A’s try to win the series today before heading off to Anaheim for another 3 game set. They’ve decided to make it a challenge for themselves with this lineup:
Jaso, Punto, Donaldson, Moss, Cespedes, Vogt, Norris, Callaspo, Blanks, Kazmir
vs
Markakis, Machado, Jones, Cruz, Davis, Hardy, Pearce, Schoop. Hundley, Jimenez
My mind is boggling on that line up. Apparently both Crisp, Lowrie, and Gentry are hurt or dead?
It’s the worst of the season both offensively and defensively.
When the worst lineup of the season still wins 11-1, you know you’ve got a pretty durn good team.
i’m holding my breath until we get a lineup composed entirely of 2bmen and catchers.
Ray is really psyched, though.
glad espn day is over so he can get the hell out of my radio.
he is on my network!
well hey, if he starts talking randomly about some helicopter that he’s ribbing VC about, at least they’ll have the ability to show you what the fuck he’s talking about.
Do we hope for 27 strike outs with this defense?
Now watch Kaz pitch a perfect game with zero Ks.
Nope. This is going to be LONG game. Please don’t let the ball touch the bat again.
Our defensive alignment is … interesting.
Jimenez pitching around .
to set up the Donaldson DP. Of course.
Let’s GO OAKland!
I’m still really annoyed about the slegnA game last night. I can’t believe how badly Ventura managed that game.
how do you let a lefty starter give up a grand slam to trout?
I am generally opposed to capital punishment, but then I see Punto batting second.
Don’t hate the player, hate the game?
I used to believe in a loving god, but then I see senseless crimes like Punto sliding into first base.
how about capitol punishment? (send him to sacto.)
Damn, I thought Vogt got all of that one.
I like that graphic overlay.
is it new? this is my first tv game
I haven’t seen it before.
Fairly. They’ve only used it once before iirc.
Smattering of A’s fans
came down from philly, no doubt
With that Cruz play, two things strike me funny. It was a pitch, so with the batter out of the box and the ball across the plate, it would have been strike three and before Cruz could score. And the batter could have easily swung and hit Norris to get the interference call.
And apparently those both struck Glen & Ray and Norris.
Was it actually a pitch? I don’t know what the rules are surrounding what is a pitch and what isn’t.
It was. He didn’t lift his back foot off the rubber before throwing it.
I am listening to this game from the beach in Half Moon Bay, where surprisingly 95.7 comes in strong and clear.
Are your pants half way down your ass or is just one cheek showing?
I am watching on a 65″ suburban TV
How does the driver see out the back of that?!
oh, not a suburban, a canyonero
#dfawallspace
Please don’t hit into a double play.
that works
wow blanks looks like a large fellow
He’s smaller than you think.
Angel taketh and the Angel giveth?
Off the top of the wall.
double
It looked like Jaso was heading for third.
Only after they called HR, I think.
It looked like he was already heading there as he called it. Either it’s probably the right call.
Not a home run.
who builds a baseball outfield wall with a little step like that and thinks it’s a good idea? WHO?
All ball parks need to set up cameras specifically for that AND ensure there’s nothing that make it unclear if it’s over or not.
I can’t even tell if there is a gap (like in Oakland) or if it’s just a step at that point.
There a gap, but there’s a pipe/pole along the top of the wall just on/behind the padding.
I believe Reddick or someone else hit that pole once.
Jaso just did. It’s the top of the wall. You may be thinking of that game in KC pre-review where they inexplicably have a pole like that about 6 inches or so behind the wall.
I think Reddick hit it on the final out of the game late in 2012. Feel like it was a patented Piederman catch and then he was down on the field for like 5 minutes after.
what is a hr there?
. is good for something
BoMel is still a lineup savant.
Yeah, I’m OK with it.
You’re cute Ray. They were not pitching around Punto to set up a double play with Donaldson and the bases loaded.
could have been worse.
Woot! Ok no doubts there.
