Wait, so the Bob Welch patches were just on the jerseys the 1989 team has? Not the guys playing? Lame, A’s. Why?
I forgot it was dog night :(
justice for the 96!
BOOBIES
Also, FK Manny
White, gray and white so far for Samardzija. A shark after my own heart!
I keep forgetting about Machado
There’s that outside strike often called on LHBs.
Enormous strike zone is enormous.
strike 3 to JJ was over the white. line of the batters box.
I’ll be curious to see if it’s actually within that common area off the plate or not.
At the very corner. But what is commonly called is more an oval than the full rectangle.
How did you get that already? I just get a message that says it’ll be up when the game’s over.
Dashboard (all pitches for both teams) is available live. The batter-by-batter ones are only available later.
Ohhhhhhhh.
First impression: the Home Run Derby did NOTHING to harm the swing of Yoenis Cespedes.
What a fking joke of a strike zone.
Nice slide.
loldavis
If The Magician gets the start over Keebs tonight there just has to be a better use of Keebs’ roster spot.
It seems like there have been 3 or 4 times when they’ve been about to send him down, but then someone else has gotten hurt (Blanks, Reddick, Callaspo). At some point his luck will run out.
maybe keebs is the magician.
nice reception by fans.
Saw someone at the state fair yesterday wearing a Polk High football jersey. Should’ve asked “How many touchdowns?”
That’s sort of a BS way of adding to your assist total.
Well…another assist for Cespedes.
Ha, cheap outfield assist.
Please stop doing that.
this.
Just your average 7-4 force play. (Please catch the ball next time.)
Dennis Eckersley is gold.
I’m not convinced he would get into the Hall of Fame if you held a new election today though. He and La Russa invented the one-inning save…but I think as the game evolves many others will do it better for longer, and 20 years from now the question “Why Eckersley?” will be asked quite a bit.
Hard to say. He had a solid career as a starter, then became a dominant closer in his early 30s and almost saved 400 games from then on. Smoltz is the only other guy I can think of who succeeded both as a starter and a closer.
Derek Lowe to a lesser extent.
But the point is that he did invent it. And that counts.
I wish he would quit mentioned He-Who-Should-Not-Be-Named, though.
As far as I’m concerned, as painful as it is to us, he’s the ONLY one allowed to mention his name.
Those little Machado pacifier heads A’s fans are holding up also have a crying, frowning bird logo. Classic.

it was going around on FB before the game.
How great is that?
I guess I misread the tweet by the A’s. Mentions only the 1989 team wearing the Bob Welch patch. Should be current team too, though.
The real celebration is supposed to be tomorrow so hopefully they’ll add them to the current team then.
Vince, you should wait till the play is over before saying “one all star throws out another”
The A’s really do a poor job handling retiring numbers. MLB HOF status shouldn’t be the only qualifier.
IMO that serves as a reasonable restriction and prevents you from doing dumb things like retiring Steve Garvey’s number (Padres). If you have 15 numbers retired, the honor starts losing its meaning.
And you start running out of numbers. The Yankees are gonna have to start using triple digits by 2050. Just you watch.
At some point in the future do you retire Billy’s number? I sort of like the idea even though doing another “A” might be more appropriate.
Sort of related, his ass should have been out there tonight (Sat).
He was going to see the minor league team in Visalia.
Samardzija’s been pretty wild today. It’s good that he’s facing a team that swings at everything.
smoak leads off with a double. Ackley bunts him over for Miller.
what are you thinking Lloyd?
Ackley is terrible? Miller is better? It’s going to a close, low scoring game?
miller struck out
I know…
Miller is better how?
Better career numbers, better ros projection, better the past month, half season of sucking in mlb vs. 3 years in a row. (Of course they both suck about the same.)
Wow, Samardzija is all over the place tonight. Hardy’s fortunate on that one. So are A’s to have not allowed any runs yet.
Baseball!
fuck
Awful, awful pitch.
I don’t think he really can control it today
The A’s gave up Addison Russell for this so I expect perfection dammit.
and the Angels score.
two
BEARD
Our catchers are amazing.
Our MIFs are not.
I thought that said MILFs.
Lets go Andy. Make us forget about RollinsJust for the record, I bought a car from Frontier Ford once – never again!
Street + prospect -> slegnA
4 slegna prospects -> Padres
Depending on what the Padres got, I’d have to say win for them.
slegnA are going to have quite the deep bullpen.
As for what they they gave up, we can’t really be pointing any fingers about mortgaging the future.
but it does make them weaker for 2015. Won’t be able to plug holes as easily.
I bet thye go after lester or Scherzer pretty hard
They’ll probably still have Street next year.
what I meant was weaker in terms of trade bait.
