Marlins fan guy missed the first pitch. I want to believe that he was getting a blunt nose flashlite search from KC Sheriffs in a dank windowless cell deep in the Kaufmann Stadium concrete.

Local TV deals are all different and hard to compare. I’m going off a Forbes article and a piece in Fangraphs, not that those present definitive information. So up to $50 million difference in local TV monies, based on your sources. Does anyone think the A’s are getting as much money from their stadium naming rights and suites as the Giants do from theirs?
I suspect the Giants make more from the sponsorships of the Audi Legends Club and the Virgin America Club Level than the A’s do from all sponsorships and advertising combined.
Why is being within one standard deviation of the average payroll supposed to mean they’re not a big spender? They spent more than 75% of the other teams in MLB.
Because he was around stats once and someone told him that being within one standard deviation is close. And that means it is always true no matter what. Or he overheard someone talking about six sigma and that the outliers were 3 SDs away. #mathishard

Me: No, I’m an A’s fan. I’m going to work.
Woman at Coffee Place: What’s it like being an A’s fan in the Bay Area?
Me: How much time do you have?
Her face when I said “A’s fan” was a mixture of confusion, pity, and disgust. She truly could not understand how someone could live and work in the Bay Area and be an A’s fan. Not “San Francisco.” The “Bay Area.”
It’s this attitude that drives me bonkers. Acknowledge our legitimacy, dammit!
To me a dynasty implies a continuous reign. What they did is impressive, and one of the great feats of small sample baseball we’ve ever seen, but it’s not on the level of the 70’s A’s or the 98-00 (arguably 96-03) Yankees.
Agreed. And I saidc this somewhere else, but there I might give them credit if in the odd years they were making the playoffs, lost the series, etc. But they are no where near dominant in those years.
And, if I am going to pick nits, they would not have been included if not for the changes to the post season. All of the dynasties we talk about didnt get a wild card route to add to their resume. Now end of day you play by the rules you are held to, but dont try and tell me this is the same as the Yankees team, etc.
Fair point. But I’m not saying all dynasties as inherently equal. I see the term as similar to being in the Hall of Fame… all the guys in there are Hall of Famers; some are better than others.
It’s not deserved, but I don’t think I can really argue against the dynasty label now. Three championships in five years is unfortunately dynastic. I will however, argue that they might be the weakest organization ever to qualify for a dynasty label
I had seen last night that Parker was going to be there. I cant think of a single reason why he/she/it shouldnt take off and just destroy as much of the parade as possible-double birds the whole way, throwing things at the Giants FO, etc.
I know I shouldn’t care, but it really annoys me that the River Cats are claiming the right to celebrate and actually send their mascot to the parade when they haven’t even played a single f’ing game yet as a Giants affiliate.
Throughout all this, I haven’t even seen a single word of thanks from them for 15 successful years as an A’s affiliate. I know affiliations change but it’s usually initiated by the parent club. The River Cats have just gone total frontrunner and effectively tossed the A’s aside to hook up with the hotter thing.
Agreed. And surprisingly the Grizzlies seem to have handled it with class. Now obviously they were the jilted city that no one wanted, but they have been totally fair with what has happened. Even when their social media guy mentioned possibly now getting a winning team, he made a point of saying how they never had issues with their affiliation, but if you looked at the standings for every year it was clear how the AAA team was used.
Yeah, and I know there’s been a lot of talk about how the River Cats are likely to go from a team with a good record as an A’s affiliate to a bad one under the Giants, and how what minor league teams do doesn’t really matter as long as they’re preparing people for successful MLB careers (not to mention what the MLB team does is more important), but there’s one small thing:
The River Cats have always drawn as much attention as possible to their success as a Triple-A team. Hell, there are countless times they, as an A’s affiliate, took advantage of any opportunity they could to rub it in the face of the Grizzlies when they were aligned with the Giants. Maybe that’s a social media thing, but nobody in the front office made whoever was behind it stop.
Now, they’ve gone all bandwagon to put in with the Giants, the Giants won yet another World Series, and the River Cats have latched on to it as if they’ve been part of the Giants for a lot longer than a month.
