Pfft. Of course it matters! We can’t let someone named Chris Young beat us.
Thinking like that is going to make this team lose. Cut that shit out.
Yeah, we had enough of that LAST season!
There’s your run Lester, don’t spend it all in one place.
is the internet broken?
Lester is going to throw 128 pitches in 8 innings today
let him without sinning hard drives cast the first complaint about the computer age!
Ray says our schedule against the Rangers and Phillies isn’t easy. Does he think we should be playing against Laney college?
Dude, Laney college would kick our ass.
a graphic on the seattle feed had games left against teams below .500:
A’s 10
tigers 10 (lotta twins, some white sox)
KC 7 (all white sox)
mariners 3 (astros)
jays 0
and the astros are not really pushovers right now
Was that just 4 pitches? SMH
5!
do sorta think lester could give at least an ounce of a FK about controlling the running game.
I’d rather he figure out wtf is wrong with his command.
Lester is decidedly not sharp. He’s survived thus far, despite throwing more than 60 pitches in 3 innings. It would behoove the A’s to score more than 3 runs.
Tigers won, Royals losing after 8. (Kansas City also has a likely but not guaranteed loss coming in a suspended game.)
Moss started showing flashes a few days ago. But now he’s back to looking hopeless. The last at-bat last night was pathetic.
Finally! Even better, Moss broke his homer-less streak later in the same game, so I got to look foolish aside from pessimistic.
The A’s at-bats take about 2 minutes. The Mariners are up forever.
Do we have any way of checking on Bed? 17-0 Texans in Q2 may push him to drive to Oakland to have words with DA about having the football players make football plays.
not so loud. he’s napping.
I flipped over to the game, just got bothered by what a mess they’re making of the field.
Plus, why can’t I watch the Chargers-Seahawks game?
Remember when Justin Smoak was the can’t-miss prospect and the subject of many angst-ridden fan writings?
$50,000 billy is so cheap
Lester isn’t even bothering with the runners. It’s a one-run game!
It would explain a lot, and, with Jaso, Vogt, and now Soto all hurt, it’s hard to blame him for trying to play through something.
Melvin doesn’t trust Bryan Anderson, so Norris will keep playing. Donaldson has leg problems of some sort, it was mentioned last night.
Might as well just give Jackson second base.
There is something wrong with Norris. He is just air mailing every throw to second.
Don’t make me so nervous, Sam.
A tease at the end, but Boston beat the Royals.
I kind of hope that’s the last inning for Lester. Not so sure I trust the bullpen, but his command is such crap today, I think we’re playing with fire.
Lester will pitch the sixth. I agree with you on his command, but the biggest problem is that the A’s can’t score.
Hey, Coco got a hit!
Lester got out of it again, but he can’t last more than two more innings if that. A 1-0 A’s win seems pretty unlikely.
On one hand I don’t feel like I’m watching an Ace. But on the other, thus is what Aces do-dont have your stuff and can’t hold runners on? You still make enough pitches and get back in the dugout with a 0.
Heh. We only have one hit.
Heh. We only have two hits.
Wrong!
There are times when I think teams might be overdoing it with the shift. And then you have Dunn’s line drive.
nice shot.
I startled the cat badly on the Moss HR.
I’ll be damned! Moss!
All the A’s starters know how Chris Young feels.
BRANDSOME!!!!
no wait that isnt it….
Give me a second here, its been awhile…..
…..
MOSSUME!!!!
they thought he was dead but he was just playing mossum.
B MO!
the legacy of elegance guy reminds me of bobby haft, the crown books guy. at 8:30.
supposedly bobby was selfconscious of his high voice and on radio commercials they’d slow it down a tad to help him out.
and yet, i was happier with lester.
Trouble immediately with Otero.
Dammit. Otero’s pitch wasn’t good, but Norris is too much of a physical wreck to stop anything at this point.
Concede the run.
I guess the logic of not going to a lefty there was that anyone can strike out Saunders.
Walk Cano?
Risky to load the bases, but I don’t want Cano beating me if I’m Melvin.
melvin is a genius.
Woooo!
Escape! I thought blowing obvious scoring opportunities was the A’s thing.
Mariners fans seem to have all the baseball acumen of Giants fans when it comes to judging whether a routine fly ball is worth cheering about.
That wasn’t even close. It was a routine fly ball, and the fans reacted like it had any chance of falling or going out.
It’s called pulling a Glen Kuiper.
they may be worse than giant fans because they have not been fans for 3 whole years, only about half a year
Otero just needed more pressure to pitch effectively.
Nice for Coco to get a couple of hits.
and score!
Sam Fuld!
Mistake to keep throwing Dunn fastballs.
Four runs! What a bonanza!
I have to love Ratto sometimes.
If you are not going to give Norris some rest here you should just release Anderson.
Anderson? Who?
It’s like getting a mediocre not even 4-A catcher in mid-September!
Just think if we didn’t have 12 catchers on the roster! We’d be hurtin for certain.
You can never have enough catching.
Instead of having a catcher, can we just put a sheet of plywood behind home plate?
One of those bounce back nets.
I believe Ray said “Smoak is behind”. The captioning person decided it was “smoked his behind”. I want the captioning person to do pxp.
Norris, barely able to get throw to first. He’s hurting. I hope the Monday off helps.