They can review it if they’d like. Just for awesomeness.
boom.
MOSSOME!!!
or MOSSLAM!!!
mossume
Remover of doubts.
I’ll take it!
More like U-BAD-o Jimenez, amirite?
U Mad o?
As for that replay, it all depends on what part of the wall that “back” wall is just behind the padded “front” wall. Jaso’s ball did not hit the “front” part of it at all – you don’t see any sort of indentation in the padding on impact, which tells me it hit behind it. So, it comes down to whatever the ground rule is for that spot.
Given the call on the field, it sounds like it just has to clear that “front” part to be a home run.
At least Moss made it a moot point.
That pole is part of the wall. The padding wraps around on it, so it should be treated as part of the top of the wall.
yeah, I don’t get that
huh? what pole?
Bad angle. The wall’s padding is held up by a fence structure that has a horizontal pole across the top with the top of the pad wrapped/strapped around the top of it.
Ahhh.
A better view:
And a clear view of that pole.
to me, that ball had to hit the pipe. That seems like a hme run to me
I guess it depends on whether that part is considered in play or not, because it’s definitely behind the padded part.
Definitely hit there, but that pipe is part of the wall.
if it hits the narrow top of the green fence in oakland at such an angle that it bounces out, isn’t that a HR?
Has to clear the fence in the Coliseum.
i didn’t know that.
You mean the pipes that look like they’re for draining runoff? Those would have to be behind the wall in the first place.
No, not those. The one along the top of the wall itself.
Gotcha.
FWIW:
Yup. And it never got back there unfortunately.
Knowing that, there’s no way it did, right.
No, there is some kind of metal pipe or railing running along the top of (and slightly behind?) the front wall.
If you imagine the padded wall as the meshing of a typical metal fence, the pole is the top railing to help keep it upright and in proper form. It’s an intrical part of the fence itself
It makes sense that it’s structural, but I don’t see why the padding couldn’t extend another inch or two higher.
Oh absolutely. Replay is proving that overall design of MLB walls is poor.
That would make too much sense.
What is so mystifying to me is that there are means to conceal a pipe inside of a wall!
Seeing as it’s pretty much the most exciting thing that could happen in a game for a casual fan, there should be absolutely zero ambiguity as to whether it’s ‘in’ or ‘out’.
I’m also a believer of tennis style ‘line cameras’, c’mon MLB.
Now pitching for the O’s:
Wow!
That was a hell of a thing.
Boo that one, O’s fans.
That was smooth JD.
it was
Siddown, bitch
Sientate Machito.
Fortunately, they called back Jaso’s rally-killing home run so we could continue scoring.
On a serious note, that call probably gave the A’s another rule, since JD’s grounder to third could’ve been a DP.
Now this is how I like my late Sun morning breakfast. Thank you FKers for being up early and takung care of things,
What he said.
Kazmir is back to throwing 93-94 his last few starts so it’s great to see.
Getting tossed early in Cleveland was just what he needed.
Maybe we will get to throw JJ again today.
I’d rather see Francis.
Lighten up, Francis.
/Obligatory
FWIW, I’m very sure that ball hit that fan’s hands, and not the “controversial” back wall.
#facepalmatglenandray
yeah, they keep saying that.
I’m lovin’ New Guy, good job FO.
IT’S IN THE HOLE
HEY KARA! I AM THE CONTESTANT TODAY!
oh my god, a better play would have gotten callaspo
Whatever that was in the bullpen area, that Moss grand slam was a hole in one.
3-1 pitch. fuck
JD is in one of those funks where he’s trying to kill the ball every time.
I think so, really trying to show up mas macho Machado. Let it be, baby.
scoreboard
Yup. Someone needs to talk to him and calm him the fuck down.
if you are going to do that, intentionally walk him
i like the taking by cespedes, but he sould know that the pitcher wasn’t wild with moss
glen, it was no surprise that jones won a gold glove, the thing is he was terrible
Apparently, Mike Bordick does color for Baltimore. I didn’t know that.
he was terrible friday
Man, those were some long-ass Vince innings. But worth it.
didn’t hear a word.
