    Chris Young and Jeremy Guthrie have combined to hold the A’s to 3 ER over 12 IP these last two games; and at least 1 of those runs was an absolute gift.

    Getting swept sucks and all, but it does prevent any silly delusions about contending. Not that I’m very excited about the upcoming trades. I doubt any team will be so desperate as to hand us some stud prospects in return for stuff we’d be perfectly happy to give away.

    Do me a favor and don’t trade Vogt, though. I like rooting for him.

      Stud prospects would only come if the A’s shopped Reddick, Gray or maybe Vogt. (I doubt anyone makes that kind of pitch for Vogt.) I could see a scenario where packaging Kazmir and Chavez could get a SP hungry team to splurge but I’m not too sure anyone qualifies as being so hungry.

      Basically… Beane is the only GM willing to “splurge” on spending a stud prospect and he’s on our side.

        Yeah, the year of trading boils down to two mis-steps. Addison Russell and Josh Donaldson should have been positively untouchable until 2016 at the earliest. Every other trade is defensible. Every other trade seemed like other teams operated similarly.

        Those two were unique to Beane. No one is trading a top-5 MLB prospect; no one is trading a top-5 MLB player. Except Beane. And both were huge mistakes. If you want to stay ahead of the curve, you have to be different. This time conventional wisdom was actually wise.

          The best test is to picture hearing it announced at HS graduation.

          And somehow Nicholas did not get his middle name announced. My assumption is they gave him a card to fill out and he didnt bother asking out what he should put. We waited over 18 years to hear Nicholas Christian and we got nothing. I guess I should be glad he didnt put Nic, or Big Daddy or something like that.
