3 more outs.
(royals leading also)
Congratulations to the Raiders for turning the Bears into a competent NFL team.
Nah, the Bears still suck. It’s just that the Raiders do too.
Hey fella…this is a baseball blog. Now, what are your thoughts on the A’s playoff chances.
Im having a hard time reminding myself that this team is going to have games like this. 12 or so years of god awful does not wash off with one win vs the Browns.
Still we had a poor game where more than one break went against us and still had a shot to win it. I dont like it, but its better than week 1.
(BTW, picked up Owen Daniels for my fantasy teams-guaranteed to have like 35 points next week..)
My main problem with the game today was the third and two call. A power run with a third down back…odd choice. The Raiders coaches played not to lose which of course led to them to losing the game. The secondary outside of Woodson is talent challenged and our running back was really bad today. Tough loss, hopefully they’ll play better next week.
Agreed all the way around. Great teams arent thinking field goal there. Too much time was left.
But I just try to remember that Murray hopefully doesnt have many nightmare games like that in his pocket.
sorry fsu
Damn, those jerseys are ugly.
I always thought the 49ers home jerseys were sharp but people like black so I get it.
Alright I am ready for some baseball…when does the season start?
So the truth comes out. Butler couldnt find good BBQ and that stressed him out all season long.
I feel his pain.
Okay, now be honest…is anyone actually watching the A’s game?
I turned it on so I wouldnt have to watch the Bears FG-does that count?
I am. Need to take my mind off of football.
Both andeux and 5Aces with solid reasons to be watching baseball today. Bottom line…FOOTBALL WILL KILL YOUR SOUL.
Wow, second time in a month someone on fk has told me my soul was dead.
I sold my soul years ago and it’s fine…although I do miss automatic doors opening for me, but I get by.
Of course. Last chance for seven months.
I plan on watching about the same amount of baseball the next seven months as I did in the previous seven months. I’ve decided I’m a legacy A’s fan.
Will be thinking this for about 150 days after the last out this afternoon:
” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen>
My new baseball year’s resolution is to learn at least five names on the A’s roster for next season. God willing with the help and support of my family I hope to accomplish this goal.
adrian beltre. favorite
I don’t know if Jack Del Rio is a good head coach but he does have great hair.
I want to thank the ownership of Free Kraut Inc. for being the only website that doesn’t have autoplay ads. I guess they make their millions off this site in other ways.
And it’s been you, Free Kraut, right down the line.
Thanks for another season.
Come on, extra innings. You all know you want ’em!
Die Angels Die
Burn in hades
They appear to be complying.
Angels die because they take themselves lightly.
Eid Slegna Eid
Eid mubarack to you
Scioscia’s hat, skin, and jersey are almost the same color right now. If it weren’t for the Ray-Bans and the little patch of gray hair he’d look like a cherry tomato on top of a beefsteak tomato.
I think Ray reached full erection getting to talk about Theth and Sunday Funday one last time.
Come on, boys!
Just need 2. Though a #teamdynamite to end the year would be fitting.
2 what? players bed has heard of?
I have to say Seattle’s white uni with the high blue socks look good.
Sigh.
Nevertheless I will miss baseball.
I’ve missed it all season…
Mistah Kurtz – he dead.
Niners’ defense played pretty well, but good lord their offense is terrible.
I’m starting to feel nervous about 4-12…
The first three months of this season were genuinely entertaining. The last three were uhh, well, less so.
When I think of what the team could have been though, I get rather sad though.
i love that barry zito prevented the angels from getting to the playoffs
I liked Ichiro getting to pitch.
I honestly like Ichiro doing anything. We should keep finding new things for him to do.
i’d genuinely like to thank the 2015 A’s for making quitting the ball of bases so easy. and you guys and gals for watching the car wreck so that by the reflection in your horrified faces — wow, this metaphor is getting convoluted — i never got the urge to look in the rear-view mirror.
I’m just hoping next year we can see paradise by the dashboard light.
Someone’s not happy with the events Rizzuto narrates.
I don’t think I ever listened to that song long enough to know there was baseball stuff in there.