But ray…
They’re wearing a patch all year for Tom Clancy?
Wikipedia says that he was a part owner of the Orioles.
He was also a Baltimore man to the core.
He was also a shitty writer to the core.
Lawyerballin’!
I think we have finally earned some respect around the league, I’ve been listening to the opposing broadcasts all year.
Some have been a bit confounded, but there is no longer any question if it’s a fluke.
Both national broadcasts this week called the A’s the best team in baseball in a matter of fact way.
Nice!
do the A’s have 3 hits?
6
7
10 WALKS?
This Orioles catcher is really bad at framing pitches. There was an at bat by Blanks before the Jaso 2B and Moss GS where he should’ve been struck out looking.
who the fuck is that guy? Jaso? he looks like rando investment banker
Does melvin ever sit?
I’ve only seen it once or twice, in the last couple of years.
wait, its the 5th? the top? not an official game?
I had that same feeling in the 4th, heh.
100% chance of more . in the 2 spot after this.
Nicky!?
run differential…rising
Must… pile on…
Wow, twice in a row JD?
A’s have scored 6, 9, and 10 and counting in my game theads this year. Also hit two grand slams. I should start more game threads.
clearly
Why do you think game threads have taken so long to be posted? We’ve been waiting for you to do it.
no ray, that wasn’t a good jump. that was a terrible jump. its an out with cespedes
Yeah, looked like he broke in a bit at first.
(Cespedes will also do that sometimes, but he would have made up for it with his speed on that one.)
Please please please do not use Otero in this game.
francis and johnson.
Please please please let them pitch who I want.
way to spit seeds after you catch the ball stephan
The Rangers are so desperate for a first baseman that they’re considering calling up a guy from A ball? WTF?
They’re in a fierce intrastate battle for fourth place.
BARTRON FOR HOLLAND! I DON”T CARE IF HE’S BROKEN!
fucking machado
Ugh
Shiiiiit
That seemed like a bit of a glancing blow that just knocked the mask down but why risk it?
I don’t like that shitfaced grin on Machado’s face. I think we should wipe that shit off his face.
Did Machado do anything wrong there, or is Vince just trying to stir shit up?
not really. he has a long back swing, norris was a touch too close
He made no move to apologize to Norris or even check he’s ok. Then the camera cut to him grinning like an idiot while talking to someone.
I don’t know if it’s anything worth stirring shit up over but it certainly doesn’t make me like him.
I’m starting to think he might actually just be an idiot.
this is all true. but the swing wasn’t wrong
Right I don’t blame him on the backswing but nearly all major leaguers would at least check with the catcher after hitting them like that.
When you hit someone with a backswing, usually you at least turn and say “My bad.” Not Machado.
Or “You okay?”
maybe he thought it was donaldson
I don’t agree with the way he swung the bat
its 10-0 in the 6th, buck, you just knocked out or catcher, let go of the high strike argument, Kay?
son of a motherfuck. i put on my red jersey for a 0–0 tie that didn’t stave off the 3rd place tie-breaker??
independiente has one last chance to go up to first division on its own merits. see you next week at a neutral venue for an all out battle against huracán. otherwise they stay down until the AFA changes the official rules in 2016 and expands first division from 20 teams to 30.
question? when can you eat during a futbol game?
well, it’s a more continuous game than baseball… so it’s ok to eat at any time you don’t feel like puking.
Hardy has the Yips.
great. VC finally gets a chance to wow me by talking about hairspray… and mentions the new one.
Never take advice from bald men about hairspray.
He is my new go to guy for info about gout, however.
Dad? what the fuck? french open? now I have to watch on a tablet?
this is bullshit
If he’s driving, he should really keep his eyes on the road.
and he pauses it and leaves the room!
gods damn foreigners
And Abad sends Machado a little message. Then Machado flung his bat on a swing at Donaldson. WTF.
and he isn’t even in the game!
