Looks like Reddick can turn his head well enough to play, and no Callaspo. Pomeranz on the hill, we’ll see how rusty he is. Contra to an earlier comment of mine, I’m not rooting for Jerome Williams to do something historic.
S. Fuld, CF
S. Vogt, 1B
J. Donaldson, 3B
A. Dunn, DH
B. Moss, LF
J. Reddick, RF
J. Lowrie, SS
D. Norris, C
E. Sogard, 2B
Nor do I want the A’s to surpass the ’69 Cubs.
Because you know
I’m all about that basehit
‘Bout that basehit, no triples
Gotta love that inspirational spirit.
lowrie, let’s not have one of these days, ok?
More strikes would be nice, Pomegranate.
This is why it sucks to be a two pitch pitcher.
whew. good apple.
KC rallying off Nathan.
KC loses.
KC loses. Detroit in good shape for the sweep tomorrow with Porcello vs Guthrie.
Weird how KC pinch hit Ibanez for Willingham but not any of the weak hitting guys before him.
They have a truly terrible manager.
I mean it was their biggest at bat of the last how many decades and they took out one of their good hitters for a guy hitting .168/.261/.287 this year.
ibanez has 1 hit off nathan in 11 ABs… but it was a home run!
Because Aoki is hitting .800 this week, dude
And yet when he came up in the first inning with two on/none out, they had him sac bunt.
Playing The Game Right >> Hot Streaks >> Actually Good
Nice inning Drew.
Green alts at home? What is this madness?
Seems like they’ve mostly abandoned the golds, and the green alts have taken up the slack.
Only 13 Gold uni days (5-9) this year.
We’ve worn the hell out of the green alts.
47-30 in the green tops this year, including 18-6 at home. Not bad.
Another good inning there Pomo!
Becoming more and more on board with Pomeranz displacing Kazmir in a potential playoff game.
Sammy on short rest.
Against slegnA I dont even want Kaz on the roster. Let him got to AZ and get some simulated staring down ump work in.
heh
Haha, Byrd is so bad in the outfield.
Adam Dunn, basehit machine!
Ben Revere 2.0
Looks like another big crowd today.
Daytime fireworks.
It was. Lots of people sitting in depressed silence for three hours.
Nice, Reddick.
Not a single fucking strike.
That last pitch might have been called a strike but with a 3-1 count Norris has to take.
Fuck you Norris.
Sigh.
Drat. That was not the hitter’s pitch Norris should have been waiting for on 3-1.
It feels like the A’s must be historically bad with the bases loaded. I’m sure they aren’t, but that’s how it feels.
i was looking for a comment last night to see how far back i’ve had that feeling too. something like, “how do you get the A’s out without scoring? let them load the bases first.” couldn’t find it though.
Game Four of the 2013 ALDS?
not likely. i was at the new parkway IIRC, and you have to sit in the lobby to get wifi.
Jane Lee’s been getting snarkier.
Fortunately there were other exciting moments.Today sucked
The guys on this team are really bad with the bases loaded.
They had some absurd number of bases loaded, no outs situations where they failed to score in some recent season. Maybe 2012, or even last year? I know Slusser made an issue of it.
Damn, Donaldson has just missed going yard a bunch in the last few games. Looks like his timing is dialed in but he’s just not quite hitting to ball square. Very close.
Meanwhile Glen still can’t gauge fly balls.
IT’S REALLY HARD, OKAY?!
That one looked like it might go to me too.
i forgot my phone for the first soccer game of the day. got in the car during donaldson’s AB. DIdn’t get the score until after the inning was over.
Pom is the best at 5 inning shutouts.
Problems with Pomeranz:
1) Only pitches five innings
2) In rare bad start, has penchant for punching stuff
Again? Right on.
On a side note, as Cahill is pitching today, you know that Cahill who posted BABIP of .236 in 2010 who my eyes and broadcasting experience tell me will have historically low BABIP because he knows how to pitch, induces weak contact, was a shortstop in HS and is more adaptable than the influenza virus, well that Cahill has in 4 years since had BABIP of .301, good for 50th highest of 170 qualified pitchers. I’m just in that kind of a mood. Now back to your regular programming.
It was pretty funny the next year when Cahill’s FIP (4.10) pretty much matched his ERA (4.16).
When someone is a smug asshole, sometimes you just have to rub it in. I approve of your message.
but enough about your masturbation technique…
:O
LMAO
ASVD
My poor sad Killer Bunny.
Oh look, Angel Hernandez was involved in that screwy play in Kansas City.
Sogard’s defensive problems have been a real disappointment.
“the manner of the method in which they did.”
no wonder he understood “consensus of information.”