Also, Brandon Moss Owns him. At least in Japan.
oh come one Jeff!
stop walking people
Bullpen please
Nice kick-save by Parrino on that helmet.
weaver getting squeezed
Bats, bodies and helmets flying everywhere.
gross. i have to root for logan morrison
well, its an inning late, but I expect the A’s to see 10 pitches this inning
bases loaded for the M’s two out in the 6th and the fans are doingthe wave in Anaheim
grrrr
Nice 7 pitch inning from our all stars.
smaok takes strikes 2 and 3. both in same spot maybe inside
asshole
dammit Jeff.
Outs
fucking hell
Well that was painful.
HIM?!?
your move josh donaldson 280/272/552
that was your slash line the day Machado threw his helmet at you. Be that guy
373 was the obp
Machado since that game: .298/.344/.491
Shit. THEY STOLE OUR THIRD BASEMAN!!!!
well done josh
Well done Ed,
ackley doubled miller singled 2-1.
Turns out Ackley is twice as good as Miller.
I don’t think Machado homering was part of tonight’s script.
I Believe in DO OVERS, I Believe in DO OVERS…
M’s tie it.
I forgot about cook
What about Dre?
Showalter won’t like two of his guys getting hit high (just sayin’; may come up later in the series).
One of our guys will be getting drilled sometime this weekend.
make it donaldson. at least he’ll get on base
all-star burn.
Would like a better ratio of runs to hit batters now.
stop talking about jim johnson ken. it only makes us mad
hit him!
excellent
x2
x3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hmm…
Time for a JD walkoff
holy shit!
ok
Wow
ALL-STAR BOMB!
Wheeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!
Holy FKing FK!!!!!
Not a bad way to start the second half.
(I admit it, I had given up.)
Me too. It also didn’t look well hit off the bat (from the CF camera angle).
PIE
Welcome back, Josh Donaldson!!!!
Maybe he’s back now…
He’d better be… because if he isn’t… [shakes fist]
Where did his jersey go?
fucking punto. He needs to stop that.
He lost his jersey fucking Punto? I’ll say he needs to stop thst-he doesnt know where that thing has been.
Wait. He FUCKED Punto???!!!
Yeah. Homerun.
Pie makes his clothes fall off.
Makes mine get tighter.
TWSS
Schwing!
Felix Pie?
you gotta be this — tall to lift up the gatorade bucket.
This team.
This was better than the Nathan bomb.
I was so glad I was listening to the radio. Ken was epic.
we’ll be hearing that all next year
made me run around with my arms in the air. may have been some pent up goal celebration in there, but credit goes to the call too.
Is it online anywhere?
yup
That’s a nice one to save.
I live how he stops talking for a moment and let’s the crowd noise come through.
I’d say Donaldson got the last laugh on Machado tonight.
yup
In fairness, Machado still quietly rubbed in the fans’ faces.
Oops.
He followed that up with a tweet saying that JD should get “plenty of chin music tonite.” So, big-time asshole.
Dear M’s, a little help?
Interesting that it was three straight all-stars to win the game.
Well how about that?
thanks mel
Its a good line. But can someone else besides fat Osegueda tweet it pls? H-A-T-E him.
I like it.
No atmosphere at all at this Angels game.
well, the all had to get the train home.
oh wait.
cano’s gonna get called out. its bullshit because mcdonald is kind pushing him
Yeah. This is the kind of play where I would rather not have replay.
I don’t blame mcdonald. he did his job, but without another person touching you, you don’t hop like cano did.
At the same time. don’t put yourself in a position where you are off balance with a glove near you.
Oh Robinson. That was dumb.
Ï€
sunuva.
lucky
After a long week of work and other discouraging news, my timing tonight was excellent. Home in time for the 9th. Infield single, broken-bat bloop, bomb. And my thoughts about the A’s winning records with the ex-Cubs starting the games get banished for now.
To the 13th in Anaheim. At the rate this is going, there might be time for Street to pitch in tonight’s game.
Angels have nothing in the bullpen. Their last pitcher has already gone two, and they have no off days coming up.
And they lost Aybar to a groin strain.
Brought in Santiago, their current 4th/5th starter. Looks like they’ll need to bring up someone from the minors when his turn comes up.
To the 16th. Nobody’s really threatening. There’s just empty bullpens and a groin strain.
TWHS
They’ll get relief help shortly.
Christ, what a joke.
And the slegs win.
Drat. Well, they never lose either.
not likely
(not likely to lose again that is)
Jose Canseco tries to make amends with his 1989 A’s teammates. Eck and Stewart seem to lead the forgive and accept faction. LaRussa and McGwire maybe not so much. Jose says he regrets writing the book out of spite for his late career blackballing by MLB. Good interview.
Brandon McCarthy looks sharp in Yankee home pinstripes. Pitching well into the 6th.