Yeah, I missed the defensive switch.
so what is this machado person’s problem in life?
He needs a suspension after that…
What a bucket of shit.
Or maybe Machado meant to fling his bat at Abad. Either way, that’s BS.
How did Buck not get Machado out of this game before this at bat?
Someone on the Orioles needs to sit Machado down and explain a few things to him.
Vogt missed a chance to take a good swing at him.
Probably just as well.
I’m glad he didn’t. He had no reason to lower himself to that guy’s level, plus a suspension would be coming as well. With Norris possibly racked up (by that prick), I don’t want to think of having only one catcher for a couple of games.
I’m not one for beanball, but FUCK that guy, July 10th.
machado about nothing…
Look, beanballs in baseball are a way of sending a message, but you do NOT intentionally fling your bat on a swing.
Isn’t that an automatic toss out? He should be suspended a few games….
Hitting someone is sending a message, but never ever a bean ball.
OK, seriously, he needs a 50 game suspension.
Yup.
Realistically, I’ll be happy if he gets 5.
i won’t be, that is more dangerous that throwing at someones head
He probably has a good defense lawyer though.
aw man, hit me where it hurts!
And then not even checking if you’re ok!
Seriously though, I’m trying to find precedents.
Richie Sexson got 6 games, reduced to 5, for throwing his helmet at the pitcher and charging the mound in 2008.
Pedro Guerrero got 4 games for throwing his bat at the pitcher in 1988.
Campaneris got 3 games in the playoffs, and 7 in the regular season the next year, for
throwing his bat at a pitcher in the 1972 playoffs.
I’d be surprised if it was more than 1 game, I expect no suspension.
Would Abad be suspended? It was obviously intentional but he didn’t actually hit the guy.
I can’t tell if Machado was intentionally trying to throw the bat at someone.
It’s certainly possible to accidentally throw the bat like that, but given the context there can’t be much doubt.
The pitch was unhittably inside. The pitch had already crossed the plate. And the “swing” looked nothing like Machado’s actual swing.
Not only did he start his swing after the ball had passed him, he clearly let’s go of the bat. No doubt he was trying to throw his bat at someone, probably Abad.
not even. donaldson.
Then his aim is REALLY bad, with Donaldson being in the dugout by then.
(I know, I missed that too.)
i seem to’ve given my eyes (and machado) too much credit.
Who’s to say that Machado didn’t miss it too? He may have thought Donaldson was still at 3rd.
Best part is Alberto Callaspo being UTTERLY mystified by why he just got a bat chucked at him. “I’m just a lovable bumbling utility infielder who likes to put my penis in hot dog buns, why’s he mad at me?”
Not enough free kraut on that dog.
Maybe he was throwing the bat at Angel?
Oops, Callaspo was at 3B on that play, not Donaldson.
I’m very impressed with Camden Chat: the posts are almost unanimously negative towards their own guy.
Classy.
The O’s announcers were too.
Lost in the mix were multiple errors committed by Angel Hernandez trying to pick up the bat.
There is zero question Machado meant to throw his bat at Abad. He swung after the ball was in Vogt’s mitt. Not cool.
Cookie looks very sunburned, i think he’s done for the day.
And there’s Otero. Thanks Cook.
Cook’s all over the place, Bob?
throw fucking strikes
Balfour just crapped the bed again, poor Rays, a shutout till the ninth…
So glad we don’t have to deal with this anymore.
wait a minute. what do you call working with one fewer spots in the active roster and a guy you can only trust with the ball one out of 4 mound appearances (as long as it’s on the road) if not “dealing with this”??
I meant putting up with Balfour’s nonsense.
I’m hoping the other issue is resolved soon.
i’m saying this is a direct result and, thus, are still putting up with B4’s nonsense.
Very true.
