A’s looking to salvage a four game road split against a tough KC Royals squad. The A’s medical staff has prescribed the Ronnie Lott treatment for Jed Lowrie’s finger, which will then be diced up and used to chum the waters…this is Shark Week after all
Crisp (DH), Jaso (2), Donaldson (5), Moss (7), Vogt (3), Reddick (9), Callaspo (4), Fuld (8), Sogard (6). Samardzija (1).
MLB.tv free game of the day, btw.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
MLB.tv free game useless for locals trying to watch from work, I now realize.
Not with the appropriate steps …
Mr. Shields appears to be having some control issues.
And Donaldson promptly helps him out by swinging at three pitches out of the zone.
Oh good more changeups.
Vogt’s helmet has reached Orlando Cabrera levels of yuckiness.
Can’t handle Vince today.
Butler and Willingham both just missed hanging sliders.
Shit’s getting real.
Hopefully Shark is ready to pitch a shutout.
And then hand it to the bullpen for another six or so.
Nope. We’re going to have to score after all.
Thanks, and go As.
That was fucking pathetic.
lawn dart from lawn level.
Is Andy Parrino here yet.
No way he could get to KC after Sacto game last night, probably already en route to ATL.
Callaspo is below Punto for me now. There is literally nothing he does well or even ok-ish anymore.
I know Roxy said Callaspo tried to make the throw “with his rear hand” but I chose to hear it as “with his rear end”.
SIddown, Seaweed.
Now Shark gets to worry the rest of the game.
Gosh, he looks terrible for his age. These few weeks with the A’s have really taken a toll on Samardzija.
And I never realized how Armenian he would look once he cut off all the hair.
Some sort of double play with the out at home is very possible with Callaspo running, even with no force…
Best possible outcome there.
OK, Callaspo’s back to even.
– . . . . . . | . . . . +
[smacks monitor to see if needle stuck]
Just a fucking awful full count pitch.
And that 8 pitch inning was brought to you by Future Ed, when you think of Ed’s think Future Ed for all your future needs.
asses
Because when you’re out of Future Ed…you’re out of Ed.
Steve Physioc has developed a nice midwestern old guy drawl.
teenage girls respond to it
He has not, however, developed any skills as a broadcaster.
No.
Hilarious true fact: Although there is no indication that Denny Matthews is supposed to be part of the TV broadcast, he apparently needed to step in to explain the obstruction/interference call on that bunt. Just out of nowhere, suddenly it’s Denny Matthews literally interrupting to explain the situation. Not because Physioc or Hudler or whoever is on the TV right now was confused, but because his ability to explain it was sub-Cotronean.
right ray, now the home run
triple OK
SOL!!!!
heh
Rally Helios
Wow
and he drops it!
Triple
The game is now on MLB network for those around a TV.
Reddick, Callaspo in tight race to see who can get to 40 RBIs first.
It’s a tense race, especially after Reddick’s dramatic preseason announcement that he would rack up 40 RBIs and 40 games played, becoming the latest member of the 40-40 club.
Callaspo is motivated now that he heard someone thinks he’s worse than Punto.
heh
Ben is not commenting right now becuase he is writing a 10,000 word post explaining how wrong this is.
I don’t need 10,000 words. Everyone knows it’s impossible to be worse than Nick Punto.
The new pitchers seem to be more partial to the white and Gray unis. I think I have seen the Oakland tops more in the past month than in the last season and a half.
Losing Parker helped.
Also Milone, he was a green jersey guy. I’m a big fan of the road grays since that’s the only jersey that actually says Oakland on it.
I like the name andI also think they look sharp. And I like a more balanced look between the 4 jerseys.
The foil hat part of me thinks Lew has taken the embargo off now that he is looking to maybe build in Oakland again.
Good call.
Batter interference on a bunt; I can only imagine Fosse is in ex-catcher announcer heaven.
he was quick to point it out. blurted some kind of wordgrunt in the middle of VC’s PxP.
YAAAAAH
why do they run on the grass? isn’t it harder to run?
The chance of getting away with it and forcing a wide or bad throw is probably worth the risk.
Yes, kudos to the umps for calling it correctly both times this series.
Throwing it right into the guy’s ass probably helped get the call.
huh.
closer?
I think it has a lot to do with where the body ends up after the bunt. If you watch the replay, the bunt just took him a bit out in front of the box and he started running straight to first from there. The extra couple steps it would require to make sure he was outside the line would probably have gotten him thrown out anyway.
Compliant pork has been compliant this series.