It is amazing that we spent half the year making jokes about all the catchers in our lineup and now we have 1 usable Catcher even after picking up another one.
it’s a basic fact of life. there ought to be a name for it.
like, buy one pencil, you have it till it doesn’t write anymore. buy 4, pretty soon you lose one because when you couldn’t find it you grabbed another, then a friend wanted to borrow one and since it wasn’t his he chewed it and broke the eraser, you have no idea what happened to the third (but next time you go to a wedding you find it in the suit you wore to the last wedding), and that last one you hold on to till it doesn’t write anymore.
that reminds me, I have to get my ear buds out of the pants I was wearing before
That reminds me I need to yell at the eldest Ace about leaving his earbuds in his pants pockets. Just found his latest pair in the dryer in multiple pieces.
Better yet… don’t yell, and just say “Here’s your headphones back, dude. Looks like the washing machine ate ’em. Bummer.” and walk away…
This. Definitely this.
Ray, the minimum number of pitches for an inning isn’t 9. It’s 3. Hell, technically it’s zero.
Explain zero
Pitcher stands on mound. Refuses to pitch. Umpire calls ball for delaying game until Batter gets on base. Pitcher picks off runner. Repeat times 3.
I believe the ump could also call a ball if thhe pitcher goes to his mouth as if to throw a spitball.
Yep. That too.
It’s a wonder why Greg Smith ever bothered to try to pitch the ball.
There is the semantic question of whether one of those called balls counts as a pitch, even though the ball is never thrown.
Ooh, this is a good one though:
That would be great for those games where you are trying to make the game official to aavoid a rainout while leadding, etc.just start hoping from one side to the other.
Minimum number of pitches would be 1, not zero.
First pitch triple, 3 consecutive batter interference plays on attempts to steal home. Batter is out, runner returns to third, no pitch.
Thanks, and go As.
Nope. See above.
When did Melvin get glasses?
This weekend.
Back to being nervous about Doolittle.
95 on strike three.
Doolittle throwing sliders for strikes. That’s unusual.
Game over. That was a huge series win.
Two! Wins in a row!
A bit of breathing room in the wild card.
And a day off, much needed for our catchers especially.
Two wins in a row..ha ha ha…
Shhhhhhhh
it’s a celebration.
10.5 back with 13 to go. i say the division is the A’s to win.
All right, that was good.
The team plane is currently scheduled to arrive at the Oakland charter airport at 6:46 PM, although that might be pushing it a bit. Anyway, for those who want to greet the team: take Hegenberger, right on Doolittle (Yeah, right on, Doolittle!), left on Swan, right on Earhart.
Trying to figure this out.
The Wild Card play-in game is on Tuesday, Sept. 30?
The first home Wild Card game is on Sunday, Oct. 5?
Is that right?
looks right.
play in.
no home wildcards
home wildcards
I’m going to get tickets for the Sunday Wild Card game. See what an optimist I am?
Anyone interested in going to the possible play-in game on Tuesday with me? I don’t have anyone to go with to that game.
Anyone have that link to the postseason tix info?
Single game tix on sale tomorrow for WC and ALDS.

Merci!
Question..is “upper level” the 300s in the original bowl – the seats like VD. Or are they something different. Im trying to figure out what I could look at $$ wise but not get a crap view.
Yes, pretty sure what they’re selling tomorrow as Upper Level are the Value Deck sections of 316-7-8 only. My guess is that they won’t start selling any of the currently tarped 300 level sections until later.
doesn’t the VD become media seating during playoffs?
Only about 15-20% of it.
You were supposed to write “doesn’t the media get VD during the playoffs?”
In case anyone is looking, they are opening up other sections at this point. Just bought 2 for ALDS game one and I got sec 319. My assumption is they will just go section bby section, but on line really doesn’t say one way or the other.
So FSU what time is the tailgate starting?
WC game too, I got section 315.
Maybe we should actually make INTO the playoffs before we start planning tailgates?
nope. one way or another I expect a grill iin that lot.
Bought WC and ALDS tickets, all 318
ALDS starts on the Thursday following the play-in game, so yes, that seems right.
Glad to see the boys won. I hope they can keep it going.
Texas League champs!
Is this a good place to revive the Smith vs Kaepernick debate?
I’ll take Kaep. He has a bigger upside by a mile. Rough night but by the highlights two of those picks were great plays by the defender. The fumble was pretty bad though. I only saw the last quarter but the O-Line wasn’t great. Jonathan Martin was getting beat like a drum at RT.
To me, there is no question which direction the Niners should’ve gone. It just amazes me that people will still bring up Smith whenever Kaepernick has a bad game.
There was a question at the time. There isn’t any more.
I’m not sure any of those picks were bad decisions, and the fumble was preventable but not completely careless.
The Conte pick was pretty bad. Not even trying to look him off. That’s one of his biggest problems, he stares down his receiver.
The first pick by Fuller was in Crabtree’s hands. The second pick was a great play by Fuller.
Kap takes the blame for them all, but that’s all anybody wants to do rather than give credit to other guys who make good plays.
Thanks, and go As.
There’s no debate.
Thanks, and go As.
Just a quarterback who can’t make decisions, either before or after the snap, without taking ten minutes.
Tough to make quick decisions when you’re running for your life.
Thanks, and go As.
so’s the 0, but you don’t hear anybody complaining about it.
Nice way to start a Monday
It just became Monday here and I’ve spent the last hour writing up a memo for work tomorrow…I’ve had better starts to a Monday.
Sounds like someone has a case of the Monday’s =(
