Green vs. orange here too.
Gentry, Callaspo, Cespedes, Donaldson, Freiman, Moss, Punto, Vogt, Milone vs. LHP Andrew Heaney.
Already down 1-0 on a Yelich triple and Callaspo error.
Go Green!

I was unaware the A’s game had started, they don’t seem to play a lot of Saturday 1:00 PM Eastern start times anymore.
(It’s Sunday)
classic.
I see Freiman has arrived in time and is fit to play, apparently.
Apparently.
Francis may have to close again today.
Why not, he’s been our best closer this year.
with plays like that, i’m shocked we’re not sending a 2b-man to the ASG.
Nice running scoop by Tomaso covering 1st
fail.
win!
succeed!
Happy Fucking Birthday, Tommy.
Tomaso flashing the leather again!
33 pitches. Um, guys you know your job
After the 14-inning game, it looks like they think their job is “get this game over fast and get on the plane to Detroit”.
What the hell is Nate doing with the bat
Thanks, and go As.
Being aaawwwweeeeessssoooommmmeeee!!!
Hitting dingers.
I think someone on the production staff for CSN has a puppet fetish.
is gerard damiano still directing?
can this guy de the designated little nicky fucking punto pitcher?
oh for fucks sake
TOOTBLA.
Do I see what you did there? Or is it a typo.
I SAID. AND I MEANT.
YSWHDT
and seeing the vid, he woulda been safe if he hadn’t stopped to lollygag halfway on his way back. he starts running, looks, goes oh i got it i’ll hang out behind this 1st baseman for a while la li la… oops gotta go! ~TAG~
What the actual fuck was that
Thanks, and go As.
Fking Pootblan
unfuckingbelievable.
Even when . does good he ends up doing bad.
thats a country song, yeah?
It is now. My old lady left me with nothing but a Punto.
way to go cowboy
Joe SMASH!
Tomaso on pace for a 96-pitch 8-inning CG.
The offense can feel free to wake up any time though.
ok tnx
always send callaspo on stanton
way to go josh
UNLEASE THE FREIMAN
You want to break lease already? We just got him.
see, now your getting it
SIX. EIGHT. NATE.
Sotr of new TALL guy!
TINY!
Thats one awkward HR tunnel.
I had to laugh.
I think it was the Starbucks that did it.
how do you know its starbucks? Vince just said “your convenient coffee establishment”
I think SuSlu mentioned them by name this morning. It would be a better story if he hit up some hole in the wall cafe and got some Cuban coffee.
mixed with meth.
Yeah, radio guys said Sbux as well.
It must have been a Frappucino (TM).
Of course. Even the small there is tall.
Big Nate! They were talking earlier on the radio about how he’s been working to keep his hands loose, that swing looked good!
good news! it was never 4-0
this is about the war with oceania huh?
less awsome
I had never seen that thing working. I never want to see it again either.
TWSS
Yup. And Yup.
well, that was a lot of solid contact
If. hurt someone could he be suspended?
Well, if he took out a couple of South Florida geezers…you wouldn’t believe how terrible the driving is down there, and when you look over to flip them off the person is always at least 80 y.o.
The weight on his shoulders now is probably going to make him hit worse.
Dont think that is possible now that his designated pitcher was taken out.
isn’t it great ot have the seats so close to the action?
Imagine if it weren’t Punto at the plate and it was someone who could actually hit.
In case MikeV missed it. If you’re sitting in the front row down the first base line and get nailed on the right side of the face you’re just an idiot; it has nothing to do with the proximity of the seats to the field.
wouldn’t you think that an ambulance would be closer? like in the ball park?
I remember an ambulance coming onto the field right away at the Coliseum for Johnny Damon — as if they had it parked out by the tunnel.
I think you need to ph for . in this situation, yeah?
You mispelled “every”.
I think you need to DFA Punto in
thisevery situation.FTFY2
Meanwhile, the Angels are playing the Bad News Bears.
as are the marlins
lets get this polanco guy out
insurance please!
shocked face
right?
Callaspo is just barely not-awful enough that it’s allowed Melvin to Bartonize Keebs, with just 6 plate appearances in the last 11 games.
and some of those have been because NL
These Frontier Ford demonstrate another reason why Billy didn’t play himself in Moneyball.