See, I find your point about how the RCs drew attention to their success as being a total key. I pointed out numerous times how some of the attendance diferences, etc were because of the records. It was then shot back how records dont matter for minor league teams, and some study that was done, etc.
For many situations that is probably right. But I think Sac was a bit of a diferent animal. They had pretty much always been successful, and they did a great job connecting to that success and reminding people what a great team they had to support. While I have no real data to back my theory up, I think it will be interesting to see how that reaction changes if they have a year or 2 of last place finishes. Fresno is every inch the Giant territory that Sacto is. Other than scattered rehab stints, and Giant centric giveaways (giants players bobbleheads and replica WS rings) it simply didnt matter much.
I mean, the starting rotation as it stands today is Shark, Gray, Kazmir, Griffin, and Parker?. I would not mind B.A. over Parker, if the price was right.
I am assuming neither Griffin nor Parker will be ready at the start of the season. I am assuming that Parker shouldn’t try to be a starter again after a second surgery. And I am assuming other changes.
If the price is right, what the hell? But I doubt it will be.
Parade day started off OK, because I got up really early and beat the crowds (so I wasn’t on a BART train full of drunk people). But because my office has the best view of the parade, I got a co-worker who wouldn’t leave (and who I couldn’t kick out). She doesn’t know anything about baseball, so I had to explain who various players were so she could take pictures on her camera. This would have been tolerable for a half hour, because I was doing end-of-month bureaucratic duties, but it dragged on for two hours.
The day went downhill from there, ending at a Halloween party which I otherwise enjoyed that featured more footage from the parade and Civic Center celebration – mercifully on mute.
Happily the Cal football team compensated for the band’s appearance in the parade by beating up on that other orange and black team last night. I even have a little bit of optimism about the Big Game for the first time in a few years.
I actually didn’t think it was a touchdown, or at least too close to overturn.
The 49ers only had one timeout, so one pass made a certain amount of sense. But then you give it to your best running back, not Kaepernick behind the rookie center who had been shoved around the entire game.
The Niners got screwed on replays that game. They should have got a safety from Tavon Austin, Crabtree should have had a TD, and that Kaep fumble was questionable at best. It looked like his elbow hit the ground before the ball came out to me
See, I don’t think the Austin play was a safety. He had come out of the endzone, and while he was in the process of going back, he was hit before he was back in the endzone as far as I could tell. That can’t be a safety.
On Crabtree’s play, he did not have full control until he’d already come back out of the endzone. If you’re looking at a still image that shows the ball in against his elbow with it over the goal line, it’s a deceptive image because he didn’t actually have control then. There was a bobble before he landed back on the 1. If nothing else, the clock should have stopped when he rolled out of bounds.
The Kaepernick play was basically impossible to overturn one way or the other.
The runner voluntarily went backwards into the endzone and was hit in the endzone. Carrier didn’t force him backwards until he was already behind the line. Thats a safety.
Kapernick clearly had his elbow down. We get the ball back with 2 seconds and tie the game.
In play, run(s)! Talk dirty to me gamecast, talk dirty. - Nevermoor
On the Kaep play, there is no replay that clearly shows whether he broke the plane or not before the ball came loose. If they had called it a TD on the field, that also would stand because you just couldn’t tell either way.
Which makes me wonder aloud why the hell a 2 billion dollar enterprise can’t afford to have goal line replay cameras… they use the FKing broadcast cameras!
And I have to say: mikev is one of my favorite people on here
-slusser.
I don’t agree with that on the safety. I think the ball was back across the line when contact was initiated, but I’m open to being persuaded if someone has the image.
Completely agree on Kaep. Thank god we didn’t give Gore a carry down there. Effing Roman.
"There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want"
And geez, there’s Frank Gore, standing there in the backfield. Maybe you might want to try giving him the ball when you really need a touchdown at the end of the game. Roman seems to have a deep aversion to doing that.
But in a way, it’s fine. If I don’t have to waste more time watching pro sports, I’m probably better off. It’s not like it has been enjoyable.
Now I wanna see Charlie Chan fight George Liquor American in a steel cage death match.