Reddick has the tough parts of the cycle already, I’m ready for the homer-single to finish it.
Switching from kc to oak radio for the 7th…
that’s a good call.
I wish my work computer would act better. I am parinoid that it will totally cut out if i try to change back and forth.
I may go for a run with my phone
Your work computer needs to establish some consistency.
which would give ed confidence.
especially with ray on pee break.
No O’Flaherty or Abad warming up?
Here’s an example of a rally likely assisted by not having gotten the starter’s pitch count up.
If in is absolutely wrong here.
I was eating cookies as Cook was brought in, I take this as a good omen.
I was wrong. This also might rob me of the chance to eat Doo in the 9th.
there is no connection.
yeah, it’s probably more because i’m not wearing socks.
Has to be called safe.
Doesn’t HAVE to, but I think it is too close to not call it.
dammit.
and doubledammit.
fucking hanging slider
0-2
Fuck this shit. Can’t believe a lefty didn’t come in.
Cook has pitched in 3 of the last 4 days. O’Flaherty hasn’t pitched in 5 days.
Jesus.
Dude has a 2.31 FIP and a history of success. But the pecking order of the bullpen goes Doo, Gregerson, Cook, Chavez, Otero. Then probably Abad. EOF is probably last on the totem pole. WTF?
I guess BoMel was worried about Perez PHing. But I would trust O’Flaherty against lefties and righties over tired Cook.
maybe he’ll get the chance when the game’s not as on the line to give one of the regulars a chance to rest…
Eric O’Doolittle
CLICK
being a KC fan in ’14 must feel a lot like being an OAK fan in ’13.
I’m looking forward to not playing them anymore so I can sort of quasi root for them.
Nope. As much as I would like to, I am fine with them ending up a game back in the central and 2 out of the WC or something like that. Don’t want to see them in Oct.
You’d rather face the Mariners or the Tigers???
Right this second? Yes.
As I was typing this I thought of Duke’s speech to Apollo in Rocky II which is very underrated. He begs Apollo to just move on “he’s all wrong for us baby…”.
I would be delighted to face them in the playoffs.
I would prefer the Orioles. Whether I would prefer the Tigers depends on Verlander and Sanchez’s situations.
I would probably prefer the Orioles, but very little chance of them in the alds.
Why?
They are not very good for a playoff team. Their offense is bad and their starting pitching is only ok. They are below .500 in baseruns/3rd order wins, way behind the other playoff contenders.
Well I hope that one of us gets our wish and is right.
Well, October isn’t right this second.
But I also cant tell you how I will feel in October. Heck, I cant tell you how I will feel after this weekend.
THEY MUST BURN
You’re closest. Do I need to send you matches?
No, I just walk by briskly.
’12
right.
Nah, they caught their Rangers way too soon.
I trust o’flaherty more than Cook and Gregerson, hope he gets some of the setup innings going forward.
One up in the loss column, it would appear.
bullpen—>feces—->the bed
sorry. can’t comment after clicking. it’s a rule.
Jeebus … I step away from the screen for a couple of minutes and this is what you guys do?
Your fault.
Balls. This isn’t what I wanted to see when I came back from a meeting
your return demands a comeback.
but not if reddick swings at those.
looks like green guy got heckled walking the aisle.
oh moss. oh well.
Nice. He’s wild to the batter before him, so yes, let’s swing at the first pitch and pop out.
That teAse deserved a 3-2 count with at least one long drive that hooks foul.
For a game I followed much more closely than most workday games, I found this especially unsatisfying.
didn’t get much work done, but my itunes got hella organized since the 6th inning.
Textbook teAse.
Single to tie was probably an out with the infield back. Just cannot play the infield in with an important run on 2B.
this is some bullshit right here
worst part might be that bed isn’t here to get our minds off this undeserved nonsense with some well-deserved nonsense. just look at the silence in this blog. i think tumbleweeds are about roll by. or maybe they’ll start commenting even.
I would have said something, but I was at Taco Truck Throwdown 4 stuffing my face with tacos and $2 beer. I know I’m the only one in favor, but man if TTT5 next year is with the A’s AAA team as our home team it will be nice. The only bad part of the evening was watching yet another horrible Grizzlies team drop another game in the standings.
let’s taco bout this.
It was so good. I actually was not going to go because it is so damn crowded, but my friend had a 4 pack of tixs he needed to use and we are running out of home games. Glad I did because we made it early enough to hit 2-3 trucks before the lines got crazy.
Yeah, fuck those volunteers!
Thanks, and go As.