ATTN DFA:
so. cook and doolittle?
oflarhety tomorrow?
abad and cook?
O’Flaherty still has plenty of time left on his rehab stint and I think the intent is to leave him in Sac for just about the whole 30 days. If they added a pitcher in Detroit it would be one of Rodriguez, Savery or Scribbles.
dammit
at least redmond will have yellich bunt
shoulda bunted
goddamnit, Stanton is potentially up 4th, Abad gets the first batter 0-2 then throws a fastball down the middle.
Even Glen and Ray were talking about how dumb that was.
w00t! Doesn’t matter.
It was an 0-2 fastball down the middle to Yelich too. But yay.
OH FUCK. GOD DAMMIT KOTTARAS!
catch. the. fking. ball.
COOKIE!
exhale
Also coincided nicely with Doucheface blowing it in KC.
walks lefty gordon on 3 pitches 4-3 KC
never in doubt
out of NC Wilmington. Safe to root against FSU?
I doubt that FSU cares about Wilmington any more than I care about Fucla.
LOL Scioscia’s IBB backfires as Wilson walks in the tiebreaking run.
Three more outs to finish sweeping the fish guts off the floor.
oh well.
Come on cook. need outs
error? Vince made it sound like a tough chance
vince keeps talking about how great the 25 guys on the roster has been.
Does he not realize that about 30 people have played this year?
I do find myself wishing Roxy would do Ken’s innings and Vince would just stick to his usual three.
you mean, “…and Vince would quit being a broadcaster and go into accounting or start practicing law or sell insurance or any damn thing but broadcasting.”
35 people have played in the majors for the A’s this season.
Another callous slap in the face to Bob Welsh.
well, O’Flarhety and McCarthy will make 36 and 37.
Isn’t #35 #36?
yes. I counted wrong. I think #37 was #32, its free
So what happens when Reddick isnt really that hurt, and Blanks get better, and Nate hits the cover off the ball for a week or 2?
I cant imagine someone isn’t thinking about La Potencia to SS.
Trade Reddick
Could Reddick+Blanks/Nate+one of the MIs+one bullpen arm get us anything to fill a need? Could it be enough to land a Rollins if we threw in a non-Russell minor leaguer?
This is what they should do
Reddick -> KCR
KCR Prospects -> AZD
McCarthy + Ahmed -> OAK
Good thing he didn’t throw that to Stanton…
51/81
Which makes the 92-93 wins usually required to at least get a wild card spot a pretty low bar.
Nah, we’re gonna get 103 at least.
Man what a stressful sweep. I’ll take it.
Nice sweep, bitches.
(((curtain falls on a most enjoyable Act One)))
Nate sounds tired…dont know why.
Imagine being sleep-deprived and then having to deal with Fosse questions.
There must be something in the Geneva Conventions about that.
dammit!
Aren’t there rules about that. Geneva something something?
How great is that?
So, tell us what it felt like, to be in that situation where you had liberated Fallujah and ISIS had to retreat maybe sooner than they had wanted but you still were captured by Al Qaeda insurrectionary forces and subjected to torture, subjected to a sleep deprived state where maybe you had to fly across the country and make a connecting flight somewhere in, say, Darmstadt Air Base or Teheran or Phoenix and then to be able to come to that Starbucks counter and be able to swallow 11 Caramel Frappucinos, where maybe 3 would maybe on another day make you vomit, I mean to see the expression on the barista’s face and then to get the start at first base and hit that impressive, clutch home run on of all nights Thousand Year Caliphate Night at Marlins Park… and then on top of everything to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Freedom AND Starbucks Southeast Regional Customer of the Year during the time out while the injured fans were being attended to, tell us a little about what that felt like.
they just keep finding ways.
They win because Freeman shows up and hits a 3-run homer and Milone and what was available in the bullpen was good enough.
strike three on a foul bunt, ned yost?
Everyone in that organization should be fired
Grilli in for the Angels
Unlucky.
stupid unlucky
Royals are easy to root for, even when they’re not beating the Slegna.
DMGM
Who just signed Raul Ibanez.
