    In the context of the new rules, that is a dirty (sucio) play by Souza, no?

    • Future Ed May 24,2015 10:29 am || Up

      it seemed. Vogt wasn’t in the baseline

      I have $5. No I don\'t.
      • Soaker May 24,2015 10:37 am || Up

        Disagree with that. Vogt’s left foot was on the foul side of the base line, and Souza therefore didn’t go out of the base line to hit him. They’ve replayed this repeatedly on TV but I don’t have the sound on; based on previous comments I presume Fosse thought that was a clean play.

        • dmoas May 24,2015 10:40 am || Up

          It didn’t look like he was trying to knock him down. He didn’t avoid contact, but it wasn’t anywhere near as hard as it could have been. And Vogt did step in the path after caught the ball. Seems mostly that he should have slid and realized too late that he didn’t.

        • Future Ed May 24,2015 10:46 am || Up

          after a replay of 8, I agree with that.

          fosse did not. he thinks the runner targeted the catcher. with some evidence, but I don[t know the rule

          I have $5. No I don\'t.
          • Soaker May 24,2015 10:48 am || Up

            The language of the rule is:

            A runner attempting to score may not deviate from his direct pathway to the plate in order to initiate contact with the catcher (or other player covering home plate), or otherwise initiate an avoidable collision.

            The failure by the runner to make an effort to touch the plate, the runner’s lowering of the shoulder, or the runner’s pushing through with his hands, elbows or arms, would support a determination that the runner deviated from the pathway in order to initiate contact with the catcher in violation of Rule 6.01(i) (Rule 7.13), or otherwise initiated a collision that could have been avoided.

            So my interpretation is that if the runner is going straight for home plate he can hit the catcher as Souza did, but he has very little leeway to go left or right without being called out.

              It seemed to me he was trying to initiate contact a lot more than he was trying to touch the plate.

                he didn’t turn in like ray thinks, but he did lean and lower shoulder.

                don’t know if that violates the rule

          Paul’s line is that the US dollar will become worthless due to Washington’s profligate spending, corruption and general incompetence. The solution, which has been a right-wing solution ever since the dollar’s value was no longer tied to the government’s holdings of gold, is that you should invest in precious metals, in this case particularly through the company for which Mr. Paul is a paid spokesman.

    I’m a little concerned that the every reference to Korach’s return today which I can find on Twitter derives from the one John Hickey Oak Tribune article I linked a few days ago. No formal announcement from the A’s or 95.7. And nothing to suggest that today’s appearance means he’s back full time the rest of the way.