Lately, though, when Doolittle comes into the game, I feel a sense of calm that he’s going to throw strikes, do it quickly, and get the game over with. I stopped having that feeling with B4 by the AS break last season.
the doo dood doo’d it done.
and with little to no doo-doo!
doot do doo doo doot doo
Dobbie dobbie Doooooo
Gio Gonzalez is my favorite player from Hialeah, FL. Manny Machado is my least favorite player from Hialeah, FL.
Goddamnit BoMel.
This would’ve been an excellent opportunity to use Johnson to close out a game.
he was out. challenge!!!
ok, idea… since you can’t actually “charge” in baseball anyway (other than illegally, the mound), can we adjust this song to help the fans advocate during video review situations?
CHALLENGE!!
Should be an out. But if Melvin doesn’t want Otero throwing extra pitches, use Johnson.
Woot. We win.
wes. wes we wid!
Fosse doesn’t understand how much space there is between the fence and the back wall where Jaso’s ball hit.
There’s a lot that Fosse doesn’t understand.
Most things, Fosse doesn’t understand.
Things Fosse dosn’t understand? Most.
How minimal is Fosse’s understanding of things?
How great would it be to know that?
I mean you talk about understanding things and having a grasp of situations and events and you go back to Spring Training where you had some difficulty with comprehension of things, you talk about getting in the kind of mindset of being able to understand most things, and what kind of situation are you expecting there, and then you get that good fastball, and tell us about that.
needs more “which” used as run-on glue between every clause with no consideration to what the subject or verb of the sentence is, which he does.
Does he do that? I’ve always said it’s nigh-impossible to really do a good Fosse question if you are not actually Ray Fosse, but I work to better my efforts. I guess he must say “which” so often that it just becomes a comma in my head.
Yo, Fosse is the same no matter time nor place. Hes always gonna start a interview with a form of “how great”.
So to you other catchers all across the land; there’s no need to argue, Fosse just dont understand.
:)
BwaHaHa!!
I’m thinking I may have to work out a full FILK here.
And at the food stand he did the ultimate..I asked him for a sno cone and he bought me Dibs!
Do it!
Had a feeling.
Russell rehabbing at Stockton right now. 1-1 already.
rehabbing? in stockton? why not just play?
I don’t know what Vogt said to Machado, but Machado’s response seemed to be “Yeah, motherFKer. Yeah.”
From SuSlu:
What a terrible liar he is.
More:
The “it slipped” defense would be more plausible if it weren’t for the fact that the only reason to swing at a pitch like that it to have a pretext for throwing the bat.
So Machado is a giant effing douche nozzle.
agreed.
He should have nipped it in the bud on Friday. He’s just as responsible for that mess as Machado.
Yep. He did not handle it well then.
About 10 years ago Showalter and Ozzie Guillen got into some sort of argument culminating in an Ozzie rant where he referred to Showalter as “the guy that invented baseball.” (Apparently that might have been a reference to even earlier incidents when Showalter was at Arizona.)
So when the A’s played Texas a week or so later, Bill King kept referring to Showalter as “Abner.”
Jesus, Ozzie Guillen can rip a guy.
Nice.
When the O’s come in July, bring baby rattles.
yup
this one is pretty awesome.
Joey Bowie did it, from the Townsend page on FB. I love the literacy of A’s fans.
do i sound like the machado venice asking for my pound of recognition?
If you prick us, do we not meme?
ASVD
New theory: Machado has been trying all series long to draw a suspension for Monday’s series vs Red Sox. Perhaps because he has show tickets, or a hot date.
What the Buck?
“I thought Manny handled it better than someone with some experience [would],†he said. “It was also a good experience for him to have. He cares. It’s a learning experience for all of us.â€
so committing what can be rightfully charged as a strike offense rusulting in Mchado doing 85% of 5 years in prison is handling it better than who? Josh Lueke?