The A’s cannot even run up Jerome Williams’ pitch count.
It is amazing that this team was 3rd in the AL in runs scored heading into today.
Funny fact of the day: Of all the players in history with at least 100 SB attempts the five with the highest stolen base percentage are still active. Can you name them?
Rickey
Utley, Werth
Beltran, Revere, Werth, Ellsbury, Utley
And on a similar note, five players with the highest SB% and at least 100 SBA who have played at least a part of their career for the A’s
Rickey
Gentry, Raj, Holliday, Wilson, Crisp
lol glad i turned this on.
Thanks, and go As.
Of course.
Too late for Abad now. But mostly, it’s more crap hitting for the A’s.
Seriously? Freddy fucking Galvis? All four feet of him?
Honestly, I wasn’t too sad since the other way this game was going was 0-0 in 20 innings before Selig declares a tie
Well given that almost every prior pitch was belt and high and perfect to hit, that last pitch is really surprising.
That’s the thing about scoring in one inning. It’s better than not scoring in any inning.
Nobody can leave the yard except for Freddy Galvis.
Oh, good. The A’s are on a scoreless inning streak again.
Run for Lowrie please.
Callaspo is going to pinch hit? That’s a joke, right?
It’s as if we’re actively trying to lose this game.
sometimes i wonder if callaspo knows the difference between “hit” and “a loaf.”
This is the idiotic flaw in Melvin’s thinking. You pinch hit a guy in a horrible slump. He’s a horrible second baseman, but you leave him in the game on defense.
Lynn!
Thought so!!
I was right in front of her — it was very exciting!
Wait, we know her?
yes. for the life of me I can’t remember her name here. I read it as “lynn”
Is her handle lynnz? I think it was at AN.
lynnzgal.
KK trying to keep it exciting with his voice. well, bless his heart.
Who is the guy in the dugout with the braided beard?
We’ve only won three games in a row once in the second half over a month ago.
As of now, it’s basically a three-way tie for the Wild Card spots.
The travel schedule becomes quite impressive in that scenario for the Royals and A’s. The Mariners would be playing all home games.
A’s would get to go to KC then winner goes to the M’s. How fun would that be Ray?
royals have a suspended game in the 8th down 4-2 to make up
It feels kind of dirty rooting for the Tigers. But I guess I’ll just have to for one more game.
Well, it’s up to the undefeated California Golden Bears to save the day.
The A’s collapse is frustrating because they don’t have a history of that (in the regular season; Division Series a different story). With Cal, I know what’s coming, so I can take it with more of a sense of humor.
Even in the playoffs they don’t collapse like this. Dropping two or three straight games where they have chances can happen. Even multiple times. This… this is something else entirely.
Yuck.
Chris Carter, the NL leader in HR
He might have come in handy on the A’s.
Keuchel got out of a bases loaded, no out mess in the top of the fourth. Astros leading 5-1.
LOL. Seattle and KC are doing their utmost best to get the A’s in to the playoffs, aren’t they.
god bless them
If I’m reading the standings correctly,(and this is even sloppier than back of the envelope, it was back of a paper plate, so if I’m wrong please correct me) it would be possible for the A’s to clinch a WC spot on Wednesday if they win and KC and Seattle lose all their games over the next four days. But even if that happened, it wouldn’t happen until Wednesday evening when the other teams play. If our boys lose and the others both win all our games between now and Wednesday, the A’s still can’t be eliminated until Thursday at the earliest.
So when the A’s leave the field on Wednesday, we won’t know whether we’re going to see them next Tuesday for the wild card, or watch them on TV in a wild-card playoff in KC or Seattle, or whether we’re parting to be reunited at FanFest or Mesa or back here at the end of spring training.
This seemed like an unusual situation to me…my memory of the previous 14 seasons includes a lot of joyous jumping up and down on our own field, and a lot of Geren-era seasons where we were effectively out of it in May and mathematically out of it long before this point in September. There was that sad end of 2004, which this feels a bit like, where the team was limping and exhausted and it was hard to wish for their agony to go on any further, when they got eliminated on the second-to-last day. But at least that was at home. The new wild card format encourages this kind of horrible ambiguity, since even if your team goes into the one-and-done, they may not get back home.
That sounds about right. But it does come with the note that if we were to win through Wednesday with the other two losing that would guarantee us at least a game 163.
i hope you were done eating first.
Nice of Cal to try and out-do the A’s.
I was less bitter about Cal’s loss.
The soul-crushing defeat just when we’re starting to get our hopes up, usually related to defensive collapse or special teams disasters, is one of our most enduring school traditions.
At least the A’s haven’t sent out emails with the team store AL West Champions 2014 discount code.