Not to celebrate the Giants at all, but I’d heard about this and ran across a video tonight. You’re a band from Vermont, playing in San Francisco on the night of Game 7, and early on in your first set the Giants win it. How do you handle it? You can see Page checking offstage a couple times and then around 3:15 the crowd starts to roar. By 4:45 they’re right back into “The Moma Dance”; I thought they did pretty well.
Marlins fan guy missed the first pitch. I want to believe that he was getting a blunt nose flashlite search from KC Sheriffs in a dank windowless cell deep in the Kaufmann Stadium concrete.
Who is Huddy so worried about?
The tough guys he pissed off at a KC bar last night.
Too soon.
i wanna see mo’ scowl on the hudson.
I may have to mute the TV. I can’t take all this Hudson talk.
Oh god. Why isn’t Madison Bumgarner warming up now?
chance for WS triple play.
Harold: “Because of his success this postseason, a lot of young kids are going to start trying to hit like Hunter Pence.”
Then when failure makes them give up baseball entirely they’ll join street gangs. Societal collapse is inevitable.
Where’s Posey when you need him?
Harold Reynolds has worn me out already.
ugh. were both of those so deep no play at the plate was possible?
Yup.
my sense of time is clearly warped.
Then my work is done.
melting in the mouth may have made it active quicker than expected!
It’s just a jump to the left.
i’m already thrusting my hips insanely! that’s how warped it is.
Not enjoying this second inning so far.
That’s an improvement!
Indeed. Way to bounce right back, Royals!
Run, Billy!
I was thinking, wow, he’s even slower than Callaspo.
Ow.
Beanball war imminent? Game 7 donnybrook? Bring it on.
Shaking it off seems like it may be difficult.
#urinaltroughs
Pics or stfu
That works.
new game. thank goodness.
Quick hook!
WTMWT???!!!???
I don’t wish ill upon Tim Hudson. Hopefully he’ll be an unimportant footnote when this game is through…call it KC 12, SF 10, in 11 innings.
He lasted longer than 2003.
Still too soon.
Ow.
Fuck the Giants.
No one is, Tom.
how come batters are the only people who don’t know not to slide on these?
quit fucking sliding into first.
Thanks, and go As.
Good. What a stupid time to dive.
Rookie Infielder Joe Panik is a strange name.
I could have sworn two guys behind home plate just held up signs that said Hi MikeV.
Also, turns out that the guy in the SFG jacket back there is E-40. Who as an East Bay guy should be ashamed of himself.
Hi.
Thanks, and go As.
It was on their boobs.
The makeup and lipstick on the “blonde” (?) next to E-40 make me think she must be some famous porn star.
Nah. E-40 doesn’t go to Notre Dame.
slip and slide royals. grrr.
Nothing against Madison Bumgarner. He’s an awesome pitcher and all. But it would be fun if he got shelled here.
Bochy doesn’t have a lot of options. But I don’t like the move.
A side session is one thing, getting outs is another.
kinda looks like he doesn’t have it
I just turned this on. Has Reynolds been babbling incoherently like this all night?
Yes.
it goes without saying, but don’t bunt ned
that’s great, 2-0 bunt to get to the lefty lefty match up
Aoki was something like 0-for-16 against Bumgarner. And Yost kept letting him hit, even bunted so he could hit.
That inning was their only realistic chance.
especially when taking one for the team > bunt.
ok, inside of knee would kinda hurt, i guess.
didn’t they do this 3 times in the wild card game and the runner died on third each time?
One of them scored. The ninth or the twelfth.
I thought the steals scored?
I’v blocked it out.
Didn’t they bunt to second and then steal third on Doo?
maybe. blocked it ou.
Absolutely ridiculous time to bunt.
Crazypants
8 pitches 2 strikes?
Is Pig deceased?
yosted
This is going to be “what would have happened if Bob Geren had ever managed a Game 7”.
not if his plan was to stop the double play streak. and you don’t know that he wasn’t thinking that.
No matter how many times you swing at that, it isn’t suddenly going to be 3 inches lower.
This is odd, but I agree with Joe Buck.
That is a disgusting act.
He’s not a dumb guy. He’s just an extremely irritating one.