Juan Marichal
Bert Campaneris
Jason Kendall
Well yeah. Lueke would have raped Abad for throwing at him. So in that sense, Machado handled it much better.
Easy, killer.
plz.
In fairness to BFN, it wasn’t a joke about rape. Far from it. :(
thanks. and still.
Definitely. There’s a very clear line that’s a rather delicate one.
Yeah, there’s a movement to have people frequently mention that Lueke basically got away with rape, making it impossible for baseball media people to treat him like any other ballplayer. Some things are not OK to just be left in the past, goes this thinking.
appreciate you both.
I am a member of that movement.
Right.
No, I mean Josh Lueke is a rapist. And we should never, ever, ever stop pointing that out.
Except I care nothing at all about him.
Thanks, and go As.
He is a rapist who got away with rape and is allowed to be in the public eye as if he did not rape anyone. If you don’t care about that, I have to wonder what rises to the level of being worth caring about.
For me: Having consensual sex with a beautiful woman, making lots of money, and love.
I don’t know who he is or what he did. I had to Google him, which brought up his Wikipedia page that can be edited by anybody. He very well may be a complete POS but I wouldn’t know him if I stood next to him in line at Taco Bell, so I really couldn’t care less about him.
Google tells me he was DFA’d on June 7 by Tampa, though.
Thanks, and go As.
That really makes the point Ed and Ben are trying to make, though. The name Josh Lueke should not heard as just another ballplayer; it should carry the stigma of rapist with it. There are hundreds of major/minor league names one hears without thinking much about. His name should make you think.
Ok I get that, but I also had no idea who the hell he was. I didn’t even know he was a ballplayer. He’s nothing to me, so bringing it up really doesn’t do much.
Thanks, and go As.
Also
Conveniently leaving out a lot in the middle. Like the part where he had his pitcher throw at Donaldson. And the part where the A’s still didn’t retaliate. And then today’s BS with the backswing.
If he had half a brain and was watching the game, he would have pinch hit for Machado in a 10-run game after the backswing incident.
All the writers I’ve seen have basically called Machado out on it. And the only thing they thought questionable was Abad throwing at him (but with the caveat that it’s basically part of the game and not necessarily out of line per se).
First and foremost, Buck Showalter is a tool. If he were a government official he’d be Robert Bork. Or the old Italian man in Catch-22 who thrives by endorsing whichever occupying force controls his nation at any given moment.
That said, I’d guess that at least a plurality of big league managers would come down about where Buck did. At least publicly, my player right or wrong is definitely the most common take. Showalter is such a self-important dickhead he prattles on about it, though.
It’s better to live on your feet than to die on your knees.
I’ll take Showalter over the way a guy like Bud Black handles it, which is to be basically be a smug prick about it and be all, “Yeah, so what, one of my players busted a guy’s collarbone. Who cares. Guess he shouldn’ta started no shit.”
Ed, I was briefly in your neighborhood today. I did not realize how overrun with hipsters it has become. I was there to stop at Humphrey Slocombe on the way home from the beach, so arguably I am part of the problem.
not the problem. the problem is the people who stay
why is staying a problem but traveling there is not?
I don’t think he likes his neighbors.
people who come to visit are not driving the ellis act bullshit, people that stay are.
note, I am not against development, I am not against jobs, I am not against quasi public transportaion.
I am against the ellis act
There is a ton of ellis act bullshit, but the real driver of that is that people want to live in SF and people refuse to let folks build new homes. 58,000 people moved here in the last 4 years and in the last 3 we only built 4k housing units. My problem is the same folks who are up in arms about the ellis act are almost never advocating for building 50,000 more housing units in the city. There isn’t unoccupied housing you can buy and just decide to live in in this city without displacing tenants.
that is some bullshit.
to be clear. i agree with you. we need much more density.
It’s been too long since I’ve had a scoop of their Black Walnut.
Can we talk about Donaldson’s sideburns thing, or is it too soon?
Is it a sideburn thing, or a “I have a very patchy and light beard” thing?