I was sure you were joking, but nope. This a real thing that happened.
Kind of like finding out that Omar Minaya took over (at least temporarily) the Padres.
Shaking her head ruefully, the Onion’s Sports editor shuts down the main server.
Giants are imploding. 9.5 game lead gone in just three weeks.
That makes me smile. But let’s not duplicate their overconfident cockiness.
Yeah, the obvious lesson is that healthy-seeming leads can vanish in a hurry.
So that’s why I am pleased the A’s are managing to squeeze out as many wins as possible now. Shoot, it’s not as if the Detroit matchups are that great. Monday is tough, Mills on Tuesday, and Verlander might stink against everyone else this year, but let’s see if the sight of the A’s perks him up.
That’s what I was thinking with the “low bar” comment. 39-42 or even 38-43 should give the A’s a wild card, 41-40 and they’re almost certainly in. Shit happens though.
agree. the east and central are messes. they will try to out suck each other. 91 win team wins both divisions.
the mariners are essentially ied with the yankees for making the playoffs (b-Pro). the A’s and Angels are both over 90%.
still, the games have to be played. people have to not be hurt. people have to not go 2012 Post ASB reddick.
Mike trout has to no be a 15 WAR player. The back end of the Angels rotation has to not be that good. the Angels upgrade has to be worse than the A’s.
Trajan walker has to not fulfill his potential this year.
there are lots of pitfalls, there can be no granted taking, but yeah, making the play in game is reachable.
If that doesn’t spell out the worrying nature of FK nothing does.
To me a lot of the fun of the 162-game season is worrying about your team, complaining about Johnson and Francis and Barton and . and Sogard and Reddick etc. and just being an Eeyore (which I do suppress here more often than not). Other people want to wave flags all the time. Whatever makes a 6-month season fun for you, go with it.
That is bizarre to me. The fun of the 162-game season is that the A’s are balling out of control with no sign of stopping.
It must have been hard to find any “fun” in the 162-game Geren seasons then.
green season
Genre season
gre en season
neer g season
but not a fun season
Huh. The winning or losing does dictate how much attention I pay in August and especially September when I might lean more toward watching college football, but aside from that 51-30 or 30-51 doesn’t make much difference in my life.
the winning season are fun. fun to look forward, fun to calculate how many wins in the week/month/road trip are needed. who needs to do what when.
the losing seasons are fun for getting up in the morning thinking that Greg smith can beat the white sox if this happens and Kevin Kouzmanoff stays hot.
I suppose I approach it the way somebody like Korach has to. You can criticize specifics, but you can’t have a negative attitude about the team overall because nobody will want to listen to a broadcast where that comes across. As I said I can be more Eeyorish that Korach would allow himself, but anyway I have a good time every day even if the team is a putrid mess.
The older I’m getting, the less wins and losses really matter to me in terms of the affect they have on my life. Sure, I love a great win and it’s sweet if the team wins a playoff series, but I’ve seen enough playoff disappointment that it’s getting easier to toss those feelings aside and move on.
I can’t imagine the non winning seasons if you are like a Padre’s fan. One of the things I like is trying to read the tea leaves that Billy and the FO are reading. While I don’t do the stats near as well as several here, trying to see why they move someone and go after someone else is great fun. And if we have seen anything the last couple of years it is that no move is done without a reason.
And somewhat related, nothing like when I was going back trying to see the PT/OPD posts to see comments from late 2011 about how this team needed to be blown up again because clearly guys like Parker and the players we got from Washington and Boston in trades were not strong enough to get us to much more than the continued .500 record.
I mostly bail out as soon as we’re officially eliminated. I marginally do the same once we’ve clinched too (at least until the playoffs start). I just can’t watch meaningless baseball. Without a goal beyond “win this game” it holds very little enjoyment for me. Mostly because I see nothing separating one game over another at which point 162 of those is way too many, so much so that one individual game’s “specialness” gets lost.
Yeah. Those seasons were not fun at all.
I totally get this. Sports “hate” and pearl clutching is a great thing.
And it’s far more fun to bitch about Punto than it is to write comment #3,452 about how great Donaldson is (unless, of course, you’re DFA and can sneak in an “I FKing told you so”)
the goal is also to improve… so talking about whats working isn’t really that fun.