I had the following conversation with two different people who are not even Giants fans yesterday and today:
Obnoxious person: blah blah Giants
Me: Yeah, I hate the Giants

She shouldn’t quit her day job.
Worst GBA I’ve ever heard
You shouldn’t rewrite it, especially if you can’t sing in the first place.
Posted from a fucking idiot on facebook:
IT’S NOT A FUCKING NATIONAL ANTHEM YOU DUMBASS
Thanks, and go As.
I’d be thinking about letting Bumgarner finish. Why would you rather have Jairo out there?
two lefties in the 9th if he retires the side in order
If he ends up winning MVraPist I’m going to break something.
like anybody but madbum is gonna win it. even if he gives up three homers in a row and loses the game.
Thanks, and go As.
I’d be ok with that.
at least the walkoff game 7’s a real thing.
Yost rhymes with toast.
lol Yost let Aoki hit with Willingham on the bench.
Thanks, and go As.
Twice!
Surprising Boche doesn’t at least have Jairo warming in the pen just in case.
why isn’t dunn hitting
SEND THE FUCKING RUNNER YOU DUMB PIECE OF SHIT
Thanks, and go As.
Yep.
Game over. They won’t get 2 hits. Welcome to hell, guys
Thanks, and go As.
LOL at Posey running out to the mound to celebrate.
I’ll definitely be passing on any A’s-Giants games in spring training.
[starts hedging with the hydrocodone dosage]
Well that’s just fucking great.
Baseball sucks and I hate it.
Tomorrow is going to be insufferable
I doubt you’ll have to wait until tomorrow.
Or that it will end after tomorrow.
Immediately tried to put on headphones at max volume after it ended, but could still hear the honks and yells from outside for hours
This basically cements the stranglehold the Giants have on the Bay Area.
That shit was already cemented.
Yep.
And with Sacramento becoming the Giants’ AAA team they’ve pretty much cut the heart out of the A’s sphere of influence.
I’m watching the Warriors game in Sacto right now, and when the baseball game ended basically the entire arena started cheering so loud they had to stop the basketball game in confusion.

my neighborhood is under fire right now
Did you manage to avoid getting stabbed, bitten, or hit with celebratory gunfire?
yes. but my house was hit with celebratory fireworks.
Also, in court today I had more then one person tell me “you’r welcome” for vanquishing the royals for me.
A parade in the day time and Halloween crowds at night are an awful lot to ask of SFPD, I’d think they’d lobby hard for a Saturday parade.
yeah, I can’t imagine it on Friday. Saturday makes much more sense.
They should just move Halloween for the Giants.
It’s Friday at noon.
The only bright spot is that it’s forecast to literally rain on their parade. But they’ll probably manage to get out of that too.
SLF who works at the CA supreme court building on mcallister facing city hall park is working from home
I came into the office. Wish I hadn’t. Thank god for the rain.
which has helped wash away the garbage and trash off the sidewalks?
I think the parade is still happening
win
Here is a man who would not take it anymore.
I didn’t. No regrets.
Well, a great season of baseball…….
This would have been the year for the season-ending strike in early August.
I still cannot fucking believe we lost the wild card game.
Jesus fucking Christ, wake me when it is April (or late, late March?).
Thanks baseball, for slapping me in the face with this bullshit after the worst season of A’s baseball I’ve ever witnessed.
It was the best of seasons, it was the worst of seasons.
Not to split hairs here, but I’ll still take this season over anything in 2007 to 2011.
The trade with the Cubs though, is the burn that keeps on burning.
I don’t know. Those seasons stunk, but at least I could mostly ignore them and they never got my hopes up.
The ending fucking sucked, but I did enjoy coming here and refreshing the board multiple times a day through the month of September.
I recall not enjoying that at all.
To top this all off, my aunt texted me with “Yeah Giants!!!!” I texted her back with “Boooooo” then, for some reason, had to explain to her I’m an A’s fan, not a Giants fan. You’d think she’d have figured this out a long time ago.
People in my family do this all the time. My mom does this.
Same here. Though my mom also still thinks Trix are my preferred breakfast.
Silly mother.
LOL
You know what sucks? It’s impossible to murder a baseball team, because they are just abstract entities.
I keep accidentally almost opening facebook.