If you have to ask, it’s not a good look.
I cant argue with that. But as someone who had a patchy beard for some time, I recognize that it can also be a process. Also it could be cool new Richie Allen porkchops and a lack of shaving because of day games.
See, if we didnt have to talk about Machado and booing JJ Jane Lee could find this shit out.
I was thinking the same thing. After the Yankee series…in SEPTEMBER OF 2012.
Honestly, keep thinking it dude. We are just lucky. Hell, dont even try out there, we obviously cant beat you guys, look at our payroll!
Um… he’s right about us having had a little extra luck. He’s wrong about the implied notion that that luck was good.
hope the a’s have a big bulletin board.
Luck would be the Frieri having a lead to protect in this series.
Why do guys still say shit like this? When has it ever turned out well?
Yeah it’s like he WANTS to be lit up by the Best Team In Baseball (Patent Pending).
Watch us be the first team in sports history to NOT win the game immediately following an opponent’s shit-talk.
Well, I did say “Patent Pending”
We can’t afford the pushpins for the bulletin board.
Welcome to Oakland.
Tagline? It is short and pithy.
oh don’t be shy, go ahead and take a good look at it papi.
Outfielder should moonwalk and crab walk to cans of corn. Perhaps add a yawn in there.
Man, Uehara had just about the worst 1-2-3 inning you can have. Three absolute rockets off the bats of the Tigers, all three outs.
Can somebody explain to me why NBA players are wearing ridiculous glasses? I mean jeezaloo LeBron.
Jean Quan: Better Mayor than I expected she’d be. Worse driver.
Who among us is not trying to suppress a racist/sexist/ageist joke?
I wasn’t before. But I am now. Asshole.
It’s the most softly tossed softball that ever softballed.
I honestly didn’t think of it either, but it really is the trifecta of bad driver stereotypes.
You can also add mayor jokes too.
Vote Quanby!
Sheesh, whatta buncha choirboys we got here.
not really. missed the two proven ones. drunks and …
Even worse driver, since it looks like she’s a repeat offender.
How hard is it to get a hands free device? Mine is blutoothed in to my car stereo so that I don’t even have to think about it and can leave my damn cell phone in my pocket. Given her job and how much money she likely has, I’m sure she could easily afford something similar.
If she was still driving the Lexus, it’s a pretty safe bet that it’s already got bluetooth built in and if she’s using an iProduct, it should have been pretty FKing easy to sync.
But, ALLEGEDLY they are pulling her phone records so they can show that she wasn’t using the phone at the time — but that just means she literally wasn’t in the middle of a phone call, so she could have been texting/GPSing/Twittering/Facebooking/whatever
Thanks, and go As.
Yup.
The whole bit with the phone records is pointless anyway. It doesn’t diminish the fact she’s driven carelessly multiple times while paying more attention to her phone, and has not changed since getting caught before.
She doesn’t even know if she ran the red light. You have to really not be paying attention for that to happen.
The last time a foul ball in a Marlins-Cubs game got this coverage, the outcome was not as sweet.
Jesus christ, what a mess.
TWSS
“Jesus christ” the interjection? Or the dude? Because it changes things a bit.
Works on so many levels.
If you’ll allow me a little bit of
humblebrag:Some work we did on ultrathin plastics. The whiffle ball is being supported by a piece of plastic 30 nanometers thick (1000x thinner than human hair) that is stretched like a drumhead across almost 3 inches. The ball is 30,000 times the weight of the plastic.
If the plastic were as thick as a piece of paper, it would be 750 feet across.
Geeeez. I’m not all that familiar with polymers, but is that some weird poly methyl pyrrolidine you’ve got there? What gives it such a large structural integrity?
The chemical structure is misleading, that’s not what the plastic sheet is made of. The structure is PDAC, which is used to remove the plastic sheet from the silicon disc we fabricate it on. The actual plastic sheet is something called Formvar, which is really strong because it has strong self-interactions. I don’t think anybody has been able to make sheets this thin and this large, which is what we reported in the paper. The PDAC was the secret sauce.