Also true.
As long as we are are worrying, while my chief worry would be a catastrophic collapse and missing the playoffs, followed by having to play in the play-in game, my most “realistic” (at present time) worry is that the A’s get matched up against either a very strong Angels squad or a very, very, very strong Mariners’ pitching staff in round 1 as opposed to getting the winner of the AL East.
Mariners might pose a problem, but not the Angels.
I worry that the IP catches up to us and we fall apart… bank wins now.
If that happens, all the banked wins in the world won’t get us anywhere in the playoffs. If we’re at risk of a pitching collapse, we need to shore up the rotation.
Worst case scenario (and hence what will probably happen): losing game 5, at home, to C.J. Wilson.
No. Worst case scenario is Verlander. And will remain so forever and ever amen.
It is known.
We’d win that shit on appeal. LAWYERED!
I would rather play the WC winner in most scenarios. I would be afraid of playing Angels in the first (or any) round, but Tor has three pitchers who have all shut down the A’s recently, so I’m not crazy about that either. Yankees with only one Tanaka game, Mariners with only one Felix game, or Orioles or Royals would be as good a playoff matchup as we could hope for, which is not to say they would win…
I want nothing to do with Iwakuma in a serries
the angels have been just as good as the A’s in june. (as have the mariners).
This is by no means over. and a 5 1/2 game lead is almost the same as a 1 1/2 game lead
Almost
Hmmm…If I didn’t know better it would almost seem like there is a saying about this. Like some sort of falling in action in the month right before July. Let me think about that for a bit..
A series sweep that could have just as easily resulted in getting swept if not for a few things going our way? Taken, no questions asked.
the blue jays series was that way too.
jeebus, its 2 hours since the start.
Yankees/red sox just finished the 5th
So I was out camping, lost my data signal at a 5-5 tie yesterday, get back to two wins, an Angels loss, two more Giants losses to finish blowing their huge lead (for now…) And looks like yesterday’s game would have been pretty awful to watch. Very nice.
I mentioned on Twitter, but the Giants have lost 6 of 7 along with 4 straight, and I think we all know the only game they won over the past week.
I have many giants fan friends. they are good fans, they are good friends.
I am not a giants hater.
I guarantee you, by the time the A’s play at warrantless wiretap park, at las 2/3s of the enoranged throng will think the Giants are in first place and or won the world series in 2013
Definitely read that as “engorged thong.”
not unintentional
I’m surprised there are as many Giants fans panicking as there are. After all, this is an even-numbered year, ergo they will win the World Series, and their current position in the standing is irrelevant. .
I would love for them to make the WS, as long as we do too.
I’d hate for them to ever make the playoffs again. I despise them with every fiber of my being.
Correct.
and 15 out of 19
that is just terrible. Like 2003 tigers terrible.
giant have sole possession of first by a thousandth of a percentage point.
when you’re splitting hairs with stats, is that razrmetrics?
If you do it with an Amici’s pizza is it RazrandMrTmetrics?
Only if you’re also xbhaskarx’s cousin.
oi.
jj is last in fWAR (pitchers) on the team.
he has 4 wins.
half the NL rules scedule is done. just 2 in sf and 3 in atlanta left (i think).
I cannot wait. I am having withdrawls after a week of one catcher lineups.
The hardest-hit ball by . all season
EMTs must get police training in florida… ’cause that medic copped a feel!
He’s just making sure the bewbs are OK.
[Athletics GM Billy Beane] offered [Luhnow] Anderson for two of Deshields, Peacock, Stassi.
Thanks, and go As.
Kazmir and Doolittle should make it too.
Thanks, and go As.
Farrell has to pick Doolittle if he wants to win. Kazmir deserves to be there, but I bet he gets caught in a numbers squeeze.
He’s way up there in all the traditional stats though.
Thanks, and go As.
Not the most important one: East Coastness.
what does Farrell care.
zing!
This whole recognition thing makes me uneasy.
For real.
Thanks, and go As.
So now I imagine there will soon be “you should try coaching” suggestions.
I would imagine an OF with a career .728 OPS in the minors, well…
Thanks, and go As.
