    • FreeSeatUpgrade Jan 15,2010 12:12 pm || Up

      Yup. I hope some more interesting personalities emerge from the designers, that was a big shortcoming last season. The gal who got booted might’ve made for good drama later on, except for her sucks-as-a-maker-of-clothing problem.

      "Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
      • batgirl Jan 15,2010 12:48 pm || Up

        Yes, last season had very little personality. I’m hoping to get more of that this time around, though it’s impossible to tell at first. It takes a few weeks before I can really tell people apart. Right now I’ve just got Ping, Georgia Queen, Crying girl from Oregon, “Punk Rock” guy with the waiter bowtie, and the guy who looks like Ilan from Top Chef.

        My big frustration from last night was how much they liked Bowtie Guy’s plaid number. Have these judges never been to a Hot Topic? I swear every time they’re confronted with anything sort of “punky” they just fall all over it (for example Jeffrey Sebelia)while to me it just looks completely tired.

        • whiteshoes40 Jan 15,2010 1:17 pm || Up

          Ping was entertaining. It doesn’t seem like she’ll last very long, but she’s fun to watch.

          I think it was the Bowtie Guy who had that crazy zipper on the back of the dress he designed. Not a fan. I did like the dress that won the challenge, though.

    WordPress “technology” question:

    How come I don’t get to see all of the posts in a particular category, or in an archive month? It only shows the last ten or so, and then I don’t see any way to go to “older posts” or “previous” or whatever. Am I just not seeing it? Or do I need to take the long way through the dashboard to find older posts in each category/month?

    Did anybody else see Kimmel’s hour-long Leno impression last Tuesday night, complete with wig, lisp, and silly-puddy chin? And then he follows that up by showing up on Leno and delivering the interview embedded above, “one of the most jaw-droppingly ballsy few minutes of television anywhere.”

    I like reading Goodman on this: “how long can this car crash be televised? Right now it’s the best drama on the air.” And I like that his best barbs are for the NBC executives. And I have always enjoyed Conan in the past (less so since he moved to 11:30) and would love for him to get to keep his show.

    But at the same time, don’t you have to give a couple of points to Leno?
    1. He gets the highest ratings.
    2. I kind of admire his having been able to take an evisceration like the one he took on national television and to handle it as gracefully as he did. “A plea from Jimmy Kimmel!” Indeed.

You know that scene in those movies where the hero falls into an abyss, and then suddenly his hand appears out of the darkness, and he’s safe? It was 140 minutes of that.

    There are a lot of moving parts here, but I don’t see the M’s moving up much. Maybe from 13th to 10th in road scoring (which I’m using as a proxy for overall effectiveness because their ballpark kills their stats).