Aha, I see. Sweet!
speaking of secret sauce, can you tell us some of the more practical uses for your development? (and have you trademarked the name polyamorous yet?)
MANNY
(with apologies to Barry Manilow)
I remember both those games
the way you acted was a shame
can’t avoid the tag, the spike of the helmet
Cryin’ like a child, then that leads into
Sunday out at Camden Yards
Backswing went a bit too far
then you threw the bat, a dangerous action
Claimed it was lie and you lost your traction
Oh Manny
Well you play like a diva on crack rocks
will you just go away?
Oh Manny
Your hard head is in need of some base knocks
Best not mess with the A’s
Oh Manny
Standing stupid at home plate
ejection came three games too late
Caught up in a world
of mindless ego
it’s really no surprise
A-Rod’s your hero
Oh Manny
well you lack all respect as a sportsman
your excuses are lies
Oh Manny
wait and see when you make it to Oakland
the third week of July
Oh Manny
Yesterday you fought
a baby’s battles
next time we see you
we’ll shake our rattles
At Manny
he’s an athlete who thinks he’s a Greek god
and he’s making a bid
Oh Manny
can you show me a picture ID card?
show you’re not just a kid?
Oh Manny
Bet you think you are slick with that smack talk
but you’re just 21
Oh Manny
yes The Elephant’s memory’s a long one
and we’ll beat youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
We need this recorded and we need it sent to the O.co within the next month. How does that happen?
Manny are called, few are chosen. Nice work.
Good.
The problem is that the only thing they probably talked to him about was throwing the bat. Not exaggeratedly overswinging at pitches far outside his usual swing zone so he could ring Norris’ bell twice. Not giggling (with Adam Jones, no less) in the on-deck circle instead of even bothering to ask if Norris was okay. Not flipping shit over Donaldson tagging him.
In short, they’re not actually addressing the problematic elements of who Manny Machado apparently IS.
More from the same person:
Buck “What is it I’ve found the enemy in the mirror & I know what it is, it’s me? Sometimes we got to think about that too. I know I try to”
Buck also mentioned how short of a fall it can be when top young players mess up. Machado is still 21 years old.
Machado said on MASN he overreacted and apologized. Said it was a frustrating weekend. Print media did not get access to Machado.
Machado goes on team network to make his apologies. I guess a way to ease him in and not address reporters directly?
Jesus, Buck mangled that on like a George W. Bush level.
I’m not buying his faux contrition one little bit. He’s sorry because he’s in trouble. He wasn’t sorry after he started shit on Friday. He wasn’t sorry for hitting Norris twice. He wasn’t sorry when Vogt confronted him after the thrown bat. He wasn’t sorry when reporters talked to him after the game.
I don’t see an apology to me in there. Nor an apology to the grammar police by Encina.
As a Detective Sergeant with the grammar police, I can confirm that a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
I would suspend him simply for substituting numbers for words.
That’s the reporter trying to fit it all in one tweet.
Someone should tell the reporter that there’s a new social media platform out that has unlimited characters. They call it “writing an article.”
And myself for not seeing this was from a “writer” instead of directly from the horse’s ass.
Manny, you remind me of a real short story. One hit wonder and you start to bore me.
Machado’s apology is well and good, but not facing reporters is a little weak. Should still be suspended a few games.
Red Sox radio is crapping all over Machado. “He’s mentored in Miami by Alex Rodriguez…..Draw your own conclusion.”
They should worry instead about how bad their own team is this season, and how they’re getting shut out on 2 hits through 7 innings tonight.
Cleveland has dropped a snowman on the Rangers so far tonight. Texas is closer to the Astros than the A’s in the standings.
AND on the globe!
Not if you go the OTHER way!
Huh:
he hasn’t set the world on fire this year.
