                  What this place needs is more two-out base hits to drive in runs. Maybe a few non-futile bases-loaded/no-out situations.

    It occurs to me that if the A’s were to finish in a tie for the second wild card, Lester would be on turn to pitch Game 163, and with a win it would be Hammel/Pomeranz in the wild card game.

    What I discovered Blew. My. Mind. -- Pat Boone
    • bear88 Sep 19,2014 8:45 pm || Up

      If it’s against the Mariners, I would definitely go with Pomeranz because he’s left-handed. (The A’s wouldn’t face Felix, at least as a starter.)

      If it’s the Royals or Tigers, I don’t know.

  22. bear88 Sep 19,2014 8:39 pm

        • bear88 Sep 19,2014 8:52 pm || Up

          I wasn’t really sure what the A’s plan was there. Safety squeeze, I guess. But the third baseman was closer to the plate than Lowrie. It really didn’t work. It’s just not what the A’s are good at.

        • dmoas Sep 19,2014 9:15 pm || Up

          Had Burns been in there it would have been a run. But had he been in there it would have telegraphed the squeeze. Fuck you Lowrie and your slowness.

    I want to believe. But scoring in one inning, check. Threaten and fail multiple times, check. Barely edge out a shitty team, check. We can’t be world beaters in all games, so there’s that, but this still looks like the frustratingly bad team we’ve watched the second half of the season and not a group that’s figuring it out. :(

    • 5Aces Sep 20,2014 11:10 am || Up

      You might be right. But it seemed like we had a lot more “one hit aways” than we have had recently. I still think Lowrie needs to go to #9/become Parrino even after the triple, but other than that I felt a different vibe. And as crazy as it sounds, maybe it’s just that they all believe in Stephen Vogt.

      Either way I am going to try and stay glass half full at least until a bad thing does happen. Maybe I can go buy a Pollyanna wig or something.