I keep accidentally almost going outside or talking to other humans.
I;m watching Top Chef instead. Should be a wonderful escape, except their challenge is in Fenway fucking Park.
I hope there’s an out of control grease fire.
there is a scene you don’t want to see
Was it the reverent heraldry as they approached Fenway? Or when Padma told Eck he should have been a Yankee.
It certainly wasn’t the one where Padma enjoyed the, uh, company, of the Fenway Frank.
the yankee one.
I carved my pumpkins and watched The Good Wife. And then I put my pumpkins out. And then by morning some asshole had stolen them.
wtf? Who does that?
Thanks, and go As.
Exactly. And this is not the first year it has happened! And they don’t steal any of our other decorations, just the pumpkins.
Pumpkins never go out until 4pm on Halloween. That way we enjoy them in the house and they stay safe until the end.
Squirrels.
Me too. Serious avoidance time
Gotta give credit to Bochy for mostly superb managing throughout the playoffs. Taking out Hudson after just 2 tonight was gutsy but a good move. I doubt our manager would’ve done the same.
Trying to decide whether it’s safe to get on muni yet or whether I should just stay in my office forever.
How long is forever?
Until baseball finally dies.
I don’t see what everyone’s so down about. I mean, OK, the Giants won 3 of the last 5 WS and all but put a ribbon bow on domination of the region for the next 20 years, but why the sad faces? Presentation of the Luxury Tax Check is tomorrow morning… I heard our friends in ownership are taking home 20 million this year! Glad that no matter what happens on the field, the real trophy they are interested in is always just a handout away.
I’m done with baseball. I’ll come tailgate now and then but whatever.
Thanks, and go As.
What probably gets me the most is no matter what the A’s try to do, they always fail in October. No matter how undeserving the Giants are, over the past few years there’s not a single thing they can do wrong when it comes to the postseason. That bugs me more than anything else.

Thanks, and go As.
The A’s are probably less than 1 standard deviation under $117 million, so I guess they aren’t cheapskates.
Still $88 million vs. $154 million is a big fucking difference.
Question: How much of that difference is from SF’s stadium revenues, not including gate receipts? Do the Giants have a better TV/Radio deal?
Without even looking I can pretty much guarantee they have a better TV/Radio deal. Hell, the A’s radio station talks about the Giants more than the A’s.
Either way without actually knowing the revenue numbers there is no way of telling, but that’s also what makes the playing field inherently unfair.

As far as frontrunners go, the River Cats are pretty much the minor league equivalent of it.
I get that it makes sense for them from the business side.
But after all the shit that happened between Baltimore and Washington I don’t understand the indifference MLB is showing towards Oakland.
Fixed.
Thanks, and go As.
And that’s the source of my animosity.
One of the Giants’ goals is to drive the team I follow out of the area, or if they stay, to render them as irrelevant as possible.

FK everything.
Including today’s bird cage liner.
Heh. Is this an FK meme now?
The one I found on the doorstep 25 years ago yesterday will never suffer that fate.
Quite so. Let’s get the results overthrown on account of Bumgarner not being human
Woman at Coffee Place: Are you going to the parade?

Her face when I said “A’s fan” was a mixture of confusion, pity, and disgust. She truly could not understand how someone could live and work in the Bay Area and be an A’s fan. Not “San Francisco.” The “Bay Area.”
It’s this attitude that drives me bonkers. Acknowledge our legitimacy, dammit!
what’s so legitimate about a team that lost 74 season games in the face of a team that won 88 of them??
…is how i remember talking when i talked about baseball.
It’s like being a fan of Iggy and the Stooges when most people around you are lined up for Barry Manilow.
but…but…you just don’t get it. He writes the songs that make the WHOLE WORLD sing!
Excellent.
I am hoping that is sewer back up rather than rain run off.
The Coliseum Sewage account retweeted that picture too….
I say you can’t be a dynasty without making the playoffs two years in a row.
I agree. I might give them a partial pass for the year Posey got hurt, but not last year.
Amen.
Normally I’d agree and if we were talking about 2 wins – 1 loss I’d be on your side… but 3 championships is 3 championships.
Dynasty.
