FKing season tickets – 2015 44

So I just got the A’s latest ad for season ticket renewals (“buy now before tickets go on sale at 1/28”) and realized that with everything going on here and the newly-complicated rules, that I just can’t run it this year.

So this is notice of that and an opportunity to start thinking about what that means.

    I do expect to be running the front-row seats again though.

    that makes the decision making easier, doesn’t it?

    Thank you A’s marketing. You took the best thing about your ineptitude and turned it into a fault.

      Hey Nevermoor, I can’t seem to post new comments anymore, only replies. Is there something on my side that is wonky? Is anyone else having this issue?

      • colin colin Jan 19,2015 10:18 am || Up

        I see the normal comment box at the bottom of the page. Are you posting from a computer or a phone?

        • batgirl batgirl Jan 19,2015 10:22 am || Up

          From a computer using firefox. It seems to be an intermittent issue. When I go in the recent lounge thread I see a comment box at the bottom of the screen, but in this thread, I don’t. FK has always been a bit funky on my computer for some reason.

            I’m not sure. Any chance it’s way down on the page somewhere (maybe below the right column)?

            Did you already do a reply? I seem to remember that once I replied I couldnt do a new comment until UI refreshed the page. Let me confirm that after I hit post here…

            Yep. After my reply it does not let me make a new comment and it does not let me reply to my own comment. I’m gonna refresh right now and I am pretty sure that will take it back to normal.

              And confirmed this as well. Once I refreshed the page I could reply to my comments and a new comment box was there (until I made this reply.)

              Firefox here as well.

                Ok, so that does let me make a comment at the bottom. I still cant reply to my own comment-but I’m not Bed so that shouldnt be too much of an issue.

                Also I have to delete the text from y first comment. It stays in the box. Really no BFD but since we are mentioning stuff.

                  Yes, there is only one reply box’s worth of HTML on the page, and it bounces around to wherever there is a reply. Unfortunately, WP is coded to reload the whole page after every comment (which would suck) so I can’t seem to reset the reply box (or clear it) after comments.

                  And the no reply to your own comments (pre-referesh) is because I hand coded the comment displays in a limited way. There are a lot of things they don’t show (auto-embeds, new lines from pressing enter, etc.) that WP gets right when you reload.

        The on-sale date for single games is Wed., January 28.

        A Hello Kitty Bobblehead? I guess they’re trying to piggyback on “Hello Kitty’s Supercute Friendship Festival” which plays at Oracle Arena the previous weekend.

    I ended up getting my own season ticket package to secure postseason tix last year, which didn’t exactly work out like I hoped. I may well be looking for companions for particular games and/or purchasers for ones I can’t use, once I figure out how it all works.

        Two. For family games I figure I’ll combine multiple tix for single days. I am assuming the ticket services will continue to be amenable to switching around, though the stupid new tiered system will probably make it a headache.

          First lesson learned: You cannot trade on or off the “Gold” tier games. To get a total of 4 opening day tix i had to buy 4 new tix, and then later have the A’s resell my original 2 tix on StubHub.

            Or sell them to a friendly neighborhood FKer? (not me for opening day, I will be making sure we have a GT..)

              Yes, if I decide not to use the original two seats, FK will be my first stop.

            Epic Fail on the A’s part.

            • FreeSeatUpgrade FreeSeatUpgrade Jan 21,2015 6:32 pm || Up

              I am curious about how the A’s handle the StubHub profit or loss. If the tickets go for a good chunk above the price I paid (as seems quite possible for a sold out Opening Day), does the season ticket holder receive any of that profit? Or if the A’s suck and the market tanks and fireworks game tickets in August are going for 50% of face value, do I eat that loss? Also curious if my ticket agreement somehow prohibits me from StubHubbing them myself.

              I do know that the StubHub piece is for Gold games only, not the other tiers, which I believe (and hope) can still be credited to the account for use in later games.

              The Fail in all of this of course is the mind-numbing complexity. Being a season ticket holder is supposed to make going to games easier.

                Wait, I don’t get this at all. The A’s are going to sell them on StubHub on your behalf rather than just take them back and resell them themselves. Why would they involve a middleman when they don’t have to? Just to put the risk on you of them not selling? This sounds crazy.

                • FreeSeatUpgrade FreeSeatUpgrade Jan 21,2015 8:21 pm || Up

                  Reading the terms and conditions now, it is all my risk/reward, and the A’s role is really just autolinking my STH account to StubHub, if I want. Maybe the StubHub piece was the A’s odd way of mitigating the hassle caused to STH’ers by the Gold Tier idea.

                  In any case, STHers can no longer add Gold Tier games later at original STH prices (as I did with all of my 2014 nevermoor account tix), so the A’s control the inventory for high demand games and enjoy the dynamic pricing benefit.

                  with the gold games, I doubt they will have any problem selling them above face this year. if they tank, the 2016 tickets may not sell over STH price, but this year they’ll be fine

                  Still I hope there is a backlash. next time Derren calls I’ll tell him

                  Oh, OK. Well that’s not even a new service they’re offering, nor is it limited to STHs. I sold single game playoff tickets like that in 2012 and 2013. Basically they just took away one of the perks of STH status and are passing off a regular MLB/StubHub feature as some sort of compensation. Lame.

                  Yeah, all MLB accounts have linked to SH since the site decided to go legit and get league approval to resell tickets (before, it was possibly illegal scalping writ large).

                  Everything I’m reading about this pisses me off. And I usually would cut them slack on things, but this is just beyond asinine. You want STHers. You don’t fuck with those that agree to purchase a huge block of tickets in advance and sour them on the experience, you fucking bend over backwards to accommodate them. It just doesn’t make any practical business sense to do this.

    The A’s called me on Friday for season tix. I wish i had been thinking because I should have taken the chance to complain about this new system.

    As it was I pretty much blew the guys mind by telling him that a 2-3 hr drive is not super conducive to season tickets. Then he asked if I wanted a plan with friends. I told him I already was in one, just not in my name. He then said “go A’s” and I was so close to saying Best wishes before I hung up.
