Games 141-143: In the Kingdom of Kula Kola 53

(The Rangers’ alleged scoreboard sponsor, according to Gameday, because we already had a lock on Otter Pops.)

I hate it when I make a game thread and they’re already three runs down.

    Colby Lewis perfect through five. Sure, why not.

      The guy who invented the Kitten Face moniker, @tweetgrubes, is sitting behind home plate.

    “Right around the ol’ butt muscle” — Vince’s description of where the pitch hit Jesse.

      I spit my drink out at that.

        I was glad I wasn’t listening to him when Vogt got hit.

  5. Thunderbutt Sep 11,2015 6:41 pm

    In other news, Jesse’s game is somewhat less than perfect.

    There is always a score.
  6. Glorious Mundy Sep 11,2015 6:49 pm

    Seven.

    This is going to happen, isn’t it.

  7. Glorious Mundy Sep 11,2015 6:53 pm

    Oooh, fiendish strategy. Bring in Otero so that the Rangers bat for a long time and Lewis gets cold.

  8. Glorious Mundy Sep 11,2015 7:02 pm

    I usually can’t get fully on board with rooting for a high draft pick, but when you couple it with playing the teams that are keeping the Angels out of the playoffs…

    I turned the game on. We’re good to go now.

    I don’t think the perfect game should’ve counted anyways since Fuld, Sogard, Butler, and Muncy made up almost half the at bats/outs.

    • Glorious Mundy Sep 11,2015 7:14 pm || Up

      On a hunch I just went to check whether Fuld (wRC+ of 60) has been the worst hitter in the league with more than 250 PAs. Not even close!

    By the by, Lewis now has a 2.92 career ERA vs. the A’s in 154.1 IP, his most IP against any team. It’s worse against basically everyone else except for a 2.55 ERA in 81.1 IP vs. HOU.

    We’ve reached the point in the proceedings where the Chron is running AP’s game story.

      I’d rather see him right now than those other assholes who have sucked all season.

      • 5Aces Sep 13,2015 7:28 pm || Up

        But then I think he could have been pitching all season instead of those assholes who have sucked.

    Jed Lowrie with a pinch hit 3-run homer to cap a 5-run Huston Street meltdown. Astros were down to their last out down 3-0.

        What do you think was the worst thing to come out of today?

        The big off-season signing of Hudson (highest paid center in the NFL, I think?) look like dog-poop?

        The (over) hyped D-line getting man-handled?

        Dink and DUMP master Carr, who looked terrible in the 1/2 he played, getting injured, which halts the inevitable evaluation that he just is not a viable NFL QB?

        Outside of Carrie, the non-showing of any McKenzie draft pick not taken in the top ten?

        My vote is for Carr. He met all of my reservations, and once again gives me zero hope.

        Fuck.

        • Bed Sep 13,2015 6:38 pm || Up

          It’s hard to pick just one…the biggest thing for me was just how unprepared they looked. When you have a team with a lack of talent and you add not being prepared you get…well, that.

          No pressure from the line, no push from our line, dropped balls, bad passes, and maybe the worst secondary I’ve ever seen. Quick question for LA…are you sure want this crap?

          But seriously, folks...
          • Bed Sep 13,2015 6:44 pm || Up

            On Carr…I still have some hope but he rarely hits his second or third read…if he even makes those reads…still we’re 17 starts in so I’m not ready to give up on him. My gut feeling is he’s a league average QB. If you’re great on defense, and in the running game, you could probably win some games with him but he has a ceiling.

            But seriously, folks...
            • mother pucker Sep 13,2015 6:54 pm || Up

              Yeah, I am probably being a little harsh on Carr, but in the passing era that exists in the NFL, it is difficult to be consistently good with only league average QB play.

              • Bed Sep 13,2015 7:01 pm || Up

                Yep, it’s tough to win consistently without a Top 10 QB. Sadly, the Raiders rarely have Top 10 QB’s. It’s still amazing that a franchise that’s been around this long and had a fair share of success has only drafted and groomed 1! franchise type QB in its history. RIP Snake.

                  Well…I guess it’s really four. Stabler, Wilson, Marinovich, and Russell.

                  I was reading comments from a news article about the Carr injury and someone suggested they need a big time SEC QB.

                  I dont even know how to respond to that besides posting a pic of JaWalrus.

                  In all seriousness — trade for Zach Mettenberger?

                  Even with my distrust of Carr, I would be reluctant to move any future draft picks (provided of course McKenzie is not doing the drafting).

                  It’s the Raiders.

                  RG3 incoming.

                  And I have to say: mikev is one of my favorite people on here -slusser.

                  Thanks, and go As.

                  Trading for RG3 would be hilarious. Hey, maybe we can trade some 1st round picks to the Cardinals for Carson Palmer.