And Rickey should’ve been a unanimous selection.
It’s not deserved, but I don’t think I can really argue against the dynasty label now. Three championships in five years is unfortunately dynastic. I will however, argue that they might be the weakest organization ever to qualify for a dynasty label
Ok, maybe they’re a dynasty. Let’s see if they’re the worst dynasty in baseball history (my gut expects so)
Heartily concur’d. The 76 win team does some damage to the notion too.
Jesus Christ there’s a fucking panda float.
FK that rapist.
They said on the radio the Cal band will be there. Can’t we call territorial rights on that?
But by that logic we’d have to give up you. Totally not worth it.
Aw shucks {blushes}
lies
I had seen last night that Parker was going to be there. I cant think of a single reason why he/she/it shouldnt take off and just destroy as much of the parade as possible-double birds the whole way, throwing things at the Giants FO, etc.
They should have sent a real grizzly bear.
Crouch down, drop unwrapped Tootsie Rolls behind butt, offer candy to fans. Repeat.
I’d rather eat bear poop than a tootsie roll.
It’ll be like picking up an ace at some point for a couple of weeks.
I wouldn’t mind. really. Low expectations and all.
He survives spring training, your optimism increases, then by the end of April kablooey. It happens every time.
I agree that Parker should move to the bullpen.
LOL comment:
Absolutely no interest in Brett Anderson whatsoever from me. Fuck him.
I’ll get this over with.
Cal’s chance in the Big Game is not zero for the first time in several years.
I’ll admit I’m a bit concerned about Big Game this year. I really wish we could get Pep Hamilton back.
Was not prepared for fall-back hopes to be crushed quite that dramatically.
If Greg Roman isn’t fired after that..
Thanks, and go As.
There’s plenty of room for you both here on the Raiders bandwagon. So much room. You can even ride shotgun.
The bad thing is as horrible as the Niners were they should have won the game.
1st and 1 and you call a rollout pass and a QB sneak… WTF.
Crabtree was in though. That was a TD.
Thanks, and go As.
I actually didn’t think it was a touchdown, or at least too close to overturn.
The 49ers only had one timeout, so one pass made a certain amount of sense. But then you give it to your best running back, not Kaepernick behind the rookie center who had been shoved around the entire game.
Ball was clearly over the plane when Crabtree caught it, by rule if it’s a catch it’s gotta be a TD
The internet is screaming about Kaepernick being over the goal line before the ball came loose on the sneak, too, but who knows
Thanks, and go As.
But did Crabtree have control of the ball at that point? I didn’t think so.
If he didn’t, it isn’t a catch at all since it then hits the ground and squirts a little.
I was pretty shocked by that one, and I’m not usually shocked by replay choices.
The Niners got screwed on replays that game. They should have got a safety from Tavon Austin, Crabtree should have had a TD, and that Kaep fumble was questionable at best. It looked like his elbow hit the ground before the ball came out to me
Ok, but they also got the Gore fumble wrong (and the Austin out-of-bounds, though that one didn’t matter).
I don’t agree on the Austin safety, or the replay “call stands” on Kaep. Agree the Crabtree catch should have been overturned on review.
Yep. It was an obvious safety.
Thanks, and go As.
This. Just station four cameras with fixed views, two for each goal line.
or why fox doesn’t have goal line cameras for that play?
I don’t agree with that on the safety. I think the ball was back across the line when contact was initiated, but I’m open to being persuaded if someone has the image.
Completely agree on Kaep. Thank god we didn’t give Gore a carry down there. Effing Roman.
This. How does Gore not touch the ball with the game (and, quite possibly, playoffs) on the line.
I’m still thinking we are a 9 win team. Which misses the playoffs.
Centers are kind of important, it seems.
Real?
Now I wanna see Charlie Chan fight George Liquor American in a steel cage death match.
Not to celebrate the Giants at all, but I’d heard about this and ran across a video tonight. You’re a band from Vermont, playing in San Francisco on the night of Game 7, and early on in your first set the Giants win it. How do you handle it? You can see Page checking offstage a couple times and then around 3:15 the crowd starts to roar. By 4:45 they’re right back into “The Moma Dance”; I thought they did pretty well.
